Do it! We did the Muir Woods Tour. Buddy talked about San Fran as he drove through, picking people up. He detoured a couple of streets to answer people's questions (e.g., Where's Lombard crooked? What's the tallest hill?). He handled the streets and cliffed roads with cautious ease. He lets you know what you need to know (as a tourist) and leaves out the opinionated junk. He gets to know who he's driving and does his best to make connections. The van was nice, clean, and rode well. The tour was more than expected, and recommended. read more

Our driver Doug was 30 minutes late picking us up at our hotel according to our itinerary. I had to call the office to find out if he was even coming. When we did finally get picked up at our hotel we were the last ones so we had awful seats on the hour ride out to Sonoma County. He gave us papers to fill out for lunch choices but no pens it all seemed very unorganized for about 200/per person. Because he was behind schedule our first stop got cut short and I was 5 minutes late getting back to the van because I was waiting to pick up a bottle of wine I had purchased. He was very rude to me when I got back on the van. The winery's were nice but overall I would not recommended this experience. read more

I loved this tour. It was my first time in SF and my friends and I decided we couldn't go north and stay away from the wineries. I searched yelp for ideas and found Great Pacific Tours. The ratings were good and the price was right. I booked right away. We were staying at a hotel where Great Pacific makes pickups, so it was very convenient. The driver was right on time (said they'd arrive between 8:30am and 8:45am)--arriving at 8:45am. We started by picking up the other members of our group, with a total of 13 passengers. Along the way our tour guide Gordie (pronounced Jordee) told us fun facts about the areas we were driving passed. He even stopped by the Golden Gate bridge to give us super tourists some time for pictures. We stopped at three wineries and arrived back at the hotel around 5pm. The first winery called Viansa was nice. We were one of the first groups there so we got a space at the bar. The only negative about this winery was that there was an abundance of flies, but that didn't take away from the wine. I bought an amazing Vino Rosato for my mom. As part of the tour we get to taste 4 wines from a selected list. If you like something and want to get a glass it's $5. I got a glass :) The second winery was my favorite. It's called Bartholomew Park Winery. They had the most refreshing Savignon Blanc and amazing Syrah. I bought both. :) As part of the tour we got to taste 6 of their different wines. All were amazing. As part of the tour we had someone walk only our group through their wine selection, it was nice and private. The guy guiding us through the tasting was hilarious and not hesitant to give us an extra taste of a specific wine if we asked for it. My friends and I had a great time at this winery. After the two stops we had lunch at a restaurant in a small town in Sonoma. We had an option of different dishes and my grilled chicken sandwich with grilled apple slices on warm chiabatta bread was something to write home about. The last winery specialized in sparkling wine. I'm not a fan of this type of wine, but still enjoyed the guided tour. It was definitely informative. Not my cup of tea but others on the tour who enjoy sparkling wine seemed to really enjoy it. After a long day we headed back to the hotel. After arriving I realized I'd left my favorite scarf on the bus. I was carrying so much stuff and for some reason thought I'd stuffed it in my purse. I was wrong. I emailed Great Pacific Tours to see if they could mail it to me. Within a day they emailed me back, told me they found it, and said they would mail it out to me. I got it in the mail a day later and couldn't believe how nice and accommodating they were. Great group of people over at Great Pacific. I highly recommend this tour. read more

I just took my very first wine tour through the fine folks at Great Pacific. It was one of my favourite days of my entire California vacation! The bus wasn't too big - 13 of us plus our fab driver. That helped keep an intimate feeling to the day, and we all became very chatty with each other after our first glass of wine or two or three. Our guide, Doug, was outstanding. A genuinely friendly and very knowledgeable guy, I learned about everything from wine to oak trees to raptors to hiking trips with his wife on the tour. I never thought I could listen to someone talk from 9 AM to 5 PM without getting sick of him or her, but Doug proved me wrong! Bonus: he was a very safe driver. For under $100 each, the tour took us two three wineries plus a cute and tasty Italian-style bistro for lunch. My favourite winery was first one (started with a V?), but all three were very unique and had their own charms. We got the chance to try out plenty of different wines and learn all about their fermentation processes, etc. Plus, we got to spend lots of time in the sunshine! Next time I'm in the Bay Area, I'll definitely book another tour with Great Pacific. It was a wonderful day! read more

For what it was, this was a great tour (the SF City tour). Now you have to decide whether what it was is what you want. This tour is definitely not a party bus. It's really for the mature crowd, and that's who was on the tour the day I went (I mean 40+, not 80+). The bus is very comfortable, modern and spotless. They pick you up at your hotel and off you go for 3.5 hours. I found the tourguide Cindy to be very personable and entertaining, spoke just enough and was competent. It took us all around the city, which was on a busy Saturday. Saw many of the major sites, but even in 3.5 hours you can only do so much. One issue for me is that you are basically hermetically sealed inside this bus, they don't even open the ceiling vent, and this was a gorgeous sunny day. You get A/C or nothing. So it is really the opposite of an open air bus. On a rainy day, that's just fine, but wasn't what I wanted on a sunny day. You do get out to walk around at several sites, but mostly you are on the bus. A quality experience, and I thought the price of $45 was very reasonable. read more

Great Pacific Tour offers a number of tours of the San Francisco area. My wife and I picked the San Francisco City Tour that cost about $112 for the two of us. We were picked up in a touring minibus at our hotel promptly at the prearranged time. After make a couple of more stops to pick up addition people, our group of about 14 people started the tour. Our driver/guide was a young woman who spoke several languages fluently and had an in-depth knowledge of the landmarks and history of the city. She was very personable and easily fielded all questions. The tour was very comprehensive and lasted about four hours. It covered everything we expected to see and more. This included Twin Peaks Summit that is the second highest point in the city and provided spectacular views of the Bay Area. Upon completion of the tour and at our request we were driven to Fisherman's Wharf. We both thoroughly enjoyed the tour and thought that it was well worth the cost. read more

Judith, our guide, was very informative with a few quirky facts as well as a pleasant overhead voice. She was great at engaging the passengers and seemed to know a little about all the cultures and countries of the people on our tour. The second tour to Muir Woods included enough time to explore, and the stop in Sausalito on the way back to San Francisco was not only stunning, but a great place to grab a snack after the short hike! After a tremendous amount of research on tour companies, I chose Great Pacific Tour Co. for a wine country tour on a recent visit to San Francisco with my two sisters and my mother. I chose this company because they were one of very few who offered a Sonoma & Napa day tour. Also, this tour included lunch in the price of the ticket. You can't beat that. Our driver picked us up at the hotel right around 9 a.m. in a 14 passenger van. The van was very, very clean and very nice. Our driver was Jordy, and he was extremely nice & accommodating. This was the perfect sized group to do this tour with and everyone was very friendly. We visited 2 wineries in Sonoma before stopping for lunch at the Swiss Hotel in the Sonoma town square. Our party was seated in the heated patio area that had grapevines growing overhead with grapes hanging everywhere. The ambiance was great and the food was even better. Luckily I had two sisters and my mother eating so I got to try several different dishes. After lunch we visited Domaine Chandon in the Napa area and were given a tour of the bottling facilities and a crash course in the making of sparkling wines. Very interesting. After the tour with Pauline we were shown to a private tasting room and seated at a large table where breads & cheese spreads were available to taste with our sparkling wines. The bubbly went to our heads, that's for sure. Anyway, I could go on and on. The grounds of the wineries were beautiful and I wish that there had been more time to explore. A boring and expensive bus ride. Blew right past THE San Francisco icon, The Golden Gate Bridge, without a word and didn't stop at the easy pull off vista where EVERY OTHER TOUR was stopping to let people take photos. Our guide never said ANYTHING about San Francisco other than "we're going to be getting out of here soon". I could hear people speculating as to what this building or that building was but not a peep from our guide. Maybe he knew something and would answer if asked but that's why I have GOOGLE. A TOUR implies an itinerary and information you might not think to ask about. When he did speak, he was a real Debbie-Downer; "There are wild pigs here and you can shoot them but bring a friend with a big gun too because the pigs will chase you, kill you, and eat you". But what about this huge bridge?? Nothing. Muir Woods is beautiful. The drive is nice. But take a shuttle for $5 instead. For the record, my wife had taken a different tour last year and learned things and was entertained and was excited for me to get what she got. This ain't that!! read more

We stopped at Jacuzzi and had unique blends and tastings of 5 wines that are not available in retail stores then went across the street to Cline vineyards for 5 more tastings. We had twenty minutes after lunch to shop or do more free wine, cheese and chocolate tasting that the guide Peter recommended. We had a blast on our wine tour! They picked us up at our hotel at 8:30am with a mini bus and we had a glass of wine in our hand by 10:00am. Visited some nice vineyards. Had a good lunch. Our tour guide, Cynthia, was very knowledgeable about the area and had a lot of interesting tidbits to share. The groups are small, so you get a more intimate experience at the vineyards. The last place we visited was a champagne vineyard and we combined our group with 2 other Great Pacific Tour groups so it wasn't as fun. I would have preferred to stay with our smaller group as we had done at the prior vineyards. Overall, we had fun though. There's bound to be a few interesting characters on your tour and the bus ride home is much more lively than the ride there! read more

This tour company was highly recommended by our hotel, Mark Hopkins. I read many reviews and thought it was the best choice for us. Perhaps had we not had several hiccups along our tour, we might have enjoyed it more. First, the driver was 30 minutes late picking us up, the door on the bus we were on malfunctioned so we had to switch buses, the tour didn't even take us to Napa just to Yountville. The tour took us to two wineries in Sonoma directly across the street from each other owned by the same family. Although the presentation at each winery was great and informative it took up most of our time there and didn't leave much time to look around or shop. Lastly, we were told by our hotel that the cost of the tour was $129 and when we were asked to pay we were told by the tour company it was actually $134 that our hotel gave us the wrong price. Our tour ended early and we had plenty of time to stop by another winery. What was worse is that I sent a private message to the tour company letting them know about our experience. Not only were they rude in their reply, they also insinuated that we were drunk and confused about the time because of being in a different time zone. We were neither tipsy nor confused but rather disappointed in their company. I WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN just due to poor customer service and misleading information. read more

We found Great Pacific Tours via allsanfranciscotours.com We did the 9 hour Sonoma/Napa wine tour with lunch included. It's just shy of $100 per person. Tour starts at 8:30am pick up from your hotel. The "luxury van" was very comfortable and our guide, Malcolm, was great. He went the extra mile, both literally and figuratively. He stopped at a few extra points so we could take some nice photos of the Golden Gate bridge. He also gave us a little city tour as we were heading out of the city. Once we were in Sonoma, our first stop was the Larson Family Winery. Next stop was Cline Cellars, then lunch at The Plaza Bistro. We had some time after lunch to walk around and check out the shops. Once time was up we headed back on the van and headed to our last winery of the tour, Domaine Chandon. The winery stops are never the same, so it is quite possible we'd do this tour again. We had a total of 8 people plus our guide in our group. But the max people for this tour is 13 (plus guide). I like that it's a small group. If you are staying at one of the hotels that the tour does pickups, then this is a really convenient tour. One of the best tours i've been on to sonoma and napa valley. We had Peter who was a great tour guide and the bus ride was a pleasure. I would highly recommend using them and am so glad i did this tour over the big bus tours that go to the wineries as well. When you chose this tour theres the perk of being with a smaller group, the wineries respect you more and the tastings are included which is a huge deal because otherwise they can get pricey. We took the Sonoma and Napa wine tour, and it was great. Our guide, Peter, picked us up at our hotel right on time. The van was clean and the ride was smooth. Peter shared interesting information about both areas. We started in Sonoma. We visited Larson Winery which was nice, and spent a little less than an hour. Next stop was Viansa, which is a larger winery. Viansa charges $5 for tasting, but we were not charged as part of the tour. We spend about an hour and a half, just enough to do wine tasting, browse the shop, and walk around the winery. Our third stop was Sonoma Town for lunch. We had our group lunch at Swiss Hotel. The food was very good. I wished we had more time in Sonoma Town to walk around. Our last stop was Domaine Chandon. Before champagne tasting we were given a tour of the facility, short lessons on grapes, the company itself and how champagne is made. The tasting was outside on a beautiful patio. Our guide in this winery was very knowledgable. This last stop conluded our wine tour. Peter drove us back to our hotel. Overall, the tour was great, I wish we can spent more time here and there, so I should give it 4 stars. However what our guide, Peter did earn the 5th star. I realized that I left a shopping bag in the van after Peter dropped us off. As soon as I get to the room I called GPT and they said that they will hold the bag for me in the office so I could pick it up. I was planning to stop by at their office on the way to the airport on Tuesday. Our tour was on Sunday, and the next day - Monday around noon I received a phone call from Peter. He told me that he was more than happy to drop off my bag at the hotel for me. When I get back to the hotel that afternoon I receive a message from the concierge that there was a bag waiting for me. I was very happy because the bag contained souvenirs from the wineries for my in-laws. We are planning on going back to San Francisco late summer and we will do this tour again with GPT. This tour is great for who wants to have a simple wine appreciation experience with great value. The tour guide (Doug) is very informative and will keep you entertained throughout the whole trip. He will tell you lots of stories and give you many tips. Doug is respectful and caring. The staff at the wineries we visit are very friendly and will let you taste a wide variety of wines. In this trip we had the chance to taste white wine, red wine as well as sparkling wine/champagne. Still, it is important to note that this is an introductory wine tasting experience. There were 9 family members and friends in our group. We wanted to see the best San Francisco had to offer plus Sausalito and Muir Woods. Our guide was Cynthia who was extremely well versed in the history plus current events of San Francisco not to mention, she had a wonderful easy going personality. For two full days she carted us all over the city, red woods, Golden Gate Bridge, and Sausalito. We had a ball and she hit it off perfectly with our entire clan. On June 12, 2017, we took the 'double feature' tour, ie, a tour of SF city in the morning and a tour to Muir Woods in the afternoon in a different bus with different driver (same tour company) Our morning driver was apathetic and had no great appreciation for this beautiful city. As a tour guide he would have been better suited to selling used cars... He showed us a couple highlights and tried to convince us he's shown us a "special" spot only he knows about. Oops, here comes another tour bus that must have seen the memo. I could go on, he was that bad, but I need to get to the afternoon tour. It was saved by us being out of the bus for 2 hours and on our own in the Woods. Loved the Woods and story behind it. Parking lot was full so for that reason I'm glad we were with a tour. This tour was nothing special. I wouldn't recommend it to my friends. The tour guide wouldn't pick us up from The Mission, even though it only stated airport hotels were included. This caused us some stress in the morning trying to find a hotel we weren't staying at during morning rush hour. It was mostly older people and a couple of middle-aged people with a young kid, so there wasn't much socializing. The first winery, Viansa, was a total bummer because our wine connoisseur finished our tastings (5 wines) in 15 minutes. The second winery, Cline, was a really good experience with fun tastings. Lunch was just OK - small portions. And the tour of Chandon (3/3) was mostly informational - so kind of a dull way to end (literally a buzz kill). 3 wineries just seemed like not enough. We'll definitely go with a tour starting from Sonoma or Napa next time so we get a better value. read more

I am unsure of the overall tour due to us not making it because one of the people in our party got sick that morning. The concierge arranged our tour so we had no information or contact info to cancel. The concierge took my credit card number to hold our reservation and I was charged $250 for a tour none of us made. Once I got home and seen the charge I disputed it with my credit card company because nowhere on their site did it state you will be charged 50% of the total charge if you are unable to make the tour. I am very upset for the charges due to none of that information being disclosed to me rather it from the concierge or the actual tour company. read more
