    67. House Sauce Noodles (this is what we took home after each eating to our fill!)
    Jyothi C.

Incredibly flavorful dishes served in large family style portions. The service was quick and efficient, bringing out dishes fairly soon after ordering. The space is casual and comfortable. Every single dish was bursting with flavorful but the tasty dry pot with prawns was the standout winner - will definitely be back to get it again! Parking can be tough in the adjacent lot - it's a busy strip so be prepared to spend time securing a spot if you have reservations.

Tasty Noodle House always hits the spot when we're craving Chinese food! It was pretty busy when we came, but luckily we got seated after about a 10-minute wait. Chow Mein 100/10: We usually order 2 servings because it's THAT good. The portion sizes are huge, and it's always the dish we recommend to anyone we bring here. Garlic String Beans 10/10: Sometimes it can be lacking flavor, but this time it was perfectly garlicky and savory. Definitely a must-order. Pork Chops 10/10: Super flavorful and pairs so well with either rice or noodles. The staff is always kind, service is quick, and overall this place is definitely on my list for good Chinese food!

Firstly the parking is non existent and people are rude so be prepared to deal with that. But once you overcome that the rest is smooth sailing. Had lunch here even with all the other options in the small area and I'm glad I did. The inside was nice and clean, was approached by server very fast. My first time and server offering some suggestions. Had cucumber and fish. The cucumber was nice, crisp, crunchy with just the right amount of heat and the fish was soft and flavorful. Needless to say there was no left overs. The only drawback was the satay tasted old.

Tried this for the first time during a weekday lunch hour and it did not disappoint. Our group ordered a few items from the expansive menu and it was impressive how quickly everything came out! A couple of my favorites from our order list were the Xiao Long Bao & Beef + Scallion w/ Black Pepper Sauce - both were so flavorful. The serving sizes and prices were very reasonable. Parking is in a shared lot on Convoy that can be a bit crowded so I'd plan ahead for that. Otherwise, I enjoyed it here and would come back!

Stopped for dinner after running errands before heading home for the evening and saw this place had no line or wait. Usually Tasty Noodle house is always packed. We were warned that last call was about 45 min from when we were seated which was not an issue. The menu was extensive and had every option we could want to try. We ordered the wonton soup, beef noodles and long bao. All of the food came out very quick, very hot, and very delicious! It was the perfect meal for a cold night! The dumplings were filled with a delicious filling, and the wontons and soup complimented each other well. The noodles perfectly balanced in sauce and had a fresh bite of the cucumbers. The xiao long bao are a must get! Broth was flavorful and th fillings seasoned perfectly.

We came for dinner on Christmas Day around 5 pm and it was super packed but we only waited about 15 mins to be seated. Our party of 4 ordered the following: -Shanghai grilled pork buns (4/5): nicely crispy on the bottom and juicy on the inside, good amount of meat and big in size -Shanghai style chow mein w/ pork & veg (4.5/5): tasty and great flavor, thick and chewy noodles -Combination fried rice with beef, chicken and shrimp (3/5): too flavorless and bland, no wok hei flavor -Ginger scallion beef (5/5): super delicious and tender, good amount of sauce and flavor, onions were a nice addition Overall, the prices were decent and portions were big so we had leftovers. We were told the food would take about 30 mins to come out since they were busy but they all came out in 5-10 mins. However, 2 of the dishes came out kinda cold so that was kinda disappointing. It was kinda hard to flag down a waiter since they were so busy but they were efficient and friendly. I would come back again!

This place is hands down THE BEST. We got fried rice, orange chicken, and some beef chow mein! Plan on bringing to go plates, portions are HUGE. Fantastic taste highly recommend for a family outing or date :) staff very kind and friendly and place is lovely.

    Shanghai Grilled Pork Buns ($14.50)

Came for a Christmas dinner around 5PM and it was really packed, but our party of 4 only ended up waiting about 15 minutes to be seated after joining the waitlist on site. This was my second time here after the first time a few years ago! Food: Shanghai Chow Mein w/ Veg & Pork- Thick noodles (4.5/5): good flavor and chewy noodles, but pretty oily like most Chinese food Combination Fried Rice (3/5): tasted flavorless and too plain. I think I enjoyed the beef fried rice more from my first visit Ginger Scallion Beef (4.5/5): very tender, saucy and flavorful! The onions were a nice addition Shanghai Grilled Pork Bun (4/5): I liked the crispy bottom and there was plenty of meat and filling inside, but I expected them to be more juicy We were told the food would take 30 minutes since they were so busy, but it was only actually about a 5-10 min wait. However, 2 of the dishes came out kinda cold which was disappointing. Prices are decent and the portions are big so we had leftovers. Service was kinda slow as they were busy, but friendly. Interior is clean but pretty cramped. I wouldn't mind coming back when I'm craving Shanghainese food!

We came back again for another go! Had the eggplant and shredded pork, ginger beef and green onion, pork and chive dumplings and seafood chow mein with black pepper sauce. All was soo good, we especially devoured the eggplant and chow mein. Actually most of our dishes our amazing server recommended as we couldn't decide what to order. Super fantastic, we literally got one dish right after we ordered and everything came out hot and fresh. Love this place!

I visited this location on a weekend for an early dinner. I can see why this is such a commonly mentioned spot among people who went to school here - it screams affordable chinese comfort food that's also very take out friendly. The menu is pretty simple and everything you can expect a place named tasty noodle house to have. For a group of 3, we got spicy cucumber salad, pan fried dumplings/bao, ginger scallion beef with noodle, and salt and pepper pork chop. Cucumber salad tastes as it should and was fresh, crunchy as it should. I did appreciate the numbing spice the cucumbers were marinated in. Pan fried bao was good, juicy inside but would prefer a crunchier exterior, or at least the base. Scallion beef with noodle was ok, more similar to jajangmian. Salt and pepper pork chop was not what I expected it to be, but was indeed fried pork chop strips with salt and pepper. I was expected the larger slabs of pork chop, fried golden brown iykyk. Parking was a little challenging, and I can definitely see possibility of NO parking spots available if we had come a bit later. Overall, wouldn't go out of my way to try this, or wait around for parking. I think this is like a craving chinese food but do't have time and will get order ahead to pick up take out situation.

    Morgan W.

Great place to go and try something out of your comfort zone. I came here with a group of gals during the workday. I really enjoyed the many dishes we all had. It is family style so if you're coming solo, 1-2 dishes will fill you up. We ordered fried rice, a variety of dumplings, and copious amounts of pork items. I recommend coming during off peak hours as parking can get scarce during rush hours. Service was great, very nice and pretty fast for the amount of food we ordered.

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has been on my Yelp Want To Go list ever since my brother and SIL told me…read morethat they really enjoyed a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas and were told that a similar restaurant existed in San Diego. After their experience in Vegas, they tried Shan Xi themselves and glowingly talked about the delish food there. Today, 3/4s of my fam ate here and we definitely concurred with my brother and SIL's favorable assessment. 4.5 stars because their grub was amazing, but it could be more customer friendly where one of the staff checks to see if we need help ordering instead of ordering from the QR code menu. Shan Xi Magic Kitchen is located in the ultra competitive Convoy Asian District specifically on Convoy Street within the Convoy Village shopping center. The restaurant is next to our fave Asian drink place called Yun Tea, it's next to Olleh KBBQ, next door to Szechuan Chef, and a short walk to BB.Q Chicken. This is a popular strip mall, so it could be challenging for you to find parking. Parking is free for 90 minutes, but you'll have to pay after that time ends. Shan Xi is nice inside with gray brick on their walls, decorative lighting surrounded by rattan, Chinese dolls on a shelf, Chinese inspired figurine art on another wall, and a beautiful curio/screen containing Chinese knick knacks. Seating consists of tables/chairs and a long leather bench. Our servers were friendly, but to me having to order from a QR code is impersonal. I'd rather talk to a person, so that I can ask what they recommend. Plus, if diners aren't familiar with this type of cuisine, I'm sure they would have a bunch of questions. From Shan Xi Magic Kitchen's website, "Bringing the bold flavors of Northwest China to San Diego, Shan'xi Magic Kitchen serves authentic regional specialties. Our restaurants specialize in hand-pulled noodles, savory bread-based dishes, and traditional Chinese comfort food prepared with time-honored techniques." After being told that Shan Xi was similar to their positive dining experience at a different Chinese restaurant in Vegas, my brother and SIL tried Shan Xi and they were impressed by what they ate here and told us that we needed to eat here ourselves. Since my wife and I were off midweek, we invited our son to join us for lunch. We ordered the following dishes and feel free to mimick what we ordered: spicy cumin lamb burger, hand pulled noodle with cumin beef, beef magic fried rice, dry fried green beans, and a side of white rice. My brother and SIL love the lamb burger as a appetizer and we really thought it was tasty too. If you're not a spicy fan, this might not be for you, but the lamb was tender. The pita bread needed to be softer. Their hand pulled noodle with cumin beef was stellar, chewy, and delectable. Loved their beef magic fried rice and it ate really well by itself. The fried green beans were addicting, garlicky, and just yummy. I'm a fan Shan Ci and can't wait to try their other entrees. My brother and SIL were spot on with their positive reviews about Shan Xi Magic Kitchen. It was a blessing to have a spontaneous meet up with 3/4s of my fam and grub on some memorable Chinese food.

At first, she said the order only could be done on 1 bill. And then later she compromised with 2 bills, 5 people per table. That was nice of her! I just had 2 coffees before entering so I decided to skip ordering Thai tea. But they had a large drink menu, of fruit teas and more. My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. My friends ordered-- - $12.99, Dirty Fried Chicken: This had a blitz coating of lime, mint, and spices. And it was decorated with thinly sliced green onions with a side of sweet chili sauce. The chicken was hot and plump, not dry, and very much mouthwatering! Would recommend. - $14.99, Thai Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled Chicken Breast on a bed of mixed green salad, carrots, and cucumbers with peanut dressing. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. It was very creamy and when you dip into the plum sauce it's a delectable bite. A nice appetizer to share with the table. - $16.99-$19.99 (depends on what protein you get), Pad Thai: This proportion was manageable for one person. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice.
