In doing so, I either walk or jog around Coan Park. It's a lovely place nestled on the edges of Kirkwood and Edgewood. It sits across from some of the local businesses, as well as some of the areas lovely homes, and Sammye Coan Middle School. The park has a basketball court the looks to be sponsored by the Atlanta Hawks, a large playground area, an indoor area that was used during the election cycle for early voting, covered pavilions, a softball/baseball field, a large grassy area for football, soccer, etc., and workout equipment that comes complete with instructions on how to use each piece. I think the equipment is the best park of the park! Oh, there are plenty of shady areas to rest under on hot summer days, water fountains to keep you and your four legged friends hydrated, and things to do. The park is a great option for exercise, as I see folks out doing yoga and group fitness classes on my morning runs. Try it out and let me know what you think. Now, full disclosure, parking can be scarce when there are plenty of things happening in and around the park, but MARTA runs right nearby and is a great option!

The venue serves some pretty tasty yet small food like poke tacos, sliders, and fries. The cocktails look very artesian. I can understand why people love this place. I hate having to pay for parking and this place only validates for 2 hours. There is not a bathroom upstairs so you have to go downstairs. You have to rent the dartboards upstairs. It takes a while to get drinks, even when they are not busy. The food is tasty but small.

We decided to do Lady Alexandra. The instructions were clear. The puzzles were difficult but all made sense. We did need some clues to help us along though and it was easy to use the walkie talkie to request them. We had a full hour and could see the timer in the main room. I had such a blast and can't wait to come back! The pricing is really good too - about $40 pp with tax.

It wasn't too challenging or simple. The hardest thing was how to use the walkie talkie since it was my first time LOL. Angelica had to interventions and tell us to let go of the black button on the walkie talkie. We were a bit stumped with how some of the puzzles work because I never thought I could do this in particular to find clues. Some of the visuals and props could've needed some work like painting, antiqueness, and productional set up. But the room was pretty clear with what needed to be solved. Their wooden placards for escaping or failing the puzzle were mediocre though The person working when we ended took some not great pictures (and very crooked) but kind enough to retake . Another thing so I didn't like is that when we opened the final door to the actual room, the timer kept going. So we don't really know when we finished (or if we were even close to the leaderboard). We got to throw 3 different types of hatchets and we paid extra to throw knives. Unlike some places, there is no alcohol served here. It's about one-fourth mile from the Oakland City train station--just a short walk from the station gates. Cross over Campbellton Road and head down Oakland Drive until you reach the park entrance. If you're driving, there are two dozen parking spaces near the pool. The park itself has been open since 1909 but construction on the pool was just completed this year. Its official ribbon cutting ceremony was in July 2015. There's a little something for everyone at this City of Atlanta pool. For the history buffs, there are photo tributes to the Atlanta-based civil rights activist, Reverend James Orange. For those who want to cool off without getting submerged, there is a splash pad. Those who don't want to get wet at all can stay dry on a patch AstroTurf under (what else) an orange tent. The pool isn't designed for lap swim or for diving because there aren't any lane dividers and its max depth is 3 feet 6 inches. It reminds me of a large backyard pool. There are lifeguards poolside to keep everyone safe and one side of the pool has orange buckets that dump out cool water every few seconds. It's open seven days of the week from 12:30 until 8pm. Members of the community can swim for free for the first 3.5 hours, from 12:30 to 4pm. After that they charge an admission. Their fee schedule is as follows: Children under age 5 - Free Children 6-16 years - $2 Adults 17-54 years - $4 Adults over 55 years - $2 Visitors should register for membership and present their membership cards when visiting the pool. You can do that onsite or online at www.usamanagement.com/cityofatlanta. You can also find information about renting the pool for a special event or party. The nearby playground, basketball court and greenspace make the James Orange Swimming Pool a great pick for birthday parties, family reunions and BBQ get-togethers! Organized co-ed adult league kickball is very, very popular right now (and has been the past four…read moreor five years) in the young adult communities in many cities as both a social scene and also as a new recreational activity. WAKA (World Adult Kickball Association) seems to be the most popular kickball league in Atlanta, though it's getting some stiff competition lately from Go Kickball. WAKA games are played at Hammond Park near Perimeter Mall (In the Sandy Springs / Dunwoody area) and at Piedmont Park in Midtown. Occasionally other league game play locations become an additional option (Candler Park, Coan Park, or Marcus Center). Park play venues and days of the week that games are played are denoted by Divisions (Thrasher, Lightning, Liberty etc) You can register as an individual (free agent) and they will place you on a team. You can also sign up with 15 or so friends and create your own team. Fees vary, but generally run between 65 to 75 dollars for an eight week season. For your money, in addition to organized game play, you get a tee shirt and 2-3 season parties (typically at the league bar). The fee finances 2 or three parties at the league bar (where all the teams gather for after-game socializing, drinking and eating). League members also get discounts at the league bar on certain beverages and food items (but you often have to ask your server or bartender). Said discounts are only good on game day (rain or shine) even if games get canceled due to bad weather conditions. There are similarities and differences when comparing WAKA with Go Kickball. Both organizations have the "Kickball Culture" thing going which I will attempt to describe. Both are dominated by young professional types, mostly single, in their mid twenties to early thirties. You will find a small percentage are folks just out of college and, even fewer, some folks in their mid to late thirties; however, they make up an even smaller percentage. Many married / engaged / otherwise involved couples will also play on teams with or without their single comrades. Some describe the culture as akin to people re-living their frat / sorority days. The culture is also similar to the Hash Hound Harriers in that imbibing (before, during and after game play) is prevalent. Also similar to HHH , team names often have sexual innuendo in them (Multiple Scorgasms, Big Red Balls, My Couch Pulls Out But I Don't, ..Etc). There seems to be a fair amount of hooking up or coupling going on (among the singles who play kickball mainly to meet significant others) but with the numbers game of 60% guys and 40% women, the women have the clear advantage in that area. The most attractive and aggressive men generally have the advantage in beating the odds. WAKA generally has better parties but is more clique heavy / insular; whereas, Go Kickball generally (but not necessarily) has better, or more lively, after game socializing at the league bar. Go Kickball perhaps has more play venue / park choice options with leagues at Piedmont Park (Midtown), Central City Park (Downtown) , Cobb Park (Smyrna), Lynwood Park (Brookhaven) and ?Park (Kennesaw). If you are new to Atlanta (or any city where kickball is offered through one of the two organizations) Kickball is great way to meet new friends. Since most people have not played the game since grade school / middle school, everyone is starting out on a relatively level playing field. Soccer players definitely have an advantage from an offensive weapon standpoint.
