Glad I had the opportunity to take a yoga session at this studio. I honestly had no idea there was a yoga studio in this area. Active Sol Yoga is located in Buckhead on Bennett Street, which is right off Peachtree St. If you were familiar with Frank Ski's Restaurant & Lounge, then that's the street you turn in on to get there. Otherwise, you might easily pass the street since the street sign is a bit obscured. Once you turn onto Bennett, you drive almost all the way to the end of the street but take a left onto short street and the studio is located at the building at the top of the street. Hope that makes sense. I do like that it's away from the hustle & bustle of Peachtree Street. Upon arriving you'll see some benches on the right, a window (checking in) to the left and then an open area with cubbies to put your things in, apparel for sale and a clean restroom. They have too big, open studios with lots of natural light. Always a plus! Krishaunda lead our session. She started us with Vinyasa flow and ended our last 20 minutes with Restorative yoga. She was very nice. And I liked that she went around the class and helped to guide us into positions correctly. I was (& still am) pretty relaxed. I highly recommend this studio! I love taking their Hip Opening Vinyasa level 1 and 2 classes. This studio does well with having teachers who are focused on the students and their individual practice. The culture and ambiance is very positive, uplifting, and the instructors are awesome in reminding students to focus on themselves and not judge or compare themselves to others. Price is relatively affordable with class passes, and they also offer an amazing Groupon deal every so often. The studio is tucked away off of the main Peachtree Rd so you don't hear cars or traffic. The interior is calming, and there are white paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling of the studio which provides a nice ambiance in addition to the soft lighting which is adjusted/dimmed throughout some of the classes. Over the last two years I've had nothing but great experiences from this studio. I always leave class feeling refreshed, grateful, and full of joy. I am so glad I found this gem of a yoga studio right around the corner from me. I've been trying different studios in Midtown (Onlyoga, evolation yoga, to name a couple) and none of them really stuck with me. It's hard to find parking for both of these Midtown studios and I wasn't a big fan of the classes or studio. Finally! I found Active Sol Yoga. This place is really tucked away in the shopping center across from Fresh Market. One of the good things about this place is that your first class is free. Okay, not only do I love free classes (who doesn't?), It's awesome that you can do a free class to decide if you like the studio instead of paying $14 (their drop in rate) to only find out it's not your style. Their drop in rate is also much lower than other ITP studios which usually run from $12-$20 depending in the nature of the class. The studio is relatively small with only one room. The room could probably fit 20-30 if we were all packed tightly. Most classes have 8-12. I noticed that actually have a second room that they use as an office. I've had the pleasure of being instructed by Yochai, Caron, Debraleigh, Krishaunda, Rosalyn (the owner), and Whitney. Each and everyone of these instructors are awesome. Yochai really encourages you to get grounded in your pose. Caron is great at pushing you to your edge, then helping you breathe into a deeper pose. I love that Debraleigh offers so many modifications for students of varying levels. Both Krishaunda and Rosalyn have very soothing voices, great for a tin of practice. I also love that Rosalyn comes around and helps adjust your poses. Finally, Whitney is whimsical and wants you to have fun with your poses. So as you can see, different personalities and different teachers styles. I really couldn't say one is better than the other. Other pros -- - Offers mats and other props. If you forget your mat or towel one day, never fear! They have plenty of mats, blocks, towels, eye pillows for your use during class. - 20% discount for students and commuters. - Water, tea, and dove chocolates for a pre or post class snack. - Community class for only $7! If you don't want to commit to a class package, and find $14 too expensive for a drop in class, they offer community classes a couple times a week for only $7! - Did I need to mention the dove chocolate again?! read more

I really want to love this place. It's right by my house (and they offer a discount if you walk or take public transport to get there), the classes I've been to are pretty decent (and at convenient times), it's a great-looking space, and they have a nice selection of tea and treats. However, the times I've gone, the moments just before class have felt more like a sorority mixer rather than a yoga studio. Since I usually head to yoga right after work, I really count on those few minutes to help me transition out of busy mode. Most studios I've gone to are usually pretty placid just before class starts--people are stretching out or meditating--but at Active Sol it feels like social hour and it can get pretty loud. Now, to be fair, I think it's great that there's a nice community here and that people are excited to see their yoga buddies, but it can get distracting. One other thing I found odd is that it seems like the type of place where people can get kind of showy or competitive in their poses (for the latter case, this is complete with inappropriate-sounding moans and groans, which for real just stop). That may have been unique to the class/instructor, but in general, it felt like this studio would be better for students wanting the workout benefit over the teachings behind the practice. read more

Lisa is great. Her voice is soothing and her directions are clear and detailed. She walks around the room to give everyone a clear demonstration of the poses, and she gives adjustment tips to help with alignment so everyone gets the most out of each pose, no matter what level of yoga "proficiency." I always appreciate when modifications are given for each asana as well, because I'm usually the least flexible person in the room! And I LOVE when the instructors lend a helping hand. For example, Lisa gently pressed on my back during child's pose to help me achieve a deeper stretch, and she helped me push my shoulders down to the mat when I was lying down, which sounds easy but feels AMAZING to a person with tight pecs and rounded shoulders. (Posture, kids. Work on it so you don't turn out stiff like me, with a haunched back and text neck! Lol.) And what a pleasant studio! It's all about the details- plenty of space and natural light, the decor is airy and inviting, and warm peach tea with mini dark chocolates are always a special touch. Once you find the studio (tucked down the street from the other shops,) there's plenty of parking in front and beside the building. I came with ClassPass and although I despise downward dog (yes I said it!) I will definitely be coming back to this welcoming studio. read more

First of all, I made a Yelp account just to leave a review for this studio (so you know that can either mean it's really good or it's really bad!) Active Sol was my first yoga studio, and I chose them because of their close location to where I lived and the price (including the great student discount). Normally you get what you pay for in this world, but Active Sol is a fantastic bargain, student discount or not. The people are welcoming, whether it's the instructors or the other students. Sometimes the studio can be a bit crowded, but most of the time, it's the perfect amount of people! I didn't really know what I was getting myself into when I signed up for the studio. My favorite classes here are what I'd consider to be "power yoga". Lots of their evening classes are some variation of a Ashtanga vinyasa flow class, which I've come to discover is just awesome. Fast paced Vinyasa flow classes like the ones offered at this studio are great cardio as well as moderate strength training! Most classes are a wonderful, complete workout in so many ways. The reason I decided to leave a review now? I'm spending the summer out-of-town, and I haven't been able to find any studio that comes close to what I loved about Active Sol! I've brought friends and family with me to try the studio, and they all loved it as well. Wow. All there five-star yelp reviews are real. Active Sol Yoga is the Best. I used groupon 8-class package just to try it. Every class so far has satisfied me well. Katie is the best instructor that I've met. Her voice is so calming. She doesn't push people to their limits, instead, she encourages us to do our best. If it's not a good day, that's fine too. Also, every class is different. I get to learn new poses almost every time. It seems everybody wants to talk to her, so I never had a change to have a conversation with her... :( Did I mention that they also provide complimentary tea and chocolates? What do you do on a dreary day when you're in need of a pick-me-up? Head over to Active Sol Yoga, one of Atlanta's newest and most forward-thinking (it's Green Certified) yoga studios. I've been looking for a place to practice yoga since I moved to Atlanta last summer. Most studios seemed dedicated to an aerobics-style practice that fits neatly into in a rushed hour. I wanted something traditional, something that would make me stop and breathe. Active Sol Yoga is a beacon of tranquility among one of Atlanta's busiest highways. Step into the studio and you will be greeted by either Rosalyn or Ashlee or both, the studio's owners who hold down day jobs while pursuing their dream of operating a studio that serves the Atlanta community. (The studio seems to have such an inspiring energy that I leave there thinking, Maybe I will finish writing that book this year.) The remodeled space opens from a foyer into a sitting room where patrons can refresh themselves after class with hot teas, water and fruit. Classes usually begin promptly in a open space that's well lit by high windows. But it's soft light since classes or either in the morning (weekends) or in the evening (weekdays). Candles set the mood, as does the lingering scent of incense. Yoga mats and props are available to patrons, as is personal attention from either instructor. Both walk around throughout the room to make sure everyone is comfortable or to see if there are any questions. Their dedication to the practice and study of yoga is evident and appreciated. Surprisingly, the class moves at a nice pace (slower for the Yin-style) but there are no awkward pauses, which seem to be the hallmark of a gym yoga class. A foundation of Active Sol's studio is it's affordability. They believe yoga should be available to all, so they offer $5 classes every Monday and Wednesday at 7 pm (Regular priced classes average $10-12 depending on how you pay for them, a price that's also very affordable.) The community classes are beginner to intermediate level, but paired with a more advanced class on the weekend or Tuesday/Thursday and you will not only be supporting a great new Atlanta business, but you'll also start to see the benefits of practicing yoga. Stiff. Uptight. Inflexible. Those are some words I'd use to describe myself. I could definitely use some yoga in my life. Emme W. invited me to take a community class at Active Sol last night. Monday and Wednesday sessions usually take place in Piedmont Park, but because of the rain, the class was moved to the studio tucked into the charming antique and art area on Bennett Street. I arrived around 10 minutes prior to the 7 p.m. class, finding the parking lot and building empty. So, class commenced at least 15 minutes late. Like most professionals, I'm busy and would've preferred for the session to start on time. I still enjoyed myself and appreciated the ambiance that studio owner Rosalyn achieved. Racks are set up in the entrance's hallway for students to store their shoes. The relaxing lobby area contains seating, cubbies to store personal belongings, hot tea, water and snacks like packages of nuts. The studio room itself induces the mellowest state of calm; with large windows that let in natural sunlight, tea lights set up on each windowsill, a couple potted plants and light whiffs of incense, I felt well-removed from the stress of my workday and the tasks I had to tackle after class. While Active Sol offers different types of yoga, last night's focus was Yin Yoga, which, according to Rosalyn, is much calmer than most other practices. Poses are held longer: typically 3-5 minutes. I found the 75-minute class challenging, as my exercise routine comprises high-impact cardio and strength training, sorely lacking in the area of stretching. I particularly appreciated the blocks and towels that were provided for support. For example, Rosalyn tucked a few rolled towels under my hip during Swan Pose to help me maintain proper alignment. In addition to finding mental comfort in Rosalyn's soothing voice, I liked her approach to instruction. She encouraged us to do what was right for us on an individual level and therefore didn't call out people's names or walk around the room to adjust our positioning. Okay, one final thought. Rosalyn emphasized that while Yang Yoga stresses goal-setting and reaching the next level, Yin Yoga is more about being content with where you are. And I have to say, while lying on my mat in Child's Pose, listening to soft jangling music, I felt warm and much more relaxed than when I stepped in the door. read more

I LOVE Active Sol yoga studio. I was hesitant to try it out when a friend reported back that her instructor was rushed and aggressive, but I figured I would go and form my own opinion because your first class is free. I am so glad I did! My first class was Ashley's Ashtanga Blend Level 2 & 3 on a Monday night, and the flow and mood were just right. I especially loved that she came by with lavender essential oils during shavasana. What a perfect ending to a hectic Monday. I have since attended classes led by Anika, Flo and Whitney, and I've enjoyed every one. Easily my favorite yoga studio I've visited in Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta...well, let's just call it my favorite yoga studio. The mood is warm and inviting with candles; light incense; plenty of water, tea, and snacks; and sunlight. I'm no yoga expert; and I went with my dad, who hasn't been to a yoga class for 25 years. Sava, our instructor, made us feel totally comfortable with our ability levels. We both got a terrific workout, each at our own pace. He helped us when we were struggling with poses, but not so much that we felt embarrassed or out of our depth. I left feeling relaxed, stretched, and energized. The class size was great -- five students total -- so we got lots of personal attention and time, and the other students were friendly and helpful. Highly, highly recommend. Warning: it's a tad hard-to-find. Follow your GPS to the address, then turn left on a side street just past the power station. read more

Such a great studio! Much more affordable than the majority of other studios and conveniently located in the middle of Buckhead. The morning and lunchtime classes are typically between 2 and 5 people, the 5:45 classes typically have around 10-20 people, then the 7:00 classes are usually pretty full so get there early to get a good spot. I hear Saturday 11:30 and Sunday evening classes get pretty full too, but I have never gone to those two. All the instructors are really nice and very helpful if you need any modifications due to injuries or mobility problems. And it is nice to have a different style class each day so you don't get bored with the same routine every time. Many times they will ask at the beginning of the class if there is any part of the body the class wants to focus on and they actually take it to heart. You can influence the direction the class takes. This is NOT gentle yoga! This is yoga for people who really want to workout but still have the relaxation of yoga. The average calorie burn for these styles of yoga are 300-600 calories per hour. I am in love with this place and all the teachers and all the people that attend the classes! I went to Active Sol Yoga for the first time last night, to take advantage of their "first class is free" deal. It's on Bennett Street, and it's a little challenging to find. You have to drive until the street almost dead ends, and then turn left. Luckily, there was a little sign that said, "Yoga" with an arrow pointing me in the right direction, or I would have been very confused. There's a Cross-Fit back there too, and a bunch of people were exercising in the middle of the road, so don't hit anybody when you're driving in. I took Erin's Hatha Flow class on Tuesday night, and we focused on our knees and lower body alignment. This class really helped me notice little things about my body that I wouldn't have been aware of otherwise. The building has a lobby with free water, tea, and snacks, and the studio is well stocked with blocks, towels, belts, and these great little bags filled with lavender that you put on your eyes when you're in corpse pose. There was talk of Erin teaching a meditation/chanting class in the fall. I really hope that they do that, because it's hard to meditate when you're in a house full of distractions. Having someone guide you would make a big difference. Unlimited classes are $99 a month. Personally, I'm not in a place where I can afford to pay that, so that's the one drawback I found. I believe you can buy classes one at a time, and they also have a series option as well. read more

Let me just start by saying that I wouldn't call myself much of a yoga person.. Active Sol was on my Class Pass, and my friend wanted to go, so I said okay. I was coming off a 3 day Flywheel bender, so I was definitely into the idea of a nice and relaxing 90 minute yoga session to stretch myself out. We started out moving through various poses, and let me tell you, my body was shaking and sweating like I couldn't believe. It was definitely a challenging class, but I appreciated that very much. I left feeling very rejuvenated and strong, which turned out to be exactly what I needed. read more

I'd say we lucked out as they were not only welcoming and found yoga mats 'from the back' and made it all work, the class was awesome and the instructor was lovely and knowledgeable. Whoa, this place is tucked away and if you don't go with a friend initially it may be a bit challenging to find. First, I'm not a Yoga supastar because flexibility and I don't get along. But, Active Sol is the perfect start to helping me get on track to being flexible. It's very clean which is an absolute MUST for me. Nice hardwoods..Nice ambiance.. Nice instructors..Nice studio When you walk into the studio is very serene. Imagine oil burning with the fresh scent of sandlewood or freesia. Ahhhh...so relaxing. You leave your shoes at the door and whew the heat begins. I've NEVER sweat so much in my life and I was at the beginners class. I have so much respect for people who are great at yoga. I've been to a few classes for a month now and I thought they were just alright. I would give 5 stars to April who I finally got the experience I wanted. She would let me know if I did anything wrong with patience and she kept the class very alive, she has a great personality, and I loved her presence more than any other instructors there. She would also let you know a lot of other options on the poses and tell you what is essential in a pose, I found them all useful. I only wish she taught more classes! Alright guys, in looking at 99% of the reviews for yoga studios studios, Active Sol included, they are clearly dominated by women. Why is that you ask? Because its mostly chics doing yoga, you say back to me. True enough, but here's the $.02 worth on this place from a burly dude with a beard and tattoos: go there now. I don't know anything about yoga, and I've never been to another yoga studio, so if you're hoping I'll compare the finer points you'll be sadly disappointed. That said, I know my way around a traditional gym and a Crossfit box really well (not to mention a former life as a grunt in the Army living in hot dusty places where angry people were trying to kill me), and adding yoga a couple times a week to my gym routine has made worlds of difference in how I feel. Its humbling to get shown up by a room full of women in Lulu Lemon spandex, but check your deadlift and bench press numbers at the door and sit on down. Even though I was--and still am-- stumbling around like a moron in class, the instructors here will gently help you find the best in yourself without treating you like you've somehow interrupted their day. I notice a marked difference in how I feel back in the weight room, not to mention the different type of workout that I get from being here. It can get a little crowded, so get there a few minutes early, leave your ego with your shoes, and give it a try. read more

This is one of the best yoga studios I've been to. Ever. I usually go to popular hot yoga stuidios, but bought a living social on a whim to this place. It's hard to find. I mean really tricky. One of the previous reviews gave good directions, so follow that to a t. I must've rode past this place a couple of times before realizing-that's it. That little brick house looking place on the corner. Upon further notice, I remember seeing a tiny sign or something. The studio is beautiful. The reception area is warm and relaxing, and the bathrooms were clean and large enough to allow space to change in. The studio Is really open, and I love hardwood flooring, so that's also a plus. Flo is AMAZING. She has truly found her calling. I tried poses I had never heard of, and when I was kind of looking around like "umm this isn't in the Bikram repertoire so I don't know what the heck to do," Flo came over and showed me exactly how to get into crow. She also broke down how to do a headstand. I really like how the yogis in this place were NOT competitive whatsoever. People took breaks when needed, and were really in their own practice. It tends to be the exact opposite at the typical hot yoga studio I went to when I still lived in Atlanta. Oh, and there weren't 75 people in class with their mats all on top of you. I am a true beginner at yoga. Active Sol did not work out for me at all. I wasn't given a tour, the props were not explained to me, I wasn't told where to go or how to prepare for class. No discussion was had with me about any physical limitations. Nada. Zero. Checked me in (and that wasn't pleasant either) and then shooed me aside because another student was behind me. Tucked away on a sidestreet off of Bennett Road in South Buckhead surrounded by art galleries that I never knew existed, lies a haven of peace and tranquility. I'm not a self-proclaimed "yogi." Over the years I've dabbled here, there, and everywhere in this life-changing practice never really knowing the difference between Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Hatha styles. I still don't know the exact differences but I want to take a moment to thank the wonderful instructors at Active Sol Yoga for making my start to 2014 an amazing one. Active Sol, a certified "green" yoga studio, makes the practice accessible for everyone. From their $7 community classes to their $30 "all-you-can-practice-for-10-days" offer, they embrace the notion that yoga doesn't need a fancy price tag to be worth it. To prove it, your first class is free, emphasizing the importance of "getting a feel" for the studio rather than committing unknowingly. From the minute I walked in the door, everyone made me feel welcome and at home. Hot tea, cool water, a dark chocolate or 2 and cozy environs with the faint scent of incense make for a great practicing space. The instructors are incredibly well-trained and excellent teachers, encouraging you to go beyond what you think is possible but never demanding or condescending. Guided meditations, pearls of wisdom, extended savasanas (resting, "corpse" pose), and flexible class timings put the icing on the cake at this yoga studio. No two classes are the same, making each session a personal adventure with different results every time. The experience of the class members varies greatly from the occasional "first timer" to seasoned yogis who are practicing their inversion poses before class just for the fun of it. I'm amazed at how much stronger I've become after practicing routinely for 4 weeks...and can only imagine what I will feel like at 4 months. Love this studio! The space is clean, simple and beautiful (lots of potted plants and gorgeous dark wood floors) and there are plenty of class options to choose from. I've taken classes from Rosalyn, Debraleigh, Yochai and a few others, and they all make their classes enjoyable and accessible. I'd also recommend taking the workshops offered at this studio. I finally found a yoga studio and instructor that I love! I go to Anika's classes on Sunday mornings. I started out with the beginner Vinyasa Flow at 10:00 and now go to the Community Yoga at 11:30 (which is always only $7!). Anika is a great instructor. She talks just enough to explain each position, but doesn't gab on on and on like some instructors do. She teaches in a very calm manner and her poses during these 2 classes are great for someone like me who is now past beginner level, but certainly not advanced. The studio itself is very nice--one simple main room with a waiting/prep. area outside that has a water cooler and free chocolates! I found Activ Sol through a Living Social deal, but I continue to go because they have affordable rates. Teachers, students, and "green" commuters get a discount. Active Sol is a yoga studio dedicated to both avid yogis or those who just want to take some time out of their day to bend and breathe in a yoga way! The instructors teach from their hearts with generosity and care to each student while taking you through each yoga pose with a mindful dedication to said pose, and yet approaching some of the more quirky poses with a lighthearted fun attitude. Never too serious nor flippant the perfect balance of yoga comes through wih each practice. When I first began going I could not even bend over and touch my toes. Now I'm evolving and enjoying some of the more intermediate poses (I can also now touch my nose to my knee... So I have improved some!) and I have also been enjoying the delights of wellness from attending on a steady basis. While some of the students appear to have gotten to know one another I've never felt that there was a sorority vibe from the studio or from the students as another post mentioned. And for the price you cannot find a better place in Atlanta! I highly recommend Active Sol and hope you find enjoyment there as I have either from a more advanced Ashtanga class or thoughtful Restorative class. read more
