Have you been to Green Light yet? It's in a small, unassuming strip mall (slightly overshadowed by the liquor store next door, but once you have been to Green Light, you won't even notice the neighbors any more, so intent are you on getting INSIDE!), with plenty of ample parking. Inside, you'll find new and used records, tapes, and cds. (I mean, of course!) The walls are covered with interesting new releases and rare recordings. The bins are a joy to peruse, especially the 45s. Larger musicians have their own tabs, otherwise it is alphabetical. You'll find much here that you'll love, but it will also be hard to stay on budget. Luckily, they have a frequent buyer card (in $5 increments). Our favorite part is digging through the 45s. It's a trip down memory lane, with laughter galore. I cannot believe the 80s fashion that ended up on record sleeves (I know, I wore it myself, but not in such a...memorable way). The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The music playing is especially interesting. And, although we haven't done it yet, they do purchase music from customers (hence the enormous selection of records for us to discover treasures within!). Previously, my favorite record store was Electric Fetus in Minneapolis. This has definitely replaced it, both for warmth and service. Go! read more

Came in because I'm always on the hunt to reestablish my movie collection for cheap. I used to have over 300 DVDs but sadly had to sell. Places like Green Light help me get on the right track to get my collection back to its original glory. How I Met Your Mother season one and two were a no brainers to grab. My husband grabbed 'Inglorious Bastards' and 'Ray'. As we were about to go to the counter an amazing B-movie looking DVD caught my eye. 'Frogs', my favorite animal has a movie starring Sam Elliot for $2.99? Yes please. The employee was pretty laid back but also helpful. We were greeted when we came in and asked us if we needed anything. When checking out he told us about their stamp program where get a stamp every $5 you spend and eventually get something. So glad we stopped and will be back to find more treasures. read more

I love this place! Was just in twice recently and found CDs I absolutely love. Never would have even thought to buy these new! That is the advantage of browsing - who knows what will catch your interest. And when the price is under $5. I have sold some CDs here but he does check them with a magnifier and will reject when they're worn. And remember just don't try to unload you collection, but buy! I'm a big fan of Thomas Quasthoff and ran across his jazz album. What! Never liked operatic singers trying to go mainstream - they still fall into that opera voice. Not Thomas! This is pretty good. I also check Vinyls. Problem is my tastes are eclectic; now looking more to minimalists, select new age types, world music, Mahler. Well those never sold much anyway so harder to find used. read more

This is literally not a good record store. I was expecting a place with rows upon rows of vinyl. I saw the exact opposite. There was some type of an half asses attempt to organize the record by music genre. The workers were super standoffish and awkward. Maybe they are not used to having customers. Possibly the best place to chill out and listen to good music! Amazing selection of records. To be able to find early Prince, Roger Taylor, TWO best hits of the 70s (original artists), and about 10 45s of various 80s hits all for around 30 dollars still blows my mind. They have amazing quality control with their records. Minimal to no scratches on all of their used records, NEVER anything that would affect the sound. HIGHLY recommend their stamp card. I thought I would get one for the sake of having one, but two months in and I'm already halfway to 5 dollars off (to fuel my addiction). They have a fairly good selection of Cassettes (which is my preferred choice, and where I first started collecting) but the prices can be fairly high for that form of listening. I suggest the sale bin for tapes, which are 25 cents instead of 99 cents up to 4 dollars. the only complaint I have is that some of the 45s are not placed in the right spot. They go in alphabetical order, and on occasion we will find a few out of place. Once or twice we have seen a 45 without a cover in there, too. Prices are a little bit high, and the guy behind the counter I wouldn't accuse of being the friendliest person all the time, but overall I still enjoy buying records and cd's here, and if I'm in the area I'll stop by and spend some money. Went here for the first time yesterday, driving an hour north from Michiana. The trip was well-worth it. Here's why: (1) great selection of used and new (and RSD leftovers if that's your thing). (2) A robust "new arrivals" used section so frequent customers can see what's come in since they last visited. (3) The owner hand cleans most/all of the used LPs. So the albums are ready to play. If the LP has a mark, it's easy to tell and you can then test it out on a turntable set up for customers. (4) No inventory is online. So you have to visit the local store, and as a result, there are lots of rare and interesting albums at decent prices. (5) Enjoyed talking to the owner about jazz pressings, only wish I could return once every couple of weeks to look over the new arrivals section. I'll be back whenever in the area. read more

If you crave 45s from the 1980's, Green Light is your Valhalla. The overall selection is fair to good, and things are well organized and there's no danger of claustrophobia that condemns some record stores. If I had found a sweet 12" (or if they weren't playing some gawd awful death metal album the entire time I was there) I'd consider giving this place five stars. As it stands, I'll certainly hit this place up anytime I'm in Kzoo. You never know when I'm going to need more Kenny Loggins 7 inches. read more

Went in with some vinyl to be looked at to sell. The worker was rude. Didn't even say hello or how can I help you. After holding this heavy stack of albums, we finally just sat them on the counter. He totally wasn't in to looking at them, or even giving an opinion on a few albums that we would have liked to know what they would possibly sell for. He bought only 4 of the albums, so we took our business to Satellite Records and sold almost all of them, and since they were so much more personable, we donated the rest of the albums and now will not return to Greenlight Music! If you have a business dealing with the public, please at least have some good customer service!!! read more

But after checking out nearly all the record stores within a one-hour trek of Kzoo, I can comfortably say that this is the one I always come back to. Nice selection of new and used albums. He keeps his store well stocked with new and used vinyl, cds, dvds, etc..I can't tell you how many gems I have gotten from his store. Great staff. Someone will be able to answer any question you have about music. Good mix of new and used. More new stuff than Corner. I like the collectible and rare section. They have a listening station which is very helpful in checking for condittion. The staff is really good about only getting records in good condition, but I check anyway. I hope they do well and expand. Good classical and jazz section. This store seems to get good weird 90's stuff, punk, and alternative too, not just the standard Pink Floyd and Led Zep. Good prices. For a time, there were no vinyl record stores in Kalamazoo, so this shop is a welcome addition to the city. The new and used vinyl selection has become quite extensive over the years. More importantly, the staff is very selective about what used records they have for sale which of course translates to not having to browse through piles of dreck.
