Went there to recycle some printers and a large battery pack for the very first time. There was no line or waiting to drop off when I went there about 3:30 pm. It was very quick and speedy. I used the GreenCitizen drop off service for the 1st time today, dropping off an old tv and it was incredibly easy and efficient. The drop-off was free for the TV (among other items) and the contactless drop off took only a couple of minutes. A convenient and painless way to be environmentally friendly - why wouldn't you come here?! I had a whole range of random electronics to recycle; from curling irons to wireless modems, Christmas lights to old laptops - they accepted it all without a hitch. The man working the front counter was very helpful and took the huge box of electronics from my hands as soon as I walked through the door. We went through the items together, and since I was recycling an iPad and 2 laptops, he had me fill out a quick form on their laptop that asked for basic contact information, and an agreement that stated each of the items was my own property. There is no fee for dropping off common items such as laptops, TVs, iPads, etc, but there is a fee of 50 cents/pound for more obscure items - in my case a hair straightener and a curler. It came out to a whopping $1 - a small price to pay for being environmentally conscious. The process of dropping off my plethora of electronics took only five minutes, and was really worth the effort. If I have any other items to recycle in the future, I'll definitely be back! read more

This is one of the only places where you can recycle stryofoam. Usually they charge a couple bucks for 2 - 3 large pieces, but it's easier that not being able to fit it in your small garbage can. read more

What more can you ask for? It's easy to get to, they take just about anything that uses/stores electricity (and more!) and it's completely free! (There's a fee on video/audio cassettes if you have more than 50lbs.) Loaded up all sorts of stuff: TVs, boxes full of various desktop and laptop parts, cables, printers, speakers, receivers, VCRs, game controllers and more. They happily took everything and I was in and out in under ten minutes. (Not including the pleasant chit-chit with whom I am assuming was a Sr. Manager or higher.) They even unloaded my truck for me! I really enjoyed the experience I had at Green Citizen. Chris was super helpful with the process of turning in an old Apple laptop that we were no longer able to use. He explained the whole process (which is very quick and easy) and took the time to talk with us about what parts of the machine could be re-used, as well showing us our destroyed hard drive and sending our certificate to us--which had arrived by the time we got home! This is a great service. I have been collecting broken Digital convert boxes before I Purchased an HD TV, all the remotes, broken antennas, extension cord, power cords, RCA cables, batteries and light bulbs. Check the website before you go this location does not take batteries ,however lucky for me I will be in Mountain View tomorrow and that location does accept them. The light bulbs are accepted for a fee, but the guy told me that there are other places that recycle them for free. Very good advice. Now I can tell my friends where to drop off all their e-waste. Locations and services vary so again check the website for Eco-Drop, Eco-Center or Eco-Station and the items they accept. read more

Great experience. I had 2 old mac computers and a time capsule to get rid of, plus a mouse, keyboard, etc. They took the stuff out of the trunk of my car and gave me a certificate which is proof my data had been erased. I didn't have to pay a cent and I know the stuff will be dealt with in a responsible manner. I will definitely use their service again in the future. read more

Green Citizen is poor at communication. All communication is one way. It is impossible to reach someone at Green Citizen. There is one general phone number and all you can do is leave a message. No one at Green Citizen has a direct email or phone number. We were charged money for a free pick up because we were on the 2nd floor with no elevator. No one ever asked if we had stairs or what floor we were one. So we were surprised that we were being charged when Green Citizen arrived for the pick up. This place is so great. It's only about 10 minutes from me which helps..but the hours, days of operation and employees make it so easy to recycle electronics. Most places make it so difficult /inconvenient that people ending up tossing stuff - and electronics are the worst to put on in landfills! read more

I called and got great customer service over the phone. I got my recyclables picked up to my location the next day after placing a request for pickup. The guys that picked up the stuff were cool. Over all the experience was smooth and had no issues. I will call them again when I get more stuff to recycle. read more

I have been taking electronics and other items to Green Citizen for at least 5 years. What I like about it is that the items are recycled at their location, and not shipped to China to be dumped in a landfill or recycled by poor people who are exposed the the toxic chemicals in these items. Yes, you have to pay a small amount to cover the costs of recycling some items, but it is worth it to not be further polluting the planet. read more

We came down today to drop off 3 old beast televisions, an old computer, and a gaming system for electronic recycling, and could not have been more pleased with our service. Staff was extremely cheerful and helpful, and did all if the heavy lifting, and offered to take a few other things they spotted (we had a full uhaul destined for the dump). I used to bring my old electronics to Green Citizen on Mission Street in SF. I thought they were pretty cool back then. I looked them up today because I wanted to recycle an old phone and wanted to confirm their address. Looks like they've shut down most of their operations and moved to Burlingame. I'm not going to schlep all the way to Burlingame... Is there an electronics recycling alternative in the city? Otherwise I might have to dump my old electronics into the trash. I'm sorry it was such a hassle for Green Citizen to recycle the stuff they said they were going to recycle. They claim the cost of recycling went up 800%. So it's not worth doing, then? read more
