It became immediately clear after our initial consultation that Debbie and Nick's approach was significantly different than a highly "recommended" landscaper who proposed the usual yellow day lilies, Japanese holly, nandina, plunked here and there, all of which you can see in any commercial landscape. Nick started with huge amounts of soil mixed with pumice to assure good drainage which was the first major difference. Their very creative plant selection was adjusted as needed, which I found very reassuring as a gardener. We now have these beautiful moss and lichen boulders sitting among a variety of plants, tied together in a colorful apricot and purple pallet. Nick, Debbie, and Josh only work on one project at a time, so we knew once work started, it would not stop until it was finished. Neighbors are always stopping by to look. We can not wait until it all grows in. It is beautiful!

She was collaborative throughout the planning process and helped the board members of our condo articulate what we were hoping for as we were treading into a territory we had know prior knowledge of. Hanne was able to calibrate her plan based on our budget, our capacity to collectively maintain the yard, and the aesthetic we were hoping for. She kept in mind how prices for plants and materials would change, and worked quickly to save us from paying more than we had to. On the work day, she was willing to guide 6 landscaping newbies through updating our yard. Even though it was raining, she made the entire landscaping day enjoyable. Since then, Hanne has been more than willing to provide us direction on how best to maintain our new yard and even provided us useful recommendations for building a fence to accompany our yard update. I had initially become aware of Hanne because of one my sisters had an amazing experience with her previously, and after the similarly great time we had with her, my other sister hired Hanne for her yard! Throughout this process I came to think of Carol as something of a "landscape therapist" in addition to being a skilled landscape designer. Her business is called "Design in a Day," but she put a significant amount of time into multiple phone calls with us prior to her visit, and it eases my mind knowing that I could call or email her with follow-up questions. As for the plan itself, it's safe to say that we now have solutions to various puzzles that I NEVER would have thought of on my own. The detailed garden plan, including a full plant list and information about where to source both plants and landscaping materials is incredibly helpful. I now feel that we have a plan that we can spend the remainder of our time in this house developing, and that idea is exciting instead of overwhelming. I was initially concerned that a landscape design service wouldn't be suited to our somewhat modest budget and slow timeline, but now I'm glad that we didn't wait a minute longer to contact Carol. Our Beautiful Yards…read more We looked for a long time for the right fit to redesign the landscapes in the front and back yards of the home we purchased a few years ago. The yards were such a mess it was really difficult for us to picture the future state on our own. Carol applied her years of experience and took the time to understand what we were looking for. The changes were all made last summer. Removed a nuisance maple tree pushing on the house, complete some hardscape items and then plant the plan Carol developed. Those plants are now embracing spring and our yard is looking lovely. Carol was awesome throughout the process and with our follow up questions and substitutions after the fact. The critical issues we encountered were: Inaccurate Billing: We were repeatedly invoiced for services that were never performed. Correcting these errors required multiple follow-ups and often took days for a response from the owner. Lack of Reliability: There was no consistent schedule. Assurances of "we'll be there this week" frequently went unfulfilled without communication. Substandard Workmanship: Routine upkeep was often neglected, allowing weeds to overgrow in serviced areas. Additionally, crews frequently left tools and personal items behind on our property. Poor Management: While Aloe is a talented salesperson, the business lacks the necessary infrastructure to manage a recurring client base. We even recommended them to a friend who unfortunately experienced the exact same pattern of unreliability. It is disappointing to see a business with such potential struggle with basic operational accountability. We wish the team the best and hope they can implement a more reliable system, but we cannot recommend their maintenance services at this time.

She resorted to name calling and refused to comply with her own contract. Below are my grievances. Bogus charges. She charged me for research and travel time. She inflates the prices for supplies. Aloe, definitely has a pattern. No matter what you request, she buys the absolute cheapest version of it and charges you top price, too. For example, I paid for bend-a-board but she used three long strips of cheap metal edging instead and did not even complete all of the edging. Supplies. I paid for supplies I never received, such as a B-hyve Hub. I paid for five large white iceberg rose bushes at $70 per bush, but only received four. I paid for fabric weed block, she used cheap cloth. I paid for gravel and river rock she never even used. I paid for bend-a-board she never used. I paid for soil for the raised concrete bedding area, the same dirt is still there. I paid for two irrigation timers, but only got one. I paid for wood for two hand rails, and got none. I paid for wood for a brand new fence along the driveway and only got some. Materials. She used "used" materials even though I paid for new. The tubing for the drip system is used and is a combination of tubing and soaker hose. The stone work. In front of the house is already falling off, incomplete and is of very poor craftsmanship. The stepping stones. Were just placed on top of the ground, are unstable and a tripping hazard. I had to remove them. I paid for slate, but did not get slate. Instead, I got the cheapest stepping stones she could find and still charged me top dollar. The path. She did not even bother to provide enough gravel to cover the entire path, even though I paid for her to buy enough. The stepping stones are unstable and had to be removed. She left the edging along both sides of the path 95% incomplete. Weed block. She used cheap weed block even though I asked for fabric and she did not even cover all the areas like I requested and paid for. Already weeds are coming up. The fence. She knowingly installed an illegal fence and she never completed the fence along the driveway. The entire fence was to be removed, rebuilt and painted. What is existing is not built correctly. What happened to the primer and paint I paid for to paint the fence white? What happened to the wood I paid for to replace the old fence? Hand rails. I paid for supplies for her to build me two new handrails. She only painted the existing one. Gate on driveway. She never even attempted to install a gate on the driveway even though I paid for materials for that, too. Overall craftsmanship. Is of very poor quality. Another pattern. Incomplete projects. She never fully completes one part of a project. For example, the irrigation, stone work and path were left unfinished for three to four weeks and still are unfinished. Mind you, she did almost all the work herself and was present while the irrigation and stonework were being installed and then pretended to not know these things were not finished like she said. The drip system. When I told her I had to buy more materials and finish the drip system myself she could have cared less. She told me it takes an entire day to put in a drip system. This is not my first rodeo. It does not take all day, but later I found out she charged me for an entire day of work. The landscaping. Is not a two month long project, but it turned into that because she did almost all the work herself. Again, this is not my first rodeo. Had she just shown up with a crew she could have knocked it out in no more than two weeks. Instead, she overbooked herself, spread her crew thin and mismanaged the entire project. She does not clean up after herself. She left trash and debris on my driveway, the sidewalk and on the street in front of my home. I had to do the sweeping and throw away the trash myself. The contract. I complied. I made all progress payments. She did not comply. She did not finish the project. She knowingly installed an illegal fence. She never replaced the original handrail by the steps and never added a second one, even though I paid for the materials. She charged me bogus charges for research. She kept materials I paid for. She used "used" materials when I paid for new. She left a mess on my property. She resorted to false accusations and name calling. She even tried to blame my one-year old German Shepherd puppy that is being professionally trained. Still, she gave me the finger! I contacted the Landscaper Contractors Board and received the following response. See photo below. Moreover, I had an assessment done of her work by a licensed landscape company. I have left out names to protect those individuals. See photo below.
