I thought the idea of biomemetic dentistry was worth look into. However the receptionist Informed me, rather curtly, that it is a mandatory requirement to have a CT of the head and neck done on the initial visit. I have had many CTs for different problems in the past and asked if the neck CT was necessary since I don't have any current neck complaint. The receptionist wouldn't even ask the dentist to consider my history of exposure. Given a history of CTs in the past, it's important to evaluate each patient individually and decide if CT is absolutely necessary, per every primary medical source I checked. After enduring over six years of pain and being dismissed by over seven different conventional dentists, I was recommended to Green City Dental by a functional medicine practitioner. On my first visit, I complained about my teeth pain, expecting to get an x ray and be told once again that there is nothing there. Dr. Isabel Pérez used a CBCT scan on my teeth (a tool not previously used in my examinations elsewhere) and identified an infection in my teeth that had been the source of my agony for all those years. After I cried tears of validation in her chair, Dr. Pérez then undertook the challenge of addressing the chaos that was my oral health with such kindness and compassion. I appreciate that her biopsychosocial approach considers the impact of dental issues on the entire body and I not only learned a lot from her about dental health but I learned about overall wellness too. But there is a downside--besides the major issue that they don't take insurance (huge pain in the ass), and the reason this is only a 3 star review: The dreaded front desk people. Not sure why, but the front desk people generally seem to have a big chip on their shoulders. It's more than unpleasant to deal with them. Particularly the one that schedules and collects payment. I don't usually write reviews, but Green City Dental is such an amazing dental practice I feel compelled to share. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating and the office space itself is warm and relaxing. Most importantly, the dental care and protocols followed are absolutely at the cutting edge of holistic dentistry and are working amazingly for me and my family. I've been told people fly regularly from out of state to see Dr Taylor and I can understand why. I first came to this office for a Nightlase treatment to help with some snoring issues. I saw immediately results that night, with the snoring app reporting I was snoring 2/3 less than before. The treatment only took 20 minutes and was so worth it. What amazing technology! During Dr. Taylor's diagnosis, she mentioned that my anterior cross bite was a major contributor to the narrow airway that causes my snoring in the first palace. I decided to address this as well and she started me with an orthodontic expander. After just a few months, I'm already seeing impressive results in my both my appearance and my airway. When I mentioned the teeth crowding in my 7 and 4 year old children's mouths, Dr Taylor did a comprehensive evaluation of the situation. She explained the long term physical and cosmetic benefits as well as cost savings possible with early intervention; others with a more superficial understanding of these issues had recommended waiting until teen years. Shelby has been amazing working with my kids on their expander and Myobrace, inspiring them to enthusiastically wear the appliances. My kids love using the iPad app to practice their breathing and swallowing exercises and report back to Shelby on how well they are doing. I like Green City Dental, and it's different than the type of dentistry that I was familiar with as a kid. A lot of dentistry is storytelling: it's about helping a person have reasons for why the "little white organs" (teeth), tongue, and "mouth structure" they sit in, together, are doing the things they're doing. Since bodies are these finely tuned machines and want to be healthy, it's important to get a helpful story to lift you forward. In the past, my dentist said things like: A) "you have a cavity" so it's time to "drill and fill." And, B) you grind your teeth at night, so it's time to get you a "mouth guard." And, C) you have wisdom teeth coming in, we're going to need to remove those. Hmm, for me, I never liked these stories. This story was more about perceived "diseases" then about keeping my mouth healthy and happy. At Green City Dental, they also tell a story about my mouth. They say, 1) let's make sure your mouth structure is the right shape for your tongue. 2) Let's make sure your teeth are getting vitamins, minerals, good bacteria, and appropriate acidity to keep themselves healthy. 3) How's your posture when you sleep, and aren't super conscious -- is that posture giving you clearance to breathe well and sleep deeply? It seems like nerves tell muscles what to do, and muscles put bones in position. If something in that chain is just a little bit off, especially for a long time, it can cause lots of problems! For example, using soap to clean your teeth (most toothpastes are a version of soap) you're going to have lots of bad bacteria flooding back in to make a mess (kind of like weeds on a clear field of dirt). If your mouth's saliva is too acidic (maybe even because you're breathing through your mouth all night long and dropping the ph), you might get cavities or need a tonsillectomy because those little organs are more exposed than they need to be. If your tongue muscle didn't quite help your mouth get to the right shape, you might not be able to fit your wisdom teeth or your tongue fully! But, the most important thing is this: there are ways to fix all these things, and none of those ways involve drilling teeth, a plastic mouthpiece, or surgery. I am very happy to have found a dentistry practice that views dental health as an aspect overall health. I have had quality work done by both Dr. Taylor and Dr. Isabel, and the assistant Trang left me with most comfortable temporary crown I could ever imagine. You do have to watch your budget because my dental insurance considers them out of network, so it is mostly out of pocket--but they have been great about informing me of the costs up front so that I can plan. Prepare for information overload with little to back it up when you ask (an effective marketing approach which assumes you won't stop to question and do your own research). Within 5 min Dr Taylor recommended an unnecessary surgery, and an unnecessary extraction because she cannot read a CT - but doesn't let that stop her from trying, and straying way outside her lane. I have been going there about three years now and it has barely improved. I think they do good dentistry but they don't take care of the logistics around their patients, and they don't communicate well around insurance. From the beginning the office filed claims with my insurance, and preventative care was covered at 100% but sometime in the past year(2018) the office apparently pulled out of all insurance networks. At my last preventative care visit, I was told they work with my provider. Then a month or so I received an adjusted bill. Fast call to my insurance company proved that 100% preventative care limit was reached from just 1 visit - think of cleaning and basic exam?! Thank you Green City Dental! read more

I was referred here by my naturopath and I was so hopeful. I was not able to schedule for some time because of my own restrictions but mostly because of the time available at the office. It also took a very long time for anyone to call me back when I called several times and left messages. I kept trying because I trust my other healthcare provider who referred me. I finally got in for an appointment and I was so disappointed. After I was seated in a room and the girl asked me a lot of questions, Dr. Taylor talked to me for like 10 minutes. It didn't seem like she knew about what I had already told the other girl. She looked into my mouth for maybe 3 minutes and said things I didn't understand. She said someone else would help me from there but the girl who came in after that didn't seem to know what was going on. They said I needed to have many fillings replaced and my airway was little. Dr. Taylor didn't explain what that meant and the girl who was telling me about it didn't seem to know what it even meant? Because what they said I needed was very expensive, I said I needed to think about it. I called back the next week and asked to have Dr. Taylor give me more information. The person who I talked to said she was new there and would get back to me. I still have not heard from anymore. I paid a lot of money for my first time because I thought I would get really good service from an office that was different and in line with natural care like my naturopath. Summary: I think they do good basic dentistry but they don't take care of the logistics around their patients, and they don't communicate well or hold to agreements they have made around insurance, payments, and appointments. I have been going here about a year and it has barely improved. If you can find a similar holistic dentist, I'd recommend you go to them. My story: I was referred to Green City Dental by my naturopath back in 2016. I had some normal cleaning dentistry, done well, and got sold on a DNA appliance to address my sleep apnea in August 2016. They told me I could get it before the end of the insurance year (10/1/16). This was great for me b/c I had gone over my maximum. Actually, I end up getting it 5/1/17! Story: all I had to do was schedule several appointments; their availability kept slipping and, even though I did everything I was asked. This included a ridiculous fitting appointment on Sept 28 where they didn't have enough space indoors and I was put in a car outside in the summer heat while having my jaw shocked to relax it for at least an hour, probably 2 or more (and I eventually passed out inside the office later in the appointment). A month and a half later (11/11), I was told that I needed to get another set of impressions (and no reason given as to why the ones I took at the prior appointment were not suitable), then "2. As soon as we have your impressions, it will be 7-11 days until we get your fabricated appliance back from the lab. 3. As soon as the appliance is back from the lab, we can fit your appliance." I tried to promptly schedule this appointment, and after them mistakenly booking me for another TENSing 3 hour appointment, their soonest appt was 12/2. I got impressions done again. They tell me their lab is "rushing" the appliance, quoted above at 7-11 days to fabricate. More than two months later, I get an email 2/9/17 updating me that they still don't have my appliance. Another two months later, on 4/19/17, they email me saying they have the appliance and I come in for it. I get an appointment May 5th (it has been ~10 months now since we began this) - now when I arrive they tell me they can't bill my insurance for the prior year. I tell them this is not what we agreed to but they said they can't do it, so I agree to a large co-pay ($700), so that they would give me the appliance. Even then, I only go 1/2 of the appliance, the upper part. Next, it took me months to get the lower part of the appliance, which is actually the part that moves the jaw forward to address the sleep apnea (and thus increases the size of your airway). The general practitioner that helped convince me to get the appliance found this ridiculous and was willing to write a letter telling them to give it to me; Dr. Taylor said they needed the upper jaw to move for 6 months. I finally got given the lower one eventually, even with nowhere near that much progress (6 months is 24 turns (advancing the appliance) and I did something like 6-8). Now, because I didn't have both appliances from the beginning, I had ground away part of the upper appliance for the lower one to rest against (and I had voiced my concern at this months before). If I kept grinding my teeth with both in, I would damage the lower appliance. So I took it slow in using and advancing them until I felt I was not grinding them at night. This finally noticeably helped some of my sleep apnea and I started waking up more refreshed in Dec 2016, more than a year since I should have received my appliance according to what I was told when I started. Today, I go to a checkup appointment, after renting a car to get to the appointment on time after two buses failed to show up for me. I was seen by a technical assistant basically on time. I was then told I could wait to see Dr. Taylor (who my appointment was with), and it would be 5-10 minutes. 25 minutes later I was told because I hadn't completed the 4 turns on both the upper and lower appliance that they wanted, Dr. Taylor would only see me by charging an extra consulting fee. I was told Dr. Taylor had discussed this with me. While I do remember discussing that the appliance might not be working with me (she brought that up, and I acknowledged the challenges I had had wearing it, particularly just the upper part), nothing was mentioned about fees or waiting to come in. I told them this was ridiculous and not clear at all at our prior appointment (and I would have gladly waited and come a different day so as to not waste my time or rent a vehicle just to keep up my scheduled appointment). Besides my experience, I also had a friend call me and ask if Green City had ever called me asking for payment when I had already potentially paid. I said no. She told me she had repeatedly received calls asking for payment when she had already paid, even after she told them that. read more

Beware of Green City Dental and Dr. Taylor! At first everything was amazing: they gave me educational pamphlets and everyone was extremely nice. Then things went downhill in a heartbeat. Since I'm an uninsured patient, everything was paid for out of pocket. I decided to divide up my treatment plan and only did my left side with a total cost of $3665. This part of my treatment included replacing a very old and large filling with a crown. The cost of this tooth alone was $1600. When I made the decision to get it done Shelby the office coordinator surprisingly told me that in order to confirm my appointment I needed to pay a deposit and she even gave me a deadline to do it or my appointment would be canceled. It was quite strange to me because every other dentist that I had visited in the past would do the job first and then charge me. That gave me a bad vibe so I decided to wait until my appointment two weeks later to pay. Shelby told me that my appointment wouldn't be guaranteed. During those two weeks, she called me and asked for the deposit again and I told her I was going to wait until the appointment date. She put me on hold to talk to the accounting manager and when she came back she told me that if I paid on the date of my appointment I'd have to pay before they even sat me down in the chair!! I felt like a like a criminal and even told her, "What do you think that if I get the job done before I pay that I'm going to sprint out of the office?" That situation confirmed my suspicions: all they care about is money.. I couldn't sit around waiting for my chipped tooth to get worse so I went ahead and got the job done. Dr. Taylor did all the drilling and everything she was supposed to do and Shelby put a temporary crown in and sent me on my way without even mentioning (let alone prescribing) a pain killer. After the anesthesia wore off I was in excruciating pain and I even developed a cold sore on my left side. Those were miserable days for me. The temporary crown was so sharp that it even cut the side of my tongue. I couldn't go back to the dentist because my cold sore was too painful for me to brush my teeth let alone get dental work done. Fast forward two weeks to when I got my permanent crowns put in and that's where my horror story begins. Both of the crowns were too high so it was painful to eat. I called doctor Taylor and they told me to go back for a bite adjustment. I went but one of the crowns still hurt when I ate, so I called again and went for a second bite adjustment. I waited a couple days and this crown was still causing me pain when I ate so I called yet again and got a third bite adjustment. At this time I was frustrated and almost sure that there was something wrong with that crown. I even asked Dr. Taylor what the next step would be if the third bite adjustment didn't work. She said it would work and if not I would get the ozone and vitamin c treatment. Throughout all of these bite adjustments not once did she retake x rays to see if there was something wrong. The day after my third bite adjustment the pain was worse and reached my ear. I called the office and she decided to refer me to an endodontist. At this point I was mad because she was not standing behind her work and she was sending me to a different dentist to clean up her mess. She, a holistic dentist, knew that I didn't want a root canal and instead of warning me that my tooth was in bad shape for a crown she went ahead and did the procedure despite knowing that it wouldn't work. She clearly did this for the money. Now I'm in the situation of either getting a root canal or my tooth extracted which in either case would end in losing my money, my tooth, my crown and even paying more money to replace my tooth!!! This is complete and utter malpractice!! Do not trust Dr. Taylor at all!! read more

We were looking for an alternative dentist for our daughters first checkup since she was developing a cavity, and based on the beautiful website of Green City Dental, the high reviews of so many people, and the appearance of fitting exactly what we were looking for in natural dentistry, we thought we found our perfect match. We made the appointment and brought her in, from Whidbey Island to Seattle, but instead of receiving the first class care that all these people raved about in the reviews, the hygienist instead shamed my wife and my daughter after her x-rays and reviews, told her what the issues were, then told her she couldn't be seen by the dentist because they were too busy to deal with her. Then she collected payment and sent them on their way with a cavity still in my daughters mouth. It wasn't until we reviewed the bill we saw they charged her for some BS service, a "comprehensive evaluation", they never provided to us! I so wanted to like them with the holistic vibe but have been burned (literally and figuratively) twice now and cannot recommend. In 2014 I went in for a crown replacement. The dental assistant proceeded to burn herself and me while putting on the temporary crown. (I didn't know I was burned until the Novocain wore off when I got home.) When I went back for the permanent crown I let them know than no one but the dentist was getting near me. Fast forward 4 years, to yesterday. Same crown has cracked to pieces and I now have a new temporary crown which my insurance won't pay for because it's been less than 7 years. My present dentist (40 years experience) tells me I never should have had that particular kind of crown (zirconium?) because I have 'short' teeth. Now they make a better type of zirconium that would work but back then it was not the appropriate choice. So now I'm getting a gold crown which will definitely last much longer. But, now all is totally out of my pocket. Grrrrrr. read more

I knew I wanted to try holistic dentistry and found Green City Dental that was near me. They were a fairly new practice when I started coming to this office (Edmonds). I pay out of pocket (no insurance) so I really appreciate their membership club that discounts not only the cleanings and exams, but discounts their cutting edge and natural toothpastes and other products. I love how they look at your plaque under a dark field microscope at each cleaning and you can see for yourself the types of bacteria residing in your mouth, both good and bad. They prescribed a protocol to use at home to help me improve the situation. It's much more motivating to be extra diligent on home dental care when you see the tangible results of your efforts. Another thing I have taken advantage of is biocompatible materials testing. No other dentist ever provided this option to make sure that the materials used for crowns and fillings would not harm me. This is very individualistic. Another thing I appreciate is that they work to improve their operation. In the early days I was frustrated with how long it took to get a detailed invoice I needed for insurance purposes. But the staff worked hard to get me what I needed even though their software wasn't cooperating. The software must be fixed because that's no longer an issue. The office itself is very earthy and eco conscious which befits their holistic approach. They even provide real towels to dry your hands in the bathroom. They have a cozy waiting room and provide free beverages. That's a nice touch. Kudos to Dr. Taylor and Barbara, my hygienist, for the excellent care I have received. This Dental office is a real gem. I have a mouthful of problems and there is certainly no easy solutions to fixing them. Yet, here is a dental clinic that not only goes out of their way to educate me on solutions, they worked with me to find out underlying causes of my issues. I have never had a dentist do as many x-rays and tests to get to the best solution of my health care. I have had heat/cold sensitivity for as long as I can remember. Since working with Dr. Taylor, Shelby and the rest of the staff the pain is diminished to the point that ice cream and ice tea are back on the menu. They are also working on my teeth grinding. Sleep testing to determine the problem was recommended. Ever heard of a dentist doing that? Me either. They also use high end local anesthesia. I didn't walk out of there drooling like a moose and waiting half a day for the feeling to come back into my tongue. Fantastic. I'm not done with the campaign to get my teeth fixed yet but I certainly know that solutions have been found at Green City Dental. Wish that they had 10 stars on Yelp. My kids and I have been seeing this dentist for 5+ years- from very early on in the practice. I was drawn to the natural dentistry approach and drove from out of town to see this dentist. From the beginning the office filed claims with my insurance, and preventative care was covered at 100%. At each visit the office staff would either tell me I owed a portion (for fillings and other non covered services) or not (for cleanings) and I paid all I was asked to pay. Then the other day I get a large bill for services dating from the last year and a half. Sometime in the past few years the office apparently pulled out of all insurance networks. I was not informed of this, was never sent a letter or told at any visit. At none of my 6+ appointments did the office staff ever tell me I was out of network, and I had no reason to believe I was since I never received a bill after Any appointments. So here I am a year and a half later after taking my kids for 3 cleanings each and 2 for myself, all the while thinking preventative is being covered at 100%, with a surprise bill for all of those services. If I had known my preventative services were not covered 100% I would have changed dentists a year and a half ago. I called and talked to the receptionist explaining my thoughts on this surprise bill, but the office refuses to admit any fault and refuses to compromise. VERY expensive and unprofessional logistics around patient care. I had an exam that cost $550 and waited about more than an hour for the doctor to see me. When my appointment was over, everyone who worked there was rushing to leave. I didn't get the chance to ask the doctor any final questions, the person at the front desk couldn't run my card or provide a final bill, and when I went to use the restroom before I left, there wasn't any water. (They turn it off when they leave for the weekend, but there was still a patient in the office!) I had pain in two teeth and only one got addressed, and the treatment plan was thousands and thousands of dollars. The other tooth is definitely cracked and needs a crown but it wasn't even discussed. Then I had a follow-up phone consult scheduled, for which their office sent out both text and email reminders, so I blocked that time off, sat by the phone with the xray report open, and waited more than 45 minutes for a call from the doctor that never came. Finally I called the office and they didn't answer, so I left a message. They called back and said, oh my gosh, we totally forgot to call you and tell you the doctor is doing restorative dentistry right now. Then why did you schedule a call for me at the same time? When she finally did call, I was like, I'm done with this place. You definitely do not get what you pay for with this expensive practice. I've had nothing but good experiences in this office. First, I have to say, that they do an amazing job looking at the mouth as it relates to the rest of the body. They even look at your plaque under a microscope!!!. I had NO IDEA I had parasites in my mouth that were causing my gum problems, which no other dentist had picked up on. Since my gums have been treated, they do not bleed anymore, and my digestion has gotten better. Dr. Taylor also removed my mercury fillings using a safe mercury removal protocol. I was impressed with the knowledge she had about mercury in the body, her reasoning as to how her protocol protects patients, and pointing me in the direction of a great naturopath on how I could detox my body. She also offered biocompatibility testing for the materials she uses, to make sure that your body is compatible before she places things in your mouth. She treated some of my teeth using no drill fillings and ozone treatment, which another dentist wanted to drill and fill. She helped me remineralize my cavities so I did not have to have regular fillings. I've been so impressed by this office, their team, and Dr. Taylor's philosophy. She is extremely knowledgeable, respectful, and truly cares about her patients' well being, which is hard to find in healthcare these days.
