I hate to do this and I never do this but I just had the worst gel manicure of my life and want to want people to stay away. My nail tech had no idea what he was doing. The gel is all over my fingers, his hands, and immediately started peeling off my nail after I left the salon. The polis is uneven. There are bubbles. My cuticles looks uneven and ragged. Hopefully he's just new and will learn soon but for $30 I definitely expect better. So so disappointed. I won't be back. read more

I was recommended this nail place since I am from out of town. Upon walking in I received constant stares and the vibe felt weird. They paired me with an older woman who was very very rough on my nails and unfortunately I couldn't communicate with her due to the language barrier. When someone tried to intervene to help me with my issues they didn't communicate with me at all but only with the nail tech. I felt awkward because I didn't know what was going on. They eventually sat with me Le, who was very nice, professional and accommodating. I came back for a second visit, this time I asked for a pedicure with regular polish. The gentleman doing my pedicure was very nice but he wasn't very detailed. He only applied one coat of polish to my toes and only applied the second coat because I inquired. He also did not apply a top coat to my nails until I asked for it. It felt like he didn't care and was only trying to get me in and out. The service was pretty bad. The massages here are A-1 though and that's the only good thing about this place because most of the staff weren't very welcoming or attentive. read more

I recommend this place solely for pedicures. The massages are GREAT! The pedicure itself it just so-so, but the massage! It's a great place to bring your BFFs for a pedi-happy hour because it's BYOB. It's gets busy, but they move pretty fast. I have in the past gotten gel manis and SNS here. They are okay and the color selection is just okay. This was my to go salon for pedicure but lately the few times I come I feel as they don't give me the same service as others. I strictly come for pedicures and always book ahead but when I get seated it's like the argue among themselves to help me I'm sorry I don't look like I have money cause usually I come from a 10 hour shift so I do look a mess but I do make sure to tip well for the service. Around me are more Caucasian people and they get the friendliest service with me getting the half ass service. But I kid you not just go one day & observe you will see what I'm talking about. Still hands down my favorite nail salon in the world. I have had pretty much every single nail tech do my hands and feet and they're all fabulous in their own way. My top two guys are Tim and Tom. They're both so sweet and nice. I think Tom probably speaks better English but they both give a killer massage and nail my (I'm punny) SNS Dip mani and shellac pedi every time. I was upset to find out I can no longer tip on my CC. The chances of me having cash are slim to none so they definitely inconvenienced me this afternoon. The only reason this place is getting 3 stars is because I had the best pedicure ever the manicure was the worst I've ever had. I asked for square and now I have round nails, there was polish all over my hands but missing on places on my nails, and they were jagged. The staff was nice trying to fix the mistake of the nail tech but they sent the same guy over to fix it and he still didn't fix it. It looks like a 5 year old did my nails. All in all, come here for the pedicures you won't be disappointed. Find somewhere else for a manicure though. read more

Y'all, this was Top 3 Worst Manicures of My Life. (The other two were only worse because they actually cut me.) Maybe we have higher standards where I'm from (D.C. area), but this was bad. If I didn't have a photoshoot today (where luckily my nails aren't the sole focus), I would have taken off the polish as soon as I got home. First, very limited selection of polishes to choose from if you're not doing shellac. Second, the towel on which we were working was visibly dirty. It was covered in smudges, other peoples' polish, other peoples' fingernail clippings, etc. Third, no autoclave or otherwise individually wrapped tools in sight. He took all the tools straight out of a drawer. No idea whether they're sanitized between people or not. Judging by the towel, I'm guessing not. Fourth, no base coat was used. For a "professional" manicure. Really? Fifth, even after I asked him to be gentler with the massage it still hurt. Finally, there are obvious bubbles and debris in the polish and you can see the layers between coats. I've posted a photo I took in my car immediately after I left the salon. I came home and immediately washed my hands, then soaked them in diluted tea tree oil (powerful natural disinfectant that works on fungus) just in case. As soon as my photoshoot is over today I'm taking off this polish. You get what you pay for. Never again. read more

PSA: NEVER GO HERE!! I'd give them negative stars if I could. I've been here once before today and they did a mediocre job on my pink and white fill. But today I went right after work so I got to the salon at 6pm and they wouldn't take me. They would not even try. The women asked: "You have an appointment?" I said "No, just need a fill and pedicure." Without hesitation she said, "Sorry, our schedule is full." I said "The sign says 'Walk Ins Welcome' and you're open to 7:30pm." She said "We're just too busy and I'm not going to keep a technician late to fit you in." I argued for a bit but it wasn't worth it. I tried to convey that if Walk Ins are not always welcome then they should not advertise as such. I, as a Walk In, DID NOT FEEL WELCOME. They should say "By appointment Only" or "Appointment Preferred" or "We will attempt to accommodate Walk Ins" or something but this is blatant false advertisement. Do not give this place business. Went to Diamond Nails off S Lamar instead and they were very accommodating, even though they were busy, and did an excellent job. read more

This used to be my favorite nail spot in Austin until today. I went in for a manicure and pedicure and left with bloody fingers. The pedicure was great as always but my manicure was horrendous. The woman cut three of my fingers and did a pretty half hearted paint job. After she cut my first two fingers she tried to wipe the blood with the (dirty) towel under my hands which is unsanitary for me and whoever uses this towel afterwards. She barely apologized and didn't even discount the rate despite making me bleed profusely. I am terribly disappointed with my experience. this is the worst nail salon I have ever been to in a while. I was there for 3 hours for just a mani pedi in the middle of the day on a wednesday. THREE HOURS. I had to ask them for a drink of water which was a big ordeal apparently, but I wasn't expecting a marathon of an appointment. They refused to file my nails how I wanted them, not too many spoke English to even understand my requests. And the price was just as much as I would pay at a nice salon for great service. I had one tech for my pedicure, and when she was done, she just disappeared and no one told me what to do or where to go for ten minutes for my next service (mani). Then my manicurist was just rude... she told me to stop texting...They were just slow, inexperienced, and inefficient. It is certainly not the cleanest or most "polished" of salons, so I didn't have terribly high expectations, but all that said, I will not be returning. If you want good products or a clean establishment or even an offering of water, do not go here. read more

I have been going to great nails for YEARS and have recommended them to many friends but the last 2 visits have led me to look elsewhere. Their once great massages are short and lazy now, and today when I went in I asked for a shellac manicure with Tips and a pedicure and was told it was a 30 minute wait. No problem. I waited and came back 30 minutes later. Halfway through my underwhelming pedicure I was told they didn't have time to do my manicure and tried to say I asked for a natural nail gel manicure. I didn't. I could have gone to another salon who could have accommodated both of my services in the time they asked me to wait. The French pedi I did get is honestly not good either. I asked for the nail tech to make the white line thinner 3 times and they are still super thick and uneven, and $55 before tip. read more

When I did get a menu and asked for the hot stones and gel that was included in my package they told me the menu was old ?!?! This is horrible service and was unprofessional. After three attempts to get my nails done at this place, I was successful yesterday 2/11 around 11:30am. I chose this location because of the positive reviews by other clients. Even after going there three different days and times and being refused because it was really busy, I was for sure it would be worth the experience. After all, if they were THAT busy, the quality of the work must be worth it. It was NOT! CONS 1. If you call to make an appointment, you are wasting your time. Sure whomever you speak to will ask for your name and the time you wish to be seen. That's as far as it goes. The appointment is not noted or taken down in any system. I observed this practice with every call. Most of the ladies that came in "had" an appointment, including myself. It's clearly a first come first serve basis. Which is perfectly okay, just let customers know that. At least two clients vocalized their discontent with this practice and walked out. Two ladies had an 11:30 am appointment and waited until 12:15pm before they were tended to. 2. The nail painting service is below sub par. The "technician" and I use that word VERY loosely, did not paint the entire nails. The sides were left visible. She also added enough of the shellac nail polish to make my fingers look clubbed. Additionally, she would hit my other painted nails and get irritated with me like it was my fault. 3. The technicians spent a good amount of time massaging their clients. My "technician" acted like I was the recently reported Ebola virus. She barely touched me. This is not to play the race card, however I was the only chocolate chip in the room and it seemed pretty obvious from this trip and others that maybe chocolate chips don't frequent this location. I was disappointed to not get that attention. However, I was there for my nails so I got over it quickly. PROS 4. My pedicure went solidly. The foot massage was needed. I had a different technician and she seemed to be able to handle painting within the lines and along my entire nail. 5. The nail salon seemed to sell their massages well. Maybe they should consider making it a massage business. From what I saw, they all have good massages. Prepare to have your limbs catered to for a good 5-8 minutes. Again, I was disappointed my arms and neck were ignored. 6. From start to finish I was there for two hours. I've had a shellac and pedicure done simultaneously and been done much quickly. I walked out and immediately walked back in to have the shellac removed because it was that awful. I showed the "manager" and his response was, "oh my. That's f****d up. How could she paint like that?". I asked to have them removed. He offered to have another technician take the shellac off and redo it. However, I had another appointment to get to within the hour and i was highly irritated. I accepted for the shellac to simply be removed. The technician that took care of the removal was very apologetic and he worked fast while being gentle. I was really pleased. I paid $50 for both the pedicure and the shellac manicure. I didn't bother trying to argue for the $25 to be refunded. After 2.5 hours and being disappointed the best thing for me to do was to leave. I hope this helps anyone looking for a place to get their nails catered to. Maybe it was a bad day, but I would not waste my time coming to this establishment. I am new to Austin, about 6months, and rely on reviews by other yelpers as I navigate my way around this city. read more

I like the ambiance of this place and their prices, but I was so uncomfortable and disappointed with my service on my last visit a month ago. I got a mani and pedi, and the got one tech to do each, simultaneously (which is fine.) However, both techs were sick and repeatedly coughed on me, not covering their mouth. I washed my hands and feet but got sick the next day. The gentleman doing my mani was speeding through the shellac mani, and not wanting to take time to fix a bubble, just tried smoothing it out. 2 days later, 7 out of 10 fingernails had chips in the paint. I'd heard so much about Great Nails so when I was in the vicinity, I headed on over to do some work and get pampered. I was surprised when it was a little shop as I'd assumed it was bigger. The outside does not match the inside though - it's got clubby music, new nice chairs, and at any one time, it looks like they're working on about 10 people. I was able to walk in and get a pedi with a shellac manicure for $50. And the massage... oh the massage. I liked the leg one but the neck massage was evenb better. That dude has magic hands. So this is a 5 star with a caveat - it's worth going if you don't have to wait. read more

GET YOUR ASS IN HERE. If you're going anywhere else in Austin to get your feet did----STOP IT! $25-28 for a pedi???? That comes with an amaaaaaaazing massage. No joke....these people put their backs into it to give you a foot/leg massage. They WORK into your muscles and really work out any tension. PLUS...I'm fairly certain that in certain countries, the massage chair I was sitting in and I are now considered legally married. Orgasmic. So good. Worked my back so thoroughly. mmmmmmm...I want to go back just to pay them to let me sit in that damn chair. The guy who did my feet was so GOOD!! He was friendly and kind and so accommodating. My pedi looked spectacular. (I went with french...my friend brought in her own dark eggplant color)....and we were satisfied. WELL DONE! Cheap pedi, you're allowed to booze it up (several people came in with champagne or beers)....and the leg massage of a lifetime......Why aren't you getting your pedis done here?? I love this place. The trick is finding the staff you like and sticking with them, and making an appointment in advance. I love Harold - he's incredible - and have had nothing but good experiences. When you have an appointment, you rarely wait more than 2-3 minutes to get started. Also, the massage that comes with their pedicures is hands down the best I've had and I've probably been to 20+ salons. This place can get very busy and loud as it's much more social than many other nail salons (seems like a social meeting spot for friends, and they let you bring your own wine / beer to enjoy while you get pampered). If you want a quiet, zen experience go elsewhere, but if you want a really well done mani / pedi for affordable prices and don't mind a busier / louder place, this is a wonderful spot! read more

I was a little worried about this spot with its super polarized reviews, but I wanted a cheap manicure before New Years Eve so got a last-minute afternoon appointment and met up with a girlfriend. It was PACKED! We saw lots of walk-ins get turned away. There had to have been at least 25 staff members all super busy serving people. The facilities are actually very nice. I hear they just went through a remodel and it shows. After a 10 minute wait I got seated and a very nice Asian guy went to work on my shellac manicure. I showed him a picture of what I wanted - black with gold sparkles raining from the cuticle and he said 'no problem.' This guy was like a nail Picasso - he was so focused and precise with his job. He did a fantastic job and delivered exactly what I wanted. As some reviews have mentioned they ARE a bit rough on the cuticle trimming and I did get one cut area but I didn't notice it at the time. My friend got a regular manicure and loved hers as well. The combined cost for my shellac and her regular was $37! We will be baaaaaack read more

Thought I'd give it another shot so I went on a Tuesday with my friend... SUPER BUSY! This time I made an appointment (even though the one day I was told it was not necessary) and I still had to wait an hour (on a Tuesday!). I asked if it was always like that and the lady doing my nails said "yes". The only thing I like about the place, is the massaging chair. Other than that, she was painting my nails with gel shellac, and she didn't even go all the way to the cuticle. I pointed it out and asked her to paint it more, she didn't. The sides were neglected too. Not even a few days later and there's chipping and peeling. I work from home on a computer... there has been nothing I've done to cause this! I went to Diamond nails in March for this shellac manicure... WAY better experience and it lasted almost a month! All I can say is I will never go back to Great Nails just because of the prices. I've been to Great Nails a couple of times now and after the last visit I will not go again. I made an appointment for a friend and I for mani pedis. They sat us in our pedi chairs and my guy asked me what I wanted. Since I had recently gotten a gel pedi I just wanted him to fill it and do the rest of the pedi stuff (smoothing our dry skin, massage, etc) but he didn't understand what I wanted, minutes later he tells me it will cost 15 for the fill plus 25 for the pedi. This wasn't quoted to me earlier so I opted for a regular pedi. It went ok but he didn't really massage and seemed irritated. My mani was done in my pedi seat which was really uncomfortable and akward. He cut some of my cuticles too short causing them to bleed and didn't paint my nails properly. The next day it was already chipped and my nails/ cuticles looked horrible compared to the way I had them before the mani. I was hot in the salon and they rush alot of their services in order to take more customers. I really wanted this place to be my nail place but after my last visit I'll look elsewhere. read more

My mom and I went here on a Monday evening around 4:30, we walked in and said that we wanted one mani and one pedi and they said they couldn't do the mani because we didn't make an appointment (which I totally understand). They NEVER said anything about helping us with the pedi, and then when we very clearly and loudly articulated that we would like to make an appointment all the people working there completely deliberately ignored us while the . We went to VIV nails instead and even though there was only one tech there she stayed late and helped us both. Definitely won't be giving "great" nails our service. Finally! A place with high ratings that deserves it! We (there were four of us) went at 11 and got right in. The place filled up soon after with people waiting in all of the available seating. The massage was amazing! I typically don't like massages of any kind but I could have been done after just the massage. Not one single step was rushed. My feet are extra ticklish so he took great care in not making the issue worse. It was $25 for the pedi. He said for a mani/pedi it would be $37. Can't beat that with a stick! All of us were more than pleased. We plan on going back for the full treatment in a couple of weeks. read more

Was in Austin last week on travel and stopped by here for a mani-pedi based on the great Yelp reviews. While the price was right and the pedicure was as fabulous as promised, I had a bad experience with my manicure. The man who did it was not very confident and managed to dig a little too hard into the cuticles on my left hand. I'm posting a photo of the end result. I've never had anything look so bad after a manicure. If I'm ever back in town, I'll definitely come back for pedicure, but that's it. read more
