Service is top notch here. Very patient waiters and waitresses. We had no idea what we wanted and they waited patiently adding no pressure for us to rush to order. I wanted the mango sticky rice and was disappointed to hear it is out of season. It is a seasonal item so will come back for it when it's in season. The sausage and sticky rice plate is a best seller item so that's what I got. It was delicious. Parking can be challenging as it is in a strip mall and shared with multiple businesses, most of them food places. We parked in the street because the lot was full. Ambiance is unique. Clean and modern. Lots of references to foodie Guy Fieri who visited the establishment before. This is a local small business, they deserve our support! This place has really gone downhill. The nam tok beef salad should have been made with thinly sliced beef, but instead the pieces were thick and unappetizing. It was also overcooked, making the meat extremely chewy, and it barely had any flavor. I drove all the way from Southern California because I was excited to eat here, but it ended up being a huge disappointment. I also ordered the khapoon, which was much too sweet. The only thing I enjoyed was the sticky rice. Overall, it was a waste of money. I won't be coming back. I've been a fan of Green Papaya since discovering them as a food truck at UC Davis and I'm so glad they have a brick and mortar. It's a casual ambiance, order at the register, then seat yourself and they bring your food out. My go-to has always been the yellow curry with chicken, but decided to try their basil chicken most recently and it was delicious! The sauce had a sweetness to it that was well balanced by the basil, but I do wish they added Thai chilis for some spice like authentic Pad Kra Pao. You also can't go wrong with any of their noodle dishes. They have vegan options as well and my family loves the papaya salad. I just came from a hangout with my friends in stockton and we all wanted to eat some thai food. We saw this down the road and wanted to try it. The place inside had room for seating and not that many people there when we got there. The place is you order first and pay first before you sit down and eat. It is kind of like a Cafe style restaurant. We ordered the platter plate, vegetarian curry, and chicken larb. I have to say that everything was very good. The food was great, especially the sampler platter, priced perfectly and the serving sizes were definitely worth the price and more. We shared the Pad Thai (my personal pick) and the Yellow Curry, which is my husband's favorite because of its creamy texture. We also added the Crab Fried Rice and the Fried Riblets. This was perfect for the rainy weather. I really loved their broth it was well seasoned and I didn't need to add any additional seasoning. I liked that they provided pickled peppers to go with this. It was the perfect touch for the noodle soup. I also ordered a side of Thai tea not featured and thought it was on the sweeter end for my taste buds. Heard great things about this restaurant and, on a road trip, stopped in to find a fantastic, family owned, Lao small business in Stockton! The owners were extremely friendly, take the time to talk and be social when it's not busy, and jump in to work when things get busy! The menu is BIG, I mean real BIG! I think the menu is 20+ pages?! Maybe more! The portions are huge as well, I don't know what it is, but I love big portions (sometimes)! The food in a word is incredible! Very tasty, very well seasoned and plenty of it! The place is very clean and surprisingly large, you can probably fit 100 people in here for a party or an event! It's extremely clean and the staff constantly roam around cleaning and checking on customers! You can eat in order a pickup. I just missed the lunch rush so I can't say how busy it gets. The parking lot has about 50 spaces with handicap spots in the front. It's pretty easily accessible if you like to grab your food and go! This place has lots of personality and great food! I don't usually write reviews, but when I do, it's because I think it's important to share my experience. Today, I decided to try this place for the first time because I had been craving Pad Thai. I ordered the beef Pad Thai, and when I got it, the food was fresh and piping hot. The flavor was actually great, and I was really enjoying it. However, while chewing, I suddenly felt something hard in my mouth. At first, I thought it was just an ingredient, but thankfully I spit it out before swallowing it. To my surprise, it was a small piece of metal wire, possibly from a kitchen tool or utensil. I can't imagine what could have happened if I had swallowed it. The food itself was delicious, but finding metal in a meal is a serious safety concern. I hope the restaurant inspects and replaces any worn or damaged kitchen tools to prevent something like this from happening again. Food safety should always come first. I've never experienced anything like this before, which makes it even more disappointing. I'm not writing this to hurt the business's reputation, but rather to bring attention to an issue that needs to be addressed. I genuinely hope the owner takes this seriously and ensures this doesn't happen to anyone else in the future. read more

There was nothing wrong with the service, the space itself or the food other than Southeast Asian food is just not for me. The restaurant is a large space with plenty of seating and counter service. It must be popular as I saw a lot of Door Dash orders being picked up. I tried the chicken soup with noodles after having minor dental surgery. The soup itself was fine with thick chewy noodles which I liked. The flavor of the soup however was a bit bland. As for other menu items, I am no fan of fish sauce which seems to be in most of the dishes. If this type of fare is your jam then do give them a try. As for me, it is a pass. read more

tried green papaya for the first time and honestly everything was really good! i got the drunken noodle, the pork belly rice, and a thai iced lemon tea. the drunken noodle had a lot of flavor and the spice level was just right for me. the pork belly rice was probably my favorite though, the pork was crispy but still really tender and the portion was pretty filling too. we ordered a side of steamed rice with it! the thai iced lemon tea was super refreshing and went really well with the food. definitely gonna come back and try more dishes the next time we're around. read more

We ate the Khao poon there and it was a generous serving that was as beautiful as it was delicious. Compared to other Khao poons I've had there's a reminiscent flavor of crab that pairs wonderfully with the rich broth it's served with, and the shredded chicken in the broth is super moist. I came for the Kao piek that I heard was amazing and that did not disappoint. Full of flavor and delicious. The fried rice had pineapple in it and I didn't like the strong taste of the fish sauce in it, it was overpowering. The cashiers seemed to hate their job and weren't friendly or welcoming at all. I had an issue with the fried rice that they refused to resolve or let me change even before it came out from the kitchen but the nice owner (woman) quickly resolved it and compensated me with crab fried rice. I personally thought the crab was strong and fishy and did not enjoy it but I appreciated her kind attitude and quick response to resolve my issue. I have been craving some delicious soup during this chilly season. So I decided to go to this very reliable Thai restaurant. This place is always so good and the service is very nice and quick. The place is very clean inside and quite spacious. I am never disappointed when I eat here. I came across this gem because it was featured on Food Network. I always order the Ka poon soup. Its flavor is always spot on. It has a nice small kick and the soup is so creamy and yummy. The chicken in it is perfectly cooked and tender. It is genuinely a must when you are craving something to warm your stomach. I also ordered this time around the Tom Yum chicken soup. It comes in a metal pot and the server lights it at your table. So not only does it look pretty cool; it tastes very good as well. The soup is piping hot so make sure you are careful when eating it. The flavor of this soup is slightly sweet because of the pineapple chunks in it, a little lemony citrusy flavor due to the lemon grass and the Kefir lime they give you on the side as garnish. They keep the episode of Diners Drive Ins and Dives they were featured on in rotation. We ordered: Coconut shake Kao poon Laap chicken Crab fried rice Coconut shake was perfect. Cold, creamy and perfect amount of coconut. Very refreshing! Laap chicken had great flavor but just a little too much cilantro for me. Great portion size tho. Crab fried rice. Probably the best fried rice I've ever had. No imitation crab used in this. Now for the star of the show...KAO POON!!! Whatever this recipe is, is beyond amazing. Placed my pick up order through DoorDash. Estimated to be done within 30-45 minutes. Ok no problem, by the time I motivate myself to get out of bed, throw my dog in the car and drive there, it should be done. Drove all the way there from Lathrop. Parking was horrible. No actual spots available on Sunday at 2PM. Temporarily parked on the side road because it was going to be a quick pick up right? Wrong. When I walked in there were 2 other people waiting at the "DoorDash pick-up spot." I stood at the counter. Still stood there. Standing for a very long time. The person working the counter didn't acknowledge me for a good 10-15 minutes. I told her my name and she relayed it back to the food runner. After a few minutes, they told me it was almost done. Waited about another 5 minutes or so and it finally came out. The runner was super nice and apologized that they did not have anymore Nam Kao (wished they just 86'd it on DoorDash so people can't order it). I was texted for a replacement, but because I was driving, I wasn't able to reply and I didn't want to wait longer for the replacement. Now the food. I got the papaya platter and spring rolls. Spring rolls were pretty good. Shrimp was seasoned (a little salty). Pass on the peanut sauce. It was bland. The other sauce was ok, a bit too sweet for my taste. Wish it was saltier, fish sauce funkier, or even tasted more of a citrus based. The papaya platter was just ok. I was looking forward to this, but I was pretty disappointed. The fried meats were delicious and would be really great with some homemade jeow som. The Lao papaya salad was ok. Crunchy and fresh, but was a little bland and not really funky. I ordered this extra spicy, but being a Laotian myself, it had no kick! I wanted to add a note to my DoorDash order and request a certain amount of chili peppers, but it wouldn't let me. The Laotian sausage was so bad. Like this is a disgrace. There was no "bite" to it and the innards itself felt like it was grounded to a paste. It had the same texture/consistency as the Laotian style omelette they have in the platter. For the price, it is a great deal because they gave me ALOT of meat. I believe I have only eaten here once, I mostly take it to go when I'm in town, but it was clean and uncrowded. I've been going to Green Papaya for quite some time, and they definitely deliver! I've had nothing but positive experiences here, and I can see why they've been featured by Guy Fieri. I started coming when they just opened their restaurant. The location is in a safe area, and they have an ample amount of parking. The interior is spacious and enough for a large amount of parties to dine in at once. You order your food and pay for the meal first, which is a reverse from your typical dining experience. Having grown up with Laos and Thai food I will say that this is probably one of the top in the Central Valley. Laotian food is not too common around here, so it is good to see a location that does it well. I am a sucker for Laos sausage and khao poon noodles and they do it very well here. The khao poon has a delicious curry taste and a generous serving of chicken and fresh vegetables to balance off the dish, which can be a little heavy. However, I do wish it came with more noodles. Stockton is not a great location, but that should not discourage you from enjoying the many delights there, Green Papaya being one of them. read more

One thing I would say for the khaopoon is the ratio between noodles and meat...needs more noodle lol. Also, boy was it red red. Don't think I've eaten khaopoon this red before. Overall, that dish was ok. Everything else we enjoyed very much! This is a pay and eat restaurant so don't expect waitresses/waiters to refill your drink. Parking is super limited... Food is good. Service could be better. Young dude with the glasses placed our plates on the table with an attitude. We ran out of water and didn't bother to check on us to see if we needed anything. Had to flag down a busboy cleaning the table next to us who then told the same dude who served us. I regret tipping him when we first paid upfront. Didn't deserve a tip in my opinion. The service is nice, young and kind of on the not people person side, but they're doing their best! The boat noodles had a decent broth that can be fixed to your liking, the papaya was nice and spicy I liked that they cut their papaya larger than most places. The best was the Lao sausage! We had the drunken noodle and it was the only thing I wouldn't recommend as the sauce was a little on the orange side and more oily. Without me having to check in the staff kept me updated on delays and would continually check in with me and apologize without any prompting from me. Some of the items are too spicy for me even if I say mild but the spice is so addicting. Not pictured are Thai iced tea and coconut shake.
