I cannot stay away from Great Nails & Spa! It's not a mystery why I keep returning! This is the ONLY shop in Austin that still has affordable prices and stellar service! The stellar service in question: pedicures for $35 including a full 30-40 minute leg massage! The manicure also includes a 15 minute hand and shoulder massage which is heavenly! The massage is the star and that is why I keep coming back here. Whenever I have family visiting I bring them here because of this. The atmosphere is always welcoming (seems that they have slight staff changes :)) and friendly each time I arrive, they don't pressure you into adding on additional gel x etc! This time around I got a mani $20, pedi $35 and my eyebrows $7 waxed --all for $62 which is an unbeatable price and my toes and nails came out so PRETTY! Some things to note: They are renovating the area pedicure chairs where the pedicure chairs are, so it looks different and seems to be less busy in the morning. They used to serve beverages about a year ago so I'm not sure if that's on pause due to the renovation. This is a no frills shop! What you see is what you GET! It's very basic in appearance but has consistently good service. It's located right off first street and they do have onsite parking but the lot is tiny FYI. read more

They do a great job on painting your nails BUT the MASSAGE and treatment you get it why I keep coming back! They know what they are doing! 10/10! read more

Unfriendly. Massage for a regular pedicure and manicure was long and enjoyable-- however, the actual nails, terrible. The polish is uneven in color, the shape is not good... when I asked about it they pretended they didn't understand and were not interested in making it right. Does not look professional. Lasted one day before chipping. Really, really disappointing. read more

I have been coming here for years, it's my favorite nail salon in Austin. They are consistently clean, professional and skilled. They have recently upgraded all of their massage chairs and nail stations. Unassuming from the street with a stylish interior. English is spoken for those who get nervous unable to express exactly what they want. Enough parking available. Top level service at normal level pricing. These guys really are Great. I've been dancing for two decades, proper foot care is essential. I get regular pedicures and I can't recommend these guys enough. I've not have my fingernails done so I can't't speak for that service but pedicures here for the win. You will dance out on new feet. read more

Terrible job! The nail color was not correct and uneven, they let the gel bleed around the nail beds, nicked my skin multiple times and it was not cheap!! The lady rubbed my skin raw with the exfoliant and massaged with that instead of lotion. I do not recommend this place!! read more

I've had pedicures before, but never like this. All the massaging in the warm water, the beautiful nails color choice. Everything was so excellent. She must have worked on me for an hour and did a fantastic job. I went to the 1st street salon. I don't think I've ever had a pedicure like this before. I recommend it highly. It looks a mess because I think they're in construction mode. But it's probably gonna be gorgeous when they get done, but the manicures and pedicures are still A-one. read more

I almost walked out at soon as I walked in... communication was weird and made me uncomfortable. Did not offer me anything to drink - idk if they do that here. Customer service here isn't the priority- just get people in seats. $55 for jell pedicure + tip is pretty standard I guess. The massage was TOP NOTCH. It was a little aggressive at some points but at least it was a good massage instead of the usual wimpy ones I've had other places. I'd maybe try again... but also I kinda like when I'm getting a service done for the people working there to be nice to me... My toes look like. read more

Although they do good nails, I have been going here for the past seven years. Today I walked in and I was left standing at the door while four or five of them are chitchatting between each other and no one makes a decision and it's like this all the time so I just decided to walk out and I'm gonna start doing business elsewhere. It is far too hard to communicate and they treat so many customers insignificantly and they talk in between each other and your left standing at the door for at least 5 to 10 minutes and they're all deciding on who's gonna take you as a client for that day. They never tell you how much it's gonna be they charge you whatever they wanna charge you and you don't even know what you're paying for! read more

This review is strictly for the amazing pedicure and leg massage I received from George today! The current salon I go to does an incredible job with my SNS, but the pedi's are nothing to write home about. My girlfriends raved about George so I decided to give him a try. Upon entering the salon, I got cheap, dirty vibes and I did not like that their nail polish selection was disorganized and all over the place. BUT, as long as George is working at this salon, I will keep coming back to see him. My leg massage was better than the one I receive from my regular masseuse and George is only $35! My legs have been tight lately but now they feel like jelly and I am totally relaxed. read more

Last week, Matt gave me the best pedicure I've ever had in my life!! The man is a magician. After those 90 minutes of pure kinesthetic bliss, I was able to sleep better than I had in months! His soothing energy was the icing on the cake to his flawless technique, meticulous attention to detail & perfect pressure point massage. He knew the exact experience my soul needed that day. I have mixed feelings on this nail salon. They are great for a basic manic, pedi and massage. When I first started coming here it was one of my favorite nail salons to go to. They do traditional massages that include long rubs on the calves and feet. Some massage techniques that you may not be used to are included, for example hitting the legs. This is the best part about this salon and is why I used to come here all the time. No other salon that I've been too gives massages like this. Unfortunately, there are some downsides. I had a particularly bad experience tonight. I have recently gotten into doing fancier designs on my nails. When I say fancy, I mean basic designs. I'm not talking about anything over the top but, I do like to get a little festive and seasonal around the holidays. This nail salon can't really do designs. They may have a few technicians that know how to do it, but I'm not sure who they are. Most of them don't seem to be able to and the large majority speak very little to no English, making it almost impossible to communicate properly. Tonight I brought in a really simple manicure design that I wanted. I made sure it wasn't overly complicated since I assumed it might be an issue due to the language barrier. It was just plain nails and each nail was a different color. So five different fall colors. I figured ok all they have to do is paint...it should be easy enough. I asked them when I came in if that was a feasible design and one of the guys who speaks English well said they could do it. I assumed I would be getting him for the manicure or someone who could do it properly. They also asked me to pick my colors out and didn't give me the correct basket for gel. So I spent 5 minutes picking out the colors (they also don't help you with this at all -- other salons will help you make sure you're getting the right design color and act professional). Once they realized it was gel, the guy doing my pedicure kept bothering me to re-pick the colors but, they had already put foil on my hands to remove previous polish and they kept falling off. They kept reapplying them, stopping my massage during the pedicure and then insisting I look through the basket to pick out colors! This was so frustrating and stressful! After the pedicure, they switched technicians. The guy who I ended up getting for the manicure was rude and seemed incredibly frustrated when I asked him to do the 5 different colors. Him and the guy who did my pedicure kept laughing and I could tell they were irritated with me. I insisted if it was too much work that we could do one color but, I don't think he understood me. It's honestly really hard to tell. Either way, I was really embarrassed and frustrated with the whole thing. Since I had to rush to pick out my gel colors (I was stressed the whole time and the tone of the nail tech was so, so rude), I realized that it just wasn't worth the stress of trying to communicate properly and told him to do one color. So essentially I didn't get what I wanted and it was overall a poor experience. Additionally, the manicurist didn't even bother to ask what shape I wanted the nails, which I would have appreciated him doing. It was late and I think they just wanted to go home, which I understand but, really would have appreciated better communication. It's a huge let down because I really did like this salon. I won't write it off for pedicures but, I think after this experience manicures are no longer on the table. read more

This place has gone downhill. It used to be great, but I will not be returning. Here's how my appointment this past Saturday went: -We made a reservation and they were 25 minutes late to begin our pedicure. No updates while we sat there with our feet in the water. My sister eventually received an apology, but I did not. -No water was offered. Most places at least offer you a beverage, especially if they're going to make you wait! -At no point were we asked what type of pedicure we wanted. We finished and luckily had got the standard selection, but later noticed there was also a deluxe option -The man doing my pedicure gave me the lightest/worst massage I've ever had! He also made no eye contact, looked really bored and stared off into space for the entire 20 minutes. It was completely bizarre and a bit awkward to barely be acknowledged. He absolutely did not want to be there, and it ruined my experience. read more

I typically love coming here, but the last few times haven't been great. I was cut on one occasion and I asked repeatedly to have extra short and rounded nails and they didn't follow those instructions. Their employees also look disgruntled and rarely have any interaction with you. Overall, not a super great environment. The price is decent, but I'm going to start looking for other nail places. read more

I very rarely post negative reviews unless I feel like people need to be warned...nothing great about it. I went here based on a friend's recommendation, so perhaps the other staff are better than the person I saw, but they all seemed like they were in zombie mode. The massage portions were so off-base (why are you rubbing my bones?!) and aggressive that it felt like borderline assault. The guy karate-chopped my shoulder and my neck has been screaming ever since. I won't be able to work until it heals and have to go see a chiropractor, both of which are incredibly costly. I don't understand why they use a cheese grater for your feet, especially because I don't have calloused heels, so it was just torture. He was distracted looking around the whole time and it shows. When I said anything he just kind of stared. One toe had super uneven paint and several of my fingernails chipped within an hour of leaving (all I was doing was sitting, so that's pretty crazy). I wouldn't dream of going back to get anything touched up. I'll just take the incredibly expensive lesson. read more

I have been to this nail salon a few times since it comes so highly recommended, but I'm always disappointed. This most recent gel polish was the cherry on top to indicate I won't go back. Sorry y'all, but I was not impressed by this place. I was recommended here by a couple friends so I was excited when I was able to walk in and be seen right away. That's pretty much where the positive stops. My tech didn't speak hardly any English and was not able to understand what I wanted (a new gel manicure versus just a fill), or just chose to do her own thing. She cut pretty much every single one my cuticles and seemed to be in a big rush. I posted a photo of the sloppy job done on my nails, and that's after I asked her to fix it twice! You can clearly see where my old shellac ends and the new fill starts. When I left I felt like I had just paid $21 to have my nails buffed five different ways. I will say that their pedicure chairs looked really comfy and the techs appeared to be giving good pedis. I wish I had just gotten that instead :( read more

I really hate to have to post this but I have spoken to someone else that this happened to! While I was getting my nails done there was a mouse that ran through the salon. The gentleman that was doing my nails noticed and didn't even react and kept going. The mouse jumped into the cotton balls on the cart near the pedicure station, then hopped on the chairs... then disappeared. I went to this place for years.. but never again read more

Although walk ins are welcome, I would suggest make an appointment because it is in a very busy touristy area so it's always busy. I would also suggest you to read other people's reviews, I would say they are very true and thus why I probably won't come here again because I'm very fear of getting any kinda of infection. While I was here the very first time and only got a pedicure, it was enjoyable so I gave it another try. This time I tried manicure as well and I was terrified of the condition of his tools. He kept cutting too deep of my cuticles even after I complained and the result was bleeding fingers. I picked two colors for adding a little sparkling on the tips which was $10 additional charge ( I think, not sure of the amount) and really lousy job. See pics below, that's really not worth $60 of my hard earning money. My last experience was really a 0 star experience but You need to know who to ask for the mani pedi. I hope you have better experience than mine. read more

I'm here visiting from California and I think I may just have to fly out here to get my nails done every two weeks. This place and the people who work here are amazing. Not only did they do wonders with my toes and my finger nails but they are also super nice and were great at conversation. On top of it they have a great selection of nail polish colors. But wait there's more... the hand, arm, neck and shoulder massage I got after my mani was to die for. And the long leg massage I got while in the lounger chair that lays all the way back with my pedicure almost put me to sleep. The prices can't be beat either! Five stars from me! read more

Went last weekend on a Sunday (it seems like they're the only salon open on Sundays!) and was horrified to find it insanely busy. We ended up waiting for mani/pedis for about 25min (and felt like we were in the way), but were magically able to both sit by each other (2 of us) when the small wait was over. The pedis included clay and a hot towel wrap, and the best foot massage I had ever received. We went on to get shellac manis and both me and my girlfriend loved the way it turned out. I was a little hesitant after seeing some of the photos on Yelp, but it turned out to be a great choice. $55 for a shellac mani and regular pedi, which is just around the price I would hope for. 4 stars for the tiny location that didn't allow for a lot of waiting areas and the wait (which wasn't their fault, but still goes into the rating!) read more

This salon overbooks, resulting in rushed nail techs, sloppy service, and an overall lack of concern for customer's comfort and experience. I went to Great Nails & Spa because it was recommended to me by a friend. I made an appointment In advance and waited an hour before I rescheduled for the following day. I was getting my first full set replaced, so I did not have any prior knowledge about the process. I asked several questions and explained that this would only be my second appointment with artificial nails. When I was getting the old set removed, as they were filing them down It felt uncomfortable, but I trusted that the nail tech knew what he was doing. I made my 2 week appointment with another salon so as to get another opinion. The day before my appointment 3 of my nails broke in the middle. When I went in they were unable to put anything on my nails because they had been filed down excessively thin by Great Nails & Spa. In addition, my new salon didn't take the electric file to my nails at all, they just soaked them and wiped them with a paper towel for removal, as this is much more gentle. Since I am waiting for my nails to recover, they do have any type of coverage. While I do daily tasks, they bend in half and are tender to the touch. I went in to follow up with Great Nails about my physical discomfort and pain, it took them 4 days to get me in contact with the manager only to be told that there is nothing they can do because of the length of time since my appointment. Although the certified nail techs should be more knowledgeable than the novice customer, Great Nails & Spa care more about money and customer flow than they do gentle care and customer well being. read more

The only reason I came here was bc I needed a nail shop that opened early on a Sunday. I have to say that I have never received worst service. My nail tech handled me extremely rough and rushed the whole time. He never spoke to me unless ordering me to wash my hands or tell me not to move. When he sat me in the drying station, I accidentally messed up the polish in one nail... he had the worst attitude about it. I will never come here again! read more

Want to start off by saying that it was a great pedicure massage...like one of the best I've ever had and they massaged me for a good 15 minutes. It is also packed in there which to me is always a good sign. With that being said I have some sanitizing issues with this place. They don't put the plastic things in the pedicure bowls...I saw someone get up and they did not clean the bowl afterwards. Secondly, their tools don't come come in any individual packages and I didn't see any containers of sanitizing liquid. Disappointing because I've been looking for a new salon for quite some time but not sure if I will be back strictly for the sanitation issues. read more

My nail tech was very friendly, and I had a great experience with her, but overall the worst part about all of it was how rushed she was. I had over 45 minutes until they closed for my pedicure but she acted like the building needed to be evacuated! Still, I must say that I've never gotten so many compliments on my toenails as I have this time around. I will absolutely be back!

I was sitting on a chair while for 30 minutes after the technician prep my nails- I would've left but my nails were already ruined by the drill and the tips were on. It took over 2 hours because the technician/ hostess kept leaving and coming back every 5 minutes. I was left with just the acrylic gel for over 10 minutes and it slumped over and made the nails look deformed/ oddly shaped. After one week- two of my nails broke. Please do not waste your money here.

He was a little rough to the touch as times with my pedi. The pulling and moving my feet & toes quickly and/ or forcing them down from time to time was uncomfortable. I didn't say anything but looked at him. The manicure wasn't done completely. He massaged my forearm but missed my hands. I asked if he was going to massage my hands, he looked at me and said yes, but no massage to my hand was performed. I looked around at other customers and their hands were massaged a little after their forearm. Their tech had them wash their hands afterwards. Ken had me wash my hands right after my forearm. He polished my nails and said thank you. He placed a fan in front of my hands but didn't say how long I needed to stay in front of the fan. Normally im told 2 mins etc...I touched my nails after 3 mins and turned off the fan. When I checked out I did let the lady know it wasn't a good experience for me this time. She inquired, I told her Ken didn't ask me if I wanted any water etc..as I watch other customer receive sodas & waters. The lady replied, oh really he normally does. I replied he didn't. I said I didn't appreciate all the pulling / tugging as well as him placing the fan in front of me and not saying how long I needed to dry my nails. The receptionist excuse for Ken's behavior was he doesn't speak English which I thought was bananas. I still have a small tip, but asked that he not be assigned to me again. She agreed in doing so. I thought about my experience on my way home. A mani/ pedi is not cheap. If I can't enjoy it and relax I'd rather not return nor refer any more friends to their shop. I'm disappointed. R. Chambers
