Once you walk in, you're transported to a Chinese buffet and it's pretty cool inside. The ambiance is great and the service was amazing. Unfortunately, the food was subpar, but I guess you get what you pay for right? Sushi was ok, my favorite was the chow mien noodles, lots of things were non edible. Unfortunately the teriyaki chicken wasn't good and I couldn't eat it. I went on a Wednesday for the lunch service and it wasn't busy. The price was 12.99 without a soda. The inside is really dated but clean. The trays weren't filled to the brim to compensate for not being busy. I've never been here although I've been to the sister buffet in Nampa with the same name. The Nampa location has better sushi and larger variety to choose from. It would be fair to compare this place to the other buffet down the street on Fairview. They are different because the one down the street offers chicken feet and sauteed eggplants. The sushi here and down the street are very similar, lots of cream cheese and imitation crab meat. The service is good, they come around while you're getting more food. The buffet down the street only offers hibachi on the weekends whereas this place is daily. I didn't try the hibachi, so I can't give you my opinion. In conclusion, not my favorite place. I would drive further to Nampa or go down the street. read more

The food is very bad, the sushi is boring, even the wasabi is mild. We went for lunch and there wasn't one thing I could recommend. The food was bland and not even warm. The only thing I recommend is the Blue Bunny ice cream at the back of the buffet If you want a decent Chinese buffet go to China Buffet on Five Mile/Fairview. They have much more variety and treat their customers as valued. City Buffet acts like you're bugging them when you ask for beverage refill. Great food and great service. We went for dinner and really enjoyed the endless crab legs the most. Delicious and large portions. All their food was really good and served hot and fresh. They have sign posted to were mask when getting food but the practice is NOT enforced. I overheard wait staff tell a customer it wasn't necessary. Several customers were sneezing and coughing. My wife and I treated our daughter and granddaughter to this very fine restaurant! We all knew the reputation of this restaurant and the delicious food. We also knew that the service was going to be top-notch because our table worker was Anna. If you're into the sea food aspect of odd temperatures and questionable sushi this isn't the review for you, but in terms of a general sauced chicken, mein and dumpling review I can say please don't waste your money. Haven't been there and years and now I'll never return, had no service, cleaning of the tables or taking plates, the refills are not free and none of that was aforementioned to us. The mein was squishy spaghetti noodles, the sauced chicken spread was all an unpleasant texture. The only tolerable thing was the rice so gold star for that. 50 dollars for two adults and two kids under 5. This is one of the best buffets in the area. My husband ended up eating 3 bowls of the egg drop soup, n I had the seafood soup..both were phenomenal. Being diabetic makes eating out extremely difficult, I was able to eat amazing sections and keep my blood sugars in reasonable levels. Lots of choices that are healthy. read more

Friendly and accommodating staff. Kim chee, broccoli, assorted sushi, vege seafood, sole fish and mochi balls the best. It is a wonderful variety except needs Wild caught seafood options.​​​​​ Lots of unhealthy desserts like cotton candy, gmo ice cream and cakes. Polite attentive people, wide variety vof selections including a Mongolian type grill. They have seemed to fix the temperature issues and there was something for almost everyone's heat tolerance... With a variety of ingredients to kick it up a notch or two. The one thing that my husband says could be improved is making sure the section is kept Fuller... I started with a bit of the egg drop soup which tasted like raw eggs and was barely edible. Next I had a small sampling of the sushi. Rather than having bright colors and a fresh look as it should, the selection looked dull, uninspired and not particularly interesting. The same can be said for the the taste. I did manage to find a few dishes which were pretty tasty. The best dish being the garlic string beans followed by the pepper chicken. I also had the beef with broccoli and a spare rib. Both of these dishes were average. All in all I couldn't find enough at this place to make it worth a return trip. read more

Possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had. This place is the closest thing you can get to human dog food. It's incredible to me that people actually ingest this food. It's too bad that Idaho does not rate restaurants with a A, B, C like California because this place would get a D for Dirty Disgusting Dog Food. We've been back a few times since our last visit, and service and food quality have steadily declined. They aren't very attentive unless they are trying to rush you out the door. We don't eat a lot even though we're at a buffet but we do prefer taking the time to chew our food before swallowing. I know, how rude of us, right? No worries, City Buffet. Keep it up and you won't have to worry about clearing room for incoming customers. There will be plenty of empty seats to fill. I was nervous for the quality of food considering that the price was so low (lunch buffet on Sunday is $10). They advertised sushi, hibachi, seafood, etc. They did not disappoint! The food was actually great! The management was OUTSTANDING! When paying, I noticed my wallet was missing out of my purse. The manager assured us that she has a camera view on every table in the restaurant. She took the time to review the cameras for my table. They were so kind, helpful and having full sets of cameras as a restaurant is a rare plus. I will definitely be returning because the food was wonderful and the staff very exceptional. read more
