This was my first time ever stepping foot into Lowe's and I'm so glad I did. After so many failed…read moreattempts at their competitor stores, I finally found what I needed within a reasonable time frame. Joshua in the appliance department was efficient and super helpful! He was ready to answer any questions we had regarding our new fridge for our new home! He also informed us about the free delivery and installation that came with our purchase. We were also looking to get a water line extension and he picked one up for us in a different aisle and is getting shipped to the new house along with the fridge. Again, Joshua was quick and efficient. He answered all the questions we had for him and made this store purchase super easy.

This was quite an ordeal. I will preface this by saying I KNEW ordering from Lowe's was a bad idea,…read morebut they were the only place that had the size fridge we needed in stock. My elderly parents' fridge went out, it needed to fit in a very small space, and Lowe's was the only place that had a fridge that would fit that could be delivered in less than a month. First round: Drivers arrived on time but refused to take the doors off the apartment. My parents medical assistant had to remove the door to the apartment and the fridge, delivery people then installed the fridge. Great! Problem solved, right? Wrong. We waited 24 hours - the fridge does not get cold. I send my very skilled handyman to take a look - the fridge has power, no issues, just doesn't work. Super. I call and say you delivered a fridge that doesn't work. They don't apologize. They say the earliest we can reschedule is for two days from now. I say that's bonkers, they say there's nothing they can do. I say I want to speak to the manager, they say they can only contact the manager via email and they will call me back. Many hours later - manager does call me back. I say you need to replace the fridge and make sure you send a team who can take the doors off as the aid who did it last time won't be on site, my mom has dementia and my dad is 96 they will not be able to help. They assure me they'll take care of it. What do you think happens next? They send out a team who won't take the doors off. I speak to the guy (in Spanish, I don't know how I'd have handled any of this if I didn't speak Spanish), and he says he will definitely go back he's just waiting for permission from the store to take the doors off. He does not go back. He does not respond to calls or texts. At 8 p.m. that night someone from Lowe's calls me and we go around again. We now have delivery scheduled for Thursday. Then - they send a new team out. My mom with dementia self-destructs, insists the fridge is too big and won't fit (it is the same exact fridge they ALREADY delivered, it definitely fits), and the guys leave. I call again, explain what happened. Say we want someone to come out Thursday not the next day as we need to make sure the aid is present to help. They schedule delivery for Thursday. Later that afternoon a customer service guy randomly calls me (I have not requested this), is concerned about what has happened, says he will schedule delivery for the next day (when aid is not available) and when I try to protest we actually need it Thursday, he has put me on hold, where he leaves me for 20 minutes and never returns. He calls me back, inexplicably, at 8 p.m. that night, at which point I just go fine deliver it Wednesday we'll hope for the best. Miracle of miracles, they DO deliver it, they DO take the doors off and it DOES work, but I lost many hours of my life and experienced some of the worst customer service I have ever had. The worst part of it all is three separate people said the following phrase to me: "I want to get this figured out for you, because at the end of the day, I'm also a customer." Yeah, that might have meant something if you didn't train all your staff to say it. So, if your gut says, we probably shouldn't order from Lowe's, it's going to be a disaster, you are correct. Listen to your gut.

I could order via their website but the fastest delivery to the store would take 14-16 days. My neighbor suggested Murray Supply Corporation in Medford. I called them late in the afternoon and I talked to Garry. Garry promised to get State Select Direct Vent Water Heater for 40 gallons in 24 hours in his store. Next morning he called me around 8:00 AM to let me know that the item arrived in his store. I was planning to pick it up but my car was in the shop. Garry offered next day delivery. Driver called me in the morning to let me know that he has left. He arrived in 30 minutes and helped d me to move the water heater. We installed the water heater with no problems and we had no issues. It is quite rare to receive such service nowadays. Chains do not care about your needs. They take their sweet time. I recommend Murray Supply to everybody!

The parts that connect the water gauge to my home's steam heat boiler was leaking water. Little…read moredid I know that Lowe's or Home Depot only sells the glass tube (which they don't cut). At least the Lowe's employee in Malden was friendly and suggested Murray's or JW plumbing nearby. Since JW was closer and appeared to be a larger chain, I naturally went there (I may review them later). First of all if you're a woman, I don't recommend going into JW like I did unless you're there for their show room or really know what you're doing. What I needed seemed simple on YouTube... A clerk at the front help desk did try his best to look in his computer inventory and shelves, but couldn't find the parts and told me to come back a week later. I went back, only to discover they they still didn't have the items. Knowing there was another location in Boston, I tried calling them in advance to ask for the parts. The man on the phone gave me a quote which totaled about $3 (for two brass bolts with the corresponding washers) and a name of a person at the counter who could help me, but when I got there Cisco wrote up a bill for $12. There's no price tags, I was tired from running around, so I didn't argue, but it felt dishonest. After my husband installed the items, we realized we needed the full gauge glass kit, because I found a leak with the valve and my newly purchased blue washers warped and broke the glass... why did I share this? Things happen when you DIY and Murray's was a breath of fresh air. It's smaller, so when you go inside you directly face a counter, with all the clerks standing behind it. I asked for the items, and they quickly found it for a reasonable if not better cost (compared to online). They offered to cut the glass for free, recognize you when you go back, are friendly, and even and threw in a couple of extra washers when I asked for backups. Go to Murray's first and it'll save you a lot of time!
