We were redoing a bathroom and gathering quotes and Peter at World of Kitchens was recommended by…read morenumerous neighbors. Peter checked out our bathroom and took notes and measurements but unbeknown to us, was not a contractor, just a supplier. He could not comment on our proposed bathroom layout changes or whether it would be possible to move plumbing or how big our shower should be. Before he left he gave us a number of a plumber and told us to contact him and see what he thought about our plumbing rearrangement. We expected that after this plumber came out (given prior notice by Peter that we were calling), he and Peter would work up a proposal with a price. We had a short time frame to work in and he was the last quote we were waiting on. We eventually got hold of the plumber who had no idea what we were calling about and turned out was booked for another month anyway. We then called Peter and he said oh, try this other friend (we thought another plumber) and clearly did not intend to propose anything but we should come down and look at vanities. At that point we were ready to give up and go with one of the other quotes. We were able to get a hold of this 2nd "plumber" who turned out was a contractor and also was not aware we were going to call but agreed to come out. The pro of the story was we found a great contractor and since we had found him via Peter, we felt obliged to buy some items from him. We went to the store and well, I guess I was expecting kitchen AND bathroom stuff but it was solely kitchen stuff. The only item we could get from there was a vanity and medicine cabinet and we'd have to go somewhere else to get the counter top and they'd be able to put it all together. The cabinets were not cheap (I didn't expect them to be) but we figured, we'll just buy this one thing from the guy and that's it. Of course the items would take 4 wks to arrive so we had to rush. At this point we were toying with the idea of a new layout that would affect the size of our vanity and it all depended on our plumbing which of course, was hidden in the walls and floor. Peter let us know the order cutoff was Fri (this was Sun) so if we could get him an order by then, we should have the vanity in time as to not stall the job. Our poor contractor rushed over, leaving another job, to come and assess the situation and do demo work. He spent 2.5 days tearing apart the bathroom and had his plumber come after work hours to decide if we could make this new layout happen. In the end it was a dud so we let Peter know via email on Thurs we were sticking with the original size vanity. Well no response from Peter and now Fri had passed so on Sat, we contacted Peter who says oh! I took Fri off for my son's birthday and have no access to email at home. UMMMMMMM......... what??? Even our contractor was flabbergasted like why did I bust my a** if it wasn't going to matter. Peter assured us though he would get the order in and it would still come in time.... So.... not sure what the deal was about the cutoff.... didn't we just extend our time frame another week? We went down to the store to finalize the paperwork (once again, me thinking we just have to buy this from him and that's it). We arrive and look over the numbers. He gives us the card for a granite place to pick out our vanity top. And oh, by the way, the medicine cabinet doesn't come with a mirror. So when that comes in take it to Mr XYZ and he will measure and fit it and that will take another week and that price is not included and I'm not sure how much extra that will be. OH, and I need a check for the deposit, did I forget to mention that? At least he offered to pick up the check from us. We left and I was not happy to be paying $$$$$ and having to wait so long for items to arrive and run around and get mirrors from one place and granite from another and extend our time frame. In the end we canceled our order (big weight lifted off my shoulder!) and bought all our stuff from Lowe's and Amazon which we love and was way cheaper. I'm not sure how much of a "review" this is. He is a nice enough guy and he did come out probably knowing we would only buy one cabinet. I just did not feel comfortable giving him my business with all these little nuances popping up.

The job was quoted via a written estimate and intended to be one in one day. The first part of the work was done in one day and then Hands On did not return to complete the job for several months - I somewhat expected this as I was told upfront that my job was small. However, what was troubling was that the final invoice pretty much doubled the original quote which included the wording " Any alterations or deviations from the above specifications involving extra costs, shall be excuted upon written change order from Hands-On Construction authorized personnel". When confronted with this Hands-On admitted a mistake but would not compromise on the charge taking the stance that if I was uncomfortable with them I shouldn't work with them in the future. Needless to say I will not be working with Hands-On again, nor would I feel comfortable recommending them for any job large or small that you would expect to be done on budget or on time.

They understood what we wanted and suggested design that would work well. They assisted in choosing cabinetry, flooring and counter tops that all worked well together. Tom came originally to scope out the construction details and what would need to be done ex. vent for stove through attic, sub panel for electric system. Once the construction started Eric was the lead carpenter. He supervised the whole project. He was great. He kept us informed about what was happening when. He also introduced us to each of the sub contractors who came to do work. All were pleasant and professional. They put protective coverings on floors and doorways to limit dust. At the end of each day they cleaned up and vacuumed the work area. When one of the cabinet doors came in the wrong size, there was no question about replacing it. One thing I really appreciated was that construction did not start until they had received all of the cabinets, flooring, countertop etc so work went smoothly and was completed without delays.

We worked with Alyssa to help design everything, something she has great skill and a true eye for detail. She didn't try to push products or oversell us. If anything, she provided some suggestions on how to lower cost (used remnants for the quartz countertop; suggested comparing costs to Home Depot). Once the design was finalized, I was extremely impressed with Eric, the contractor who installed the island himself and oversaw the other contractors. He was excellent communicating with me each and every day. He noticed some inconsistencies in the wood on the cabinet doors of the island and immediately ordered new one (he still installed the original and came a few days later with the new doors). Everything was just so professional. I haven't had too many experiences with contractors in the past, but every one I (and my family, for that matter) have had for the most part have been negative. The project doesn't start on time, finish on time, guys no-show for no apparent reason, etc. This was the opposite. Watch City had the chance to move up the timeline, which fit into my schedule. As a result, the project was done a week early. If you're looking to do any sort of work on your kitchen, definitely give Watch City a look.

Dave at RiverBend helped us select manufacturers and specific models of appliances. He steered us away from products that were no longer as reliable as they had been in the past. We decided to get mostly Miele products and SubZero fridge and freezer. They seem amazing. Throughout the long project Dave worked with us right through installation. He even helped us get rebates that Miele was offering that had escaped our attention! We will be moving back into the house in two weeks and can't wait to use the appliances in our dream home. Unfortunately I am not the only one who has endured a bad experience with her. MH I warn anyone who will listen away from this unethical business and owner Robin Boyce. I had the misfortune to be her client and endure her careless, unprofessional, dishonest and ultimately abusive and vulgar treatment. My "custom kitchen" arrived without the custom elements and with a grossly oversized refrigerator. The kitchen designer blames someone else for a major kitchen error and refuses to fix it! (See photos) I had the exact same experience with the shutters and the custom stair-runner I ordered from her. They were both delivered with errors and missing parts, and Design West has done NOTHING to correct its errors. This is the worst experience I've ever had with another human being, period. I never received an apology on any mistake I swear to God. That's when I realized too late I had hired the wrong person. Robin Boyce/Design Center West scammed me by promising professional results and delivering dirt. Robin Boyce then turned verbally abusive when confronted with her easily disproved lies. (I have all documentation to prove my charges.) This last point deserves special mention. When I expressed my dismay at the errors, delays and lack of accountability, her demeanor shifted immediately from friendly to combative and borderline violent. It was a shock to learn the owner wasn't just a sleaze but mentally unhinged too. When I confronted her in her store after she ignored my contractor's emails and texts, she began screaming profanities at me while hurling insults about my appearance and character, which I presumed was an intimidation tactic. That felt sickening, but it worsened when she came at me with her arm pulled back as if to throw a punch, but thankfully she stopped herself before landing her fist in my face. I feel certain the only thing that stopped her was a possible assault charge. I would feel sorry for Ms Boyce if she wasn't a thief, and if her emotional instability didn't manifest in such an ugly manner. But no mental state excuses her dishonesty, mentally healthy or not. Not a word of this review is hyperbole. I lost thousands of dollars and was blindsided by a venomous verbal assault because I had the temerity to call out Robin Boyce on her mendacity and fraud. I could provide a colorful litany of her actions, but suffice it to say that it involved a lot of obscene finger, hip and hand gestures. Incidentally, her staff just sat there like dummies the entire time and let it all happen. Apparently they don't have an issue working for such a repulsive woman. Prior to my dealings with her, Robin was verbally abusive to my contractor on multiple occasions as well when he asked her about delayed deliverables. Following is an example of one the few correspondences between him and Robin that isn't littered with her F-bombs: "Shut up. Stop talking. Don't tell me what to do. Its not Maureen... its you. I'm surprised guys take your mouth, and the way you talk down to others; I suspect you've been punched a few times." This is the first---and I hope last--bad review I ever had to write. Let this brutally honest review serve as a public service announcement to warn others away from this troublemaker. Do not hire Design Center West. You will pay a premium for sloppy, mediocre results, and the owner will curse you when you express your dissatisfaction. This has been a yearlong nightmare that only ended after I hired someone else to fix all of her mistakes. Caveat emptor!

Robin helped me from start to finish with my new house build. Even during the pandemic she has been on top of things and instructing me to get things ordered prior to shipment delays. She and her team have been responsible, proactive, and truly professional. They are communicating with my contractor and his team and his cabinet installer told me it was such a pleasure working with them he would like to do more jobs with them. Any mistakes (Fedex dropped a vanity and it cracked) were handled quickly and replaced at no cost to me. Her attention to detail is incredible. Additionally, she was very focused on saving me money and making sure I was not buying things I did not need. It has been a true pleasure working with Robin and her team again. I cannot say enough good things about them!
