This a decent buffet place. They have sushi, Chinese food, salad bar, tubs of ice cream & frozen yogurt. The food was ok. We didn't see the regular menu, but the buffet is $15.99 for ages 12 and up. Great buffet style restaurant with helpful servers, good food and a ton of space. I just went here with my wife and her family because they all used to meet up there for regular family dinners. There's a huge selection of American style "Chinese" food or more traditional dishes served on the menu. The buffet is $13 IIRC and a very good value. For some reason, the garlic green beans stand out as my favorite. Fried rice, lo mein noodles, BBQ pork, orange chicken, egg drop soup (spicy and regular) salad, fruit, and desserts. It's good, it's cheap and it's comfortable. The ONLY negative feedback I have stems from something that really wasn't even their fault but did piss me off enough to finally say something. Half way through our meal this guy walks in staring at his phone and then asking for a pickup. He's a DoorDash/UberEats driver. The server politely tells him the order isn't ready and this old crusty ass sweat pants and NASCAR jacket jerk starts losing it about the order not being ready. I can hear him from the table and he's just a complete jackass. I keep staring over there hoping someone will come to her rescue as this dude keeps fuming away. Now, it's not really my business but I'm a customer who is paying full price and having my atmosphere/attention ruined by this jerk. DD/UE, for those of you who don't know, take a cut from the restaurant meaning if you were eating in your tab would be 20-30% more to the actual restaurant rather than DD/UE. So, not only is this asshole not eating there, he's choosing to make it a worse atmosphere for everyone the restaurant is making more money off of. Solution: Tell this jackass to kick rocks. Do not allow these drivers to EVER speak to your staff like that. Report him and tell him he's 86'd from coming to year restaurant ever again. Your staff does not deserve to be berated by anyone. Haven't been here since my last visit and I must say that it was much better than last time. My server Justine was just amazing she was so polite and great with the kids and my service dog. Food was good specially the stir fry was done really well. Some items where a bit cold on the buffet but over much happier with this visit. read more

This used to be a goto and I have it a try for old times sake. It was always a 6of10, but that's expected. I never give poor reviews but this is the time. Friendliness by the person who seated us gained a star because the person was nice. Someone should check on the cook. It's possible that he's being held as a hostage and crying for help by sending only inedible food out from the kitchen. I have no problem with a cook who's been to the penitentiary, but someone should tell them they're out now and people need food that is created with some amount of care. Time for this restaurant to become something else, like a dog washing salon. Heck, they might be doing it back there. We've ate here for years and it's always amazing. We do miss the lunch specials, and the price of Buffett keeps creeping up (now $15 without a drink) so we're down to special occasions now but they have solid $10 and under plates that work great to go and it's just good, hot, consistent food. Their Black Bean dishes on their lunch menu (not buffet) are worth a try for sure! Even if you're hesitant to experience the incredible savory notes that only Chinese fermented black bean can offer, this sauce is VERY mild and a great way to explore your horizons. Put it on crunchy panfried noodles, doused in flavorful gravy and crunchy fresh veggies, and it's the American Chinese dish that you'll dream about at night. Just a couple critiques: Personally, I wish the sauce had an even stronger black bean flavor - it'd make it even better. The panfried noodles taste a bit smokey sometimes? So much yum! Originally, not my favorite in Boise. The main reason is the Hot n Sour soup. Really, it isnt great. But... Keep reading, it gets better! This buffet is unique in that they offer a wok service, much like Mongolian BBQ but more chinese-ish. They have meats (including shrimp!), veggies and noodles. Pick what you like and add wok sauce (Cantonese salty or Sweet BBQ) and they cook it up. Lighter and more bland than your typical Mongo. But authentic and fresh. You can taste the flavor of the food vs. Sauces. Then there is the actual buffet. Smaller than selections at City Buffet or the other Chinese buffet here in Boise.... but their choices are fresh, tasty and generally ideal varieties. I'd say... they are solid choices. The "salad bar" has pudding, jello, bananas with red stuff and orange slices... Again, ideal choices that seem to be in places like this. So... get through all that, desert. I won't lie, normally when I go to buffets of this variety I don't really care about dessert. However, with great wall, I try to leave a little extra room. 1st of all, they have sliced cake and pies both in a refrigerated cabinet and curio that offers nearly as much of these in a varying variety of flavors that it almost seems like you can have a harder time of selection with dessert than you could with your meal. They also have saw serve and frozen ice cream. Then, unexpected for a Chinese buffet, they had toppings. It wasn't a whole lot but it was enough to make me actually want ice cream and I took me 2 scoops of mint chocolate chip and fudge on top and added peanuts... and was a way over stuffed and happy lady. read more

Great Wall Restaurant is a well-known establishment held in high regard in the Boise food scene. I grew up eating here, our parents eat here, and all of our friends eat here. And so I was incredibly excited to have it again after having been gone from Boise for so long. In fact, it was one of the thoughts ruminating in my head as I made the 8-hour drive over from Seattle. This place, in pre-COVID times, was always jam packed and acts as a community center of sorts. On Sundays, you'll find it jam packed with folks fresh from church. On other nights, you'll find families dining together with extended families, and friends getting up to greet one another. It saddens me to see folks leaving harsh reviewing stating they've come here for decades only to leave a bad review after countless times of good service and good food. I'm here to set that straight. I'm no food aficionado by any means, but I am blessed to live in Seattle and surrounded by good food. Eating at Great Wall restaurant again after being away for so long has not changed my opinions on it. What makes this place unique to me: 1. The General's Chicken- Living 6 minutes away from the International District in Seattle, I have yet to find General's Chicken there or anywhere else for that matter, that matches the General's Chicken found here in terms of quality and sheer tastiness. 2. Crab Rangoons- Like the above, I have yet to find Crab Rangoons that matches this. They're large and more stuffed than other crab rangoons elsewhere. 3. Potstickers- Tasty filling, not too doughy, and nice little pan sear on the exterior. I dare you to find better potstickers. 4. Stir-Fry House- It's a common misconception to think of this as a Mongolian Grill. Both give you the option to customize your bowl of noodles. What sets this apart from the others is that instead of the ingredients being cooked on a flat iron griddle, the food is cooked in a wok. Something about getting tossed around in the oil gives it sooo much more flavor. A lot has changed for the better since last time I visited. There's a sushi bar now and the whole interior has been revamped and expanded to be much roomier. The selection of food is vast and there's surely something for everyone if the craving is Chinese food. I've never had a problem with customer service and it has always been speedy and friendly. This place will be savored twice for me: Once in the moment and again in my memories, during the long 8-hour drive back to Seattle. read more

The food here was amazing and everything was very fresh. It is very hard to find good Chinese food in this area but this is great Chinese food and the buffet is highly recommended. They offer a wide variety of absolutely all my favorites in Chinese food. If you want soft serve ice cream make sure you ask your waitress she has to bring that to you but they do have regular ice cream by the scoop in a small freezer by the buffet. It's not as close as China Grand, but worth the extra mile. Our server Stephanie was very attentive, and the manager and other staff made us feel very welcome. The restaurant is clean, open and inviting, and while the look may not be as authentic, the food is on par with the competition if not superior. I noticed their sweet and sour sauce was different than most Chinese restaurants here and in Arizona, a lot gooier and less runny, not to mention a more appetizing shade of orange instead of hot pink. I approve. The buffet includes stir fry, made to order, but I didn't get a chance to try it. There's plenty of fruit and veggies, and a few generic items like popcorn shrimp and tater tots for finicky eaters. Dessert includes the usual jello, donuts, ice cream and, by request, soft serve. Worst service ever! Luckily it was a buffet or we probably would have really waited forever for our food. Server came by once asked if everything was okay and if we wanted another drink and then never came by again, after 30 minutes of waiting for drinks and at least plates could have been picked up by ANYONE walking past us since our server didn't seem to have time for any of his tables we left. The restaurant did apologize and not charge for our one drink but the 4 people standing up front could have helped the server if he was that overwhelmed but this was such a disappointment for what was to be a family treat of a night out. This casual restaurant was a last minute idea for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised when they had a all-you-can-eat buffet. The Food - A vast amount of options to choose from. Spicy jalapenos stuffed with pork, pepper shrimp, egg flower soup and Vietnamese egg rolls are just a fraction of the 50+ dishes to choose from. There is also a salad bar, a station for stir-fry, Sushi galore, dessert bar and refillable drinks. All of the food was fresh, hot & delicious! Ambiance - On a Friday afternoon, there was a steady crowd and quite busy. The restaurant was clean and comfortable with booths along with a sprinkling of tables and chairs. The decor was classic Chinese with a campy/kitchy feel. Gaudy chandeliers full of bling hung above our heads. Service - Our waitress was incredibly prompt and pleasant despite it being quite busy. Price - This was the shocker - $8.50 per person for everything including drinks. My companion received a Senior discount and only paid $7.65. I would have liked to see a general ingredients list for each item on the buffet bar. I do not recommend the buffet to people that have allergies or gluten sensitivities. The plastic pockets where the signs were located were torn and looked liked they needed replaced and the condiment bottles were spilled and needed cleaning. The food seemed pretty tasty at first, yet was followed not long after with stomachaches, bloating, and other thoughts that are better served for one's own imagination. The interior just did not provide a welcoming presence - compared to its authentic-looking competitor three miles north on Fairview, this place seemed like an abandoned pawn shop that was abruptly converted into a restaurant. Upkeep was something else. I saw several tables with trash and dirty dishes up and down aisles, seats littered with crusty crumbs, stains where babies/little kids sat, and pieces of food on the floor.
