I hired this company to regrade around my shed, replace an old wood deck with composite, and install pavers with a fire pit. The experience was frustrating from day one. A crew member tossed cigarette butts into my bushes--caught on my security camera. I reported it, and while the project manager apologized, that set the tone for what followed: poor communication, sloppy work, and disregard for my property. The deck didn't line up with the pavers/basement wall as promised. I warned them early, but they ignored it. Worse, I discovered they reused painted wood from my old deck in the new build--clearly trying to cut corners. After I confronted them, they agreed to fix it. Reviewing security footage, I found that one worker brought his wife and three kids (one looked about 5 years old) to help with demolition removal. I raised serious concerns about safety and liability. The company gave vague reassurances but offered no real accountability. During a return visit, their carpenter admitted to hitting my mailbox--he waited until he was leaving to tell me. Security footage showed him knocking it over and dragging it under his van before screwing it back onto the post. It's still damaged. They tried to regrade several times with just a guy and a shovel, despite our agreement that the job required heavy equipment due to nearby tree roots. Only after repeated complaints did they finally bring a bobcat to finish the work properly. The deck was eventually extended but still came up short on one side. For nearly $40,000 in grading, pavers and a significant deck project, I expected professionalism. Instead, I got cut corners, damage to my property, child labor concerns, poor oversight, and repeated failures to meet clear agreements. I absolutely do not recommend this company. read more

Based on my initial dealing with this company, I had very high hopes and expectations. I worked directly with Anthony who ensured me that he understood what I wanted and while the job was done, the process was far from smooth. The communication is very inconsistent, they only reach out and communicate when its time to pay but they are unable to communicate simple updates about the project. Aside from the poor communication they were also very unprofessional. Workers would go in and out of my closed backyard multiple times, using the bathroom in my yard, step on my things and moving things in my backyard. Despite communicating my concerns, I never felt they were taken seriously and I am just happy to no longer have to work with them. I hired Green Future Construction to remove 3 very large trees near my house. Their quote was the lowest of the four I got and I was surprised by how low it was ($6.5K, while others were in the $8.5-12k range). the crew did a great job of what was difficult and dangerous work. They were highly professional, courteous and diligently cleared up when they'd finished. The negative part of my experience with this company was dealing with the staff in their office. Scheduling and communications were terrible. They told me it was a two-day job but it turned into a three and a half day job which spread over 12 days. The crew stared work on a Friday, so I was expecting they would finish on Saturday but the crew informed me on Friday evening that they don't work on Saturday! whoever heard of a landscaping company that doesn't work on Saturday? So, they left my garden looking like a war zone all weekend, with huge tree trunks and branches strewn all over the lawn. As the company had told me it was a two-day job, I certainly wasn't expecting that! In short, this company is very competitive on price, highly professional in the work they do but their performance on planning, scheduling and communications was truly awful. read more

We had a very positive experience working with Green Future to rebuild some exterior stairs at our home in DC. Our inquiry began when our home inspector identified several potential problems on the outside of our home. Green future was one of the companies we had come out to look at the problem spots and give us an assessment and a quote. We later hired them for the work that we needed, because they were the most professional, organized, and responsive. We had Green Future, led by Anthony, complete 3 projects for us: regrade a small spot along the side of our house, bury the drainpipe in the backyard and extended it away from the foundation/basement, and replace the stairs coming off the kitchen door. Anthony and his team made sure everything about our contract was in order, he got our project scheduled very quickly, and he saw to it that everything was done well and on time. The team completed every part of our project in just 3 days. And when rain washed away some of their work at the end, he made sure we'd still get a quality work product from them. My only complaint is the very short time window for the final payment--5 days, which also came without a final reminder the day it was due. I lost track of it until the company called on day 6, by which time we faced a 10% late penalty! This one gripe aside, we plan to work with Green Future again when we're ready to take on additional projects to spruce up our backyard. read more

Nearly 2 years ago, we planned to hire a landscaper for a couple of projects which included a custom horizontal style fence and a retaining wall spanning a large perimeter section of our lob-sided backyard. I came across Green Future Construction at that time. The owner Ilie came to our home and provided an estimate within 24 hours. I immediately noticed something different about him than the other landscaping companies I was interviewing. He didn't use sensationalist salesmanship tactics, try to upsell me on features I wasn't interested in, nor did he quiver at the sight of a custom horizontal fence picture I showed him off the internet. He very confidently stated "Yes, we can build that for you". We did not hire them right away because we didn't want to rush in without obtaining competitive estimates. Many other fence companies we met with seemed timid about taking on the project because the fence was too customized, required "advanced carpentry skills" their installers lacked, and just wasn't a job they could bang out in a day and be on their way. While we were able to find one or two landscape "architectural" firms that were capable and willing to deliver a solution, their pricing was way over-architected. I reached out to Ilie again and despite my lack of response to his initial proposal from 2 years ago, he immediately replied and was back onsite the next day. We went over the original estimate and modified some details including a custom pergola over the fence entry gates and within days we were ready to roll! His staff showed up on time every day and we discussed the minute details and every aspect of the project as it was progressing. Ilie, and or Iuri our assigned the project manager were onsite every day to oversee the project and convey any small changes to the carpenters and stone masons. Long story short, the end-result was more than we could have possibly imagined! IMO, both the fence and retaining walls could easily be featured in a landscaping magazine! That custom pergola over the entry gates too... NAILED IT! I thought the final product might look somewhat similar to what we envisioned, but nothing to this degree. Green Future Construction took our vision and literally brought it to life. No only that, they delivered expert craftsmanship with honest and fair pricing that didn't make us feel like we were being taken for a ride. If it's not obvious by now, I would highly recommend Green Future Construction and without a doubt, we will 100% hire Green Future Construction exclusively for all our future landscaping needs, not only for their value, professionalism, reliability, honesty, and trustworthiness to do business with, but their entire staff are also incredibly friendly and willing to do whatever it takes to make clients happy, so long is clients themselves are reasonable of course. The estimator & phone service was outstanding. The tree removal, trimming, poison ivy treatment & clean up was exceptional. But some of the workers attitudes, behavior & work practice was unprofessional. They dumped a previous jobs tree stumps in front of my house & mulched them prior to starting my project (this should have been accomplished where ever they got those trees from). Two of the workers decide they would check out my brothers harley motorcycle & one of them sat on it & grabbed handle bars acting like they were driving it. They clearly didn't know I understood some spanish because if they knew that, I don't believe they would have said some things. Lastly, when I pointed out that part of a tree is still over my house & the worker read the work order out loud to confirm all tree limbs will be cut from over my house, the other workers had an attitude that they had to go back up & finish what I paid for. If they train their workers on proper work etiquette and behavior, they would be all around top notch. When getting paid to do a job & its written in plain english what to accomplish, teach them to withhold negative body language & speech & have respect towards property off limits. read more

I am all for leaving great reviews for good service and good companies, but I am also one to leave an honest review even if it is negative. This is how we learn about companies and weed out the ones that could be harmful to us in the end. I have a townhouse in Silver Spring and I'm looking to enclose my back patio with a screened porch. I've called three companies and Green Future was one of them. Their reputation seemed stellar online and so I had very high hopes for a good meeting and estimate from them. When Joey Hafner arrived at my house to see the job and for us to talk about what I wanted, I was a little shocked that not only did he not introduce himself, but he came without any brochures from the company or a tablet that we could look at jobs that have been done that might be similar to mine. Okay, all that can be fixed later. We went out on my patio and I told him what I wanted, which is a screened enclosure. I have an aluminum overhang and I wanted a newer one and possibly raised up a bit. I need one door going from the screened room to the back sidewalk and I needed some cement work done. I already have a cement slab in place, but it needed to be leveled. I had originally asked about flagstone but that seemed to be out of my budget with the company, so I told him that I would be handling the flooring after the room was finished. I wanted an electric hookup so that I could have an overhead fan. Since I had my tablet and computer available, I asked him if he could show me some pictures of screened-in porches his company had already completed and he said he couldn't. He would send me pictures and he would get back to me in a couple of days with some options and pricing. Imagine my surprise when the next communication I got from him was a contract for almost $47,000. The other two companies who provided estimates (with drawings) for exactly what I wanted came in in the low-to-mid 20's. In the contract was included a roof with 25-year shingles which is not what I wanted. I wanted a metal roof to match all the other metal roofs in my neighborhood. It also included two doors, which is ridiculous because they would only be a few feet from each other. It also DID include flagstone, which is what I told him I did not want and that I would handle that later. The pictures that Joey said he would send to me, he never did. The estimates of materials never arrived either. Also included was a $1,800 fee for an architect's drawing. Really? I sent an email to Mr Hafner and to Eli, the owner of the company asking for an explanation of why the contract was sent instead of an estimate. This was so crazy to me that I actually CALLED the owner of the company who told me that this was not his "thing" and that he would talk to Joey, figure out what was wrong with the contract and get back to me. This evening, I received an email and this is a copy and paste of what it said... "Mrs. Harris, My apologies, it seems we have a misunderstanding and that perhaps our services and methods don't serve your needs. I would like to excuse myself from bidding on your project. It was nice meeting you and best wishes on your home and health." So instead of getting back to me and talking about the contract and why the things I didn't want were included - and the things I wanted we're not included - they are completely backing out. I can't help but wonder if this is because some people accept this lack of professional behavior easily. I asked how many panels would be included in the screen porch and would I be able to take the screen panels out in case I needed to repair the screening myself. There was no answer. I have a vinyl wall to my left and a vinyl wall to my right separating me from neighbors and I asked how that would be incorporated and again, there was no answer. I even drove Joey around my neighborhood to show him examples of what I wanted and it didn't seem to matter. I am a single woman in my late 60's and I can't help but wonder if that had anything to do with my treatment. I have 2 Master's degrees, but feel as if I "may" have been treated as an easy mark as many older women might experience. Please understand this is just how I am feeling and not necessarily the truth. I would be disappointed, but such is the game with contractors sometimes. The other two companies who came to my home came with ideas and suggestions - and we sat at my dining room table and talked about what I could do to achieve what I wanted. This was the furthest thing from Mr. Hafner's mind. And you know what? He was right in his letter to me. Their services and methods would NOT serve my needs, which are...first and foremost...integrity, honesty and respect! read more

We had a pretty negative experience with Green Future. We chose this company based on the reviews and we were disappointed. The initial issue began when we submitted a deposit. The check was cashed right away, but we didn't hear from the company at all--no follow up to schedule an appointment. Days later, we called them to schedule an appointment and they said they had to order the window. We were already turned off that the check had been cashed, but no one ordered the new window and we had to initiate contact about scheduling an appointment. Many weeks later, the window arrived and the work was scheduled to begin. The contractors got to the house and did nice job redoing our landscaping; however, the window arrived broken so they could not finish the job. A new window had to be ordered. This took yet another month or so and we were sent an invoice to pay in full even though the job had no been completed. That was quite unusual. Given the contract specified a deposit and final payment, we did not pay until the work was completed. The new window finally arrives and was installed. When we got home that night, there were chunks of concrete and brick around the area. They did not clean up after themselves, which has not been our experience with any other contractors. We paid in full and thought that was the end of it. We already decided we cannot work with this company again. The delays and lack of initiative was disappointing. We had Green come out to fix our landscaping and replace the window because our basement had been flooding with water. Water was coming in through the side window of the basement. After their work, our basement flooded again!! This time, the flooding was going through a different window in the basement. How awful. We made some calls and had someone come check it out. Their evaluation was that while the landscaping helped divert water away from the side window of the house, it did not divert water to the street, BUT diverted water to under the back porch where there was another window. The other window broke due to all the water/pressure build up and water came streaming into the basement. This new contractor dug a trench to divert water to the street and prevent it from going under the back porch. Really, really disappointed that while Green fixed one problem, they created another problem for us, did not take initiative to contact us, wanted us to pay in full before the job was completed, and had multiple delays throughout the process. read more

Our timber retaining wall had deteriorated and we received a notice from the homeowners association that it needed to be repaired. The retaining wall is an L-shaped corner wall that is about 5 feet high at the corner (its tallest point) and about 3 feet high at both ends. The wall height varies because of the slope of the property. The wall stretches about 45 feet along the front and close to 30 feet along the side. Due to the deteriorating timbers and various damage that had accumulated over 35 years, we decided to replace the wall instead of having it repaired. Our new segmented block retaining wall was built by Green Future Construction (Laurel, MD) and we're very happy with it. The segmented block is called Alta Pro in a neutral beige/brown color and is made by Nicolock. Reassuringly, Green Future Construction is included as one of the verified contractors listed at the Nicolock web site. We worked with Joey to get an estimate for the replacement wall which included obtaining the engineering plans and necessary Montgomery County, MD permits, removing the old wall and vegetation, building the new wall with the necessary reinforcement grids, rerouting drainage from two gutter downspouts, and restoring the neighbors lawn which had to be accessed to replace the old wall (one side of the old wall was along the neighbor's property line). Joey was very knowledgeable and helpful in describing possible alternatives for the project. Of the 3 independent estimates that we obtained, Joey's was not only the most helpful, his was also the most reasonably priced. Due to uncooperative weather (winter, 2018-2019), there was a delay in building the wall but once construction began in mid-March, it was built quickly and efficiently. Thomas of Green Future Construction managed the construction details and was very good about explaining how the build would proceed and about giving us a daily progress report on the project once construction started. His extensive experience with retaining wall builds helped us to be comfortable with the extensive work involved. The workers were careful and worked hard every day. One piece of information for anyone replacing an old retaining wall, it appears that Montgomery County code has changed since the 1980's and a gravel backfill now is required behind retaining walls greater than around three feet high. The backfill for the original wall was just dirt. In summary, we are greatly satisfied with the retaining wall work performed by Green Future Construction and especially with Joey and Thomas both of whom we found to be incredibly helpful. Retaining wall plantings and adjacent landscaping were also completed for us as a separate project and were very nicely done. read more

I love Green Future because I was able to get so many things done without the hassle of going to multiple companies. They constructed a beautiful 12x24 composite deck with white vinyl railings and lights, a gorgeous 20x20 paver patio with a retaining wall! We are now able to entertain and be proud of our outdoor living space. Their prices were extremely fair and competitive. Our representative, Eli, was very knowledgeable and patient with us and took the time to understand exactly what me and my husband wanted. He exceeded our expectations and we couldn't be happier!!! Both Pro and Con. The first complaint I have is that, they didn't want to come out to give me an estimate due to the job(remove the stumps)was too small. The gentleman called me the evening before and told me that they are not going to come out due to the size of the job, it makes no sense for him to come out and give me an estimate with the gas price it is today after the appointment is made. I had to take the picture and send it to him for an estimate. And here is my second complaint, after I received an estimate the next morning, and I sent him the signed contract as requested by Green Future. After the contract is signed, Green Future then sent me an email telling me they will come out sometimes this week, if not, it will be early next week. And the email was sent to me on Wednesday or Thursday of last week. Yesterday May 21, someone from the company called me around 5 pm and apologized for not coming out to do the work(due to the weather) and they will try to come out today if the weather permits. Today(5/22) there is no rain or anything. But there is no one show up or call me today either on when they will be coming out. I am frustrated because I do not have a clue when the guy is going to come out and do the work. This is my first time not getting a date and time when the company will come out to do the work. I don't need to get it done RIGHT NOW, at this moment. I definitely would like to know when the work can be done. The Pro of the company is that they will try to accommodate you as much as possible. I found the there is some part of the stump still there and I called. The gentleman(Eli) came out with his guy to take care of it, better yet, he called and let me know that it is done. UNBELIEVABLE! Wouldn't even send me their estimate! I called this company for an estimate to have a 20 year old Japanese Maple removed & replaced (it got ripped up due to an accident from my neighbor). I told them that this was to provide to the insurance company to have it replaced & explained that it was 1 japanese maple & was told they have a $1000 minimum for jobs (the tree alone will cost about $1000 for an equivalent tree), and then they have to completely remove the old one & put the new one. Inspector came out (on a tuesday) & said he would have the estimate to me before the end of the week. I have called several times & was unable to get a response for 3 weeks!!!!! Finally today I receive an email (after calling again) stating that the job is too small and they cant even send me an estimate!!!! IT TAKES 3 WEEKS TO TELL ME THIS?!?!? Wow! I can't say enough about this company, its owner, and the great work they did on my project. We had always struggled to get a nice landscape design to grow in the front of our house. We had several companies over and their proposals were half fixes in my mind because they couldn't handle the removal of the very large trees that were blocking all the sun from the flower beds...Enter Green Future. These guys came over, looked at these massive trees that were very close to my house, and promised they could get rid of these and create us a beautiful landscape without having to subcontract tree removal and masonry services. Next thing you know, a tree removal swat team takes down 6 trees with ease and not even the stumps remain. What also set this company apart was the industrial approach to this project meaning the crew was not afraid to bring in the big equipment to excavate and grind when needed, and measured my soil and mulch needs in yards rather than bags. They didn't skimp on anything. The result is stunning. Couldn't be happier. This company was professional, courteous, responsive, and incredibly rational, reasonable, and took a common sense approach to each part of the project. I was asked multiple times for my input on the landscape installation and if I has happy or wanted to change anything. Green Future provided waterproofing service for our basement water issue. After completion of the waterproofing work within several months water began coming in. I contacted them and they came out and added some clay/dirt to an area that had showed signs of sinking in. Now again even more recently water came in again and I contacted them. I called but received no answer so I left a voicemail but received no call back. After waiting a week I called again and an appointment was made to come out and take a look. I waited for the person and minutes after the appointment time I decided to call since there was a no show. The company said that they emailed me the night before that they were not coming out. Naturally I was upset at this point, so he went on to explain that it was not cost effective for them to come out. The company gave me a five year warranty so therefore I was expecting for them to come out and fix the issue. He stated that my sump pump was not working which I found strange that he even mentioned the sump pump since the french drain they put in actually connects to a dry well, since the entire job was performed outside. The job they performed was never connected to the sump pump therefore it is not relevant. Also the material they used on the wall has started to peel off. Since the company refuses to come out and fix the issue I have been forced to submit a complaint. I have been unable to continue work on my basement because of this water issue. read more

I had a dilemma because I needed a large conifer tree removed, and an older deck and patio replaced. I had several companies give estimates for the work but none of them could complete all three phases of the job. Green Future Construction came to the rescue! The landscaping crew arrived the first day and removed the large tree, including the stump, making sure that the yard was cleared of all debris. Day two, the demolition crew took down the existing deck and started construction of the new one. The deck was completed the next day and the old patio (brick) was removed. The new patio with stone retaining walls was finished the following day. All of this work was completed in one week by professional crews, who were well supervised by the company's owner, Eli. Our crumbling retaining wall (with failing drainage system) along a hilly north Arlington street and sidewalk required a complete demolish and rebuild with extra care to a neighboring adjacent wall. We met with several wall contractors and Eli at GFC had the most realistic cost/approach within our time frame and unique context. He addressed each of our concerns and was genuinely interested in making sure that we were happy with results. He made several suggestions on improvements - lines of communication were always open. We were able to modify/improve the wall project during a stage of the construction, add greenery and smooth out an otherwise difficult landscape, which was more scope than what other companies had offered. The GFC team was fantastic - they worked through the hottest time of the year and even through weekends to get the work done on time. They were polite and professional; they even cleaned up at the end of each work day and at project finish, they left the place cleaner than they had found it. Eli and crew did a great job on our backyard. They removed one large tree, an enormous shrub, and approximately 10 smaller trees, ground all of the stumps, graded the yard, removed an old fence and put in a new one, planted plants, mulched, and planted grass seed all in a matter of days. We had Green Future come out to give us an estimate on removing our concrete walkway and steps and re-doing it with pavers. While they were here, they also looked at the rest of our yard and recommended some other projects. Within 2 days, we had a detailed estimate so we could pick and choose the projects based on our budget. The prices were so good we went ahead with everything! They re-did all of our front landscaping, buried our drainage pipes, build a gravel walkway on the side of our house and trimmed trees that were overgrown and/or storm damaged. We were very impressed with the work crews. They worked all day every day for 4 days to complete the project. The foreman was here frequently to make sure everything was done correctly. We had a couple small miscommunications, but overall, everything was done to our satisfaction. I had to replace my entire front walkway after a construction crew destroyed my yard and former walkway during a pipe replacement project. I contacted Green Futures for an estimate and they came out right away. My contact person was Elvis and he couldn't have been more helpful. They installed a new slate walkway and front stoop and the result is that I now have a beautifully constructed, very solid walkway and stoop that was very expertly crafted.
