I've done takeout from Great Wall a couple times a month for a year or so, yet not left a review. I call ahead and more times than not, it is ready when promised and I pay cash. I have tried and enjoyed hot & sour soup, general tso's and the sweet and sour chicken. The last was enough for 3 meals. A current favorite is chicken with orange flavor which is enough for 2 meals. Have not tried the luncheon specials. Also haven't been brave enough to try any dish they list under "staple food" on their menu. read more

When you order online, and set a time for pickup, your order is not fulfilled until you come in and pay. There's no option to pay online. So you wait for your order as if you walked in and placed an order. Then you wait 15 minutes. The chicken chow mein is NOT chicken chow mein. It's a bunch of greasy cabbage or steamed, greasy cabbage, with chicken. The won ton soup is good. It was my first time ordering from them and the last time. DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE! We went there for 6 months at least once a month and the food was average but not many great Chinese places in the area. We got food there last night and as I was eating the pad Thai I tasted something spoiled. So immediately stopped eating. Didn't even try the boneless ribs given half were burnt and shriveled. Later that night my husband and I were throwing up and continued to get sick all night. I called today thinking the owner would refund the $40'we spent especially since we are frequent customers. She got very aggressive and said we would need to talk to their insurance company...provide proof we were throwing up and that she didn't believe me. They have gone down hill a bit since the pandemic, but they still rock! They have great Rangoon (sweet, not savory) and their Sweet & Sour sauce is thick and wonderful too. The Sweat & Sour chicken is where I've been a little disappointed over the last year. Smaller pieces, over cooked a bit, but that could be older oil too. I've had this place a few times and I really enjoy it! Sesame chicken has perfect sized pieces and the sauce has great flavor. Sweet and sour chicken is just the same and the portion sizes are very generous. The wonton soup may be one of my favorites in town. So this review is only for there soups. I've done the egg drop, the chicken and rice and chicken noodle. The egg drop is a typical egg drop. Wasnt bad. Wasnt the best. I like to order my egg drop with extra egg but they do not offer extra egg because it's pre-made. I do like that it's close so I will still order when I'm in the mood because it's not bad. The chicken and rice. The chicken was very tender and fairly nicely size portion. The rice was good. The base was a bit water down. I'd prefer more of a chicken ( heavy like the egg drop ) base. But it is okay if ur looking for a mellow flavor but nice portion of rice and chicken. The chicken noodle was more like the base again of chicken and rice. Water down. The noodles I deff did not care for they are the noodle from chowmain. They were hard and not tender. But the chicken was the same from the chicken and rice. I would not order that again for my taste buds had no real flavor. The chicken and rice can work if I mix the egg drop base to it. They chicken and rice and the chicken and noodle are only offered at a large size. So overall the egg drop wins but doesn't win my heart. read more

I was fairly disappointed with my pick-up order. The positives: it was ready quite quickly. The negatives: the vegetable lo mein was extra greasy, and the sweet and sour chicken was only the chicken plus sauce on the side-- I was surprised as usually that dish comes at least with some peppers and onions mixed in. Altogether underwhelming and rather unappetizing, and the food lukewarm even as it was being handed to me. It was also certainly overpriced for that experience. This place sucks. I tried to place an order yesterday afternoon and couldn't get anyone to wait on me. The staff appeared to be overwhelmed and things looked chaotic. Several guests and drivers also waiting, frustrated. So, upon arriving to my hotel (after todays work) I tried them thru Uber eats, hoping that yesterday's chaos was due to the high demand for their delicious food? To start, I'll preface this by saying that my favorite Chinese restaurants in the Gahanna/New Albany area are Joy Food One and Asian Gourmet, both off Morse and Hamilton. That being said, Great Wall is definitely my favorite out of the big three in New Albany, which would be Lucky Yee, Asian Taste, and of course Great Wall. Great Wall has jumped into my upper echelon with Joy Food and Asian Gourmet, and I will tell you why. First off, Great Wall is FAST....I'm talking Sonic the Hedgehog fast. You call and put an order in? You'll usually get the response "10 Minutes!" This was the exact response that I heard today...I was hungry and had to be at work in about 35 minutes, so I called and ordered vegetable pad thai..."10 Minutes!" I got there probably about 8 minutes after and my food was ready. Second, and this obviously won't apply to everyone, but location. I can drive to Great Wall and back from our apartment and only be gone for 15 minutes. Third is quality. My wife and I have ordered numerous dishes from here, and everything has been great with no disappointments, though my favorites are orange shrimp and garlic chicken. Everything always seems piping hot and extremely fresh. Our typical order is a PuPu platter, house lo mein, and then each of our choice entrees. This leads into the fourth thing...quantity. You get a ton of food! And I can't mention quantity without that going hand in hand with value...the amount of food you get for what you pay is fantastic. Now, the only knock I can toss at this place...they don't deliver. If I lived further away this might be a bigger deal to me, but I can drive over and pick our food up in 5-10 minutes no problem so it's not that big of an issue. I've actually been leaning more on Great Wall for Chinese since Joy Food no longer seems to deliver this far out...can't blame them really, it's over 5 miles. Long story short, give Great Wall a try, and I'm guessing you'll come to the same conclusion that I did...there is no better Chinese in New Albany. read more

This happened to me recently when I moved into my new place and spent all day unpacking boxes. By the end of the day, I just wanted some wontons and some noodles. I checked YELP and saw that this place was around the corner, so I called and placed the order. I was able to drive over and pick it up about 15 minutes later and everyone in there seemed to know the owner by name... so that was a good sign. The service is amazing and our food came out promptly and hot. There seemed to be a TON of online orders and I was surprised with how steadily the food was prepared and out the door. Great for take-out in the New Albany area, the prices are more reasonable compared to some of the other Chinese take-out spots in the vicinity and the people who work there are very nice, we've never once had a problem with them. The wait is typically only 10-15 minutes which is great when you're starving. Everything tastes like it should in regards to Americanized Chinese take-out. Love their combo meals, a big pro is that they don't skimp you on meat in the slightest. They also have some of the best crab rangoons that I've tasted. Only reason the place doesn't get five stars is that it's not the best for sitting in to eat, the atmosphere definitely leaves something to be desired. read more

My family and I go to Great Wall all the time. It's your average cheap Chinese takeout place with the standard menu. The owner (I think she is) Lin (sp?) is there all the time and she's super friendly! She even recognizes our phone number when we call! Just like with every restaurant, we have occasionally gotten a less than amazing meal, but I would say that this place is consistently wonderful. In fact the only reason I didn't give this place five stars is because the atmosphere isn't great. Just a few tables in a sparsely decorated space in front of a counter. I live near Easton but whenever I'm in the area of New Albany I stop by the Great Wall. It's really good, fast food Chinese. The portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. I typically get the sweet and sour chicken with steamed rice. I've had the pork egg roll a couple of times and did not really care for it. The Egg Drop soup is pretty good. read more
