Treated me like absolute dog ****. Wasted my time. Mounted my tires wrong! Wouldn't listen to the 3 whole people explain what needed to be done! Actually asked me why no one else could balance my tires. I called a dozen places, had already been jerked around by another shop that wasted my time, and called this place ahead to time to make sure they could even do the job. Our van surprised us with a massive coolant leak during our vacation to the Black Hills last week. The guys at Great Western Tire fit us in same day to diagnose the issue, when multiple other shops quoted us days, or even weeks just to take a look at our van! Matt and his team diagnosed the ruptured heater hose, replaced it with a metal one (to avoid a repeat leak) and got us on our way in less than two hours. They were fast, friendly (gave us recommendations for lunch and activities with our kids while we waited for the repairs), and reasonably priced. Terrific service going out if there was to help. We are traveling through yet they worked us in for an oil change and to rotate/balance tires. While traveling from Massachusetts to Mt Rushmore I encountered problems with the tires on my travel trailer. Deciding to replace all four of them due to safety concerns I found Great Western Tire in Rapid City SD. After pulling in with no appointment I had four new tires and was back on the road in an hour and a half. The sales staff and technicians were extremely friendly and accommodating. We came into town on a vacation towing a travel trailer and our truck overheated. I called the local Ford dealer and the Ford dealer's truck division and because of the summer rush and Sturgis Motorcycle event coming up they both told me they were between 1 and 2 weeks out. We were only suppose to be in the area for two days! They gave me the referral to call Scott at Great Western Tires. He looked at our truck the very next afternoon! He made the determination of the overheating, fixed it and we were still right on schedule with our vacation. We rented a car from Casey's in the meantime and saw all the sights in the area. We then traveled 1,500 miles home over the next week and our truck ran just fine. My turning signal lights weren't working. They charged me about 100.00 dollars for a diagnostic. Then they said, " You need a new turn signal switch, buy one, we will put it in and that will fix it." So I bought this expensive part { 100.00 }, and brought it to them. They charged me about 200.00 dollars to put it in. Then a guy came out and said, " Well I guess we were wrong and that didn't fix it. If you give us another one hundred and something we'll do another diagnostic and try to find the real problem." So basically I spent 400.00 for them not to do what they said they could do! read more

Not sure about their tire services, but I do not recommend getting your car serviced or repaired here. Not only did they quote double the price of repair (compared to the service department at the local dealer for my car brand), but greatly exaggerated time requirements, presumably to justify the price. Save yourself the time, headache and expense and just go elsewhere. read more

I recently had new tires installed and brake work done(Brake work was recommend by the mechanic) at this Rapid City Location, the work done on my vehicle seems fine so far. It cost me just under a 1000.00 new tires and front brakes. I did not have any complaints other than I felt like they tried to sell me more than I needed (They pushed for several other things, I said no). Then when I returned to have a different vehicle serviced a week later for a simple muffler leak which required a new bolt and possibly a gasket. The front desk person acted like it was an inconvenience (He acted like I was wasting his time) and said he would need to check how busy the mechanics are to see if they could look at it (It was 07:30 am, no problem before when I needed tires). Then he answered the phone and ignored me for the next 5 mins before I left. From this point on I will take my vehicles else where, I went to Tire Tech in Rapid City and once again they treated me great and treated me fair! read more

They do not honor Goodyear warranty on tires they are "independently owned" and choose not to participate

Great Western Tire in downtown Rapid City is very deceiving in their phone quotes for service. In a recent service quote for A/C service, they quoted approximately $85 for evac and recharge. Much to my dismay, upon completion (without a prior phone call) they charged me $180 for a very basic A/C evac and recharge. Scott, the service manager was not helpful or forthcoming in the pre or post work quote. When I called for a quote to add some 134a to my Land Rover, he quoted $85 for "evac and recharge". Upon completion, the bill was $180+, for only what I was initially quoted $85 for. I know from experience, that the freon is vac'ed out, filtered and recycled. I get it. Add some dye, check for leaks, put the 134a back in. Charge for "machine time", but be upfront about it. Tell me about the additional charges. I encourage future customers to know exactly what you are in for. As for me and those I know, we will not be back to Great Western Tire for anything-even "free tire air". read more

The service at this business is absolutely terrible. My husband and I each took in our respective vehicles one week apart to have our tires rotated. The tires were all purchased at Great Western Tire to the tune of nearly $2,000. We both told the service guys at the counter that we only wanted a tire rotation. My experience there took 1 hour and 40 mins with a lecture on what all needed to be done with my car, when all I requested was a tire rotation. I was even told that my brakes might need to be replaced soon even though they had just been replaced less than 4 months ago!! When confronted with that, the employee quickly back tracked on his statement. When my husband was there, the service guy at the counter was extremely rude after my husband complained of waiting for 3 hours!!! They told him they needed to inspect the entire vehicle, along with the fact that it's tourist season, and those were the reasons it took so long. The woman waiting with my husband was there for 30 mins - and you guessed it - she was having her tires rotated!! When my husband confronted "Mike", there was no apology, and an invitation to take our business elsewhere. Don't worry Mike - we will. And we'll be sure to pass on our experiences at your facility. My only hope is that your manager will see this review. read more
