I was disappointed with the service I didn't receive for my vehicle. I asked for new wipers which wasn't done. Also, they told me that the service overdue indicator would reset but didn't. Two minor issues, yes, but I have had been in the hospital, was still recovering, so it was a lot for me. When I called to make the appointment for service, I advised the service department that I had a warranty covering the two damaged tires. It wasn't noted, unbeknownst to me, so when they were updating me on the length of time before completion, and cost, I realized they were charging me for the tires. I told them about the warranty and was told I should have said something about when I dropped it off. They put the blame on me, which I will take part of it, but they should be talking to service for not making note of it. I just won't be back for service. read more

I charged up my Ioniq5 here around 9:30 AM during a road trip. Three miles down the road my car was rattling like a steel drum so I called and asked if they could fit me in. They were great on the phone and during check in at about 10:30 AM. They told me it might be an afternoon of waiting. They squeezed me in, they were kind to my dogs and fixed the loose screws in the car underside that another Hyundai service center had left loose. I would give them 10 stars if I could. After figuring out what car I wanted to purchase, a Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue, I contacted several dealerships to see what deals they could offer, the pricing was at list or a bit higher and the trade in were all about the same. I was out in Hudson so I figured I would check out Great Lakes Hyundai in Streetsboro and I was impressed. First they actually seemed to want my buisness, I was actually greeted when I came into the dealership. Second Justin did a nice job as the salesperson finding the vehicle I wanted and keeping me informed. Third Great Lakes was willing to knock $1000 off the price to get me to commit to the purchase. Fourth they ageed to the minor conditions I requested; not putting on the protection plan and no dealership decals on the car. Overall a very good experience. Delivery took a while, but that is typical these days. Justin kept me informed without being overbearing and he followed up after the delivery. If you are looking for a Hyundai I would give Great Lakes an opportunity; they are a bit low key, but they are willing to make deals. Because of the location I will probably have the service done at a dealership closer to me, but if I was purchasing another car I would definitely give Great Lakes a try. read more

Once they run my credit and put hard inquiries on it, they then tell me they don't do business with Westlake. Waste of time, do not recommend. I would not recommend this dealership. First they refused to sell a truck if the insurance card didn't have the financing individuals name on the insurance card. Even though our insurance already had it set to insure and was willing to speak to the dealership. We then had to redo the transaction with my husband paying for the truck in full. This truck was for my son but Griffin the salesman spent the majority of the time speaking to my ex and his step son even after their portion of the deal fell through. We were only brought in to the transaction to pay for the truck. Less than 24 hours later once the need for air conditioning to be used came up, the AC doesn't work. They refused to even acknowledge the problem and claimed we had brought a mechanic with us to look over the truck. Which in fact we did not! We didn't even get offered a test drive. Griffin tossed us the keys and told us we could look at it, but don't take it anywhere. We specifically asked if the truck had a safety inspection done and serviced such as oil change prior to finalizing the sale and were told yes. Yet the tires were extremely over inflated and the oil life indicator doesn't reflect an oil change was done. They did condescendingly offer to correct the tire pressure if we drove nearly an hour back to the dealership. Typical used car salesman and shady dealership. There were a few kinks to be worked out when I was initially trying to lease and both Justin and Bill were creative in making the lease happen. Do not buy a car here or at any hyandai they will sell you junk. (Even the new cars). When the car breaks down and you pay 2500$ to fix it and then a year later have the same exact problem. Car has an oil combustion problem that is common with hyandai apparently and their crap theta 2 engine that they keep putting in their cars knowing it's going to be junk. Even being told by other shops where I get oil changes that the engine should be recalled but it's not. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CHILDREN IN THESE CARS.You will think everything is fine going down the road then all of a sudden your car just stops accelerating and the check engine light comes on and your stuck in the road. Take my advice and look it up on Reddit and see all the people that they have screwed over and stay away from hyandai. I buy an extended warranty keep in mind I tell the salesman TJ that I drive a lot of miles so he sell me an extended warranty for a whole 48k miles sadly he never tell me this... so I'm at the dealership now and guess what I'm out of warranty because at 2 1/2 years I have over the 48k in miles! I called the dealer to make a 60000 mile service appt. on my 2013 Sonata that has not had a single issue since I owned it. Had trip planned to Kentucky, so seemed like due diligence. I left the dealership and noticed a periodic squeak on the drive home, but thought I must be imagining things. Took the car a week later on road trip and my husband diagnosed the sound immediately that hadn't existed before the "service". Then we return from the long weekend and 300 mile journey home, and the weather warmed up. Suddenly there is no air conditioning. It worked on the way to get the service, but not a week later. Called the dealer on way home to ask for them for a new appt. to review their checked systems list, marked as OK. The service person told me that I would have to pay for the visit and "things happen". End result, my husband banned me from going there and give them any more money. Went to local mom and pop shop. Said serpentine tensioners were worn (squeak sound) and the air conditioner was low. Both those were "checked" as good during my service. So the work that was actually needed was not noticed in a $500 service and I had to pay nearly the same to get repairs by someone else. Suggestion, go to Mentor Hyundai, or someone else. read more

I've bought a used car at Great Lakes Hyundai and had a lot of work done there on the van (I no longer own) and my 2006 Hyundai Sonata. I've been doing business with them since about 2008. The dealership is clean and the employees are friendly. They wash your car after servicing it. They are very fast and professional. The waiting area is comfortable and they have great coffee. They can loan you a car if it's a serious issue (e.g., there was a drivers' seat recall where they had to ship the seat to California). As people, I really like them. Everything is wonderful. What's the problem? The repairs cost an awful lot. It's frustrating to have repairs that have to be done at the dealership because you know you're going to pay. I had my car towed to them because it was not running right. I said "this is throttle position sensor problem." Their answer; "it's $99 to diagnose the problem." Of course it was a throttle position sensor (error code made that clear) and the part was $41. But the LABOR was about $250 and there was a $15 charge for "shop supplies." With tax, my bill was about $350. The national average from repairpal.com is $168-256 (the part averages $82-146). Ouch. I have nothing bad to say about Great Lakes Hyundai as people or as a business; this is just the nature of dealerships I guess. I have to vote with my feet and avoid there service department unless it's something that only the dealer can fix. read more

I purchased a used 2009 Hyundai Sonata for my 71-year-old mother from Great Lakes Hyundai. I bought it off the Internet sitting at my computer in Philadelphia--sight unseen. It was such a great deal. My mother reports that the salesmen were kind, patient, and professional. When she got home the cigarette lighter was missing, so they drove about 20 miles to her home delivery it. Wow! That's service! The car ran excellent for about two years until the transmission died. Since the Great Lakes Hyundai car purchases included a free "Warranty Forever" drive-train coverage, we tried to have the insurance company pay for the repairs. I was extremely irritated to find out the coverage was declined on a technicality: My mother was supposed to call an 800 number before each and every oil change required to maintain the coverage, but didn't. They also said the coverage on the transmission was invalidated because, on one occasion, she had forgotten to change the cabin air filter. Gee, what does that have to do with the transmission being broken? Hyundai Motor Company did pay for the parts of the repair (as a goodwill gesture) and I paid the $1200 for labor. I was pissed off. The "Warranty Forever" program is bullshit. I assure you it is impossible to collect on the warranty because nearly everyone that owns a car will miss a cabin air filter change by a couple months or an oil change by maybe 1000 miles or some other technicality. But, then a miracle happened. About 15 MONTHS after the car was repaired, I was contacted by Joey Huang, the owner of Great Lakes Hyundai. He had just learned about the failure of the warranty company to pay for the transmission repair and about my extreme displeasure with the warranty company and his dealership promoting such a lousy insurance company. He got in touch with me in Philadelphia and apologized for my parents' and troubles with the warranty and with the car. He said he would reevaluate the dealer's relationship with the warranty insurance company. He offered me $1200 out of his pocket to pay for my expenses 15 months earlier! He thoroughly convinced me that 100% customer satisfaction was his goal and he was willing to do just about anything to get it. On the phone, he was sincere, sympathetic, and determined to make things right - - with no strings attached. In my 52 years, I have never heard of a car dealership so concerned with its reputation. All my future car purchases will be with this outfit for their excellent customer service, excellent prices, and for the integrity of its owner, Joey Huang. (You'll just have to buy your drivetrain insurance coverage from someone else.) read more

Cindy's review gives me confirmation that this is not an exaggeration at all: Bought a car there two years ago and just found out they scammed me on my financing. The salesman spent over five hours refusing to give us our keys back so we could leave. He appraised the car, said we owed more than they'd give us. We said okay never mind and tried to leave. Nope. Tried to talk us into "voluntary repossession" - turning over the keys and forfeiting our loan, which would ruin our credit just shortly after our new car purchase. We were so disgusted that they'd suggest that that we tried to leave again. Nope. He suggested rolling the loan over into our new loan. Definitely didn't want to do that, but he refused to let us go. Finally after many conferences with his manager, he conceded to take the car as a $0 trade in. We agreed. He showed us the paperwork, price per month and total cost. When I balked at the total, he told me it was due to financing charges and interest. He said that we could refinance after a year and everything would get cheaper. Then, they told us we needed GAP coverage because of the kind of loan it was. According to my loan company, that's because it's so far over value that it's too risky to do without it. That's not what they told me! And those finance charges and interest? That's a part of the loan, and it means I CANT refinance because I owe infinitely more than it's worth. I'm still making the payments, but I'm going to file a BBB complaint to warn people about this scam. This dealer and everyone who works there will take advantage of you unless you are an experienced car buyer. This was my first car shopping experience, and saying I learned a lot is an understatement. The biggest lesson? Great Lakes Hyundai is out to scam on young, inexperienced car buyers, and going there was by far the biggest mistake of my life. I sincerely hope your dealership is shut down for these unethical practices, but I know it won't be because karma isn't real. How do you guys even sleep at night? Man. I've got to work two jobs to pay for your lies. I wouldn't be able to look my family in the eye knowing I make money off the backs of honest, hard-working customers....but apparently that's the motto of Great Lakes Hyundai. read more

We've purchased three cars from Great Lakes and all have ran great for a decent amount of time. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. I do have an issue with their service department. My boyfriend needed a new head light. He went to autozone to get it installed but the light still didn't work. So naturally I called the dealership since I've never had a problem with them helping us out. This time was much different. They told me the wiring was completely shot in the head light and we would have to pay a ton of money to get it fixed. They said someone "messed" with it (I had thought maybe autozone did something wrong). I was so distraught that I just left to try and figure out what to do. I called a local mechanic and took the car there. They looked at it quickly and said the fuse was out and they could replace it for $60! I couldn't believe they completely lied or didn't know what they were talking about at Great Lakes. Now I question all the work I've ever had done here. There is no way that they didn't know it was the fuse. That's pretty standard and not a big deal. I feel they just looked at it, assumed it was messed up, and slapped a huge price tag. I will not take any of our cars back here unless it's for an oil change. I will also not be purchasing a car from here again. They have lost my trust and that is very unfortunate. read more
