This is my go-to spot for Chinese food, I absolutely love it! I've been coming here for over 20 years, and it's consistently great. Their General Tso's chicken is, hands down, the best in Huntsville. The portions are generous, and I always order the veggie egg rolls because they're fresh every time. They've also added pan-fried and steamed dumplings, and I love the pan-fried pork ones, definitely a must-try! The staff has always been incredibly friendly, which makes a big difference. Great food at a very good price, most Chinese places downtown are way overpriced for what they serve, I got both plates for 10 each and they are loaded down. Service was good they are very nice it was busy as well. It's kind of buffet style where you go down a line and tell them what you want and they put it in the container. Very clean it's a little hole in the wall place but it's almost directly across from the hospital downtown so it's a convenient location. Tables are nice and spaced out and plenty of room. Plants around the restaurant make it feel fresh inside. Only didn't get five stars the sesame chicken doesn't really have any sesame on it and the fried rice isn't very well seasoned. Second visit and it wasn't good at all. Just after lunch and the food had been rehydrated with water. It was unpleasant & a turn off. I asked for a fresh cooked order of chicken and broccoli since we only wanted carrots & cannot eat broccoli. The server kept acting as if she didn't hear me correctly so finally she said "okay no broccoli," while simultaneously scooping pieces of chicken and carrots out of the crap that had been there all day. On top of that, since it would've meant filling our large cup up, she just DID NOT fill it up and, of course, we noticed. I waited for fresh cooked chicken egg rolls, these people try to convince you to take everything old ,"we just cook these five minutes ago," that was a lie. I mean anyone could see that most of the food was dry & dead. There was no real attempt to make us happy. Every single Chinese restaurant in Huntsville is the exact same. Driving down Whitesburg Drive Great Panda caught my attention and we decided to stop. I didn't read any reviews before going inside to check the restaurant out. I have been looking for good Chinese food ever since returning to the great USA! Inside the restaurant features several hot dishes already cooked and sitting in warming trays. There is no waiting on food to be cooked here. Hubs and I tried the Kung Pao Chicken, Pepper Beef, Sesame Chicken, Broccoli Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Lo mein, white rice, fried rice, hot and sour soup and egg drop soup. The ladies behind the counter were very nice and helpful. The Kung Pao Chicken tasted the best of all the dishes. I noticed some broccoli was mushy and odd green color indicating it was old or overcooked. The food is Americanized and has way too much sugar for my taste. Please don't change great Panda, your food is delicious. You can tell that it isn't a cookie cutter "cheap" Chinese place based on the actual flavor and quality to the food. Don't get me wrong, it isn't fine dinning Chinese food or anything, but it definitely quality, tasty, while still being that "cheap" Chinese taste that one hopes and expects from a place like this. Anyone claiming "slimy" or "syrupy" food is lying, doesn't know better, or straight up has alternative motives. I'm just a regular dude that may have left one other review on yelp, I'm not sure, but I had to for this place. This is the first time I have been here, but not the last. this is without a doubt the worst Chinese I have ever had. Nothing tasted fresh And it smelled slightly like wet dog. The white rice was like minute made rice. I got a plate to try three different chicken dishes, sesame, crispy chicken and General Tso's. The crispy chicken should be called mushy chicken. This is not a fancy restaurant! In fact you go through a line and pick your dinner from the steam tables on the other side of the line. You are served in a to-go container, which you can take out or eat at one of the tables there! There were 5 of us in our party; my son and family. Fortunately between them and the owners (very friendly and helpful) It was suggested I order Kung Pao chicken, which was said to be extra spicy. Not for me. Luckily they have extra small containers of a delicious smoky sauce. That made my dinner amazingly delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food. There's so much to try that looked amazing. I will tell the reader this Kung Pao chicken was unlike any I've ever tasted. Not overly battered, it made this dish very unique! I chose noodles instead of steamed or fried rice. MY FAVORITE CHINESE RESTAURANT! I've been coming to Great Panda since I was a little girl. They used to be located in the food court of the old Parkway Place Mall until they did their renovations. The restaurant is small and is set up buffet style. There's about 4-5 booths and a few small tables which hold 2-4 individuals each. You can also choose to sit at the bar close to the buffet. Great Panda now and has been located in the heart of Huntsville ever since. Their location makes it perfect for lunch hours because it's near the hospital and many downtown offices. It is also pretty popular on Sunday afternoons when church lets out. I've also ordered delivery from them at lunch and they are very fast. You won't find a better price for the delicious quality of food Great Panda has. I always choose the noodles, 1/2 crispy chicken and 1/2 sesame chicken with an egg roll. My parents always order their broccoli and beef. You can't really go wrong with anything offered here. I can't decide on my favorite chicken, but both the crispy and sesame chicken are perfectly seasoned with sauce, but not overdone.
