Probably the worst place I have ever been for a Chinese buffet. The food seemed pretty tasty at first, yet was followed not long after with stomachaches, bloating, and other thoughts that are better served for one's own imagination. The interior just did not provide a welcoming presence - compared to its authentic-looking competitor three miles north on Fairview, this place seemed like an abandoned pawn shop that was abruptly converted into a restaurant. Upkeep was something else. I saw several tables with trash and dirty dishes up and down aisles, seats littered with crusty crumbs, stains where babies/little kids sat, and pieces of food on the floor. If it were not for a friend who loves this place as much as a single sports fan loves Hooters, I would have avoided this place on day one. read more

I heave been going here for years and it was always good staff was friendly. I moved to Arizona and came back for my daughter birthday. Our wait was rude, short and we were a table of 8 and he would walk right past us we asked for a fork because my daughter the birthday girl couldn't eat her food had to wait 10 min before he came back. When he did come he through the fork on the wrong table and turned and walked away we all need refill and my brother asked for a refill after what like felt like an hour we asked another waitress for refill and he came back and said here your Pepsi and root beer not making sure they went to the right people. He then brought us our check and put everything on one ticket and when he walked away with not even making sure we needed anything my sister said where paying separately he said that's fine you can change that up front. Then when we went to pay he was quoting us the wrong price and when my mom started to get frustrated he became even more rude say mam I don't see why your confused. It's saf that a place I loved so much was ruined by one man. He wasn't wearing a name tag so can't even refer to him by name we were people to him we where just a pay check. I thought this place was great I was looking up the address because I've been out if town for a while and saw some negative reviews so I thought I'd leave this. I'm sure the negative reviews are from some picky eaters because I get the buffet every time and eat no less than three full trays of food and force myself to eat it all and I've always thought it was very good. The only reason my stomach hurt was from the sheer quantity of food that I ate and the buffet is very reasonably priced. The next day I was totally fine! This is probably my favorite Chinese place in town and certainly my favorite place to go when I'm bulking. Highly recommend. read more

We recently moved into a new neighborhood and this is the closest Chinese take-out, so we decided to try it out. We called for delivery but they stop taking delivery orders at 9 pm. (We called at 9:06 - no exceptions!) My husband had to run an errand anyway so we decided to go with a take-out order. Food was ready quickly (20 minute wait) and the order was correct, even with a special request for no onions in one rice order. We had sweet & sour chicken, chow mein, pork fried rice, an egg roll and fried shrimp. Sweet & sour sauce was cold and just ok. Chicken was pretty greasy but hot and so-so. The rice was fairly bland, shrimp was ok and the egg roll was meh. Chow mein was my favorite, very garlicky and I liked it. Husband didn't as much. Overall...it was...ok. We will probably try a different place next time we get that Chinese food craving. read more

Do not waste your money or time. HORRIBLE! They water down soda. When you bring it up they play dumb. Ordered from the menu and they grabbed it from the buffet. The waitress told us she was to busy and had 4 people ahead of us and then she would talk to us about our food. We told her we wanted our check. This place has been in the same spot since I was a child 20+ years ago. That says something about the place first off. The food is really good and the price is even better. Plus, they deliver. What more could you ask for from a place. The one star reviews on here don't make sense. Even when you read what they say, it doesn't make sense. Egg rolls are too spicy? The egg rolls aren't spicy at all. Want Panda Express instead, this place isn't that. I get hot fresh food the past 3 times I ordered and I will be ordering agin tonight. This place used to be a favorite to go for a quick bite of some so-so Chinese food, however, in recent months the place has gone to the dogs. Maybe that's what they're serving these days? The food has gotten terrible as well as the service and front desk/hostess help. The last two visits I have been treated with such rudeness that after tonight I will no longer give this restaurant my hard-earned money. The current evening hostess is rude, crass, and I'm sure brought up in a trailer park judging by her speech, chewing gum, and dangly earrings. When the Twin Dragon closed Boise lost one of its finest Chinese restaurants. Bar none. Great food, honest prices, and excellent service. I wish there was a rating lower than a zero. This was by far the most awful place I have dined at. Service from every employee was poor. We had deep fried chicken that was completely raw and pink on the inside. It wasn't remotely cooked. It made the four of us at the table sick to our stomachs. No one ate food after that. One of us had already eaten the chicken and the rest of us couldn't stomach our food. We each had maybe 2-4 bites of food. We told management and they tried to tell us that the food was cooked because it was deep fried. They were rude and just argued with us over clearly raw chicken. We all paid for food we barely ate and the person who had the chicken was only given $1.60 off of a $15 meal. They were so disrespectful to us and it was really disappointing to have nearly no compensation for a mistake. I still feel sick to my stomach and my friend who ate the chicken is now throwing up. As an avid critic (not through yelp) I have reviewed many restaurants but Great Wall is one I will never go back to. I have enjoyed the food through delivery several times, I had no Idea what I witnessed would make me never want to eat there again. As most yelper's reviewed I couldn't even focus on the food due to the multiple health code violations. Here is my break down of my visit. 1. The food on the buffet line was low quality and tasted all the same, it was not the same food I receive from delivery. 2. I watched for an hr and a half as hot food sat on the line without being changed (it was lukewarm at best and in the danger zone) 3. Stir fry station had a stack of plates in the window where the man cooks your food, next to those plates a big white dirty fan. (Another health code violation. 4. I ventured in to the bathroom to find the horrifying scene other reviews stated, the bathrooms dirty and exposed cleaners under the sink. (Use caution if you have kids) My two last MAJOR critiques that had me ready to leave- ASAP * If you visit here watch the wait staff/bussers (they are the same) During my meal I witnessed the waitress clearing old buffet plates from another customers table, I then asked as she came by for a refill on my drink. I was mortified when she picked up my glass with part of her free hand by the rim, she then preceded to refill it up at the front and bring it back to me. * My last observance was another disturbing act of negligence as I watched tables being cleaned off with the same rags. This was more frightening when she did not clean off the condiments (salt,pepper,soy sauce bottles) but left them dirty. Anyone who has been in the industry knows it is a violation to not be sanitized after every sitting. In closing I always like to go in to a restaurant "blind" I like to not know past reviews so I can be unbaised in my examinations. Before I left it was crucial to speak to management and show them my findings before I write and publish. I was shocked by the lady's response as it seemed she did not care, she had no idea of the fan violation and assured me every 2 months they are inspected. Nevertheless they will be getting a visit as I contacted a friend from the health department, after all of this their was no effort to make me happy. They still insisted I pay for my meal which I did, but if you happen to ignore this review and go there I have given you things to watch for. read more

We've been eating here (+delivery) for a long, long time. (A couple of decades?) Most of the time the food is very good. (I do NOT understand some of the one-star reviews. Totally NOT our experience.) We've had a couple of clunkers on occasion, but since we eat here at least once a month, I can truthfully say that normally the food is very good. This was never a top restaurant but it was reliable in its averageness. Purchased a to go order of the D for two. It was all horrible. Nothing as it was a few months ago. No flavor. Mushy beef in the boc Choy and mediocre sauce. The fried shrimp was pieces of shrimp in thick breading. The fried rice was white and obviously not seasoned. The Mandarin chicken sauce was boring as was the dry thick coated chicken. Even the pork and seeds was awful. Tough overcooked pork, and the house mustard was not hot at all. When I order, I expect my food to be prepared not fished out of the buffet steam tables. Never more disappointed in a restaurant in my life. Never written a review this critical but this deserved it. This restaurant offers a great variety of food. However, the quality of some of the food is less than stellar. During my last two visits, there were several dishes that were dried out from sitting under the heat lamps. The stir fry station is amazing, however. In the future, I plan to simply get my meal from the stir fry counter and skipping the buffet entrees entirely. read more

We have enjoyed the Great Wall for many years but it's not what it used to be. I have to write this review after our last visit..........the food was brought to us with NO plates or utensils and it was cold! Even the "hot" tea was luke warm. While we are serving up the food we discover a dead fly in the Chicken Almond Ding. Now that we had this dish on our plates we couldn't eat any of it. We informed our waitress who was instructed to tell us that only the Chicken Almond Ding would be remade!! NOT COOL. This is the last time we will be eating at "The Great Wall" read more

Like most people who have ever lived in Boise or Meridian within the last 20 years, I've been coming to Great Wall at different times throughout the last 2 decades. I've never ordered off the menu; I always get the buffet cause it's always great... so I know what to expect. My wife loves the stir fry. That's not really my thing so I can't comment on it but it's like one of the mongolian bbq places (and it's INCLUDED in the buffet! yeah!) Anyways, she really likes it. They have the best fried rice of any chinese place in town. The generals chicken, orange chicken, fried shrimp, egg foo young, egg drop soup.... It's all AWESOME! Great Wall has really turned over a new leaf! My wife and I would never have come back, chalking our first experience up to the place just being a below average, cheap asian buffet. A week or so ago, I was messaged by the manager regarding my initial review. He asked if my wife and I would give them a second chance and I have to say I couldn't be happier! The food was great! As far as the taste of the food goes it is not bad. Pretty standard Americanized Chinese food. The problems start up when you look past it at the standard cleanliness of the place with the cobwebs on the Beijing and dust right above the food trays. Plus with the ice cream station that has freezer burn on all the ice cream and a water bowl for the scoops that has to have a plethora of bacteria due to the floating ice cream and milk ness that shows they haven't changed the water for hours. Just by looking at that it makes me question the cleanliness of the rest of the restaurant. The decor is very dated and dark not at all modern. But if you need to feed a large group for cheap this is the place to be. But remember your getting what you pay for. And if you feel queasy after, yes it was food. read more

We decided to go to this buffet last night based on some of the more recent reviews. DH suggested China Grand, but I'm not a huge fan of that restaurant. Overall, we agreed that the Great Wall was better quality. The Kung Pao chicken actually had spice. General Tsos was good. The Spicy Chicken was a bit salty for DH's taste. We didn't try the stir fry house or the sushi. Loved the green beans. The fried rolls (egg rolls, etc) and pot stickers weren't to our liking, but that could just be preference. My main beef with the place is that the replenishment of food was not very fast. We got there at 7pm on a Friday night and had just missed a serious rush of people. Turnover may have been faster at that hour. I was able to get green beans, but the pan was not refilled in the 45 min that we were there. The place is clean and open. Very bright and doesn't seem crowded by too many tables in the middle of the floor. Our server was very nice, though a bit flustered. She may have been new. We'll be back! read more

By far the worst Chinese place I've ever been to. Ordered off the menu and very nearly walked out when I saw what was on my plate. The chow mien was nothing but a load of celery, sprouts, and onions with some crunchy Chinese noodles (ya know, the ones from a can?) thrown in underneath in a salty, and otherwise tasteless, mystery sauce. The chicken was dry, chewy, and smothered in a radioactive canned orange sauce that was far too salty/sugary and not much else. Husband and I were both sick not 20 minutes after leaving the restaurant. The restaurant itself is rather dirty and many tables were still covered in dishes and trash when we got in. Paying the check took about 15 minutes, line was a dozen people long, and there's only one cash register. I brought my wife here because of the yelp deal. This is the worst chinese buffet I've ever been to. The general tsos chicken was raw and we told them. All they said was they would tell the chef. Wow...just wow. Love Chinese food and am always ready to try a new place. I was visiting my daughter in Boise and we were on errands. We saw in the complex we were in at the time a Chinese buffet called The Great Wall. What an amazing find!! Everything they had was absolutely delicious. There was a wide variety of dishes and the food was fresh. The breading on certain meats was so flavorful, and the meats inside them were tender and seasoned well. Even the sauces had more flavor than most Chinese restaurants. The service was top notch as well. Definitely think if you're in their area and have a craving for good basic Chinese food you should stop and give them a try. read more

Food looks and taste fresh during lunch hour. They have sushi but plain ones. Prepared foods are not oily and salty or spicy. If you want those you can do the cook to order food bar and season to taste. Desert bar have good mix of fruits and sweets to tempt your tummy. Drinks comes with the meal but refills are not as fast during lunch rush. Clean and well lit dining rooms. What more can you ask for? read more
