My name is Mikaela Koonz. I was here yesterday, and one of my favorite parts of this visit is how the staff handled me dropping chili all over myself. They helped me up, and scraped it off of my legs while I was finishing my dessert. My server gave me one more bite before I left, and helped me since my mind was weak. I was very favorably impressed. Most of the food was very good. The hot food was kept hot. I especially liked the pot roast. It was delicious & the meat was so tender that I actually went back for 2nds - which I never do with meat. My husband had a steak custom cooked for him. That was a big surprise for a buffet. The service was very good, with the table attendant kept the empty plates cleared away, brought us clean plates and refilled our drinks as necessary without having to be asked. Pros - Great staff! From cashier to service staff to kitchen staff, all were friendly and efficient. We came early and location was clean and well maintained. We were never rushed and refills were automatic. You may enjoy breakfast and lunch items if you are still seated at the turnover. Should be similar lunch to dinner. Nice they offer different speciality items daily. No doggie bags, obviously for a buffet, but feel free to grab a bag of fresh cotton candy! . Meh - Location is convenient with adequate parking. Food was correct temperatures, cleanly presented, slightly under seasoned, but nothing outstanding in flavor. Note; they offer taco bar, salad bar & full dessert bar at breakfast. No manager seen, but no need either. . Cons - Dining area outdated. Definitely needs a new decor. Silverware and plates are also low quality. They charge for coffee & ice tea, but milk & juices are free. Seems petty. No lemon offered with ice tea. Yes, they have lemon, but after receiving the ice tea from the staff, you have to get the lemon yourself. Odd, because for coffee, they bring the creamer and sugar to the table. My used/empty plate was removed with my silverware and although clean plates were provided, I had to ask for replacement silverware, by finding my server elsewhere in the dining room. I was disappointed at the lack of variety for fresh fruit offered. . Verdict - Better than I had expected, pricier than anticipated, but they do offer various discounts. Something for everyone, I personally like the fried shrimp on Friday nights and the salad bar is great a lot of selections. Sometimes I go there for lunch and have a late dinner at home because the lunch is awesome too and it's quite a bit of a savings but there's something for everybody here when they're busy it's sort of messy but you see people cleaning up after people always.. haven't been there for a while, but I'm gonna go back. The woman that is working the grill needs to learn about cleanliness and cross contamination. She has a knife in her apron pocket and saw her cut the cornbread, put it back in her pocket. Then, cut up rolls for the burgers and placed same knife back in her apron pocket. What else has the knife been used for? She filled up a container with water at a hand washing sink. She has same knofe cutting up meatloaf and then placed knife back in apron pocket. Also, noticed her wiping down countertops with a towel, didnt look like it was in sanitizer. Me and a few friends decided to treat ourselves to a "nice" dinner at golden coral. We heard online this was a pretty decent spot for some cheap eats. However upon our arrival, things took a turn for the worse. Immediately upon sitting down, we noticed most of the tables were dingy and disorganized. The server was nice and got us our drinks, which was about the only nice part about this dinner. All the food, and I mean all of it, was mediocre, cold, and very unseasoned. We hoped the dessert selection would prove favorably, but it was just the same. Ice cream tasted like water, and all pies and cobblers were sadly stale. And to add to the disappointment, there was no chocolate fountain. And for $20, is it even cheap? If I were to go to a buffet, chuck a Rama proves to be far superior. 10/10 would NOT recommend. read more

Service is excellent. Food quality has gone way down in the last year or more. Desserts used to be wonderful. Now they are subpar. The custard pies taste like package mix. They quit having chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate pie, peach cobbler, and other favorites. The ice cream machine doesn't work half the time and they did away with hard ice cream. They started going downhill when they replaced decent napkins with cheap, little ones. It's as if they want to drive people away. The vegetables in their roast beef are usually undercooked, the delicious chicken and gravy, grilled fish, and other items we looked forward to have disappeared. And having to pay extra for your drinks is a turn off to a lot of people. It used to be crowded on the weekends, but not any more. We hate having another restaurant go out of business, but that's where you're headed. read more

They go above and beyond in honoring the military and veterans each year around Veterans Day. My husband was there with five of his friends the other night. No... just no. Went in last night at 8:30 pm - they close at 10:00 pm. Grill guy was already turning off the grill and I had to get a manager just to get steak. The pieces I eventually got were not seasoned at all and filled with gristle. The country ham was completely dried out and would get them a health department violation. Bathroom was gross. Poop on toilet. Employees took food to have for later making it where they had to redo some items - son waited 20 mins for pizza. Also poor hygiene. Considering they had to be approached numerous times for simple items, poor customer service and the poor hygiene issues - stay away. They should have just closed early and they really need to fix things. read more

No daily military discount but Veteran day they give free meals to past and present military. Drinks were always full. Food wasn't too bad considering it sits under heat lamps until it is gone. It was fairly busy while we were here. Tons of food to pick from. Fruits and veggies galore! Only complaint I really have is the customers not the business itself. People not using the serving utensils or not watching their kids pick something up and put it back. PRO, the kitchen staff was watching these things happen and I saw one utensil get replaced and the touched food was removed and tossed in the trash. read more

This place is great if you want a clean environment as a buffet. The cost is actually quite good as well for family of 3 to be able to eat and partake of the buffet goodness. And also has a great fondue set up for chocolate on the dessert bar It's fun for friends and family both a like. And since I'm doing the Yelp thing I will continue to do reviews of other places that I go. However with this one here the dining has plenty of space in a casual environment for people who want to come and enjoy a meal together. The humbling experience started with entering and a guy coming behind the counter. Then when we were getting our plates the front desk lady had to remove a stack of dirty unwashed plates. Used to be one of our favs but went back for the first time since Covid. Slow service and no drink refills not unexpected in this time of hard to get employees and supply chain issues but the food selection was way less than expected and no flavor in most food items, all just tasted the same! The lettuce for the salad had chopped up core included and a LOT of brown & rotten throughout. The steak was cooked to order and was nice & the cheesecake was yummy, left the rest... so sad. Very good price for a really good meal. You can literally eat anything. Their salad was fresh and good. The steak, ham and sausage was amazing. And chocolate covered strawberries were delicious. The reason for leaving a review is because the staff went above and beyond what I expected. I have a 8 month old that won't breastfeed but only wants the bottle. We were out during the day and I had the pump with me and went in the bathroom to pump before eating but there wasn't any plug ins anywhere. I asked our waiter and she said unfortunately they didn't have one in the bathroom but said she will go ask someone else... about 5 min later another waiter (a shorter lady with short hair, a bit older) came and told me to follow her. She closed a whole section of the restaurant, closed the blinds and let me use that part of the seating area that had a power outlet for 12-15 min while I pumped. This is a great place with a veritable smorgasbord of food. All you can eat and believe me, that is what people do. EAT, EAT, EAT. It's not a 5 star restaurant but the service is great and the food is prepared and non-stop. If they don't have it, wait 5 minutes and the plate will be replaced and more food will be on the way. You can't really have high experience when going to a buffet. Golden Corral is the better of the buffets in the area. The service is usually fine and food is well it's eatable. The salad bar is the main reason we like this place. The rest of it is ok. The competition doesn't have nearly the selection. One thing that boggles me is that you can get your own salad bowl your own soup bowel your own dessert bowl but for some dumb reason not your dinner plates... you're literally in charge of serving your own food but you can't touch the plates. They have to be brought to you. Lol. It's insane. Either do it all one way or all the other. Don't mix and match. Also and this is the reason why the score was a 3 and not a 4. When I ask for a water after having my fill of soda I don't want the water added to the soda cup I've been using that still had soda in it making the water you brought to me brown and taste like coke water... not good. Good buffet. Very large selection of dishes. Lots of comfort food options which makes me really happy. I adore fried chicken and there's is pretty good also love their green beans. The desert bar is also very well stocked with a chocolate fountain yay! If I want a good salad I come here because they have the largest selection I found in this valley for options on a salad bar. Everything is kept fresh and replaced often. Once in awhile you might find the ranch out because they have a high volume of customers. The service is hit-and-miss. Sometimes you'll get a server who's great and sometimes you won't see your server but once and the dishes pile up. I've had to go up in the past to the front to get water so you never know what you're going to get. Pricing is competitive. There are only two regular buffets in Boise that I know of and I eat out a lot and this is my choice most of the time. read more

This review is for an evening about a month ago. I've been in and out of the Boise region lately doing various consulting work, and this year a lot of the hotels/travel agencies lately have some weird deal where you get like a gift certificate to a restaurant or some tourist trap. The whole thing is a little tacky, but it's difficult to turn down free or steeply discounted food, am I right? Still, it seems weird to get a single coupon for a free buffet, like, what kind of a sad night out does the travel agency have planned for me? How desperate do you gotta be right? Regardless of my ambivalence, I braved the weirdness, for the sake of curiosity as much as hunger. Upon arriving at Golden Corral, walking through the hot, sticky parking lot in the Southern Idaho heat, I had a sort of "Black Hole Sun" moment as a vision from years earlier played across my inner vision even as the glare from the sun blinded my physical eyes. About 15 years prior my friend from Florida hag dragged me to this same Golden Corral. I remember at the time being astonished at how much he loved it, though I was underwhelmed on all fronts. My mind recoiled from the past, I was alone again in a strange little anti-chamber leading to one of those mazes of rails like amusement parks have. I stepped through the maze. The smell was strange. Not bad, but strange. Far too neutral for a restaurant. A crew member quickly took my coupon for a free buffet, handed me a tray and silverware, and informed be they did not sell booze. Of any kind. Now don't get me wrong, I'm fine with abstaining from alcohol, but sometimes a glass of antiseptic is in order. You know what I mean? I took my tray and sat down as far away from everyone else as I could. The tables were littered with bizarre and depressing people. They seemed to match the grey smell and utter lack of decor in the place. The waitress came over promptly and gave me the run down. She was quite pleasant, but being somewhat clairvoyant, I could see the pain in her eyes and the heavy cloud of confusion and shame weighing on her like a sack of wet camel's hair. She did her job admirably, it's not that she was deficient in anyway, it's more like the job is deficient for her. I took a deep breath, grabbed a plate, and steeled myself against the storm. Walking through the buffet, you notice the corporate posters up everywhere are the only decor in the whole place. And they are weird posters. Shiny, happy, perfect families of all races, expressing their various favorite dishes on the menu. They do not match the demographic that was eating there, that's for sure. The grey lumps of flesh that appear to be regulars were not nearly as vibrant, diverse, or happy as the poster people. I wondered to myself as I passed by a haphazard melange of frozen pies and cheesecakes, "Do people really $14 for this?" I mean when you think about it, a $15 plate of food at a local place is more than you're going to eat in one sitting. For the love of Shiva, there's an Indian place practically right across the street that was a smaller but MUCH better buffet, and it's WAY cheaper and authentic but not crazy spicy. Speaking of spicy, I couldn't find anything spicy on the Coral's buffet line. The best thing I did find was some orange chicken. It was much better than Panda Express, then again so is dumpster gravy. I really appreciated the onions, raisins, and mandarin oranges in the dish, but still, it was fried meat in syrup. And not fried in a good healthy oil, and breaded with enriched flour of course, and the syrupy suace is corn syrup based, and comes in a freezer bag. It's sort of like gas station food buffet. And like a gas station that sells hot food, the Coral is not really a restaurant either. In fact I would refer to Golden Coral as a "food emporium" or maybe "mixed fast food dispensary." In any case, before getting onto the orange chicken I tried this and that and nothing really wowed me. They let you eat all the mystery-cut steak you want, and the guy is real good about service and everything, but there's just no flavor. No pinch of seasonings, just dry steak for Boomers to dump a pound of salt and pepper on and feel like they're "getting a deal." It's not a deal. Like I said, for a meal that takes the better part of a twenty dollar bill for one person, the quality is really lacking. Generic syrup food. I did consider that maybe the salad area was safe. I was a little cautious because nothing over there gets cooked, but I figured there's probably like mixed greens and spinach right out of a pre-washed bag from Grasmick, and they had what looked like just olive oil and vinegar out, so I thought a salad could be a safe bet to start. The oil and vinegar bottles needed a wipe down, but still the salad was OK. After a number of disappointing options and utterly forgettable deserts not even as good as Safeway or Fred Meyer generic bakery stuff, I decided to go back for a salad for my final feeding....aaand there's a hair. read more

Kindness... My parents love GC and when they come to Boise it is their chosen lunch spot. My mother was not feeling well today. The waitress noticed and came over and asked for my debit card back. She said "we over charged you." They refused to let me pay for my mom. She brought over some chicken noodle soup. She even gave her some Sprite. We are down in Boise to see the cardiologist and my mother explained it was stress. The waitress genuinely cared about her. I am generally not a fan of buffets. Tried Golden Corral today after it's re-opening from the Covid19 shutdown. They did a real good job. The cashier explained the new dining rules. Tables had been taken out to social distance. The food line is chained off and signs on the floor to distance. They offer masks and gloves if wanted. The waitress offers condiments and brings plates and silverware. We had our masks but took the gloves. You serve yourself as always but safely. There are not as many choices, but still the most popular ones. Of course there are still people who don't wear masks or gloves, so a person who wants to protect themselves as well as others has to be alert. I would say they are doing as good a job as is possible under the circumstances. Would definitely go again read more

On the holiday weekend I had called to inquire about weather they would be open on Christmas Eve the young woman said they would be open until 9 pm. I arrived at 4:15 pm to find a sign on the door stating they closed at 4:00 pm. We come here because my husband really likes Golden Corral. I'm from Florida and that is where he first tried it. Cheap Buffets do not exist in Spain where he is from, so this is very exotic to him. It's a bit hard for me, since I do not have the same metabolism. He especially enjoys the Steak. I let him pick the stars and he chose 4. This particular restaurant was sad to me. We went early on a Sunday and there were just so many obese people, that it made me lose my appetite. It is just painful to see the role socioeconomics plays in obesity.
