Very very very disappointed! We used to love this restaurant. Was our go to Chinese restaurant. But the food tonight was terrible. The beef with broccoli literally tasted like nothing. The general tsos was mushy. The fried rice wasn't even fried rice. Very upset. Cost $40, for what?! Garbage. And what is this white stuff that was ontop of the beef with broccoli/rice? Not onion or chicken......very scary

When the husband and I didn't want to cook at home after a long day of errands, we stopped at the Great Wall. We were greeted and seated immediately when we walked in. The restaurant is small with booths and tables. The menu has the typical offerings. I chose Sesame chicken combo that includes egg roll and rice, but for an extra $1, I was able to get lo mein instead of rice. Szechwan shrimp was husband's pick. The food and service were fine.

We got a variety of foods to go and every single one of them was very sub par compared to what I am used to from other places.

My husband chose the American Wagyu and we has a taste comparison. I liked the Japanese flavor and texture better, it was melt in your mouth buttery. That's due to the intense marbling of fat in the meat. My husband actually preferred the American Wagyu flavor, saying it tasted "meatier". No matter which you choose, they both were delicious and came with a side of German potato salad and Mexican street corn salad and watermelon with a dollop of whipped feta cheese. We started the meal with the Crab Salad appetizer. perfect for 2 people. A tasty mix of crabmeat on top of a crispy tostada. We ended the meal with a peach creme brûlée. Just enough food to make us both feel sated but not overstuffed. I also tried the Peach Iced Tea which was white tea with dried peaches and apricots. Very refreshing! They have a whole menu of Iced Teas to choose from for the summer months. The restaurant was packed as usual. You need a reservation for sure. The husband and wife team is amazing at both crafting unique, delicious foods and creating a welcoming space in which to enjoy it. Truly this pace is the best of Latrobe.

We were greeted by the owners and stayed off with many appetizers. I can't decide what my favorite was but the tuna is exceptional. The bone marrow was a big hit as were the oysters. Any item on the menu would be a good choice (trust me we tried a lot). A must is the bread bowl with a smoked butter that is out of this world. Soup and salad was next. The mushroom bisque was a sight to see with table side pour over. All of our entrees were made with perfection and photo worthy. And after all that you will want to skip dessert but don't. So very good. This is a BYOB place.

Enjoy their buffet on Saturday nights, book your special event, or catch an event there. They have a bar and homemade sangria too! As far as I can tell, they run a normal menu Wednesday through Friday, then offer a special buffet on Saturdays. We checked out the Saturday buffet, and the overall experience was amazing. It's important to make reservations ahead of time, but when you do show up, they present a light brothy soup and a basket of bread almost immediately. At that point, the buffet is filled with a range of different hand crafted items. My partner loves Hungarian food, and I was a little nervous about the availability of vegetarian options for me. That turned out not to be an issue. They had a whole section of vegetarian options along with a salad bar. The whole experience was phenomenal, with a low key live accordion performance in the background. Highly recommended.

My update isn't as much about the food, but the level of customer service. I regularly volunteer at…read morethe farmer's market, so I see many of the same people on a weekly basis. Like life, you encounter people of every description and quality. I posted my first review about this vendor at the market last year. During this new season, I was stopped as I was going past by the same woman I had encountered during my 1st visit. If you'd think her attitude had changed, I can assure you that it had not. She immediately attacked me about the review I had left. At no time did she offer to make anything right. Once again, she bragged about how great her products are and that she sells thousands. In addition, she made a concerted effort to make me feel guilty about my review. She asked how I felt about leaving a poor review of a family business. Well, I can assure you that I feel just fine. I believe my reviews are honest and assess my opinions of the products and level of service. She yelled at me that I should have brought the jars back. At that point, I didn't remember if I did or didn't return the bad product. I stated that I thought I had, but she yelled at me that I never returned them. At no time did she ask me any questions or offer any solutions. I was in the business of customer service for many years. I have never fixed the blame. I always strived to fix the problem. She may well do very well at her stand, but there is always room for improvement. From her attitude, everything is perfect in her own world and pleasing customers is the furthest thing from her mind. I have never once seen her stand jammed with an overabundance of customers, as I have seen at many other stands. I don't see it as a product issue, since there are people willing to pay a price for small jars of relishes and jams. I see this as an attitude issue. The woman is not friendly and I don't get a good feeling dealing with her. I don't believe that being combative solves any issues.

Although I have not been at their physical storefront location I've met with "the pickled chef" on…read morea number of occasions during my recent farmer's markets visit. I had purchased three of their popular items, apple bourbon maple jam, raw fermented ginger beet kraut, and pickled red beets. These items have been outstanding. The jam as described has real apple chunks in it and when spread on bread it tastes like an apple pie. Made with quality ingredients including the maple syrup from Paul's family farm it is worth the investment. The kraut is red pink due to the beets but you can taste the pickle in it. It makes a great side dish and will keep in the fridge for some time. My understanding is that it is one of their more popular items. With the markets winding down for the season you can still shop for their products on their website or you can purchase their products at East End food coop or Shenot's farm and market in Wexford. It is my hope to visit their Latrobe brick and mortal location when I'm in the area to stock up on more of their "farm to jar" as they call it products. Even if you are looking for pickles you won't be disappointed.
