I can't thank the team at this emergency vet enough. This was my first real pet emergency, and I was in full panic mode running out of the house with my dog. I was originally sent to a different location, but since the doctor on duty was in surgery, I ended up coming to the 2nd Ave location, and honestly, I'm so glad I did. The staff made all the difference on this visit. The girl at the front desk was so kind, patient, and understanding, which was exactly what I needed in that moment. The receptionist employee was very empathetic and helped me out so much. Codie, Dr. Kaela Toback, and Dr. Verna Serra were incredible too. You can just tell they truly care and are in this for the right reasons. They treated my dog with so much kindness and respect, and they also made sure I felt heard and reassured. I'm very grateful that this place was open when I needed it most. Having a team like this in such a stressful situation made all the difference. Thank you all so much for your kindhearted and above and beyond care for my pet. I'll never forget how much you helped us!

At around 1am this morning , my six month old Shih Tzu ingested a miniature KitKat. I was in complete panicmode! I called the veterinary emergency hospital located @ 1215 Second Ave. I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Rushing. She asked me a couple of questions regarding my fur baby. As well as address my concerns. Dr. Rushing put my mind at ease! Dr. Rushing is a true GEM!

Staff is caring, loving and very attentive. The waiting room is incredible. I brought along my toddler and teen and they had incredible snacks and a play table, as well as fresh baked cookies and any coffee or hot chocolate you could imagine. The veterinarians and technicians and the reception desk truly care about animals and worked their hardest to make sure my English Mastiff was comfortable and happy. My 3 year old dog was limping with her nail falling off. They prescribed her pain and anxiety medicine since she is 125 lbs and was protective of her injury. The wonderful staff made it quick and she has been back to herself ever since. I was not charged a lot of money, and I left with a fresh baked cookie. While I hope I never need their services again, I know if I do I will most definitely return to VEG in Carle Place.

On Sunday evening, I took my senior Chihuahua to VEG Chelsea. A vet tech quickly took her weight and temperature but did not ask why we were there or take any other history. We were placed in a room in the back with a window to the main area where I could see lots of staff members. After 45 minutes of waiting with no updates or anyone checking on my dog, I went out to ask if they might have an estimate of when the vet might see us and was told a few minutes, but this proved not to be true and I watched that vet leave for the evening. Around the two-hour mark, I heard a staff member tell the new vet that everyone was triaged. I was surprised because no one had asked what brought us to the ER. I spoke with a staff member in the hallway and explained that we'd been waiting for two hours with no one taking my dog's history or checking on her, and I told her that I was disappointed by the lack of communication. Before we could discuss it, another staff member interrupted and told me that my dog's temperature and weight were the triage and she asked what I expected since one veterinarian had just left and another had just arrived. I understand that ERs have to prioritize certain patients, and I was not upset about waiting. However, I felt dismissed when I waited for two hours with no one providing us updates or checking on my dog. A little bit of communication would have gone a long way. I found the staff member's response to my concerns very condescending, and so my dog and I left. For those reasons, I would not recommend this ER and next time will visit one of the many others available in our city.

Update July 26: We ended up at BluePearl again, this time because Ruben's breathing rate was…read moreunusually high. He had recently stopped taking his heart medication after his cardiologist determined that his heart condition had resolved. Once again, the staff quickly took him back and stabilized him. Then began the wait. BluePearl appears to triage patients based on urgency, and they were not noticeably but apparently busy that day. As a result, Ruben spent much of the day in an oxygenated cage, from about 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Thankfully, I did not have to stay there the entire time. In the end, the diagnosis was somewhat different from what we initially expected. Ruben does not have early congestive heart failure, as was suggested by the remote radiologist's preliminary interpretation. However, the team did take seriously the possibility of asthma, which had been raised by my cardiologist over the phone. I'm reducing my rating by half a star, bringing it to 4.5 stars. Overall, I believe Ruben received excellent care. The veterinarian listened carefully to my concerns about sedation and treated him thoughtfully. My main concern is staffing. It appeared that there was only one very busy veterinarian on duty, and she was unable to interpret the X-rays herself. As a result, several hours passed before the imaging could be completed, and then additional time was needed to obtain a reading from an off-site radiologist. I understand that Ruben was stable and that other patients may have required more urgent attention. Still, from my perspective, increased staffing might have allowed him to be evaluated sooner. Ruben is a good patient, but he does not enjoy veterinary visits, and spending nearly the entire day there was stressful for both of us. That said, BluePearl remains my first choice for emergency veterinary care. The staff are compassionate, and I continue to trust them when Ruben needs urgent treatment.

St. James, my 9-year-old chihuahua, died within three hours of a blood transfusion at BluePearl…read more When he was discharged to me, he was acting strangely and struggling to breathe. I showed the nurse right away and was told it could be an initial transfusion reaction. I was terrified and pleaded for help, but was told all tests had been completed and he was still sent home. The doctor never spoke to me. Over the next three hours, I watched him deteriorate -- breathing heavily, confused, and clearly in distress -- while I was completely powerless to help him in his time of need. No words can capture how painful and traumatic it was to witness. St. James lived such a beautiful, joyful life, and he deserved comfort and dignity at the end -- not this. We are left completely heartbroken and still without answers as to what caused his death.

My cat got a PU surgery and cystotomy. Regardless my cat will have to wear a cone for a couple of weeks baseline. This "little mistake" is actually huge and you have to advocate for your animal because they have way too much going on and the people talking to me are not the people working on my pet. The vet Sienna Perro that initially helped with the treatment plan was very emotionally led and would continuously interrupt and get flustered when asked important questions, her responses were like talking to ChatGPT. I understand a lot of the time there cannot be a direct answer but the way she delivered information was egregious- basically along the lines of "your cat could be dying but your cat could also not be dying, this could never happen again or this could happen again, this could help but this could also not help, it could be stress or it could not be stress at all- like great thanks that's not helpful or insightful at all Lastly the bill came out to $10k and they gave my baby back covered in piss and smelling absolutely horrible. In the past we went ton other emergency vets and unfortunately it was always a long wait, you were away from your dog the entire time, and they wouldn't release your dog to you until after you paid. VEG is different than all those places. We were seen immediately and while they do have an open concept ER, they gave us a private room just in case. The nurse (Diana) and the vet (Dr. Schwartz) were all incredible. They took such good care of our dog and us! They allow you to be with your pet during X-rays which I found amazing. No paying first then waiting for your pet to be discharged. You're as hands on as you're comfortable being. Amazing place.

What is there to say besides don't trust this place with your pet, your time or your money…read more To say we had a negative experience would at this point be an understatement. The behavior this practice has exhibited has been avoidant, evasive and disappointing. I called distressed after my dog was having complications healing from surgery after a lipoma removal. We arrived on a busy Sunday and were taken at the end of a triage. During our time there I voiced to MULTIPLE techs that my dog was bleeding through his gauze. 2/3 responses were a deadpan stare and the words "ok". It took 3 times of me asking/ pleading for someone to listen to me. Even then I was armed with loose gauze and a wee wee pad. When we were finally seen I was so relieved i let this all fall away. I was so happy my pet was taken care of I went home following their orders and protocol. The next day I realized all the sutures at the site had fallen out and we were back at square one after spending hundreds of dollars. Naturally I was upset and placed a call to the location. I was placed on an infinite hold 3 times with no answer until i called from my friend's phone to which they picked up immediately. I have been calling every day since Monday with not a single person giving me a call back or without any financial compensation for the negligent job they did. I have given them since Monday to give me a call back and fix this. I've called every day without a call back. So if you don't care about your pets or spending unnecessary money this is the place for you!

This place, and the caring people in it, made a very difficult day more bearable…read more I came in knowing that I was going to have to put my almost sixteen year old cat down, and as we pet parents know, Sidney was more than a cat to me - he was family. He got me through some REALLY tough times over the past ten years, and honestly I'm not sure how I would have gotten through the pandemic without him. So knowing his time with me was coming to a close, I left it in his hands to tell me when it was time to go. And, unfortunately, that was the day he woke up and his eyes said simply, "Enough." The staff was attentive and kind from the jump. An examination revealed the options, but it was obvious that whatever was happening was quite serious - and I was given a breakdown of potential next steps. Of course with Sid's age, putting him down was also an option, and I already knew this is what we were going with. I did not receive any pressure to run any preliminary tests, procedures, or additional costs. I was simply told what the options were, and provided with an honest opinion of what the outcomes could be. And all options sucked. BUT it was obvious that the people helping me genuinely cared, and it made the heartbreak just a tiny bit easier. I had never had to do this before and I came in with Sid alone, so the vet guided me through what we were doing, what was next, and gave me ample time in between to say goodbye. Again, no real way to make these things less painful, but there was something in the attention and care I was receiving that made me feel like I wasn't going through it alone. The staff was going through it with me. I also received a beautiful card in the mail from them afterwards, hand-signed with a personal message from each - and this small gesture brought such warmth to my heart that I felt I had to share it. Highly recommend this place.

I spent 3+ hours there but it didn't feel like it. I was able to be by his side the entire time, there was hydration and snacks, and I was comfortable. I feel like every nurse checked in with us at least once. Even my cat felt chill enough after a while to curl up and nap in his large cage (they were quite busy and all rooms were taken). As off Feb '25 it was $200 for just the most basic care, for what it's worth, and in our situation it was very much worth it. They sent everything to my usual vet, including recommended follow up testing. Flippin' awesome and so helpful for moving forward after a terrible Sunday!
