I started doing my reviews in this order: The Appeal The Bad (?) The Good I consider myself some what of a seafood boil "snob" being that I lived in Las Vegas around some of the best restaurants in the world and have had seafood all over the country. There isn't any seafood in the small town I live in so every time I go out of town for work I stop to get seafood. The appeal of the Storming Crab: this place is located just down from the Fayette Mall which use to be a booming shopping center. The restaurant has a HUGE Fiberglass Crab on the outside of the building and hip graffiti painting outside. Inside the restaurant reminds you of being on a ship if it was autographed by everyone you know. The host was nice and so was my server who was super sweet. The Bad (?): I had been here a few times before and remember being disappointed because of the butter reminded me of the jug of melted popcorn butter instead of real melted butter. - However this time it didn't taste that way so I'm not sure if they changed it but it really won me back as a customer. The Good: Something I did find today that I have never found before is their seafood bread! I don't know what kind of witchcraft it is but it is one of the best things I've had. Think cheddar bay biscuits x100! Overall the Storming Crab is a solid choice. As someone who is a seafood person, if you get a boil, and know how to peel seafood, get the head ON shrimp vs. the head off- it should be fresher and more meat. read more

The environment was neat and our server was really friendly and helpful. The restroom needed to be cleaned and there were at least 4 employees standing around talking/on their phones during our visit. We received complimentary seafood bread and it was really tasty. Our food was served quickly and hot. We ordered the fried catfish po'boy, fried gator po'boy, and a seafood boil (snow crab legs, lobster tail, corn, potatoes, crab house cajun, mild). The seafood boil was flavorful, the fried catfish was ok, the gator was good but not enough to fill the bread, and the hushpuppies were really good. I recommend this restaurant if you like seafood. read more

Our service was good. Drinks kept refilled. We fed 4 (2 adults & 2 kids) people with the #6 and added an extra pound of crab legs. It was the perfect amount of food. Lunch on a busy hot day. We were promptly welcomed at the door and seated. Our server introduced himself and took our drink orders. We were brought drinks and some complimentary seafood bread. Our orders taken and we waited with anticipation. My mother's order of fried oysters came out first. She was almost finished her food when my crab boil was served. The worst part, she was still hungry. She ordered an order of seafood bread. The food was good. The issue is poor kitchen management. There weren't many people in the restaurant so I feel they could have timed the cooks, so we could eat together. read more

Fantastic experience! We came to check this place out after many months of having a terrible experience at a similar concept closer to Hamburg (shaking crab) This gator bites here were sooooo good. They were soft and buttery and the honey mustard complimented it perfectly. Our boil was perfect. We shared a bag, I think it was meal option A, we had the Dungeness crab, clams, shrimp, no sausage and opted for extra potatoes and corn of course. We both had a cocktail, which were 20% off from that time (8pm) until close I believe. The drinks were great. I would like to note that i couldn't finish mine without feeling the spirits lol. This place is great, the decor is so in tune with a nautical them which I always love. I had Sweet tea and an appetizer of boudin balls. stared off with the Fried Basket of Gator Meat and fresh raw oysters. My wife had the Cajun Whole Lobster (Combo 3) consisting of Crawfish, clams, sausage with red potatoes and buttered corn on the cob. They also offered Chicken Wings in Cajun and BBQ options. The Cajun Fried Rice is a excellent side along with Boudin Balls. For dessert you have to try the Tiramisu, it is out of this world . The service was attentive and quick. Cool place. I wished I like Cajun food more. I use to always ordered a "blackened Cajun steak" at my old favorite restaurant CR Thomas in Ironton but that wasn't really Cajun. I really thought I'd end up loving this place. . But that wasn't the case. We wanted to try a seafood boil after seeing them all over the internet, we found the storming crab near us (1 1/2 hr drive but closer than other places) and decided to take a trip to try! We arrived around 1, we had our order taken within a few mins of being seated, we had to wait an hour and half for our order, we ordered the #4 combo to share. The crab legs were hidden at the bottom, extremely tiny! By the time we got half way through, the food was cold at the bottom. The crab meat was pretty much non existent when cracked. We got the garlic butter old bay - mild blend. It wasn't my favorite choice. Upon paying, the bartender continued to ask if we wanted our change back and when giving it back, she continued to ask if we wanted to leave something. . We left our tip at the table for our waiter. While we were waiting for the check, the same bar tender came to the table next to us and said she was checking on the table for their server and asked if they were ready to leave... they hadn't even got their food yet! The corn was the best part of the meal. We won't be back. read more

Calamari was thick and tuff. I think the coleslaw was ruined it tasted so bad. We ordered shrimp in place of the calamari and there was really no taste. This was the first time eating there so I'm not sure I want to return. That was $50 down the drain read more

Went here for the first time yesterday and won't be back. I was really excited to try this place as I love seafood, but $80 for three people and we all left hungry still. It could definitely be my expectations were set high but it seemed like all the meat has previous been cooked, frozen, and then heated up. The meat tasted this way and the sauce for the seafood was basically dipping sauce. It wasn't worth the price or the work to peel open the meat and eat it. read more

As a party of 5, we ordered the Family Combo which was a pound each of King Crab, Snow Crab, Green Mussels, Shrimp, Lobster Tails, and sausage accompanied by 6 ea. of potatoes and half ears of corn. Everything was absolutely delicious and quite fresh to be in a landlocked area. Our server, Clifford was amazing and funny and checked on us often. Starters were 1 dozen raw oysters, gumbo, chicken tenders, and onion rings. Everything we ordered was scrumptious! Atmosphere is casual and even with covid distancing, has a festive vibe. I ordered the fried gator basket with fries and baked mussels. I am the type of person if it looks weird I will not eat it. Needless to say I tried one bite of the mussels and it wasn't for me. Ambience: walking in here is like walking into a fisherman's net! Fun looking, a lot of space! If you can find a spot, write a cute little message or sign your names on the walls, poles, ceilings, basically anywhere! Service: Never had a problem with service, attentive! Taste: So glad to see some good Cajun seafood in Lex! I usually always get the house sauce which is a mix of everything. Super buttery, garlicky, Cajun goodness! Reason for my one star deduction is the crawfish tastes horrible, I would not recommend. I've gotten it twice just to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke, but it's been pretty bad. Frozen and thawed for sure. Snow crab, shrimp and sausage is the way to go! Never disappoints. Also, the oyster just had a really off taste, small, not exactly what oyster eaters are expecting, but cute presentation! Overall Experience: I've really enjoyed eating here, we never had to wait.
