Braces AGAIN at the age of 32? NOT an exciting prospect. I had (keyword HAD) an anterior open bite; my luck, the hardest thing to fix in orthodontics outside of jaw surgery, which is costly and downright scary. What can I say about the sheer genius of Dr. Doug and his team at Great Neck Orthodontics? It took A LOT of creativity and innovation to correct my severe open bite (which made it hard for me to eat, not want to smile anymore, and was also causing a worsening lisp as the bite was opening more with age). So many orthodontists tried to sell me on Invisalign (a prospect that I knew in my heart wouldn't work for such a difficult case), but Dr. Doug and Dr. Ellis were the ONLY orthodontists who were honest. They DID submit my case to Invisalign, originally thinking it might be an option, but they did the RIGHT THING and came back to me saying, "we really don't think this is going to work, despite what Invisalign's system is telling us." They offered to refund me or go with the somewhat difficult option/commitment of braces accompanied with TADs (little titanium screws in my jaw) to move my molars into proper alignment, which would then allow us to close my front bite. I won't bore you with the details of my arduous treatment (so much went into it), but know this: I've worked in the medical field for a long time, and there is no other doctor that would have spent the hours of thinking and planning and adjusting, and even CREATING specific devices JUST FOR MY CASE to give me the results we have finally reached, almost a year and a half later. I am (hopefully) about 2 months away from finally getting my braces off, and I am so excited and SO thankful for the care of Dr. Doug and his team. It has been a long road, but I can finally bite through my food! I no longer have a lisp! I was never allowed to get veneers because of my open bite (only makes it look worse), but now I have that option, as well! My whole life, all I've ever wanted was a beautiful smile. Perhaps if I had an orthodontist like Dr. Doug back when I was 13, I wouldn't have been in this predicament, but such is life. I am so unbelievably excited to be nearing the end of my adult braces journey, but even now (braces still on), my results make me smile - inside and out. Thank you so much, Dr. Doug and Dr. Ellis. There are not enough positive reviews I can give to Dr. Doug and the entire staff at Great Neck Orthodontics. I came to Dr. Doug for an Invisalign consult after getting my braces off almost 20 years ago and never wearing my retainers. This caused my teeth and jaw to completely shift, and left me with crowded and crooked teeth, and an open bite. Prior to coming to Dr. Doug I got two consultations from other orthodontists, who told me I would need multiple teeth pulled and jaw surgery in order for them to take me on as a client, and obtain positive results they felt comfortable with. Additionally they quoted me almost DOUBLE what Dr. Doug's office did. Dr. Doug told me that I didn't need any teeth pulled and by just shaving slightly between my bottom teeth he could fix my crowding. While he did tell me that I would never achieve a perfectly aligned bite without jaw surgery, he assured me that he would most likely be able to get my top and bottom teeth to touch, and best case actually close my bite without surgery. Dr Doug also explained three types of new technology that would help to move my teeth quicker and achieve better results, something the other orthodontists I went to knew nothing about. Dr. Doug sat with me for an hour during my first consultation answering my many questions, and then prior to beginning treatment had two separate 30 minute phone conversations with me answering more questions I had. Dr. Doug initially told me that my Invisalign treatment would take 18 months to 2 years to complete. However, thanks to Dr. Doug's amazing treatment plan I ended up only needing treatment for a year and 2 months and my results are better than both Dr. Doug and I expected! My top and bottom teeth are completely straight and my bite completely closed! I cannot recommend Dr. Doug enough. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and it is easy to tell that he truly loves what he does. Additionally, his bedside manner, and kind, patient, and caring personality are qualities that are few and far between with many doctors. Dr. Douglas Palaganas from Great Neck Orthodontics made me feel comfortable getting braces at 55! I first had braces over 40 years ago, when I was a kid. That experience was a kind of sadistic torture that I never wanted to revisit. However, it became a medical necessity because my teeth starting doing damage to my gums and palate. The first day my braces were applied, the "bonding", was nothing like when I was a kid. I was waiting for the pain and it never came. The next day, there was naturally a bit of soreness, especially when chewing things like a steak (cut in little pieces), but nothing near what I had felt in the past. Aside from being exceedingly competent, Dr. "Doug" is absolutely pleasant, he speaks to you like a normal person and is just a top notch medical practitioner. His staff is also carefully chosen. They are the most courteous and competent staff I have seen in any medical office. Had I known about this practice, I would've done this a long time ago. I wouldn't bother going anywhere else. It's an extremely professional and polished practice - and yet warm, too - as if their staff & their patients are one big family! I have every confidence in both doctors - which makes scheduling appointments very easy. I'm always impressed, too, at how they manage to stay true to their schedules - and we're always seen on time! I appreciate that Dr. Ellis & Dr. Doug always explain what needs to be done - and what the approach will be. Dr. Janie Ellis I can't say enough how satis I am with the way my sons teeth are turning out. i had gone to three other orthodontists to get different plans which some were more aggressive. Dr Ellis knew ex how to plan it and extractions needed to be done in order to create the space and we used the Pallet expander to create the space. He's front teeth we're at a high risk for sports injuries he had buck teeth but yet in about six to eight eight moths they looked alined w the rest of his teeth. Dr Ellie's is so humble yet such a dedicated and Perfectionist when it comes to making sure the smile is as perfect as can be. She's available through emails at all times. And the office staff are all kind and professional. COVID is taken very seriously in her office as well! overall very satisfied will highly recommend with cases that are complicated! Dr. Doug & Dr. Ellis are fantastic!! One of my sons has high functioning autism, ADHD, OCD and has a terrible fear of ANY doctor. We mainly see Dr. Doug, but both of my boys have seen Dr. Ellis as well. Both have a tremendous amount of patience and keep their patients engaged during all aspects of the visit. This was the best Doctor's experience I have ever had. The office was totally organized, we were taken early, the staff and the Dr were absolutely incredible.
