I order the same thing for breakfast at every diner - cream chipped beef. I went there twice and had the same experience, no beef? First time I thought maybe they just scooped from the top, but now after the second visit they don't put enough chipped beef in their mix. Their service gets a mixed review as they had a young college kid that just stood in front of the cash register doing nothing. He should have been topping coffee and water etc. The good - really cool old school diner which Gives good vibes if they start to get the small details right! read more

Prices are exceptional to today's market and makes customers wanting to come back because they take care of customers by not over charging for meals out. For lunch I had the ground chopped sirloin platter including baked beans, mashed potatoes with gravy. The sirloin was flavorful, the baked beans were good but I do not recommend the mashed potatoes. Dk used to be my favorite diner. Now, since the new ownership the food is just "ok". My omlette had canned mushrooms (not fresh). The cheddar cheese was flavorless and runny and the fruit cup was a mix of old strawberries and blueberries and unripe melon. Service still remains awesome though. The staff is great. read more

Pleasant surprise in West Chester. Happen to be in town to pick out some stuff for a kitchen renovation and driving back just saw and took a chance. It's a small place but still a decent amount of seating. We were greeted warmly and seated in a back room that isn't evident when you walk in. A lot of people so looked liked we may have found something here. Server Steph greeted us and got our drink orders and then we watched as she single handedly took care of that whole back room with humor friendliness and efficiency. We were impressed. I don't order omelettes because most places burn them and I can't stand the taste of overcooked browned eggs. However I watched as orders were brought out, all the omelettes were a perfect yellow and not overcooked so I took a chance and I was rewarded. Omelette cooked perfectly with a good amount of spinach and broccoli in it. Cheese was normal amount. It was delicious. My wife enjoyed her over easy platter. She loved her cocoa and we both enjoyed the side of sausage that we split. The only negative was the shredded potatoes were really dried out and probably on the grill too long. No seasoning either. This is one of the better breakfasts I have had locally in a while. Steph also made for a very nice morning with her warmth and humor. read more

Had always loved DK Diner. Always ordered eggs benedict - but never again. Canadian bacon is still homemade and wonderful. But the advertised poached eggs are not. They are preformed circles. The yolk was cooked hard but the whites were runny and not cooked. Terrible. Plus I ordered shredded potatoes. They were shredded boiled potatoes that were not browned. Quality has declined precipitously. Apparently service staff feels the same. We had to listen to a server complain to another diner throughout our meal. read more

This was good diner food. I ordered the 8oz Hamburger Steak with eggs. This also came with white toast and shredded hash browns. The hamburger was cooked to my requested medium. Well executed. The meat was juicy and had enough fat to be tasty without it being too much. The beef was packed a bit more densely than I prefer. The white toast was soft and buttery. Very good. The hash browns had a nice crisp, were a very nice shredded consistency, and the pepper/onions added a nice addition to the flavor and mouthfeel. The eggs were cooked nicely, with proper seasoning levels and were fluffy and buttery. All around good service and food. Diners usually make me feel crammed and dissatisfied. I love this diner!! I cannot believe that the ratings are so mediocre. This is the real deal!! A 1947 diner that doesn't look much different than it did in the 40's and 50's!! I sat at the counter and had a great conversation with a fellow diner. I had the Creamed Chipped Beef and it was excellent!! You can get the home fries sliced or hashed. The coffee is exceptional!! Can't even begin. Nickel and dime you for everything. Cold oatmeal. Walnuts .75 for three walnuts in a tiny cup. An order of two slices of toast was 1.50. Only gave one piece of toast. Said that one piece cut in half was two slices. For 1.50. ?! Home fries cold and tasteless unless you pay .50 more for onion and pepper. The peppers were uncooked and tasted gross in the home fries. Ordered the Belgian Waffle. Whole description was just a Belgian waffle. When it came it was two odd shaped waffles. Then when I took a bite it was clear that the batter had cane sugar (not confectionary) throughout and the waffle was just way overly sweet. We are talking actual cane sugar either in the batter or added at end. So I asked if I could get A waffle without any cane sugar and was told that they could NOT do that. Their waffles have sugar in them period. How odd really. And they did not offer to let me get a different meal just basically said deal with it. It was for me inedible so I paid and left. Decent diner, friendly staff. The clientele here tend to be older people, and the food is standard diner food. Order something normal here like scrambled eggs or a burger or whatever the "weekend special" for breakfast is. If you want a fancy breakfast, go up the street into the borough to one of the foodie places. The authentic look of the diner is a big plus - it's truly classic. It's a small place so it fills up. It has its own sizable parking lot, which for West Chester is a blessing. The food seems a little less greasy than some other diners, which for some menu items (eggs) is nice, for other menu items (hash browns) maybe some more grease would help the flavor. Gave it 3 stars rather than 4 because (a) they close by mid-afternoon whereas at least 2 other area diners are open late night or 24 hours; (b) the coffee is on the weak side even for diner coffee; and (c) cash only, which may work for the senior citizens but I generally use my card everywhere including McDonalds, 7-11 and Wendy's, so it's a bit weird having to have cash money for some of these old family owned businesses when even craft sellers at the flea market have a swipe app. read more

Having lived in the WC area for 15+ years, I've long felt the DK was overrated and inexplicably popular. It can be tough to get a table at peak and the waitstaff is grouchy. Parking is difficult. But, it's one of the few Diners in town, so it can have these shortcomings and still be assured a brisk business. Food is competent. More like 2.5 stars. Standard run-of-the-mill diner with the common options you find available for breakfast (e.g., omelettes, pancakes, french toast, etc) just about anywhere. Food itself was very mediocre. Generic/cheap American cheese in my omelette with less than fresh produce. Coffee was bland and burnt. Ditto for the home fries which really could have used a little seasoning besides just salt. Only real exception was that you could sub grits for the home fries. Prices were fairly cheap and most of the breakfast/brunch options were $6-$8 which included toast and home fries. With coffee & tip, it probably was closer to about $9-$10/person. Service was efficient but not terribly friendly either. Younger kids (teens/early 20s) who were generally indifferent. Given that there aren't a ton of other family-friendly options for breakfast on a Saturday/Sunday, it isn't a bad option. Certainly on par with the West Chester Diner out on Route 3. Still, there isn't any special about this place either besides the fact that it has been around for a long time (open since 1947) and some of the chrome decor on the inside. Not a place I will come back to again for breakfast if I had my choice or that I would bring my parents too if they come down to visit. Tip - They don't expect plastic so make sure you have cash because there isn't an ATM located next door. Pretty standard community diner. Servers all seemed to know customers and customers all seemed to know one another. We decided to stop here because there was sign advertising their corn fritters. My fiance went with chili and cheese omelette and was not disappointed, though I think he was expecting the chili to be inside the omelette. I opted for the steak and sunny side eggs, substituting my potatoes with a side of fruit and I was pleasantly surprised. We were indecisive about splurging on the corn fritters but half way through breakfast decided to just go for it and ordered them. The server suggested we dip them in syrup, so we did, but I still felt like there was something missing. Maybe I was expecting more corn filling? Small little "everybody knows your name" type of a diner. My go to was closed that day so I decided to venture out and go into DK diner. It was just breakfast but I wasn't impressed, the potatoes seem like they were yesterday's and the service was OK. Seem more of a pick up and take out kind of a place, but the breakfast did suffice on a cold snowy day, coffee was hot, eggs were a little under cooked but I left full. A classic American diner. Went here for a late breakfast/lunch with 2 of my buddies. Not sure if they knew we were coming, but they gave us one of the best seats in the house. We had a corner to ourselves with a fair amount of room around us as well. Our service was top notch and very quick. We had a polite waiter who was respectful to me and my acquaintances. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger while the other two each ordered a number 16, which was one of the weekend specials. Our food came in about 10 minutes after ordering. The bacon was supreme as it was tasty and crispy. Although my burger was on the smaller side, I still throughly enjoyed it and the fries weren't bad either. I didn't taste the number 16, but I only heard good things about it. The only negative about this place is that they only accept cash, but their is an atm for those who only carry cards on them. How this place gets such a high ranking on Yelp I'll never understand. I ate here in 11/6 and saying my meal was average is giving it way too much of a compliment. I had the short stack of pancakes and scrapple. How can anybody screw this up? The pancakes were bland and felt over cooked. And the scrapple? Forget about it. I have no idea where they get their scrapple from but they need to switch suppliers immediately. There are much better breakfast options in West Chester. read more
