Called for a quote on a service. Was told that it required a "disassembly" to complete which would require additional labor. Parts were 160$ but somehow with labor it's over 500$ to replace spark plugs. Shouldn't take more than an hour labor to complete. Called a dealership and was quoted at less than half the cost of this scam shop. Do not come here. You will get overcharged and talked down to like you don't know anything. read more

I have been going to the Green Garage for years and always been happy with the service. They tell you what is going wrong in non-technical language and charge you a fair price for the repair. I have had many problems resolved through the green garage including a brake pad replacement, oil changes, and fluid issues. The staff are all very friendly and knowledge. I would highly recommend going to the green garage, with my previous vehicle. I was a customer of Nelson's garage on Lyndale Avenue. And since moving to South Minneapolis farther away from Lyndale and getting a new vehicle I decided to try the green garage as I can bus there when I leave my car. I called the day prior and the person on the phone was extremely friendly and helpful. When I walked in the morning, I'm dropping off my car. The desk attendant was knowledgeable, knew I was coming in, and was able to give me an approximate pick up time. They even called me earlier than my pick up time to let me know I was done and then I could pick up anytime before 5 PM that day. The cost wasn't unexpected, as I was getting a general oil change and just a look at my car is a hole. Pick up took me maybe 10 minutes total, and I will be going back for any of my car needs. I would highly recommend the green garage. There are a few bus lines nearby if you're able to bus back home while your car is in the shop. Otherwise Eat Street is a great place to bring your work computer and hang out for the day. read more

I drove my car in for a free consultation, due to a clanking noise that I had been hearing. Edgar was super helpful, listened to the car right away and when we couldn't hear the noise after a quick check, he had me leave it and they put the car on the lift and did a full check. They figured out the issue, it was super minor and resolved with a screw. He noted some other possible causes of the noise and made notes to have on file should I need to bring the car in again. It was truly a free consultation, no charge for the minor screw repair, and they filled the air in my tires as well. I was so pleased with how helpful and respectful everyone was and how Edgar took the time to explain everything. And didn't try to sell me work I didn't need! I had a flat tire. I had bought the tires from GG a year ago because the guy behind the counter said, "I bought a set of these for my mom's car." That's good enough for me. But I hate having a flat tire, especially when the weather is very cold. I was able to change to the spare tire inside my unheated garage with the door open and the outside temp was about minus 5 degrees Fahrenheit. This was on a Sunday when GG isn't open. On Monday I was busy with work and not available. I brought my car over on Tuesday early in the afternoon thinking I would have to drop the tire, and return tomorrow. Wrong. They took my car right away, found a metal chip inside the tire, repaired the bead, put away the spare, put on the repaired tire, gave me back my key, all in about 20-minutes, and with a smile. I brought my car in for normal scheduled maintenance because the dealership vastly overcharges and seems to blindly replace things even when it's not needed. I chatted with Caleb at Green Garage and he was always timely in his responses and easy to chat with. I asked that his team inspect the prescribed maintenance before fixing/replacing anything. And when we first discussed the cost I only needed my brakes and rotors replaced which ended up only being one tire, he then tried to rack up the cost on extra things like air filters, shop supplies and more strange things. When first I walked in he said he would keep in mind that I'm a teacher on a budget and after that then he tried to add all these extra things that were not necessary or discussed. Doug seemed trustworthy when I walked in and was extremely disappointed with how he tried to add things onto my bill that were not necessary and I did not ask for. I was about to take my business elsewhere until he took off some extra charges but still felt the cost was unreasonable. When I find a good mechanic I am loyal but I won't return and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It felt like I was being tested and scammed. read more

The last time i went, he quoted me around $500 for a new master cylinder which i understood and was ready to pay for. Then when i arrived, he said "Don't worry about it. Initially I had taken my car to Turbo Tim's, and they told me I needed new brakes, a belt, and a water pump, and wouldn't give me an estimate of when the work would be done, except that I wouldn't get it back before Monday (I brought it in Thursday morning). I thought the estimate was high so I called around - Mike at Green Garage gave me a lower estimate and without me even asking he told me if I brought it in before the end of the day he'd have it back to me the following day. I brought it in and the next day he told me that he'd be happy to take my money, but my brakes still had quite a lot of life and my water pump was fine. I drove here because I'd had good experiences with the previous owner. He apparently has since retired. I was met with the new owner, Edgar, who appeared overwhelmed with the work he had but said he'd diagnose my car issue later in the day. I received a phone call from Edgar telling me I needed a new transmission and quoted me $4,000 to $8,000 (he also said he didn't have time to fix my car). I took it to another, honest, mechanic. Took a while to get ahold of them but they were straight up and to the point about my repair, left me with some info about what my car might need done eventually, and what they were able to do with her while they had it. I was frustrated with not being able to get ahold of them previously but they were kind and friendly. Parking is pretty tight but they were off a bus line which made it easy to get home without a ride and they parked my car somewhere easy to access the street with for me when I came to get it. Nick, the owner, contacted me shortly after my previous review (still included below), took full responsibility for the mistake, and refunded me in full for the battery and second alternator (at cost to them, if my math is right, as I still have the new battery installed). Seems like this was indeed a one-off experience and I am very impressed by Nick's integrity and ownership of the mistake. As I said below, I will definitely be back here next time I need a repair (which with how old my car is, is unfortunately often). [Original Review]: I've had good experiences here in the past, so hopefully this is a one-off experience. Brought in my car for what I suspected was a faulty alternator, but asked them to call me once they verified that was the issue and before they replaced anything (I have an old Toyota with 350k miles on it so it is always a question of how much money is worth putting into any repairs on it). I got a call later that day saying my car was done (no call prior to this with a cost, asking for go-ahead, etc) and to stop by to pick it up. I get to the shop to find out they have replaced my battery and not the alternator. I question them in it and they go run another test, and determine it did not need a battery but does still need the alternator replaced. They were nice enough to order an alternator and still get the car fixed by the end of the day, but when I went to pick it up, I look at the receipt to find they had charged me labor and parts for a battery and TWO alternators. I'm currently in the process of trying to get a refund for the erroneous second alternator charge. Hoping they are back to the better service I have received from them in the past next time I need to bring my car in and that this is only a one-off. read more

I scheduled an appointment over the phone after a light in my 10y/o car inevitably lit up hoping for the best, and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! Along with the light, I stared hearing grinding noises so I was convinced that I was going to walk into a "hefty-bill" situation so I had my fingers crossed. I arrived early and was greeted warmly by Dana (she's amazing!) at the front desk. She got me checked in in record time and explained that the technician would be looking at my car shortly. Short story longer, I waited at the shop for the diagnosis so I could understand what was happening before any non-investigatory work was done. The diagnosis took maybe 20-30 minutes and the technician was SO kind! He explained what was going on and showed me what had been causing the grinding. All-in-all I would come here just for the service. I would much rather put my money towards a business with a friendly and informative staff than some other place where you just pass your keys off to a grumpy tech simply looking for a paycheck. My first visit several months ago was just to ask a few question. They were quickly, positively answered. Today I took my car in for a full synthetic oil change, tire rotation and winter inspection. They had a perfectly timed appointment for me (yes luck of the draw). They had agreed previously agreed to install a part I had intended to purchase myself (I can't say this is normal, but they were quite amenable). Their Winterization Spacial saved me so much money it became obvious that it was easier (and cheaper) for them to source and install the part in question. The waiting area was spotless, comfortable & bright. All employees were friendly and in good humor (I always take this as a good sign). I decided to try a new shop to get an oil change. My husband also took his work truck in for some power steering work. Yea, it's us. Two days later my car wouldn't start and I brought it back in and was told I needed a new battery and alternator. The same day my husbands truck was worked on his brakes seized. I paid about $600 for the work on my van and my husband paid about $700 for the work done on his. When my husband brought his truck back they were super apologetic and offered to replace his brake caliper at cost with no labor. Seems nice right? Just another $400 The repair still failed and he went elsewhere. Our new mechanic says the caliper was not replaced. It's not a new caliper. They are taking pictures of the work on my husbands truck and my van will be getting looked over too. Don't go here. So disappointing to find this shop mislead us and lied to us. He said then and still says now that they are the most honest mechanics in the business, and I couldn't agree with him more. Speaking only from my own experience with them, they are awesome. They give honest advice geared toward a customer's needs, not their own profit. I asked them to give my car an overall checkup when I was getting that long-ago oil change, and they called back and gave me a brief overview, mentioned some potential repairs that would help but that weren't necessary, and, when I asked for advice, said that the cost wouldn't make sense given the car's age. More recently, my husband and I had a major issue with our shared car two days before we were due to drive up north for a vacation. Went in to get an oil change and to check on a light. As soon as I walked in I was told to move my car off the property. During that interaction and the phone call when my car was done I was talked to very rudely, and talked down to as though I wouldn't understand anything. They also told me they couldn't diagnose my light because the diagnostic person wasn't in. When I went in to pick up my car I had my partner with me, and suddenly I was treated way better (by the same person I'd interacted with all day). They broke parts off my car while changing the front right wheel bearing, charged me full price to replace them & kept my car overnight for 5 days, which we had not planned for. I was supposed to get the car back at the end of the day I took it in. They also seemed to wait until the end of the day on the 5th day to replace my air filter? or so I was told, so I waited in the lobby after close on the 5th day to make sure I got my car back. Now my ABS light is on and my front right wheel wobbled the more I drove after. Will NOT be returning, *Green Garage* work on your time management skills! Also, one of my wheel studs on my right front tire (the same tire they changed the wheel bearing on) broke off while driving several days after and the lug nut went flying somewhere on the highway. If you'd like to be charged a grand, dance with risky repairs and have one ABS sensor damaged in the process, then, yes go here! Happily taking my car elsewhere. read more
