They answered immediately and were waiting outside for us when we arrived. The entire staff was incredibly compassionate--not only with my dog, but with every animal and pet owner they were caring for. They were knowledgeable, attentive, and kept me informed every step of the way during a very stressful situation. We brought our Mocha to this ER because she became very ill the day before Christmas Eve ... they tended her to right away. I assumed care at the ER would be expensive as I'm an ER nurse myself so I know how pricing can be. Bloodwork, XR , IVF and o2 was about 2K . We ended up putting her to sleep by the end of the visit. Which I'm sure the bill was much higher . Dr Taylor was very kind and helped guided us when we were in a vulnerable situation. What I liked about this place - it is an open concept. You can see most of the are that is given and the family can be there with their pet the entire time. I appreciated the snacks and beverages , chairs and room to stay with my girl. My heart is broken as I write this because I miss her so much but it does comfort me that we were able to be there with her in her final moments. read more

VEG has always been a go to us when we have had emergencies for Tuesday. In the last month and a half they have been incredible for us as our Tuesday went through a short but difficult battle with cancer. We have been here no less 5 times in the last month and a half dealing with small complications because of her illness. Our last visit our Tuesday was failing, she had been throwing up for 3 days and hadn't been able to keep water or food down. We had already been here and they knew her history. I have to thank both Dr. Davis and Dr. Langan, who walked us through each visit gently and provided the best care to help Tuesday at the time. The last visit was long, we were waiting for at least 2 hours before we could be seen. Dr. Langan was our dr. which I appreciate because she had previously seen Tuesday. She has such a compassionate bedside manner and also explains things in a way that is easily understood. She did everything that night to help Tuesday, giving as much support as she could. When she got the bloodwork back she was very honest with us about what Tuesday was facing and and we made the decision to put her to sleep. I want to thank Dr. Langan and the staff for their support as we said goodbye, we were taken to a private room and had as much time as we needed and wanted with Tuesday to say goodbye. We felt very supported in that moment and Dr. Langan was extremely gentle and caring as she put Tuesday to sleep. This has been a devastating experience for us but it gives me some comfort knowing there were good people with us as we said goodbye. read more

A month ago we had a situation w/1 of our 17 year old kitties. He had stopped eating unexpectedly for several days & dose after dose of hairball remedy had not rectified the situation. So, @ wits end I put him in the cat carrier & my husband found his way to their new location. Tho the tests were expensive & the findings left us overwhelmed & confused; they kept him overnight & got him eating again-so we brought him home ; not sure what to expect. He was quite subdued for the 1st day, but we gave him the probiotics he was sent home w/for a week as recommended. He is eating consistently, hanging out in my lap to remind us when it's mealtime & pretty much back to his self a month later; by God's grace. So, thank you for giving us our Tommy back. I had to put my cat to sleep here because this emergency hospital -- the only one in my area -- quoted me almost six thousand dollars up front and refused to offer a lower-cost option. My male cat had a urinary blockage, which can be deadly if untreated, but I was never given any tiered plan or realistic alternative that could save his life without going into debt. I had my young daughter with me, and we were left with no real choice but to say goodbye. This place feels like it caters to upper-income clients, leaving people with fewer resources out of luck in an emergency. I understand emergency care is expensive, but every pet owner should at least be given a humane, affordable alternative before facing this kind of loss. read more

This is a follow up review to the initial one I posted approximately 2 weeks ago. I brought in my fur baby who was having a seizure or stroke, still not sure what she was experiencing. Their response to end of life care was less than ideal and made a distressing decision and experience worse. When I returned days later to pick up my dog's cremains, the manager, Lindsay, asked to speak with me. She listened attentively to my retelling of the incident. She gave no excuses for the poor performance of the staff, which is what the vet on duty tried to do that night, and apologized profusely, thanking me for the feedback. She asked what could they have done differently and was resolute in her promise to address the staff. It doesn't change the experience I endured but I left there believing I was heard and, going forward, patients would be treated with more empathy and compassion. Lindsay even ordered a name plate for the urn! Thank you Lindsay for everything! read more

Our 15 year lab mix was failing to eat and our regular doc could not fit her in so we brought her to this ER. The staff could not have been more caring and compassionate. Scans showed masses in her stomach and on her spleen which would have needed multiple surgeries. As she had a very hard time with a prior surgery, we ended up letting her go. It was heart breaking but the staff made her so comfortable and gave us all the time with her. They were not pushing anything on us but kept us informed and guided us with kindness. Now, a week later, we received the loveliest handwritten card by various docs and staff with their condolences, our pet's name drawn in color and just so sweet. Although incredibly sad, I am happy to have chosen this place to make our dog's passing as comfortable and loving as it could be. read more

If I could give this hospital zero stars, I absolutely would. They seem more focused on draining your wallet than actually helping. After finding something concerning in my dog's test results, instead of clearly explaining the situation, they pushed for more tests and charged an outrageous amount. They already had an idea of what was going on but chose to withhold that information and pressured me into scheduling yet another appointment. They left us in the dark, terrified that something was seriously wrong with our puppy. None of us--my parents, my fiancé, or I--could sleep that night from the stress and worry they caused. read more

I visited the Millburn NJ location on Sunday, March 15th with my dog who had her first seizure. She then had to come back after a second seizure. Utterly appalled at the level of care at this facility. The veterinarian was far more concerned about going over the potential bill and getting me to accept or decline potential treatments, many of which a regular person is not at all familiar with, rather than actually caring for the dog. While waiting for the techs to come over for a blood sample, a true emergency case came in of a dog dying, bleeding out and needing two blood transfusions. Due to the open floor plan design, families in the waiting area and beyond had a great view... Other animals started to become distressed as did my own dog. Two Vet Techs came over stating they would get a blood sample and insert a catheter.  After throwing a dirty mat onto the ground in front of where I was sitting (there are waiting area seats amongst the vet stations), one tech then climbed on top of my dog in order to "hold her down" for the blood sample. This stressed my dog out a lot and she began to squirm at which point the tech held her down even tighter with her body weight. After two failed attempts that were put down to "thick skin", they said they would come back in a few minutes and try a third time. At this point, there was no way I was going to allow a third attempt or an attempt at putting in a catheter while the tech sits on top of my dog. The attending Veterinarian's bedside manner was poor at best with a very clear focus on money and the potential bill. After initially agreeing to the care, I decided the standard of care that was being provided was so poor and that the vet-techs were clearly not up to the tasks that were being required of them - I needed to go elsewhere. I took my dog to AnimERge in Raritan NJ after leaving VEG ER. In stark contrast, the level of professionalism and standard of care was visibly much higher at AnimERge. read more

Although the outcome was not a good one we have no complaints about the attention and care given to our greyhound Fay when she had an emergency "neurological incident." Having seen her collapse we suspected a stroke so were prepared to say goodby which we did but not before she was examined by several techs and by Dr. Ben Harries. The only complaint we had was the location in Union, NJ, tight quarters on Rt. 22 but they are moving momentarily to another location in a short distance away. We had a great experience bringing our dog here. She ended up needing to see a specialist at another emergency hospital--the folks at VEG took her vitals, spoke to us for a few minutes, and made the recommendation for where to take her next, even printing out a sheet with the address and phone number and calling ahead to let them know we were coming. Given that VEG didn't treat her, we weren't charged. We would absolutely not hesitate to turn to VEG in the future, it felt like they just really cared about making sure our dog got what she needed first and foremost! read more

The VEG in Union provided us with excellent, prompt care! We called to say that my dog had a tick, they sent us a form to fill out and told us to come in. Once we arrived they took us right away, removed the tick, gave us a tick removal tool and told us to see our Vet in about 5-6 weeks for a Lyme test. They could not have been nicer and it is obvious that they are quite knowledgeable and well staffed! Highly recommended! read more

First, I believe they take in anyone who is vulnerable about their pets. Up-charge over $1000 and insist on x-rays for a raw paw. They simply could have stated this is not an emergency. But hey who sends $$$ away. Pros: They'll send you an online form to fill out. Guy who answered had a nice voice. Cons: Waited in my car for over 3 hrs Never seen indoors Gave a quote up to $1700 ( for a smelly raw paw) Walked away from waiting to be seen and we stated we want to see our vet. Without ever being examined and waiting in our car they wanted to charge $198. Why? Because they sent us an online link and we filled out the form. My husband walked out because there is just no way we are paying for an online form. Curiously, I made an appointment with a dentist and asked if I was being charged for the online form and had to explain why I asked. Asked my vet as well and they never heard of such a thing. Saw our vet on Monday and it cost us $133 for the visit, antibiotics, and shampoo. it's almost laughable. My dog can't see a stethoscope without going nuts (can be scary). However, for the 2nd time at this vet and seeing her anxious they had a way of calming her. She didn't need any x-rays, sedation, or calming pills. Just wait to see your primary vet unless there is imminent signs of impending death. Then go to VEG if that's the case. But know that you better have some $$$ because baby they will use every instrument they have and charge you for it. read more

I brought my cat in for an emergency on November 13 and the doctor correctly told me to take my cat to an emergency vet in Paramus to get an emergency blood transfusion. I was unsure about what was wrong with my cat because I did not trust the judgment of the vet that I was going to. I was able to get a second opinion, and that Vet told me to get my cat to an emergency vet immediately. This place had been recommended by a friend of mine and I am thankful for that because They treated my cat and hooked her up to an IV to give her the appropriate fluids in order to transport her to BluePearl to get the emergency blood transfusion. I really appreciate the professionalism and the way things were handled and that the doctor was right on top of the fact that my cat needed an emergency blood transfusion. read more

I brought my pup in because he was vomiting and had frequent diarrhea. The vet techs made me wait outside. After a few new patients walked in while I waited outside, I asked if my dog would be seen soon. The techs told me someone would be out to administer a parvo test shortly. Fifteen minutes later, a tech came out and swabbed my dog. She told me the test would take five minutes. Twenty minutes later I went to the inner door and asked if the result was in. I was told that I can't keep coming inside because parvo is highly infectious. This comment had others inside freaking out and demanding to know what my dog had. I told them he didn't have anything. I went outside and ten minutes later a tech came out and told me that my dog tested positive for parvo. I researched parvo at this point and was horrified. I waited ten minutes outside and had to ask again if my dog would be treated soon. The same tech told me that another critical patient arrived and I would have to wait. If my dog truly had parvo I couldn't wait indefinitely so I drove down to Garden State Veterinary Services. He tested negative for parvo, bloodwork was normal, x-rays were normal. While waiting in the parking lot I received an invoice for $150 for the parvo swab from VEG. read more

We cannot say enough good things about the Veteranarians and staff at the VEG Office, in Union, NJ. Our 14 year old dog, Kirby suddenly lost her ability to stand up & walk on a Friday morning. By late afternoon, we finally decided to bring her to the Vet, after our regular Vet's office was closing. Instead, we did the online Check In and brought her to VEG. The staff there was totally accommodating, and very compassionate. Dr. Z (aka Dr. Zeitler) helped us through the arduous process of diagnosing our precious family dog, and helping us to make the dreaded "end of life" decisions. Plus, they are open 24/7! And their prices were very reasonable, especially considering that we made the difficult decision to euthanize and cremate our pet. We were seen right away and work started immediately until a more urgent patient walked me (a small dog who ate a whole bar of dark chocolate! ) Even though we had to wait for them to work on the other dog it was good to see where their priorities lay because if my tiny dog ate a whole bar of dark chocolate you better believe I expect the same top treatment. The staff was sweet and patient with our dog even when he was fed up with the handling. He was given everything I remember I would do when I was a vet tech. I was quoted $7000.00 for "Bloat" surgery on my 8 yr old German Shepherd. GDV then was quoted $14,000.00 once I got the do inside on the table. I the told them that bait and switch doesn't work for me. I had my friend call who is a retired Atty who also had similar condition with his dog. I am now at GSVS. I have used them in the past a the quoted 9k. With a board verified vet. Dr B. B of VEG was rude and un professional. I promised her a blazing review. She threatened to call the Union Police. Had I not had a dog that needed emergency surgery I would have stayed. She whisked me a good night. All I have to say is this place needs veterinary medical board review. Maybe if she was not such a thief she could have studied and passed her boards. What a disgrace I'm attaching photos. I recommend anywhere on the planet other than VEG. I can't recommend them enough! My boyfriend and I brought in a very sick kitten we had found, and the staff met us at the door and immediately started working to stabilize her. Unfortunately, she was just too sick, but they were incredibly compassionate as they walked us through options and reassured us when we chose to let her go. The vet gave us options for intensive treatment, but she was also honest about little Roux's poor prognosis and never made us feel judged for deciding to help her cross the rainbow bridge.
