Bought an apple fritter of yours at the Hospital for a patient (I was told I could bring him a treat). I am not one to eat doughnuts, but you advertise that you are a kosher establishment. Well, lucky for me (and my friend--we threw that thing in the garbage)-the ingredients are listed on the package as they have to be when you sell at other locations. Partially hydrogenated fats? You put trans fats into your baked goods? I thought there was a law against that? Now I am well aware of the loop holes companies are jumping through (one states that if the thing has .99999999 gram of trans fat in one serving--which in your case--would be a bite)--you can LIE and list 0 grams of trans fats--and another loophole is any item or product (you sell a product) that was made previous to 2009 (the label) does not have to be reprinted showing that your doughnuts contain trans fats. Get rid of your partially hydrogenated oils! Then again, maybe your customers like that (a heart attack) read more

I remember working with the owners all night long at the local Donut Tree in Sun Prairie WISC. in the Year 1978 we did the preparing the donuts back in this small town. Then we'd pack the donuts in a trailer and distribute them to Madison Store for sale. The only thing we liked better than preparing the donuts at that time was actually eating and sealing. I absolutely LOVE Greenbush Bakery! It's always delicious and the service is excellent overall. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone! That being said, I had a less-than-excellent experience with an employee the other morning. I understand why businesses sometimes had minimums for using a credit or debit card. This woman however felt like she needed to explain the minimum to me in a very rude tone. I bought another donut to meet the limit (HAPPY TO) and left. Avoid the woman with shorter hair. These donuts are DANGEROUSLY good. Just when you're reeling from last weeks' old fashioned sour cream and blueberry donut binge, you notice something massive out of the corner of your eye. It looks like a manhole cover. "What the hell is THAT?" you ask, wide-eyed and drooling on the counter. "'That' is an apple fritter" you learn. This is the beginning of the end. Their apple fritter is about 50 lbs and 3 feet across and I imagine it's what God eats for breakfast every morning. It is beyond the best apple fritter money can buy. Kind of hard to find and hidden unless you are looking for it. Also there was a ton of construction around there when I was there but found the place. I got the apple fritter and it was really good. Like everyone else said it was as big as your face. I could only eat about 1/4 of it and had to save the rest for another day. It was fresh but would have been 5 stars if they could somehow keep them warm and serve them that way. Mine was room temp cool and it killed the flavor a bit. I think serving the fritter warm would really make the apple fritter flavor pop and give it the 5 stars it deserves. The place is tiny and there is nowhere to stand inside either. read more

The Greenbush box I just picked up from Hy-Vee is *worse*. $5.70 for six hunks of fossilized sand, shaped like donuts. Greenbush Bakery is a great place to stop if you are in need of an early morning pick me up. Not only do they have a wide variety of doughnuts, but the small hole in the wall venue makes you feel as though you stumbled upon a well kept secret! The prices are extremely affordable and there is a parking lot conveniently located out front for quick trips! The only problem I had was that the different doughnut types were not clearly labeled. Although it is fairly easy to deduce the chocolate glazed from the vanilla sprinkled doughnuts, it would have been nice to have a clear list of my options. read more

Best dougnuts in the world!!! I'm not even kidding when I say that. This place is the mecca for anyone who loves a good donut. I don't even care that sometimes the guy working the counter isn't too enthused about his job. The donuts are delicious. Not cheap but not expensive either. And they're used to be 2 for 1 coupons in the student papers. This place was open late, especially on the weekends. The triple chocolate ones were always the best. Chocolate donut with chocolate icing, filled with chocolate custard. How could you go wrong?! Pretty sure they make a fresh batch of donuts around 4 pm every day. You should call and ask before you stop over. The fresh warm doughnuts are heavenly! Can't wait to go back. Also if you're watching your weight. Stop kidding yourself. This place fucking rocks, the blueberry old fashioned is a local favorite and staple, but I highly recommend you try out the little known but highly competitive "Cherry Oreo" "Choreo"....... the oreo cream filled is great too, and they often have strawberry filleds hiding somewhere which are rare in the doughnut world! Their donuts are fresh and cheap! Most of them are a dollar flat, so you don't need to worry about change. I always get the maple blueberry donut, which is absolutely delicious! The first time I went to Greenbush Bakery was on a sunday around 10:00 am after my boyfriend and his roommates had just raved about this place to me forever that I finally had to check it out. When I got there, there were no fresh donuts and the selection was very poor. The second time I went to the bakery it was a friday night at about 2:00am, this is the holy grail time of donut opportunity. The selection was huge with classic donuts and fun flavors. The dough was SO stinkin' fluffy and the fillings were wonderful and fresh, I don't know of anywhere else in Madison with greater goodies. My sweet tooth and I will be back!! read more

Each time I go to Greenbush, I never know what to expect. I went once on a Monday afternoon and there were hardly any doughnuts - no glazed doughnuts at all. The worker told me it was because they got a late start on Mondays. I went last Friday night around 9:30 pm and had 3 of the best doughnuts I'd ever had. I went today (Tuesday) at 2:00 pm and the doughnuts are stale - they are at least a day old. Why not let the customers know that the doughnuts are not fresh in the afternoon so we know not to buy them? Why sell stale doughnuts? If you open at 6:00 am, why are the doughnuts stale at 2:00 pm? It wasn't until I got home and ate a doughnut that I realized they were stale. So, go at night. read more

I have probably never loved a donut more than the donuts I purchased at Greenbush. I love old-fashioned and cake donuts, rather than glazed, and Greenbush offers plenty of options. The best donut shop in the world. Selection varies by day of the week (Thursday night is the best time) but there is usually always something to come home with. I suggest the "old fashioned" or "custard filled". Always friendly service and very affordable (just under a dollar a donut). If I get the death penalty the apple fritter will be my last meal. read more

The first thing I noticed was the delightful smell, the second was the horrible customer service. I took my mom for the first time and the cashier was very rude and the selection was very small. We still ended up buying donuts but the texture was more hard then doughy. This experience overall couldve been better. read more

Don't be confused by the name. This is not a full-service bakery. I've never seen a loaf of bread or a cake in the place. It sells donuts, turnovers, and persians/bismarks. (They might do cookies too.) Apple turnovers I bought on April 6 were EXCELLENT and actually had a good amount of apples and not too much cinnamon. Dough was crispy and airy, just what you want in a turnover. The glazed cake donuts were excellent, even the day after I bought them and they were not greasy tasting. I've had their chocolate-covered custard-filled bismarks and those were good too, but the apple turnovers are THE BEST. read more

These are the best donuts in Madison. Instead of a wedding cake, we asked Greenbush Bakery to cater our wedding in the summer. The staff were so accommodating to our special requests and even called me back to confirm the order about a week before the wedding. We ordered enough donuts that Greenbush Bakery delivered to our reception site, and they were right on time. Our guests loved this unique wedding dessert. The experience was flawless.
