    Beautiful pull thru spots
    Kayla T.

We came here for a week in the off season (October). Nice large pull thru spot. The lake/pond is so beautiful! The owner was very nice and so was the staff.

    Kids crafts!

Amazing place! lots of new attractions, very well-kept up. Rented a cabin this weekend for a third time! My boys had a great time with the Halloween festivities! Can't believe anyone would not give it a five star excellent service lots of fun.

My partner and I had a good three days to get away from southwestern Ontario, so, we decided to…read morebook the Penfield House, located just east of Cleveland, in the sleepy bedroom community of Willoughby Hills. If you are in need of rest and relaxation, plus, a 'back to nature' experience, we thoroughly recommend renting this 1950's Frank Lloyd Wright designed property. It was a great retreat for us. The home is retro, and given its age, appointed well enough. Actually, we were quite surprised by how comfy the beds were, as well as the nicely designed main bathroom. We've stayed in older F.L.W. designed homes, and have felt much less comfortable! Self-catering is possible, there are electric stove tops, but, there is no oven for baking or roasting. The home is stocked with everything you need to put together simple meals in style and enjoy the architecture and nature the property affords. There is a lovely deck, but, we couldn't utilize it because it was a bit too cold and wet when we visited; this would be great to dine and lounge on during summer months! What we liked most about the experience, besides checking out F.L.W.'s architecture, were the sweeping views from the large high-ceilinged living and dining room area. Inside, it felt like we were actually sitting in a forest! From the living room, from sunrise thru sunset, we could easily see deer grazing about slowly yet cautiously, beautifully and gracefully for our eyes. We viewed countless cardinals, blue jays, hawks and many other bird species, enriching the experience. There are many hiking trails on the property, and just up the road at Gully Brook Park, where we encountered more deer on our peaceful walks through the valley. Lastly, the town of Willoughby Hills itself has a decent coffee shop, numerous restaurants and bars, as well as grocery stores and wine shops, to make a stay at Penfield House most enjoyable.

Beautifully maintained, comfy and historic. We arrived and spent our first night by the fire playing games and snacking on charcuterie. An easy deal since the house is fully furnished and usable, including the firewood. Loved the ambiance and the warm vibe. You can tell it was a happy home filled with great memories. Browsing through the guest book there are many returnees each year. Sarah, the current owner, was awesome. When the power went out the first morning she and her family kept checkin up on us. We were great though, even without electricity! We built and kept the fore going, made French Press coffee and cooked on the gas stove lighting it with a lighter. There was hot water from the gas water heater so showers were had and everyone was happy. We spent the second night much like the first, games, good food (braised slow cooked short ribs over mashers and garlicky spinach) and lots of great wine, all by candle light and the warmth of the fire. It was "glamping" at its finest! Sadly, the power was not restored until after we left, but we still had a terrific time and plan on returning to enjoy the home, the hiking on the property and the Chagrin River. Highly recommend this great historic rental!

I need to write a "Fair" review of the Grand Pine Cabin…read more Many things to like but some real stingers too. First of all the Grand Pine Cabin was beautiful. It is more designed for 2-3 Families or a large group of young adults. Only 3 actual bedrooms and an open loft that sleeps 6 on each side (total 12 in Loft). The Wrap around porch and wood slides/rockers created a great ambience. Walk out basement to bar and Hot tub were nice touches. Plenty of benches and seating for a large group in the open Kitchen/living room. The fishing was great as well but you must pay $25pp/day. Now for the "not so great" points. We checked in at 4:45 pm on arrival day in July 2020. 1. David ,who I think is the owner, came to our cabin to inform us of a few concerns. He Never thanked us for coming and staying. He proceeded to inform us that the water was not drinkable. He also never apologized for any inconvenience this might cause and that set the tone. Apparently previous renter had left the shower or water running and therefore their on-site tank was empty. The owner had informed us that since the City water brought in by Fire Truck that it was not potable water and must be boiled first before use. As well as the Showers would be Dark colored. Boy was he correct. The water was dark brown in the toilets and the shower was brown water as well. This dirty water lasted for the first 24 hours and then the water became more clear. However, it was never potable water the entire stay. This alone was a large issue because we had two large families that we had to cook and drink water. Later through discussion, the owner David informed me their pump only produces 2 gallon/min and this does not keep up with the demand for all the cabins thus the need to purchase city water that was delivered dirty/sentiment. When pushing the issue with Jessica they never followed up with me. David the owner never apologized or even made any concessions for the lack of drinking water and not even offered to bring in drinking water to our cabin for the inconvenience. At these Rental rates you expect everything to be working or even informing us in advance. 2. The next issue is the Hot Tub was set to 80 degrees. I personally own a hot tub and I never keep it that low. Normal Hotels keep their Hot tubs at 102-104 degrees. It take hours to heat up 400 gallons on water. So we had to call to get that fixed the 2nd day and could not enjoy the Hot Tub until Day #3 3. The 3rd issue is that the TV's did not work. I called Jessica and she sent David over. David casually informed me that all you had to do was hit the "Home" button. By this time, two different people tried to log on to both TV's and we each spent 30 mins trying and we are not Novices at TV and Electronics. But I also did not want to reconfigure someone elses' thus the reason for calling. David, definitely installed Cheap TV's. You could not even add newer Stream Apps/services like YouTube TV or other Live Programming. So "Not Only" was there no TV or Antennae but there is only streaming available. David, who clearly did not know what he was doing tried to fix the issue and to operate the TV's. So I took over in front of him and reset the Wifi Network. But in order to use the streaming you had to use your own login. Also there was a DVD player but now HDMI cable. So basically we were only able to watch was Netflix using my own Sign-on. But we spent 2 hours dealing with this issue on our Paid Rental vacation!!! 4. The 4th issue was all the Ants in the bathrooms. We called and asked that the owners spray the cabin. This slowly helped but was not a good feeling to experience "Cabins with insects" on the interior. Not an overall issue but the appliances including TV were not great quality. But the pay for fishing seems like a Crazy amount@ $25pp/day especially if you have 10 people wanting to go fishing for 3 days. That's $750 just to go fishing for three days. In my opinion paying $607/nt for a Cabin then, I would not expect any of these issues. Which tells me that the owners are not inspecting the place thoroughly between rentals. Furthermore, the Rental agreement you need to sign is very very meticulous and is written to cover the owner and really nickel and dimes the renters. Charging per hour for Late departures, Charging extra for each additional person to stay above the basic family of maybe four people, Charging $5 for Towel Rental. We have rented many cabins before and at this level these fees are really unnecessary. That being said we knew those fees prior to booking. But I think overall I would not stay there because of the issues and attitudes. Sometimes, "Sorry" and "Thanks you's" go a long way. But apparently this is not the thinking of David the owner Diamond Lake Cabins.

They charged an additional fee per person to fish the little retention pond. They charged a fee for early check in. There was a fee to use towels. There were fees if the dishes were not done. If the trash is not taken to the dumpster at the entrance, there was a fee. On the day we arrived, the satellite tv was not working. My father in law tinkered with it for 20 minutes and identified a loose connection. The internet was down for half the day Saturday. We were here for a Saturday wedding and as there was no cell service, WiFi calling was the only means of communication. The hot tub only got warm throughout the weekend. Overall the cabin was very nice and the property was quiet and peaceful. I feel that at this price point, the amenities and cleaning should be included.

If you…read morelive in the Edinboro/Erie/surrounding area or are looking to visit this area, I highly recommend you book a stay here for your own retreat or trip instead of a night in another chain hotel! We were looking for a 'staycation' that felt like a getaway, and that's exactly what we got! For all we knew, it felt like we had traveled hundreds of miles to a vacation destination tucked away on our own exclusive resort! Their team was great and access to the room was totally contactless. They are pet-friendly and have a # of different style cabins with varying degrees of luxury & with our cabin rental, we received free kayak/canoe rentals and also received a discount to rent a pontoon boat, which we did and would do again! P.S. you do NOT need a license to drive the boat and all life jackets (except infant) are provided! You can bring food and alc/non-alc beverages on board for everyone to enjoy, except the driver, who can still enjoy a nice mocktail. The cabins were squeaky clean and have everything you need and more, most importantly: wi-fi, TV(s), heat, and A/C! Some cabins have their own deck, picnic table, and grill, but there are MULTIPLE community fire-pits and grills scattered elsewhere throughout. Even though we did not stay in a cabin right on the water, the second row was elevated high enough to still have a lake view! BIG BONUS POINTS if you have kids, as they have a HUGE lake-side sandbox like I've never seen before and an awesome playground! Hungry? Thirsty? No problem - take a few steps and you're at the connected Sunset Grill restaurant, which has a gorgeous view and observatory, live music on some nights, and my most-favorite feature, little dining cubbies for larger groups with your OWN, personal, controllable heat lamp and fan - absolutely brilliant. (No reservations unfortunately, but they were very accommodating as we tried to seat our larger group) We will definitely be going back! (*they have video walkthroughs & way better pictures on their site FYI )

We love this place! I read other reviews where they complained of the closeness of the cabins, and yes, they are very close together, but look at the map of the property layout and you'll see Cabin #21 & 22 are at the far end, offering the most privacy (these are the ones we always request.) You can see from the map if your cabin is waterfront or not, and how close the next cabin is. They did their best to insert privacy walls and landscaping trees to help with that issue. But if you are coming with a large group and want all your cabins together, the closeness is a plus, not a negative. The cabins are great! They provide towels and bedding for the main bed and bunks, but I'd recommend bringing extra blankets and your own pillows. The kitchen utensils were lacking in our cabin; we did not have a toaster, so I "toasted" the bread in a frying pan. We also didn't have a pizza cutter (I just used the butcher knife) and the bowl to mix avocados was massive with a flat bottom..LOL. I made it all work, but had I been staying longer, I probably would have asked if they had these items or went to the dollar store and bought stuff. (Or brought it from home had I realized.) SO, if you plan on cooking/preparing anything specific, maybe pack necessary kitchen items so you can accomplish your task. Also, bring your own plastic cups for kiddos, or for yourself, a plastic/insulated beverage container for walking around or boating. They only have glass (and very fragile wine glasses!) The property is lovely with concrete walking paths everywhere, 3 extra restrooms on the property, and Sunset Grille (great food and live music on the weekends). There is a kid's playground area, small sandy area, sitting spaces, fire pits, grills and picnic tables dotted all over the property. They offer non-motorized boats to all guests and we definitely take advantage of that! The kayaking is so fun! The lake is very nice once you get further from the front of the resort where it's more lillypads, algae blooms and "seaweed"... it's natural though, nothing to be grossed out about. Also, it is right off a main road, but if you pay attention to what's in front of you, not what's behind you.... you'll be happy :)
