I can't thank the team at this emergency vet enough. This was my first real pet emergency, and I was in full panic mode running out of the house with my dog. I was originally sent to a different location, but since the doctor on duty was in surgery, I ended up coming to the 2nd Ave location, and honestly, I'm so glad I did. The staff made all the difference on this visit. The girl at the front desk was so kind, patient, and understanding, which was exactly what I needed in that moment. The receptionist employee was very empathetic and helped me out so much. Codie, Dr. Kaela Toback, and Dr. Verna Serra were incredible too. You can just tell they truly care and are in this for the right reasons. They treated my dog with so much kindness and respect, and they also made sure I felt heard and reassured. I'm very grateful that this place was open when I needed it most. Having a team like this in such a stressful situation made all the difference. To have the entire staff be so caring, attending, comforting, and professional, is truly a one in a million situation. When I came in with an emergency with my little pup, Dr. Diego Milano kept a clear mind, an empathetic attitude, and a compassionate heart. He took such good care of my boy, my gratitude is too much to vocalize. once we were checked in to our room, he checked on my baby every 10-15 minutes, made sure both of us were ok, and stayed on top of our situation even though I heard multiple critical situations happening outside. He balanced everything so well and i really take my hat off to him. he was amazing. As for the overnight nurse, Caroline, I'm at a loss for words for how golden her heart is. She took such good care of both me and my baby. She understood the anxiety an owner feels going through this situation and went out of her way to ensure i was doing good too. she checked on my baby every 10 minutes. any time i needed to step away to use the bathroom, she stayed with my baby. she was so gentle and kind with him. you can tell shes doing her job out of passion and care. Shes one of a kind and truly a gem. I could cry just writing about the care she provided for us. When the shift changed to the daytime staff, I was a little worried about the transition and sad to see Caroline and Dr. Milano go. I was worried about who was going to take care of us now because of the genuine top tier care we had received, how could you match that? but. they did. Dr. Andre and nurse Christina were our doctor and nurse after the shift change. They were just as kind, just as compassionate, just as professional, and just as empathetic. They made the night to day transition so smooth. They were completely filled in, treated me with just as much respect and empathy, and had me crying tears of joy as I left this hospital. I can't speak enough kind words for this facility and the entire staff. Even when my nurse or doctor were helping other patients, other nurses made themselves readily available and willing to help me and my baby and make us feel comfortable and ok. This was truly one of the hardest nights of my entire life but this facility and the staff working here made it manageable. November 9th, 2025, I took my 4-pound teacup Pomeranian out for air. we walked a little ways around the block. As we were proceeding to our building, a stray dog ran up from behind us. He/ She grabbed Belle like she was a chew toy. I screamed a man came out to help me retrieve my dog. she was limp and just breathing heavy. I took here to Veg ER. Everyone was so good to her. They were so gentle with her. Dr Bailey was amazing along with the rest of the staff. I was also observing how they were treating the other animals as well. They were all amazing I was so at ease because of it. I went in there hysterical crying. They gave me a box of tissues and said, we will take care of the little one. I really felt the sincerity. My dog got pancreatitis just before this record snow storm here in NYC. We were referred to VEG and we took our boy across town to their facility. They took him in performed appropriate tests and gave us the most informed diagnosis I may have ever received. I'm a retired PT so I've had some experience with diagnostics. You gather the best information you can and make an informed assessment which they did in a most professional and compassionate manner. The Vet was completely forthcoming about every aspect of her reasoning and her expertise was in depth. They put him on a catheter etc and prescribe an appropriate regimen. He had to stay overnight and we were invited to return to visit whenever we were able. Note there were couches and chairs and a lot was offered to make us and our miserable dog comfortable. The entire staff was open and available for our comfort and it was clear that this was their routine. We came back the following day and sat with our dog for hours consulting with the Vet periodically. I'm extremely impressed with the level of care provided by VEG and I heartily recommend their services. I also have to mention how well they managed a difficult client whose behavior was extremely inappropriate. These folks are pros. Use them. You will be glad you did. read more

They are terrible at diagnosing cases and treating the pets. They did nothing for my dog except pump her with fluids. The next day she was very sick but a few days at Animal Medical Center, she was properly treated and well again. I know many people who walked out in tears after spending hours here and then being told the pet was okay. But, the pets were not fine. Once getting appointments at the regular vets, they are able to treat the pets properly. Be careful about reviews on yelp that are not verified. In this case, why would they ever make you write a review that has to have a minimum number of words of 80? This would discourage people from writing a review. read more

This is hands down the most professional, and caring emergency vet clinic. Our regular vet recommended we come here for our dog's pancreatitis. From the minute we walked in, until we left, every single person was at the top of their game. When you're dealing with your beloved pup you want to know the people you are dealing with are skilled and truly care. Plus, as a pet parent you are permitted to stay with your pet there at anytime. This is a special place. We even observed them deal with an unruly client with grace and patience. I can't recommend it enough. read more

I have had two different pet emergencies in which I've brought my dog, Poppy to VEG. The first she had an infected paw from an insect bite and they did such an amazing job taking care of her and the more recent one, my dog had eaten 120 probiotics and then couldn't walk or stand. It was an extremely scary situation (for both me and Poppy) and I had no doubt that VEG would be able to make my Poppy better. Dr Serra is such an empathetic and knowledgeable vet, who did an excellent job making my very anxious dog feel as comfortable as possible. They let me stay with her all day, as we were there for almost 12 hours, and continuously checked on Poppy's progress and provided updates on her various test results. Ultimately, poppy had a full recovery. I'm so grateful to have a trusted emergency vet in the area like VEG!! read more

Staff is caring, loving and very attentive. The waiting room is incredible. I brought along my toddler and teen and they had incredible snacks and a play table, as well as fresh baked cookies and any coffee or hot chocolate you could imagine. The veterinarians and technicians and the reception desk truly care about animals and worked their hardest to make sure my English Mastiff was comfortable and happy. My 3 year old dog was limping with her nail falling off. They prescribed her pain and anxiety medicine since she is 125 lbs and was protective of her injury. The wonderful staff made it quick and she has been back to herself ever since. I was not charged a lot of money, and I left with a fresh baked cookie. While I hope I never need their services again, I know if I do I will most definitely return to VEG in Carle Place. read more

He was seen right away. Food poisoning? Ate a bug? Who knows. Wonderful attentive vet (in the evening) and we were on our way home.... Only to go back days later (again my vet franchise has no availability - a girl has to work - I cannot just get in an uber to Williamsburg for the only appointment available). Again a lovely vet took care of my guy - fluids and an anti nausea drug.... Later that week we did get in to our vet... but VEG once again comes through in the clutch. These people are HEROS. They work overnight, long hours making sure our fur balls are safe and taken care of. My pup got sick and from the minute I called them they offered me options. I decided to bring him in anyway, we are here now getting such great care. They are both consoling me and my pup. I feel safe here, heard and protected. Very quick to check us in. Wait to see a vet wasn't very long, however after we paid, we waited about 40-minutes to get our meds. It seemed odd that we did all the waiting at the end. To walk in the door, you're charged $175. Then additional services or costs are added on. My guy needed antibiotic cream, which brought me up to $228. While I would have preferred to go to a vet, no office would see us without an appointment. I called everywhere! If you're not established with a vet, or live outside nyc, you'll have to come to an ER. The two other ER had terrible reviews so I am glad I found this place. The vet was very kind and I didn't feel rushed. The nurses also seemed to go above and beyond. Superb customer service. read more

I must tell you I have never experience such a caring and compassionate team as this place. This is the second time we have come here the first time we brought in a cat who was in the street having seizures. We asked them to call to let us know how the cat was doing and they did call they had to put him to sleep. We came in last night with our cat Shadow who was seen right away. Unfortunately our cat of 12 years had to be put to sleep and lord knows it was so emotional but I must say everyone was so compassionate not only to us but to Shadow as well which meant a lot to us. The vet and staff were informative and compassionate. They know you are in a stressful situation when you bring your pet into an emergency room. They could not have been nicer in helping me through it. Tomorrow, I will take her to her regular vet, but the emergency care was spectacular. They were accommodating in case we needed to spend the night. They provided me with blankets and a place to lie down in a private room. One last comment. They were upfront about costs. Went to VEG on the Upper East Side. Their care was wonderful. Their kindness and attention made me cry at the end of our visit. So grateful for how they took care of us. It's always stressful when your pet is sick. From the moment I called them I felt like we were in good hands. They picked up the phone and answered quickly, listened to all my questions and immediately gave me directions on where to go and what to expect when I came in. Then as soon as we got there we were seen by the vet within 5 mins. Dr. Chan was so patient with all of our questions and even did the heart ultrasound where we were sitting, so our our pet, Moose, could remain comfortable. The other vet kept checking on us and even brought me coffee. We feel very lucky to have stumbled into this place and have reassurance that we have excellent care here for if/when we need. My partner and I had a terrible experience seeking treatment for our ferret, with Dr. Rushing, who has limited professional skill, poor judgment, and compromised empathy for animals, and the support staff on duty on 12/13/2024 at the Upper East Side location. It's very difficult to find emergency care for exotics and we generally have positive experiences at other VEG locations, but this experience was a nightmare and fell below the standards that VEG set for themselves. We understand and appreciate that VEG UES is building an exotics team, but VEG should've and could've been more selective in recruiting exotics vet (how could you let someone who just graduated from vet school for three years handle emergencies on her own - but as we will explain later, it's not only her lack of professional skills, but also her complete lack of empathy). Three stars because Dr. Cisneros is awesome (we had Dr. Cisneros for a prior emergency visit at VEG UES. Sorry Dr. Cisneros we're providing honest feedback and not trying to foster colleague hostilities). Our senior ferret had several chronic health conditions, all of which we knew of and treated with medication. One evening he was in a lot of pain and struggling to breathe, so we called around to see who was willing and able to treat an exotic patient. When we explained our ferret's medical condition to Dr. Rushing, she listened half-heartedly and showed very little sympathy or empathy during the treatment. Dr. Rushing recommended a series of expensive diagnostic tests, we asked her what else we would know from the test results other than what we already knew. Dr. Rushing said she doesn't know before the results come out. We trusted her and proceeded with the tests - Dr. Rushing literally found nothing that we don't know. She also couldn't find out why our ferret suddenly breathed hard after all the expensive tests. She further recommended CT, on top of the ultrasound and X-ray that we already received. Meanwhile, nothing was being done to alleviate our pet's suffering. He was dehydrated, and we wanted to feed him water. The staff suggested not to feed him water because "He won't drink if he doesn't want to." (How do you know our ferret doesn't want to drink if you don't provide him water??) Dr. Rushing agreed not to feed him water and would recommend IV instead. This sounded really bizarre to us, so we sought other professional opinions, which confirmed our suspicion - it's better our ferret drinks by himself, administrating IV would accelerate his heart failure, which could be potentially fatal. Again, we really don't think Dr. Rushing paid any attention while we explained our ferret's medical history - Dr. Rushing only cared about how to extract as high a bill from a customer as possible. Dr. Rushing also had the staff draw four or five small tubes of blood from our ferret for testing - when we transferred to VEG Williamsburg later, Dr. Turturro only pinched our ferrets a few drops of blood for testing. I can't image how much our ferret suffered from Dr. Rushing's meaningless, painful, and excessive testing. When speaking to us, Dr. Rushing pulled up a chair. It may seem small, but it's written on the wall as one of VEG's guiding principles: we sit on the floor. We completely lost trust in Dr. Rushing and the staff to do what was best for our pet and decided to transfer him to another VEG where a doctor we trusted would be working that evening. Once we communicated the decision to transfer our ferret from VEG UES to VEG Williamsburg, there was a complete lack of interest in us or our pet from then on. Even though we were the only ones at VEG UES, it took forever to get our pet checked out. Staff sat around chatting and we had to press them to bandage our pets IV line so we could leave. The staff member promptly dropped the bandage and stepped on it before picking it up and using it anyway instead of getting a new one. Again - think about how traumatic it is for us, while our ferret had been suffering for hours at VEG UES, nothing had been done to alleviate his pain and Dr. Rushing only imposed more pain on our ferret with a series of unhelpful and expensive tests. Had we not decided to take him away from Dr. Rushing and the Upper East Side VEG, we may have put him to sleep wondering if we could have done or we might have more or brought him home without a plan and increased his suffering. And we have every reason to suspect that's what Dr. Rushing would suggest us to put him to sleep and charge us an additional euthanasia bill. While we appreciate VEG UES' building an exotics team, however, VEG UES should carefully evaluate and review its current vets and future candidates regarding their professional judgments and abilities, communication skills, competency in responding to emergencies, and most fundamentally, their love for animals and empathy for pet parents. read more

Had a great experience at the VEG Carle Place location. All of the staff was friendly, patient and helpful. Although my little fur baby didn't make it, the care and compassion shown to me by the staff was exceptional. Hopefully, I don't have to visit the emergency room anytime soon, but I would use VEG again and again to care for my fur babies. read more

I chose to bring my senior dog here for his passing. I wanted a place that didn't require an appointed time, where we could be anonymous, and where I rarely went neighborhood wise. Walking up to the door the woman from behind the front desk ran up to greet us (sorry I do not recall your name) and from that very first moment we were treated with great care. This is the hardest decision and they handled the experience professionally and frankly lovingly. We had the most wonderful experience today at VEG. It is never great having to go to the emergency vet with our pets, but the care and attention we received was beyond our expectations. They were so caring and kind to the animals, they encouraged us to be with our dog the whole time to make him feel safe. No carting the animals into some back rooms where they perform procedures out of sight. Everything was well explained and well done. So many vets and nurses available to attend to the patients. I was cutting my dog's hair around his face and accidentally cut the skin right below his eye. Obviously I panicked and went on yelp to see the nearest emergency clinic. They were so helpful and sent me a virtual check in. Once I completed the check in they sent a follow up text with directions which I feel is really helpful when you're not in the best state of mind. When I arrived they examined him immediately. They said the cut was very superficial and should heal on its own. They took his temperature and checked his heart rate and gave me signs to monitor if the cut gets irritated or worse. They sent us home WITHOUT CHARGING ME ANYTHING!! This could have easily cost a couple hundred dollars. The level of care they provided without passing any judgment was impressive alone. The team here is clearly sincere in what they do! read more

Amazing - the team working on 6/19/24 during the day was incredible. Came in around 4pm with my dog who we feared had a blockage. They immediately took us in and gave treatment with instructions to monitor. Once we got home our dog started to show mild signs of the symptoms we were instructed to monitor so we returned and quickly did x-rays and medication. Pup is now doing great. Dr Rushing and the team were excellent. This is my first review. Highly recommend. read more

My dog was bit by another dog and had a 2 in laceration on his ear . Very awful day but everyone at VEG was amazing kind and you could tell an animal person. They let me stay with him the whole time. Overall spent ~6 hrs at the vet . While I did wait maybe an hour I think it's understanble for an emergency room. They had a nice waiting area with snacks, beverages and WiFi. They were very upfront with cost and you pay the high end. Whatever they ended up not using/doing they calculated a refund for me at the end . Overall estimate was $1800-2000. Payed $1800 deposit before they started and got a $200 refund at the end. Can't stress enough how kind everyone was here. read more

Front desk staff was friendly but otherwise would not return here. Visited Sunday 12/1 and hade the unfortunate pleasure of meeting with Dr. Cheng. Not only was her "exam" all of 5 minutes but she was super dismissive, didn't offer to do x-rays on my dog who was limping and yelped in pain when we were ate home (which I told her), and talked down to me as if I was stupid. No way I paid nearly $300 for my dog to be seen and told "take these pain meds and you can go home" and my dog is limping even more and has to go to the vet tomorrow to actually figure out the problem. The entire visit didn't sit right with me and I hope others don't have as bad of an experience as I did. read more

Went to VEG in Carle Place. My dog had quickly lost the use of his back legs. The vet saw him and diagnosed a probably spinal injury/slipped disc (which I was expecting). The vet said that she could prescribe prednisone and something for pain relief that would likely not work and that she could give me a referral to a place that could preform a spinal surgery. Vet let me know that these surgeries are generally $15,000-$20,000. She let me know that if I decided I could not do a surgery I would have to understand that he would likely be paralyzed with loss of bowel and bladder control because there were no other treatment options. I got a call from my regular vet the next day when he got the report from VEG and told me to bring him right in because there were many things they could do short of surgery that could help him. After 2 weeks of physical and cold laser therapy as well as several other medications, he is walking and back to his healthy, playful self. I walked out of my appointment with VEG thinking I would have to allow my dog to live with paralyzed back legs and no bowel/bladder control or put him to sleep. I can't afford $20,000 for a surgery, but the $2000 I spent at my regular vet for 2 weeks of rehab got my dog back to health. I am very disappointed with my VEG experience. They put me through emotional hell, and it didn't need to happen. If I need an emergency vet again I will not be going back to VEG. read more
