Went to breakfast at Green Verde. Good food and they introduced me to the Carrijillo which was a game changer for me. Had the chiliquiles with steak and "divorced" sauce and it was delicious. I came here years ago on one of my first trips to Isla Mujeres. It was very fresh and more Americanized. We came back on this trip and we were pretty disappointed. First, we wanted breakfast and we arrived at 11:15 am, but they wouldn't allow us to order breakfast even though their menu said it was available until 12 pm. Pretty bummed, but we decided to stay and eat lunch because the sign said "best fish tacos on the island" and I love fish tacos. We also ordered the chorizo enchiladas. I'd have to say they were the worst fish tacos I've ever had. They were little chunks of "fish" the size of gum balls, that were deep fried then garnished with one lettuce leaf, shredded flavourless cheese, thick slices of red onion, a slice of avocado and a not so great sweet sauce on the side. The enchiladas ended up being dry, flavourless shredded chicken with bean sauce and a sprinkle of chorizo on top with a side of rice. Everything had no flavour or spice at all. We asked for hot sauce to add some sort of seasoning to it. Super bummed because I remember this place being so much better. Side note- they do have some pretty cute little turtle pets inside. read more

Once you walk into Green Verde you are stunned by how nice the people are. I walked into the restaurant and was greeted politely by a worker. The restaurant however is located beside a loud unpleasant street but you seem to walk into a whole other world. The wood fence is surrounding you from the street. Now for the food. The tacos have a pleasant richness but then sweet to the tongue with an oak like punch at the end. Finally a pleasant ocean taste from the fish. A true treat! read more

Went here twice; first for breakfast and later for dinner. Breakfast was fine. The service, though pretty leisurely, was friendly and good. My "huarache" eggs were tasty and cooked to order. I ordered a fruit platter to go for my husband and it was outstanding and beautiful. Comes with a bite of yogurt and one of granola and it was a big hit. Dinner was not as stellar. Again, the service was very good and the atmosphere is casual and pleasant. I ordered the shredded beef salad. The beef was tasty but the salad itself was, "meh." The greens, on this verdant island, were so-so, but the dressing was a real disappointment. It was bland and listless; it just tasted of vegetable oil. I was really disappointed. To be perfectly honest, neither my husband nor I even remember what he ordered, which says a lot about how memorable it was. Nothing was bad, it was just forgettable. So, I don't know if dinner was an off night, but our takeaway was that the service and atmosphere are good but that the food is hit or miss. Loved this place. We went for dinner one night and then back for breakfast the next morning. Everything was beautifully presented and loaded with fresh ingredients. I had the stuffed mushroom for dinner which was an excellent vegetarian option with loads of perfectly cooked veggies and tasty sauces and the chilaquiles with eggs the next morning for breakfast. I had those with half red sauce and half green - both were great, but I'd give the red the slight edge. They have lots of good cocktail and drink options - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The standout for me were the drinks I had with breakfast - cucumber lemonade and iced coffee. It was one of the few iced coffee drinks I found on Isla and with cream and light sweetener, it really satisfied my hankering. A bit "pricier" for Isla (meaning more than $40 for dinner w/drinks for two and more than $25 for breakfast w/drinks for two)...but a great deal compared to anything I can find at home! We had the same server both times and she had it down pat. She served the whole restaurant (which was on the smaller side), assembled the drinks, and ran the food with a smile. read more
