They have a covered area where a large crowd could gather and have a cookout, gas grills supplied. Each site has a raised fire pit and nice picnic table. These would be premium sites anywhere else. Nice staff. Very organized. They have a well stocked store with some good snacks too. For anyone wanting to attend church there is a non denominational Christian church on the property. Play areas for the kids with nice equipment. Putting greens. They sell LP. They have a dog wash. This place is in the top few percent of RV resorts. We have stayed all over the US and can't name but a few that are equal. If you want to stay nearby, definitely check this out.

Tip: You can not place rugs on the grass- each site is paved so there really is not a need for one. Note: Restaurants, grocery stores and local attractions are not open on Sunday. Anytime we asked a question none of the workers seemed to have an answer. the country store didn't have change so all day if you used cash they couldn't give you change back. way to make more money. when you check in they give you a menu well don't look forward to anything on it because once you go to order half the menu is crossed off as they don't have any. you can't talk to anyone at the front as they are closed after like 5 and no one at the store has a clue. people weren't as friendly as they are at other campgrounds I've been. sad because it could be a nice place.

Water is murky, but it makes sense because it's a lake. About four benches were taken from other people/families because a family refused to rent the pavilion. Had many water cases from Sam's Club (about 3 cases), a couple of different pop varieties from Sam's Club (4 cases of 12 packs), and a bunch of snacks? Same person left flags in the sand, Jordan. Not sure why, guy was by himself.

If you are used to a quiet, serene camping experience to visit with family, or get away from the…read morenoise of daily life, this is not the camp for you. The highway noise from I-76 only a few feet away is deafening at all hours of the day. And while they do have lots of nice amenities like the swimming pond, they really lose their luster when you have to yell just to have a conversation with people in a small circle. Also they also will nickel and dime you like you wouldn't believe.... A small tent on a site with a camper is not allowed we had to pay $110 to get another site. A card key to leave during the day is a $10 deposit. They only have 220V hookups, but for $5 you can have an adapter to 110V. Swimming on the slide will be fun, after you rent a life jacket for $5. Staying until noon on checkout day is allowed for a small fee of $25. There's definitely a pattern of getting every cent out of you that they can rather than making an enjoyable experience. They also have a list of rules that is as long as it is ridiculous. And they seriously enforce them. Children under 21 must be accompanied after 10pm (good luck telling your 20 year old they can't go to the bathroom by themselves after dark!). You aren't allowed to bring an axe to split wood. Carpets aren't allowed on the sites to preserve the "grass". (The sites are all just crushed asphalt that is not level and easy to roll an ankle on, I didn't see much grass.) and finally the site is limited to 2 adults and 2 children. So if you have 3 kids, I guess you have to get another site. I still can't believe people pay money for staying here. I guess them being right next to the highway much more convenient for them to pull off highway robbery.

I've been coming to Raccoon Creek State Park for over 50 years now, and it's one of those rare…read moreplaces that has somehow kept its magic across generations. My earliest memories from the 1970s are filled with the smell of charcoal smoke at the picnic groves and the freezing shock of jumping into the lake on hot summer afternoons. As a kid, that beach felt massive, and a simple day trip with packed lunches (the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches melted to goodness from the sun) and blankets spread out on the grass was the best part of summer with my sisters and mom. As I grew into adulthood, the way I used the park changed, but I never stopped going. I didn't always go swimming but instead would explore the miles of hiking trails. The best part, though, was getting to experience it all over again through my daughter's eyes. Taking her there when she was little and watching her hit the water and run around the playground were special times indeed. Raccoon Creek isn't just a park to me; it's a constant in my life. Over five decades later, facilities might get updated here and there, but the familiar feeling of the place hasn't changed a bit. It's serene, nostalgic, and always feels like coming home.

Raccoon state park offers campsites that are for people like me with disabilities. Everything is right where you would need it to be. Even the showers are designed to aid people with disabilities. Each campsite is very well maintained. They have their own water plant that the water comes from. There is electric and they are a pet friendly campsite. While it would be nice if they had a full hookup. This works just as well. The staff are absolutely great! Whatever you need, they are the ones who can get it for you. The landscape is amazing. If you would rather camp at a site with no tress you can do it there. I personally love the trees for the shading. This is definitely the place to camp. I look forward to making this our special campsite.

If you live in Pittsburgh or are just visiting the area, McConnells Mill is one of the best day…read moretrips around. It's only about 40 miles north up I-79, so it's an easy drive from the city, but it feels like a completely different world once you get down into the gorge. I've been going there for years with friends and family, and it became my go-to spot to take people when they would visit from out of town. Everyone always loves checking out the historic old gristmill and the red covered bridge right next to it. It's a great, classic view, and if you go during the summer, they usually open up the mill for tours so you can see how it all used to work. The hiking there is fantastic, too, with a good mix of trails depending on what you're up for. You can take a pretty easy walk back to Hell's Hollow Falls, or you can tackle the rougher, rockier trails that run right along Slippery Rock Creek. You definitely want to wear sturdy shoes because the terrain gets steep and the rocks get slick, but the scenery with the rushing whitewater and massive boulders is totally worth it. It's just a beautiful, simple place to get outdoors for a few hours. Whether you want a challenging hike or just want to sit by the water and look at the old bridge, it never disappoints.

Visited this state park for the first time earlier this month and had a blast!…read more I parked at what I think is the main lot, up above the mill itself. I didn't take a tour of the mill (which the park volunteers and staff do offer throughout the day) but I did walk through it and read the information in it about the history of the mill. Definitely enjoyed exploring and learning. That said, I was really there for the trails, so I spent most of my day hiking. I took a loop trail down from the mill and back (with a detour up a short trail to some falls) and it was great! I love being outside and I love a good challenge; these trails were not paved or even at all and I had a great workout navigating them. During hydration breaks I'd find a nice rock to sit on by the water, which was wonderful. It was noisy as heck by the mill because of the families, but the further out I got the more peaceful it got. Definitely met my goal of unplugging for a day during my trek on the trails. I want to come back in the future and begin to try to walk the Slippery Gorge Trail, as it sounds like the gorge is another beautiful part of the park. But that is definitely a long term goal, because that trail is not a short one! I loved visiting this park and I'd be back for sure. To everyone else, PLEASE remember water and wear the proper footwear - while I enjoyed my walk in the park, these trails are definitely not a walk in the park!
