Food: I came here at lunch time and ordered the fried rice deluxe and honey walnut shrimp. The fried rice tasted really good, however, when I received the honey walnut shrimp, the walnuts were burnt so bad. They were really bitter! I told the waitress that the walnuts were burnt and she took the whole dish to the back. She returned with the same dish (walnuts still burnt) with the manager. The manager (short Chinese guy with glasses) explained that the walnuts has honey in them and that's how it's suppose to be. I couldn't believe that the manager had the audacity to come to my table and defend this dish with burnt walnuts! He said he was going to replace the walnuts, however, I did want to leave the dish on my table instead of bringing it to the back. About five minutes later, the waitress came back with a small bowl of again, BURNT WALNUTS! WTH is wrong with this people?!? Please see uploaded pictures. The manager came back again and said how's the walnuts? I told him its still the same. He again said (sarcastically), that's how its suppose to be and then he left. I know how this dish is suppose to be prepared because I've eaten this dish numerous times and have cooked it myself at home a dozen times. The manager could've handled this situation a lot better. I figured he lacked any professionalism and I just had to let it go. The Verdict: Retrain the manager AND the cook. In the meantime, I'll be staying clear of this restaurant. read more

I ordered food for the first time from the Great Wall. I had been hearing that the food is great and the atmosphere is very appetizing. I did not eat in, I ordered food to go, it wasn't the best. Have to say I really enjoyed the Great Wall. The food was very tasty. I really enjoyed the wor wonton soup & Kung pao Beef. Our server was very friendly & they seemed to have a lot of regulars that frequent the establishment. ( I'm sure I will become one of the regulars) only complaints are I wish the service was a little quicker & the food temp was a bit hotter. EPIC Fail. I had been wanting to try this place for over a year now, because of all of the super great reviews and friends telling me that they have good food. I have now come to the realization that all of these people are either delusional, or they have never eaten Chinese food at anywhere else other than Panda Express. News flash, A-holes: Panda isn't authentic Chinese, and either is this dump. We walked in starving, got seated within a few minutes. No biggie. The place looks like its trapped in the 80's. Decorated in a mauve and mint green color scheme, I felt like I was eating at grandma's house. We searched through the menu and decided on the Great Wall dinner special. You get Sizzling Rice Soup, Fried wontons, fried battered shrimp, spring roll, paper-wrapped chicken and bbq pork ribs. We also ordered the Szechuan Shrimp and General Tso's Chicken. It took 20 minutes and two requests before my husband got his iced tea. Then another 30 minutes to get our goddamn soup. Then another 10 to get the appetizers. Meanwhile, the people who walked in around the time we got the iced tea, are now about half done with their meals and we haven't even gotten our food yet. Utter bullshit. AND our waiter who obviously has the mental capacity of an eggroll has disappeared. I grabbed a waitress serving the table next to us and asked her to get the manager. This cute little old man comes over and I explain to him the issue and to wrap the rest of our food to go. I also ask why it took so long and why the table who came here after us is almost done eating. His response went like this: I know he's a slow waiter. (He's not slow, he never came back) They ordered everything a la carte. (what in the FUCK does that have to do with anything?) Im sorry. I only charged you for one dinner. (I still have to pay for food that I never got to eat in the restaurant?) I hope that its better next time. (Uh.. yeah there wont be a next time) Let's also discuss the food. The Sizzling Rice Soup was mediocre. They use dark meat chicken in their dishes.... FYI. The appetizer platter was awful. The pork ribs were so dry, I couldn't take more than one bite. The fried shrimp was all batter and grease. The paper-wrapped chicken was all dark meat and fat. Barf. I couldnt get any further than that. It was awful, poor quality food. Please. For the love of Jesus, we need a Chinese restaurant in the AV that doesn't suck or fail epically. Food was fast food style. Black pepper chicken was just a ball of fried batter. Couldn't even taste any chicken flavor. Never tasted fried rice like theirs. It had a "brown" flavor with no vegetables and no egg. Shrimp with fat noodles, they called and said they didn't have fat noodles so they substituted with rice noodles. There might have been 9 shrimp the size of a nickel. Pan Pan is better, which isn't saying much, and it would have cost $20 instead of $34. Don't bother with Great Wall. Came here last night with a friend. I have to say, Great Wall is very good. The place was not dirty like someone else had said. When we sat down, there was water and tea waiting for us. I loved that. Right away, our waitress, came and brought us those yummy crispy noodles with spicy mustard. My favorite!! :) We ordered off of the manderin side, and had the meal for 10.99 For 10.99 we got: Won ton soup (Delicious), paper wrapped chicken (my friend LOVED this), delicious egg roll and fried won tons which were super yummy with spicy mustard. We also got steamed rice and I picked orange chicken, and she picked sweet and sour chicken. We had so much food that we took home left overs. They are so nice there, and the place was packed! I used to be a huge fan of Great Wall. I would tell people it was the best Chinese in the AV. But, the quality of the food here has truly gone WAY downhill, to the point where I won't frequent the establishment any longer. The decline, in my opinion, coincided with the end of the potstickers on their menu several years ago. Potstickers had been the best offering at Great Wall. Whomever made the potstickers was the soul of this place and for whatever reason they're gone now as are the potstickers and the years of awards which they attempt to display in reception. Has anyone noticed the date of the last "AV's best" ? Its not recent for a reason. While I can agree that the food is cheap, especially for lunch, its still just not worth it. The food is either entirely tasteless or leaves a greasy residue in your mouth that requires brushing and mouthwash to alleviate. This doesn't even factor in the cleanliness issues as the seating, walls and flooring will demonstrate. If its this dirty where I am sitting, what's in the kitchen where I can't see? If you're looking for better quality Asian, my personal suggestion, go to Mana Restaurant in Palmdale. read more

I have eaten here many times over my 30 years of living in the AV. I love Chinese food. I will admit, my favorite for years was the Phoenix Inn in Palmdale. The last time I went to Great Wall the only thing I could see was ... the dirt, the grime, the filth. That's all my friends and I could see. The food is good but if the dining room looks dirty ..... well, I don't think I need to say more. I am hoping that they will close for a bit, gut the place and remodel. When we first moved to Lancaster in 2012 we ate here. The food was ok, nothing to rave about, but it filled the belly. The next time we ate here, which was probably 2013 we were told they use MSG in their food but if we asked the waiter, they would not put it in. In January, we ordered take out. The MSG thing slipped my mind, I don't normally eat at places I know has it, but I wasn't feeling that great and wanted soup and beef with broccoli. We should have just ordered from somewhere else, because everything was nasty. My soup was tasteless and the dumplings tasted like they were frozen. My beef with broccoli was covered in globs of MSG, and most of the broccoli was rotten. It was the grosses experience I have had. read more

Best Chinese place I've ever been to especially for the value. This place is cheaper than Panda Express ($5 lunch specials? yes please!)... yes.. you heard right... Not only is it cheaper, but it's a million times better since its a real restaurant and you get way more food. I like to get different lunch specials with the people I'm with then all share. Their wonton soup is amazing. You have to try it. With every meal you get free wonton strips with hot mustard and sweet and sour, free hot tea, and with lunch and dinner specials you get soup, wontons, egg rolls, and with dinner paper wrapped chicken. This place can be packed sometimes so I like to order it to go and take it home... only problem is that you don't get soup with your lunch combo if you do that :( (not sure why). The people are always nice, the service is good and fast, and the food is amazingly delicious. read more

I think most foodies would consider this place "OK" ... recognizing that it is a little weak on food quality, but very strong on price/value and ambience. The truth is their prices haven't seemed to change in years, and I think that's why they are sometimes so packed. The decor is pretty much what it was over 20 years ago when I first went here, not too run-down, but the booths and reduced lighting help the overall feel of the place. If this is the best Chinese food in the AV, then I'll just have to drive an hour when I want Chinese food. Honestly, Panda Express is far better than this sham of a Chinese restaurant. We ordered three dishes: Mu Shu Shrimp, Shrimp w/ Chinese Greens, and Dry Sauteed String Beans. The Mu Shu pancakes they use look and taste like flour tortillas. The Mu Shu I've had in the past has had pancakes which are much lighter and softer than this, more like crepes. We wound up just unwrapping them and eating the filling. . The Shrimp w/ Chinese Greens turned out to be Shrimp w/ Broccoli. Broccoli is NOT "Chinese Greens". Broccoli is broccoli. If I order Chinese Greens, I expect to be served Chinese Greens. That, and while the shrimp was cooked perfectly, the broccoli was decidedly still raw. They recooked the broccoli for me, so that I was able to eat it, but that couldn't fix the bland sauce it was cooked in. I can buy better sauce in a jar at Albertson's. I usually don't order Fried Rice, but this time I did, and was treated to a flavorless mound of rice dotted with a scant number of peas and carrots and a few bits of egg. While the Dry Sauteed String Beans were nothing to write home about, they were the best part of this truly horrible meal. read more

I'm giving this place three stars in an ironic and generous gesture on my part. First off, be prepared to party like it's 1987. Because that's what this place is stuck in. The seats are the same as my childhood and the stains on the pictures are probably from then, too. Not like fabric pictures, framed pictures covered in glass. Seriously, get some Mr. Clean and wipe those babies down. We came here when they opened and were probably the third party seated for the day so I know those stains weren't from some 10am ruckus. Anyway, this place is in serious need of an update. The food was ok. The rice seemed a little old but everything else seemed fresh. It's for sure not what you would expect from an authentic Chinese restaurant but it was good. We ordered way to much and had to take some home but ultimately, it was pretty affordable. I got my craving for Great Wall done for this decade and when I come back in another ten or so years, I expect to see the same stains on the pictures. read more

The waitress took forever to come to our table, when I called her over, she spoke limited English and never fully understood me. I had to reiterate my order like 5 times before she had it straight. When we finally received our sampler, the shrimp tasted tough and chewy, same for BBQ spare ribs. Nasty stale, but the manager felt the need to argue with me about their fresh food, forget about the customer experience in this place. The only tasty item was the ChoCho. I'm disappointed in myself for not taking pictures of their filthy plates, we should have walked out at that very instant. While we tried to tell the manager the shrimp and ribs were stale, he was more concerned about how much of the plate we had eaten so that he could calculate how much to charge. What topped it off was that after we complained about the dishes being dirty, and the stale taste of the sampler, the manager and his staff kept looking at our direction. So I ended up canceling the rest of the order fearing they would spit or do something to my food. I explained to the manager how uncomfortable this made me feel, and he insisted he had routine meetings with his staff for customer satisfaction. We've been going to the Great Wall for years and always enjoyed it. But the last two times there has been a definite change for the worst. Last week we were there and ordered low mein and orange chicken. The low mein was nothing more than a plate of stir fried spaghetti. Almost nothing in it. My favorite authentic Chinese place back in my hometown. In fact, the only Chinese place i ever eat at when i'm there. They have the second best kung pao chicken ever. Great meal specials like the early bird dinner: heaping portions of 1 entree, large pot of fried or steamed rice, egg roll, large fried wontons with meat inside, paper-wrapped chicken, and soup for about 5 bucks if i remember correctly. Free unlimited fried wonton strips with sweet and sour sauce. THE best appetizer ever: cho-cho - 4 grilled and marinated strips of beef on a stick with grilled pineapple and green peppers on each end... presented with your very own fire pot with a flame that lasts until your meal is finished, so you can continuously heat up the meat. soooooooooo good. They also make a really good pepsi with cherry syrup. Great atmosphere too, and the service is usually quite good. read more

Oh man, every time I'm in the AV I always magically end up at Great Wall for lunch or dinner. Nothing can beat the amount of food you get for the amount of dough you turn over. I'm surprised those Panda Expresses in Palmcaster are still in business, because Great Wall seriously kicks Panda butt!! OK if you overlook the fact that you may never find a fully stuffed (with meat) wonton at Great Wall, or that the waiting line may begin to inundate that Indian restaurant to the immediate west, you'll enjoy your visit. The great thing is that even if you have to wait 30 minutes for a table, your food takes only 5 to 10 minutes to get out once you're seated. Within those 5 to 10 minutes, they still expect you to polish off a bowl of wonton strips. Five stars just for providing wonton strips, which have become an endangered species at other Chinese restaurants in the Golden State. Never had bad service/attitude from the employees. Every single Chinese restaurant in the USA should take note and hire the same emotion work coaches as Great Wall. read more

I definitely think this place deserves to have more than 3 stars. I've been going here for my lunch break for 6 years now and I have never had a problem. I go probably once a month. Take out or dining in I have no complaints. Plus side to dining in is getting that cup of soup before your meal. Gets the appetite really going. Think you guys are doing a wonderful job. If I could give this place a 0 I would give this. -0! Worst customer service ever. I order the lunch special sweet and sour pork I come home and it's sweet and sour chicken. I tried two pieces. So I call them to let them know they made a mistake (this is not the first time they made a mistake in My order) I got disconnected 3 times which I think they did it on purpose because they hate to admit a mistake. So I go back to pick up my correct order and they are saying it was sweet and sour pork. I told them it was chicken and they argued with me. They did not bite into the food so how would they know if it was chicken or pork. They kept Insisting that is what the sweet and sour pork looks like. First they are both covered in batter and fried I know they look alike but there is a difference between pork and chicken. Instead of showing good faith and making a returning customer happy they did not want to make me a new batch until I assisted they give me a new order or my money back. Why argue with a customer. I know what the sweet and sour pork looks like! And the chicken and the pork looks exactly alike until you bite into it! Why would I lie . Best chinese restaurant in the Antelope Valley... which is not saying much. But Great Wall holds its own. They have typical American-Chinese cuisine. And they do it well. Typically I get take out and I'm rarely disappointed. I have dined-in a couple of times and the server was very hospitable and kind. The prices and portions are great, especially if you dine-in. The woman who typically works the hostess stand and takes take-out orders is be coming a little less and less friendly over time. I think it is the toll of taking take-out orders all day. Perhaps a vacation is in order. In general, I recommend it for your next chinese meal. read more

We come for the wonton soup (my kids love it!) and the crispy noodles with sweet and sour sauce. The portions are a good size, although I have noticed they've gotten smaller recently as the price has increased. Not sure what that's all about. But still we always have plenty of leftovers. I noticed a few other commented on how dirty the place is, I have to agree. The carpet is nasty and the whole place could use a deep clean. Who could have imagined that the Antelope Valley has a decent Chinese restaurant? Great Wall isn't much to look at, but the food is pretty darn good and it's downright amazing for Chinese food in the Antelope Valley. For the full-on connoisseur the food is Szechuan not Cantonese which means you won't see everything on the menu that you're used to down in Los Angeles. But what they have is pretty good. Their vegetables are always great as is their mu-shu. Their chicken varies. Pricewise this place is dirt cheap. We fed 4 of us this evening for 26 bucks (no drinks, no booze). If you're in the AV and want some Chinese food consider heading on over to Great Wall before you drive the 40+ miles down to Los Angeles. read more

The food is great, but other reviewers are right, the place is filthy. I didn't notice until I read the reviews, and now that I've seen it, I can't UNSEE it. I'm not saying that their food is filthy, and it is quite tasty, but I'm not sure if I want to risk it again. I used to work in the food service industry for 4 years, and there is no way that we would have gotten away with having an establishment as grimy as this.
