My pet needed care, but not immediately, and I respected the professionalism, quick actions, and thoughtfulness I saw from every person at GSIVS. I fully understood the reason I needed to wait until a break in what I hope was an unusually challenging evening for the staff and the dog community of Staten Island. My cat was given excellent care, and I appreciated Dr. Catherine Walsh's thoroughness and explanations. GSIVS provides an important service to Staten Island when a pet is in need of care and one's primary veterinarian is not available. Dr. Catherine Walsh was very caring. Our cat was stable but not eating or drinking for 24 hours so we brought her here.. Three days and $4,574.50 later (CHA-CHING! ) .. we decided to have her put down because we couldn't stand to see her suffer anymore. (By this time she was hardly breathing.) While under their care she got worse and worse and they kept charging us more and more. We had to put an end to it. ..Sadly we had to let our little fur baby go. We won't ever go back there again . I brought my cat here who was 3 years old. He was diagnosed with heart disease. The reason why I brought him in is because he went into heart failure and as a treatment they gave him lasix and oxygen to keep him comfortable. I was told that I needed to see a cardiologist. The cardiologist was only available on Thursday's. They tell me it's okay to bring max home until then and that I NEEDED to see the specialist. Saw the $1,000 specialist who told me my cat had 6-9 months to live and off the bat said well "it's severe" in the most obvious tone. We had no idea. He was also very insensitive and clearly rising to see the next patient. The next day, my cat goes into heart failure again. I rushed him to the hospital and he unfortunately declined so quickly that he passed once I brought him in. I know sometimes there's no way of knowing. However, I don't know how he DIDNT see the severity and tell me that it may be sooner than later. Nonetheless, as my maxie passed there and I was asked if I wanted to say goodbye- they brought him in with his eyes and mouth wide open and no blanket over him. It was the most traumatic experience I and my fiancé ever had with an animal and now all I see is that picture in my head. I will never go back to this hospital and never recommend them for this reason. There was no logical reason for them to present him like this and I am still furious. While battling grief as traumatic as it already was, I just have flashbacks of this moment because of them. I wish I brought him elsewhere where he would've been respected. The girl that helped us at the front was extremely kind, and was very transparent with how much it could cost on top of the surgery date availabilities. I took my 15-year-old yorkie/Maltese here because he was not eating and by day 3 I became very worried. His regular vet was not in and decided to take him here. Although, the front desk woman and Vet were very nice and gentle with my dog, without a diagnosis I was told to make his last few days comfortable and was given VERY little hope he would be okay. His blood work was normal so there was no diagnosis. The vet did give him anti-nausea medicine and an appetite stimulant which helped him to feel better. I was grateful for that. However, I left there thinking my dog was definitely going to die and he recovered fully and is back to being the most active, loving, 15 year old dog before this occurred. It cost 1,100 dollars for blood work and a quick exam. I know my dog is old, but I think without a diagnosis, he could have been a little more hopeful and there was no reason for me to have left feeling devastated. read more

I don't recommend this facility! The staff does not have compassion, is rude and inconsiderate. We recently took our dog there and we had a HORRIBLE experience. Our dog diabetic, with cushing's disease, was brought in with urinal blood and labored breathing, was overlooked for almost 2 1/2 hours and no one even took her vital signs. We finally left after 3 hours without seeing a doctor. The front desk staff is horrible. I emailed the owner of the facility and have yet to receive a response. Never again!!!! I had taken 2 of my cats here. In 2020, my oldest cat, she was 13, started having a lot of respiratory distress, so my regular vet at the time, who treated Skye for her diabetes and congestive heart failure, told me to take her immediately to GSIV following a treatment for pleural effusions, because her oxygen levels were low. So I took her there and they gave her the O2 therapy for a few hours. They explained everything to me and gave me the option to keep her there overnight. I knew we were at the end so I opted to take her home for a last night with her family (euthanasia was a strong consideration, but she passed the following morning with her family). They were kind and sympathetic during this insanely difficult time. Then the following year, my youngest boy (at the time), Aladdin, had been experiencing difficulty with urination for a couple of days. He appeared to be straining and not passing any urine, and was also starting to look a bit lethargic. I assumed it was a UTI so I took him right in, in the event it was a blockage, which can be extremely dangerous for our pets. After she did the exam, I was told no UTI, and that it's not as common as we think in pets. He has something called lower urinary tract syndrome, and the solution was changing his diet to an RX food. They gave me several weeks worth of food and filled my Rx very quickly with chewy. read more

I brought my cat here some time back now looking back at it it was the worse decision possible they told us so many times that he was good even though you could clearly tell something was wrong with him kept saying we don't know what's wrong with him he's probably got a stomach ache or something. To be honest everyone looked unbothered lazy and unprofessional like they had something better to do then they job. we brought our baby cat at least 3 times everyday he seemed weaker and didn't want to eat in the end they told us he was sick and they had medication for him but it was to strong and it was a risk to give it to him or surgery we couldn't afford the surgery so we gave him the medicine and the next day he didn't even want to move or eat at allllll So we returned and they said they didn't know what to do and our only option was to go home or put him down. I arrived with my cat in distress to what is supposed to be Emergency Services and sat for 3hrs and Never saw a doctor! They sat me in a room and never provided updates as to when I would receive care for my fur baby . Please note my cat was exhibiting symptoms of a seizure and I guess she wasn't a priority. After 3 hrs, her symptoms subsided and left! I took her home and watched over her and found a vet to look at her. What's worse is I am new to the area and was hoping for help in an unfamiliar place. I wasn't asking for a random person to help, I requested for people to do their job! To have one doctor onsite and one that didn't show at their start time is ridiculous! If your fur baby is in need of emergency services... this is not the place for you. They will prioritize your baby depending on what they deem important and no pet parent wants to hear their baby is not a priority especially while they're in pain. read more

We couldn't be happier with the very nice staff and great service he received. It truly was a frightening experience, as our little guy suddenly was unable to walk. Dr. Alexandra Pasaturo was gentle and compassionate. She diagnosed him with a neurological condition. With proper medication, we are delighted to say he is doing fabulous. This was not our dog's usual vet, but we had to take him there to be euthanized yesterday. Every single staff member we encountered was beyond kind and compassionate. The tech that brought him back to us after the catheter was placed in was so gentle with him and he was placed on a soft blanket so we could hold him comfortably. Dr. Pasatora was comforting and caring. We were able to spend a lot of time with him alone after to say our final goodbyes. The tech who came to retrieve his body from us was gentle and respectful and again, compassionate. They give you a paw impression for free. Saying goodbye to any pet is so heart wrenching, but this place made the experience the best we could possibly ask for. Believe all the horror stories! My dog was attacked by 2 dogs. Being the only ER get in Staten Island, I had no choice, but to rush her there. Her bites were so bad didn't think she would make it. The vet came in and said to properly care for her, it would cost thousands for her to be stitched and taken care of properly. I did not have that, nor thought stitches should be so much. I had to say I could not afford it. I still walked out paying $431. My dogs was not even cleaned! I brought her to my vet the following day where they charged $517 for everything. I am 6.5 months pregnant, Great SI Vet literally told me that she would not recover and my best bet was to try putting her in the shower 3x a day and hope it heals. Sorry for the graphic pictures, but for $431 you would think they would at least clean the wounds. The first few are how they sent her home, the next are from my vet who cleaned and took care of them properly. It's sickening they would let an animal die because you don't have thousands for treatment. Never, ever, ever go here! This is my first and probably only negative review I'll ever leave, but as an animal lover, I get compelled to. read more

I went to this establishment as a last resort because my normal vet was on vacation. Never again !! When I called and explained that my 15yo dog was bleeding from the anus they told me to come right in. Then left me in the waiting room with my dog stressing out and crying for over 2 1/2 hours. All while letting other walk ins go ahead of me. Very unprofessional place and unnecessary torment of my dog. I will definitely go to Red Bank next time. They wouldn't even give me water for him till I saw the Dr When I questioned this they stated they were very busy. Abysmal service. I took my dog because he was vomiting all his food up for days, and needed to be checked IMMEDIATELY. We were told to wait an hour, which is fine, but we waited 2 hours, and then were told we would have to wait "a couple more hours." When we raised concern, the staff was incredibly rude. I understand they have emergency patients who needed to be rushed in, but my dog is just as important, and it ALSO CRITICAL. I brought my cat in for an emergency, (mom accidentally caught his tail in the front door) grated it was a bleeding with a laceration however the tip of the tail was still fully functional. The doctor told me the best thing to do is chop the whole tail off for about $1,600 total. A simple search on tail amputations online is maybe 1/5 of the price they were asking for. ($300) I got the doctor to come down to 800 (amazing if I didn't say anything they would have taken $1,600 from any willing and unknowing pet owner) Two Weeks later I return to get his stitches removed and it's not fully healed. So now they tell me I need to give him bandages on the tail and two shots for the pain, another $200 out of pocket and I have to come back again to change the bandages. This is my third time here, I called before hand and they said come. I have been waiting in the parking lot for over an hour. My cat is stressed, I am stressed. I really don't think I needed to cut my cats tail off at all. This is not a place where you care about pets, it feels more like a scam on how to shake loving pet owners into paying hundreds and in my case thousands. Also how do you let your patients wait outside in the parking lot for over an hour, going on two without any heads up ? Such a shame . This place could be great but they seem very overwhelmed. The drs are straight out of vet school and they don't seem to be compassionate to dog owners. I brought my dog here a few times. First experience was great when the opened but now they just are nasty. Drs don't call back. We recently had an emergency and they made us wait 1.5 hours in lot before they saw our dog , treated him , took our money (which was substantial) , gave us our dog back , gave very brief oral discharge instructions- nothing written . They said they would email them because they were too busy with other dog emergencies. They emailed the written instructions to me over 6 hours after I left, and made a mistake on the medications. My advice -- GO ELSEWHERE. THEY WANT YOUR MONEY & DONT GIVE A POOP ABOUT WORRIED DOG OWNERS. Too bad it's a nice facility. They need better customer service . read more

Brought our 2 year old pit here in an emergency around 9pm today, 9/9/2020, after she ran into a horribly placed metal signpost while playing fetch. All went fine with her procedure-- she was put under anesthesia and given 3-5 stitches for a small cut on her leg--until we picked her up (1:20AM) and got home.. We noticed they left the IV in her damn arm!!!! Gave them a call and they said to bring her back in ASAP. This poor dog had to endure not only one trip home, in pain and confused, but 2 TRIPS to bring her back for the removal of the IV due to their negligence. Finally home at 2:20AM. Horrible horrible horrible experience, the poor thing was moaning and so uncomfortable the whole 15 minutes there & back. The female vet assistant that brought my dog out both times was rudely downplaying my dog's moaning in pain and my general concern for my dog, as we have never had an emergency like this. The vet assistant also was not very thorough with explaining, well... anything! Will never go back here or recommend going here to any pet owners, even in an emergency. Thankful my baby is okay after all her suffering & after $600. Let's see how her follow up visit goes & what they have to say on the phone in the morning. read more
