Thought I was happy to have a neighborhood garage nearby. Got ripped off there some years ago and haven't been back. My vehicle had trouble starting. They said it was my alternator, so I replaced it. Continued to have issues. They then said it was my generator, so I replaced it. Continued to have issues. Happened to be on army duty soon after and during a stop at Walmart in Tomah,WI, their mechanic informed me that I simply had a bad battery. With waining trust in mechanics, I replaced it. Wouldn't ya know, I had no trouble after that! So after several visits and two UNNECESSARY repair$, it just took a simple battery test. You'd think that would be Mechanic 101 stuff...unless you have other motive$, that is? Don't like being cheated! Haven't been back. read more

Go somewhere else unless you enjoy paying 3 times what it's worth. Took my vehicle here looking for a good mechanic, this place was recommended online (somehow) So i brought it in knowing it needed an alternator. They said it would be nearly $800 to fix that. Told me the alternator alone cost $450. Absolutely nuts. A high end alternator for my vehicle is at most $170. Told them no. Ended up towing it to a different shop. Don't waste your time. I should've known this place was suspect when I called: they pick up the phone as if you are a little child and they're your aunt who hasn't seen you in years. Uncomfortably nice and over the top high pitched voices trying to win you over. Confused why there are so many good reviews - they must play favorites, give out some good deals, then overcharge other people to make up for it. Definitely not an amigo of mine. read more

Awesome place for my car! Beep beep! I have an old manual car (shoutout to all my stick shift drivers - woot!) and am so happy to have found a place that actually knows what they are doing when it comes to manual cars. From having my oil changed, to tires, brakes, you name it - this place is great! What I love the most is that they are honest with you. I had a situation in which the part that my car needed was a bit expensive, so rather than ripping me off - they gave me different options to ensure I got what was needed at the best value. I have been a loyal customer of amigos for the last 2 decades. 8+ of my cars have exclusively been serviced at amigos for their entire lives. Amigos used to be the good-guys, they aren't anymore. AVOID THIS SHOP. Story time. 6 weeks ago I initially brought in my 2015 Honda Fit because it was running a little rough, and I needed a simple oil change and tire rotation. The following day I get a call from Todd, he lets me know they have identified a bad coil and potentially a bad spark plug that were causing missfires. I approved replacing the bad coil and plug. Fast forward to the next day. They have made the swap, I get another call. Turns out they miss-diagnosed the issue and it actually has a clogged injector. Replacement injectors were nearly 2k so I decided to wait on replacing them. I go in to pick up my car and it turns out they decided to swap all 4 coils and plugs. What should have been $150 in work was nearly $1200. They had identified what cylinder was misfiring, they were just running up the meter by replacing the others. Whatever. I was frustrated, but maybe it was just an missunderstanding. Fast forward 2 days. As I pulled onto the highway I hear a loud thumb and a dragging sound on the road. I pull over to discover 3 of the 4 bolts that hold the plastic tray over the oil pan are missing. I limp over to a hardware store and ziptie up the bellypan to get it back to the shop. So I return to amigos and request they go back and correctly attach the cover. After a 2 hour wait they return my car to me. Good to go. Probably a honestly mistake. Fast forward to this morning. As I pull onto the highway once again I hear the bellypan hit the ground. I pull over again and get under the car. All of the zipties I had used to bandaid the bellypan were still there. Amigos just sat there for 2 hours then returned my car pretending they had replaced the missing bolts. IF AMIGOS CANT DO A $20 OIL CHANGE WOULD YOU TRUST THEM TO DO SERIOUS WORK? Dealing with car issues is totally out of my comfort zone, but the staff at Amigo Service Center were friendly, efficient, and honest. I called in the evening, was able to drop it off the next morning and pick it up just a few hours later. They explained what they found in a way I could understand, and were upfront about certain fixes not being necessary with the timeframe I was looking to replace my vehicle in. My car had broken down on June 4th and at first I thought I could fix it myself. It was either a battery or an alternator or both. I went to the NAPA parts store across the street to get what I needed to clean my battery corrosion and that's where I met Todd from Amigo. Gave me lots of information and wished me luck. I couldn't keep it running so it had to be the alternator. I didn't trust myself installing a new alternator and I'm always hesitant about a new mechanic, but I'm not anymore with any future car problems I could have. Todd and his crew did a fantastic job all around from the repairs to the cost to the customer service. I was initially pleased with the customer service here, but then (as is wont to happen with auto repair) received a surprise charge when I went to pick my car up -- this was especially disappointing as I had confirmed multiple times that I would be given a quote before authorizing any additional work. I was leaving town for a week and was hoping to find a shop that could put on my winter tires, check out my washer fluid system, and hold my car until I returned. Amigo was the fifth shop I called and I was thrilled that they had room for my car. I explained that I needed the tires mounted and that my washer fluid reservoir had frozen and since thawing out it wasn't working -- I was guessing the pump was shot. The guy I spoke to was very friendly, and I was given a quote of $90 for mounting the tires (comparable to what other shops in the area told me) and that they could take a look at the pump, and would call me with a quote before doing any work on it. I dropped my car after hours and had no issues with the drop box system. I filled out a form explaining what I needed done. I checked the option noting (again) that I would be called with a quote before any work was done. When I hadn't heard from them a week later, I called to check in. I was told that the tires were done and that the washer pump was fine, they just had to "blow out the lines." I confirmed that the tire change would cost me $90 and asked if there would be any fee for the washer stuff -- I was told that there would not be. I went to pick up my car today and, to my surprise, received a bill of $180. I was told that my washer squirters were replaced. I explained that I had called the day before and was told that the only fee would be the $90 for the tires, but the shop was busy and I was in a hurry so I just paid the $180 (though I wish now that I would have argued a bit more). My bill says the additional $90 fee was for unclogging the washer squirters and cleaning debris from the washer tank. Had I known this was the issue, I definitely would have taken a stab at cleaning it out myself with some compressed air before paying to have it done. Primarily, I'm frustrated that I had been told multiple times that I would receive a quote before anything like this was done. Too bad, because everyone I spoke to was friendly and I was happy to find a good shop close to home... I guess the search continues. read more

Just updating my experience with the Amigo guys. They just changed the oil on my car. Before closing the hood they wiped down the engine. REALLY?!? They actually sprayed a little cleaner on the engine and wiped off any random drops of oil. Talk about attention to detail - this is why I won't take my cars anywhere else! read more

I took my car in for a repair and they broke a part and didn't tell me about it. When I noticed it, the guy who worked on the car lied and told me he didn't do it. I talked to the owner (Todd) and showed him the broken part. His response: "It's a pretty old car. Stuff breaks." I said, "You're blaming my CAR? The part was fine when I brought it in here. Now it's broken." He said he'd "try to find the part and give me a call if he could." To his credit, he did find the part for me, although I had to install it myself. Todd's a great guy, but they're not real careful around there. I understand that mistakes happen and people screw up, but if you make a mistake you own up to it and make it right. You DON'T lie about it. A few days after I took my car in, I got a call from my credit card company. They said someone had charged $15,000 on my card and they were wondering if it was me. It was a brand new card, and Amigo was the ONLY place I had used it. Amigo uses one of those old-style credit card imprinters and they're pretty careless about leaving receipts around where people can see them. I'm guessing either a dishonest employee grabbed the number or a dishonest customer saw it lying on the counter. Either way, if you use a card there, make sure they don't leave your receipt out where someone can see it. This shop is very popular, and all my friends in the neighborhood take their cars there. I'm not the only person I know who's had a bad experience, but mine sure was lousy. I'd love for this to be my neighborhood shop, but sadly, I won't be going back. read more

It took them 15 minutes to do a complete check of my car, change oil, and change headlights. They checked the box that they vacuumed but clearly had not-what else did they not do on that checklist? Synthetic oil runs between $20-50 on average-I was charged 50. Labor costs per hour are $20-60 per hour-I was charged $33 for 15 min. read more

Had a flat tire and went to them to have it patched, put back on, and oil changed. They were booked solid that Sat so I made an appt for 7:30am Monday morning. Monday comes and I dopped off my car and walked the two blocks home and fell back asleep. They called me a few hours later letting me know it was done. I didn't mind when they would finish. So all was good. Good prices, courteous service, reasonably quick. Fast forward 6 months and I go to change my oil before a big car trip. The oil pan lug nut is overtightened. I cannot remove it. I have someone else mechanically inclined try a go at it and they equally failed. I know righty-tighty lefty-loosy, and have changed my oil and filter before. I've also changed my brake pads, replaced my alternator, spark plugs, and flushed my radiator, so I know enough that I'm confident it wasn't my lack of ability. After applying liberal amounts of WD-40 and using about an 8" extension on my socket wrench, I eventually striped it. I was very upset, and called them up. The guy who was probably one of the head mechanics was there as he mentioned he had 2 guys who ONLY did oil changes. Since that was the case, he was skeptical of my claims, but at the same time respectful of me and sorry of the possible mistake. I just wanted the nut off and asked him if he could do this, but since it was the day before a major holiday I understood when he said he was the only guy there and was overbooked as it was. Taking it to another shop, they confirmed it was overtightened as I watched them pound a large hammer on a 2.5 foot lock wrench to remove it (it wasn't rusted on). I would still recommend them as I feel they have good intentions and everyone makes mistakes. If I start seeing a stream of 1 or 2 star reviews though, I would think otherwise. P.S. Amigo's has been a good and reliable friend to me and my little car. I have been coming here for oil changes for almost two years. On the weekends it can take up to an hour, but other times it's taken less than 30 minutes. The employees are extremely friendly and helpful. I usually hate waiting around at auto repair shops, but with their nice waiting area (lots of magazines and a TV) I don't mind one bit. Sometimes I'll take a quick walk over to Gigi's for brunch. If there is a problem with my car they let me know right away, but they don't make me feel pressured to use their services. Unfortunately, Amigo's charges a bit more for an oil change than I care to spend. I suppose what keeps me coming back is the great service and how they always vacuum the front of my car. read more

I'm very happy with all the service I've had done at Amigo. I drive a 97 Honda, and in the past year I've had the following work done: - oil changes. Cheaper than at Valvoline, and almost as fast, which is pretty neat for a place that doesn't claim they have an "instant" oil change. - brake check. Brakes were shuddering, starting to scare me a bit on the highway - I took the car in, and they had to replace the calipers, which was scary but they did a good job and the car feels great now. Quick repair and well priced. - door handle broke. The driver's side door handle broke last fall, and I couldn't close the door. Took it to Amigo and they rigged it up with washers so that the door could be closed and locked till the part came in. Quick repair and well priced. - general check-up. I took the car in two weeks ago for a check up before a road trip. They made recommendations regarding repairs, all of which were good and fairly priced, but what blew me away was that I said "You know, I'd only like to do this and this, and skip that and that." And they said: "That's great. No problem." There was no pressure, not even an insinuation that I would destroy my life by forgoing repairs. In recession times, that's an amazing thing. In general: they've always treated me well. Some repair shops talk down to women, or obviously dumb down terms. These guys don't. They're just fantastic. read more

You know that feeling when you intended to get into work early and you go to start your car and it won't start? You Google some, call the dealer to describe the issue (they are dumb-founded), and tinker with a few things yourself with no luck. The dread sinks in that you may need a tow, followed by an (even more) expensive diagnosis and repair. Luckily for me, after all of the above occurred I decIded to walk over to Amigos and see if someone could come take a quick look. Todd greeted me immediately at the desk and sprung into action. He sent Joe over to my house with me to assess the problem right away. Within moments (not minutes, but mere seconds) Joe had identified and FIXED the problem (a flooded engine). He then sent me on my way with a brief lesson on how it happened so I can avoid it in the future, and also how to solve it myself next time. They didn't charge me a penny for being good neighbors. I only wish I had walked over to Amigos sooner. If I could give them ten stars I would!! read more

ago Critical: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Value Took my son car in to replace motor. He bought a motor that had a warranty of 3 months. When my son picked it up and he said that the turbo that has been on there for year causes blew motor which is a lie. When my son picked it up when he pulled out on road he notice there was barley power. He turned around brought it back and told Juan and he said it was a due to oxygen sensor needed to be reboot and send off without looking back to Edmond. He drove it only couple hundred miles and motor started the knocking again. Towed it as soon as it started to home than to the shop. Juan is giving us a run around on the warranty saying that the shop that he bought motor from out of state needs to come look at it to see about the warranty. He has now had it for over 2 weeks and will not tell us when it will be looked at. Very unprofessional! Plus my son took it to hynandi dealer to fix oxygen sensor and was told it was the motor and that Juan didn't attach hoses right and some not connected. Told Juan about hoses was not connected and he said it will not cause the problem inside of the motor. He still has our car and will not tell us anything about it. I WILL NOT EVEN GIVE HIM ONE STAR! Brought my cars here for 15 years. I believe they had some of their good mechanics leave, because now it's a bunch of guys 35 or younger. This explains the fact that I brought my cars in for repairs the last five times and none of the issues were fixed. Each problem cost me north of $600 as well. Ended up taking my car to the dealership each time and the problems were fixed for less money and they told me Amigo worked on the wrong things. I spoke with Todd about getting refunds for work that did not address the issues with my cars. No dice. He gave me the "our repairs could have fixed part of the issue". My father's a mechanic and I've spent a lot of time fixing my own cars. Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining. read more

My mother always taught me that every woman needs a good hair stylist and a good mechanic. I haven't asked the guys at Amigo to cut my hair, but they do a great job on my car. I know they've had at least two opportunities to rip me off and they didn't do it. Occasionally, they even do minor things (like fixing my license plate holder--I didn't have the tools) free of charge. I've been going to Amigo for 11 years, and they've always been great. read more

Taken car here 3+ times now. Always fast, friendly, honest with good explanations. They needed an extra part to finish but let me drive away without paying until they finished a week later. That showed me something. Asked them to check the brakes and told them they likely needed replacing. They cleaned them for free and said they would last another six months before needing to be checked again. That too showed me something. Won't go anywhere else. read more

I'm new to Minneapolis, MN and needed brakes for my truck. At first I went to a small mom & pop shop nearby and asked for a quote but they were a bit disorganized and it would take too long for the job and quote I decided to look for something else nearby and found Amigo a couple blocks away. At first they took all day to give a quote, which put me at Friday 4pm and kinda forced to go with them if I wanted to have my brakes done by Monday. They quoted labor at a very steep but doable rate for a rush job, but they overcharged me for parts in over 100% and they get their parts right across the street at Napa, where I went on Friday morning after dropping off my car to have a ballpark of parts cost. Even if I had done the job with the most expensive parts they had I'd still pay about $50 cheaper, so they gave me the option of buying my own parts after I complained and they would just charged me for the labor. So I bought the parts and dropped them off at their shop and asked after they checked everything if that was going to be my full cost with them and answer was YES! On Saturday I got 2 calls from AMIGO with additional costs for labor and a $30 extra charge for parts that according to him were necessary to complete the job and said I could just come and pick up the car if I didn't agree with the costs. I had no choice if I wanted my car back by Monday, and was far away from the sjop to do anything about it and had to pay the price. Later that same day I found out that my Mother-in-Law took her car there once and they forgot to put OIL in it, we just talked briefly about it and I don't know yet the outcome of that but will ask again. THESE GUYS ARE WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE BUSINESS, I WILL NEVER TAKE MY CAR THERE AGAIN AND WILL NEVER LET ANY OF MY FRIENDS DO THE SAME. AMIGO IS THE ENEMY!!
