Really poor customer service I came in to get 2 lunches and since i got there she was giving me attitude and when i told her i wanted 2 separate orders she just put them in two different plates with these servings. When i opened the plate and asked her don't you think its a little bit? I was craving some Chinese food since I'm pregnant and I wanted to switch up different spots , well my boyfriend and I went to Great Wall express , oh my gosh let me tell you that the food did not look good at all and my boyfriend wanted to buy fried shrimp but I guess you have to order them in big set of orders for them to even cook fired shrimp. The chow mein noddles looked like rubber nasty cheap noddles , i have five kids and none of them wasn't to happy to eat dinner . I will definitely not come here again and I will definitely not recommend this spot! So nasty!!!!!! Worst Chinese food ever in my life!!!!! But I wanted to write this review because of this: if you get a two item combo, steamed rice counts as an item Let be repeat that: a two item combo does not include rice. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. Them: what is this your first time here? Me: it sure is... and my last. Anyway I got the jalapeno chicken and the bbq rib. The bone to meat ratio for both was basically 3:1. The chicken was dusted with what I can only describe as "MSG sugar." One of the pieces was a chicken neck. Pork was slightly better. Two stars for being open and clean, covid wise. Oh did I mention that steamed rice doesn't come with your combo? Btw the difference between a two item combo and a three item combo is about two bucks. The food here is great and never fails to satisfy my cravings. I came here for years because the staff was extremely generous with their portions. They would need to wrap rubber bands around the trays so they can close. But lately one of the elderly women who wears bright red lipstick is not as generous with the portions given. This is a top-secret establishment and many don't know the name. The food looks weird but it's actually pretty good.

The other Great Wall restaurants at Downtown, Rosecrans, and El Cajon have great quality and quantity of food. So I thought the Great Wall at 43rd St wouldn't be bad. I was wrong. There is one reason why I will never go back there. I ordered the popular special (2 items, lo main or rice, and a drink). This place does not have diet soda. I'm diabetic. When I asked for water instead, they offered bottled water at an extra charge. Said no to this and asked for tap water. SERVER SAID THIS ADDS AN EXTRA DOLLAR TO THE PRICE. I explained I didn't want any soda, only the tap water. The server understood and said that the owner charges extra because a cup is used for the tap water. I SAID ITS THE SAME CUP YOU WOULD PUT THE SODA IN! "Sorry, owner says we must charge." I refused the food and walked out hotter than a match head. I recommend any Great Wall except this one on 43rd St. read more

This Chinese place is gross. I don't know how they have such good reviews, but they sure are deceiving. Ate here a few months back and the food was disgusting. The orange chicken was hard, and full of fat. The bbq pork was very fatty as well, and the teriyaki chicken was just regular chicken slathered in teriyaki sauce. Will never return. read more

I have passed by here thousands of times but never ever gave it much thought. Finally stopped by late one Sunday night after cruising Highland and I was surprised they were still open because they had absolutely no lights on outside in the parking lot. Just the lights on inside the store with few customers ordering food. The only lights visibly ON was the Open sign and the florescent lights bulbs inside the store as well as the lights on the name of the business. It sort of reminded of ghetto spots in City Heights area on El Cajon Blvd or even the ghettos of Los Angeles. I am glad I finally gave them a try because I liked the food and it was quick and easy to get in and out. Plus the food is sitting in front of you so you pick whichever food looks pleasing. I had asked a friend of mine who worked nearby if they served good food. He wasn't a Yelper but let me know what he thought since he only stopped by ever so often. It is with a heavy heart that I have to stop eating here due to the multiple times I have received extremely poor customer service. My family and I have come here for YEARS. My mother cried after the manager from this store charged refused to package one of our sides in a small box (which they usually do when the box overfills). Instead, we were charged for a whole meal for a small takeout box in which she angrily put rice, noodles, and orange chicken. Needless to say it was barely enough to feed my four year old. I don't understand her reasoning at all, nor do I understand why my mom was insulted for not speaking perfect English. Our last straw was having burnt chow mein and undercooked chicken. I hate to disagree with previous reviews, but upon visiting this place I was so disappointed. My bf grew up eating there and said it "used to" be good but that in recent years it had turned "nasty". Despite this, I tried it anyway. I live very close so I walked there with my son. I ordered kung pao chicken and fried rice. My rice was full of onions and tasted like I was eating an onion. It was awful. My toddler son, who loves rice, wouldn't even eat it. The chicken was full of vegetables and some unrecognizable other ingredients. I also ordered orange chicken which I couldn't chew. I'm glad others love it so much. This place is packed every single day at lunchtime. But I can't say I will be returning. read more
