The menu didn't specify there was spinach on top of the avocado toast and I definitely didn't order spinach. That definitely contributed to the bread being soggy. The order also came with hashbrowns which I wasn't aware of either. For health reasons, I just wanted plain avocado toast with eggs and pico. It was $14 and I'm really disappointed. We ate at the Green Street Grille (GSG) with some regularity when we lived in the eastern part of zip 19335. In fact, whenever my sister came to visit, GSG was our first choice dining spot! Don't get me wrong, I am not against getting 2 or 3 meals from one purchase but some times the doggy bag is just not convenient. When it comes to food, I virtually always prefer quality and taste over quantity! Recently we found ourselves "back east'" and decided we really wanted a GSG meal. We were not likely to arrive with anymore than about 25 minutes before the morning closing. First, the service from host to server to busser is great. The menu is full of traditional breakfast offerings to unique. You have options for 2 egg or 3 egg omelettes, and one piece of toast or two. Makes sense. The Kennett Square omelette is delicious. Obviously mushrooms with spinach and onions, cheese. The French Toast cinnamon swirl is fantastic with a personal heated syrup on the side. Green Street is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. My family loves breakfast at any time and whenever I ask the kids where they'd like to eat, it's always "the diner!" I'm a big fan of Benedicts and Green Street has a bunch on the menu. They also have specials which add in an extra. Some of them miss the mark, but none are ever bad, just not always to my tastes, and others are amazing. I am a huge fan of Market Street and of course had to go to my fav place while in Downingtown. Green Street is the sister restaurant to Market Street and was very consistent with what you'd expect at Market Street. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great staff and service. This restaurant literally never disappoints. Highly recommend the sausage gravy or a PIT omelet. Christian and Waffles is also a fan favorite. If you love dark roast coffee, they serve regular, decaf and dark roast as well. Don't hesitate to try or be scared of a line. It always moves quickly. read more

Hard to believe I never heard of GSG. Thanks to some friends for suggesting we meet here for breakfast this past Saturday (11:30am). The place is quite popular, but a huge space, so you shouldn't be waiting long in most instances. Service it top notch. They all work together and I've never seen more smiles and friendly staff in any other establishment. You can tell they train them well and hustle! I wasn't going nuts with my food choices, so I had the Kennett Omelet without cheese. 2 eggs. Perfect helping. The onions were long and I would have loved them cooked a bit longer. Not carmelized. Mushrooms were huge and fantastic. Hash browns are some of the best and not heavily seasoned or greasy. My daughter's blueberry pancake as a bit rubbery. Took up the whole plate, but I wasn't very impressed and very little blueberries (nothing like some of the pics I see here). That's basically why I can't give this a 5 star. Keep pushing Yelp to allow 1/2 stars and this would be bumped up to 4.5 based on the enormous menu and the incredible staff. Back soon! read more

Cannot lie, I've been thinking about the andouille sausage gravy for weeks since I've been here. I visited Green Street Grill while visiting a few weeks ago, and had a wonderful Saturday brunch with my brother and mom. I tried the breakfast burrito with hash browns on the side, and ordered a side of the sausage gravy to accompany it. All of it was to die for - especially the gravy. Cannot emphasize that enough. My brother tried an omelette, as did my mom, and both of them enjoyed their meals thoroughly. My brother and I also split a GIANT pancake. Truly, it was the size of a huge plate. It was also delicious! Huge portions, lots of fun dishes, and very quick and friendly service. The space itself is sunny and bright, with cool local art adorning the walls. It's just above a greasy spoon vibe, but still unpretentious and creative with food and flavor. I cannot wait to return next time I visit Downingtown! I'm usually not disappointed at this place. Today I was. I ordered the creamed chipped beef on gluten free toast. It was $13.25 plus $2.50 for gluten free bread. Half of the plate was covered in undercooked hash browns. There was MAYBE 1/2 cup of creamed chipped beef gravy over the toast, one slice of which was burnt. I have never seen such a stingy offering of SOS in my 69 years. Usually you get a platter filled with gravy. I could barely detect any beef it was chopped so small. If you don't mind paying over $13.00 for potatoes and toast by all means order this. If you are expecting a nice big platter of toast heaped with gravy you will be sorely disappointed. I was. Also, this restaurant pours the ends of coffee pots together. This practice usually results in a burnt coffee taste. The holding time for coffee is 20 minutes. If it's not used by then it should be tossed. As soon as I saw that happening I canceled my coffee order. Beware that this place is very loud. It's hard to hear across the table. read more
