There were several surprises about the place when we got there, but I can't speak enough about the space and the fact that it is built into a cozy what-seems-to-be old home of some sorts. The space is quaint and is a very nice place to go with a small group; the four of us having plenty of space and having a very at-home vibe while we were there. I am sure that others may not understand why this didn't hit my normal recommendation but I will try to shed some light on that below. Our server WAS attentive, but almost too attentive. I know this may sound strange. However, when one is enjoying a leisurely breakfast with friends, constant interruptions become something beyond just making sure the table is taken care of and enter the domain of simply not knowing the job or being able to read the customers. This was also not someone new to the industry, but a veteran. Totally okay! Everyone has their idiosyncrasies and maybe it wasn't a great day, who knows. All that aside, everything was just bland. There was nothing inherently wrong. It just wasn't good. In fact, it was so baseline and unimpressive that I will likely not return here. It may have been the wonderful aesthetic that made me feel like I'd be getting homestyle outstanding breakfast but the whole meal just missed the mark. As I have said many times in all of my reviews, including many breakfasts/brunches, I am a soup fanatic. I will order soup with ANY meal. The chicken tortilla soup here was one of the strangest I've ever encountered, and flat out not good.....and I hate to say that because all soup is inherently good on some level. But I could not call this chicken tortilla soup, except that there was a pile of tortilla strips on top. I will still recommend you check out Towne and Country because I continue to hear so many good things, and your experience may be very different than mine, and I love to support anything local that is going good business and supporting their community. But I don't believe we will be going back any time soon.

Our waitress Kelli was right over to take our drink order. Unfortunately once she returned she had a list of items they were out of, chicken parm being one of them and sadly what hubs was going to order. They offer an extensive menu with entrees, sandwiches, burgers and even flatbreads so a short moment was needed to rethink our meal. Opting for stuffed chicken (me) and hot turkey dinner (he) both with house made stuffing and accompanied by home made mashed with gravy. These meals felt like home. So much so that I didn't even take pictures! As the primary cook in the household it is nice to have a home cooked meal that I didn't cook myself. Something about it just tastes better. This is the feeling eating at Ashley's gave me. In addition to a whole full service bar with live music, Ashley's has a separate dining door with a salad bar that runs almost the full length. Packed full of any salad topping you can think of. In addition to the salad bar regulars you will find blue cheese, radishes, chick peas, mushrooms, peas, multiple salads, jalapeños marinated cheese, raisins, craisins, tortilla strips and also... hot bacon dressing. As much as I wanted to try, I passed and stayed safe with the balsamic. In the end Ashley's delivered what we didn't know we needed. A cozy and relaxed Sunday dinner without the dishes. We will be back when in the area for sure.

It is a busy place for big wedding events now, and so we like to stay during the week. It is very relaxing to walk around the grounds. We saw a giant heron in the pond and deer strolling. There are so many nice places to sit outside with a bottle of wine and a book or snacks. Rooms are very unique and comfortable. You have a lot of different personalities to choose from: lofts, cabins, barn spaces, etc. Many have jacuzzis which can provide your evening entertainment, lol. We have not eaten in the restaurant because our top restaurant on earth is very close by, but when it was closed, Josh gave us great recommendations. And he made a lovely tofu scramble for breakfast as a special request. One sweet touch: despite checking the room, we left without my spouse's expensive phone charger. Housekeeping found it and ran after us before we could drive off without it. She did not have to do that. Always tip your housekeeping staff. The extended Covid months have been very hard on inns, restaurants, and event spaces, and it must be stressful for them as things come back to life when so many events have been postponed. The Barley Sheaf is very serious about pandemic precautions, so masks are in full effect, and they'll walk you to your socially-distanced table in a beautiful, outdoor gardening setting. The inn itself is an architectural delight, as well, so you are surrounded by beauty on all sides. Service was pleasant and forthcoming. I wouldn't say that this is the finest level of dining, of course, you're not expecting EMP in the middle of Bucks County, but this is a good attempt, and people are pleasant and quite dignified. The guests were all well attired and the crowd is polite and kind. Food is of the adventurous character, which I enjoy. A lot of different flavor combinations (they like to do salé and sucré), beautiful plating, interesting textures, and good cooking techniques. My favorites were the octopus appetizer (so buttery soft and tender, which is a rarity) and the pheasant special, which was a pleasant and apropos surprise in this outdoor, country setting. Finally, this is a BYOB restaurant with perfectly selected wine glasses, fine silverware, and other special touches such as a freshly starched linens, etc. which elevate the dining experience.

I suppose a restaurant almost has a disadvantage when one has heard endlessly about how fantastic…read moreit is, thus setting one's expectations quite high when making one's reservation. A friend and I came by for a quiet supper to catch up and hopefully have an enjoyable dining experience. To start off, the Caesar salad and focaccia were indeed quite tasty. After being talked into trying the tasting menu, I was disheartened upon taking my first bite of the chicken Parmigiana and accompanying pasta. Both seemed as if they had been sitting for a while and then were unevenly reheated. The pasta, in particular, was lackluster and worse than anything I might have hurriedly boiled at eleven at night upon arriving home after a long trip and finding only packaged pasta and canned tomato sauce in the cupboard. But I could have lived with all of this had it not been for the service. Clearly my friend and I were the afterthought of all afterthoughts to our disinterested waitress. After hounding us to order before we had properly reviewed the menu, she promptly put us on the pay-no-mind list, as dirty dish after dirty dish accumulated at the table from the tasting menu she had so strongly urged me to try. I also abhor cheapness on the part of restaurants. Would it have killed Rosemary to offer us a second piece of focaccia, given that there were two of us and the portion was a better fit for just one? Lest anyone accuse me of having expected the waitstaff to read my mind, I indeed asked. It's not like we weren't spending a pretty penny there. The business could have well afforded to allow each of us a reasonable portion of its much-touted starter. After we finally managed to flag down our waitress amid the plethora of dirty dishes still sporting some of the mediocre food, I paid in cash on account of the restaurant informing me on the bill that a surcharge would be applied to a credit card transaction. Another joy! When the waitress took the note, she said, "Thank you," and that was that. I decided against calling after her to request change since it was one of those borderline instances where the note was close enough to twenty percent that it is a bit awkward to request someone return with change. So she walked off with a 26% or so tip after having left us on the dining equivalent of "read" the entire night. And then there's the issue of price: While not outrageous, everything is 15-20% more expensive than it should be, and after one pauses to think about it, the tasting menu offers barely any deal at all. If one orders the chicken like I did, it is no cheaper than ordering the starter, entrée, and dessert à la carte. If Rosemary had also offered, say, a soup, then it would be a deal. But clearly generosity is not in its owner's purview. The tiramisu, I will say, was excellent, and my friend and I enjoyed every morsel, and for that reason, along with the Caesar salad, I can muster three stars. Had I not walked through the door having heard so many people rave about Rosemary, perhaps I would have found it to be a restaurant with a pleasant ambiance, a good appetizer, and fine dessert despite a thoroughly middling entrée. But a Delco gem it is not.

Fortunately, I was served a different dish after I demonstrated I couldn't cut into the short rib with the knife I was given. Introduction:…read more Representing 2018 in alphabet series, O is for On Orange. The letter O only has 5 of the 8 possible years represented in the alphabet series. Interestingly, 2 of them are in Lancaster County, PA. This was prior to my parents moving to Lancaster in 2021. In March 2018, my girlfriend of that time & I took a day trip to Lancaster. I lived in Montgomery County, Maryland (near DC) at the time, and we were meeting up with a friend who was living in New Jersey kind of in the middle. We agreed to meet at On Orange at 12 PM on that Sunday, March 25 since we were driving from far away, and I think they were doing a day trip too, but possible they stayed a night in town, not sure. Also, On Orange closes at 1 PM too, so even more reason to be punctual. My g/f of then was notoriously late & took a long time to get ready. She was taking too long to get ready, and I knew we needed to leave if we even had a chance of making it on time. After a while I said I don't want to do this, but I will leave without you & meet my friend (& his girlfriend). I started the car and texted you have 1 minute to come out, and if you aren't out, I'm leaving without you. My timer reached 0, and I slowly was driving off, but I saw her shuffling with her coat and what have you leaving, so I waited. We got in the car, and I rushed off. If that weren't bad enough, my g/f said we needed to stop at her bank to get cash. Of course, there was none right within route, but saw a location right off I-83 in northern MD, Hunt Valley, but we wasted more time to get off the freeway, for her to go to her ATM, & get back on the freeway when we were running significantly late. I said we are running significantly late as it is, so why are we wasting more time. She claimed in case there was something she wanted to buy in Lancaster, but that was not the primary purpose, but I'll get to that at the end. I was panicking on the significant late, and that the restaurant closes at 1, and I drove above 100 mph at times on I-70, which I think was the only time I've ever gone that fast on 70, and maybe only 4 times ever in my life reaching that speed. Experience with the Restaurant: This is street parking around here, which was free meters on Sunday. We got a decent parking spot a block away. We walked in at 12:50 PM, which was 50 minutes LATE and 10 minutes before On Orange's closing time of 1 PM. My friend & his girlfriend were already done eating. He said that they had their stomach set for eating at 12, and there was pressure to order since it's not a huge place and pretty busy. I was annoyed with my friend for not waiting for us, but I get it because let's be honest, my g/f fault on that one. Server was cordial, and my g/f & I quickly ordered. Food came out quickly. We ate quickly, and my friend & his g/f watching us eat. Food was delicious, and they were quick, but to be fair, they were closing in 10 minutes, so they were motivated to get out of there. I got a pancake & egg dish as I recall. This was a top notch brunch. In spite of the negative experience of being so late because of my g/f, the experience at the restaurant was excellent. Conclusion: After brunch, we looked around downtown, Amish Farm (see my 5-star review of them written in April 2018), etc. and was overall a nice day with the 3 of them albeit very cold. After we left, I took the back road from I-83 all the way back to Germantown, MD where she lived to see something different and to save a little gas too since it's pretty direct going that way. My g/f was complaining about it taking so long getting back. I knew she was meeting up with a friend that night. But what I later realized, she wanted to stop at an ATM that morning really because she needed cash to pay that friend for cannabis that night. So, she disrespected everyone's time for this. I guess on a positive at least she wasn't cheating on me with that guy and really was just for pot. In conclusion, I thought On Orange was top notch, and they were accommodating to our time schedules.
