I can't believe I haven't reviewed Greene Street! I've been consigning my clothing, bags and accessories with them for years and have always been pretty happy with my experiences. Their employees are very friendly and the location on South Street always looks nice. Greene Street has changed their consignment model a couple times over the years. Recently, they've reverted to their former model which is when they email a contract within a couple weeks of the drop-off. The contract lists each item they plan to re-sell and the price. After the consignment window (45 days, reduced from the previous 60), you receive a payment for any items that were sold, minus a $4.99 handling fee. The payment is a percentage of the sale price, which fluctuates depending on the value of the item. Anything they don't want to put on the floor and anything that doesn't sell in that 45 day window can be donated, unless you want to pay a fee to pick up the unsold items. It sounds complicated but really, it's a great service. I don't like holding onto things I don't need or no longer wear so this gives me an opportunity to clean out my closet a couple times a year while making a few bucks in the process (for me, typically anywhere from $50 to occasionally $100+ for each haul). I also love that they simply donate items that they decide not to sell. Wins all around! read more

Ok so they took 34 pieces of my clothing and I signed a contract then 2 days later they said actually they were wrong and now they want 0 so I better come back and get my stuff. Completely wasted time money energy and i looked around the store and there was nothing cute. They suck. read more

I will not work with this business again. I had a pair of jeans valued at over $250 retail that I consigned at Greene Street Consignment on South Street. When I went in to reclaim them, they had not been sold, but the jeans could not be located in the store. I returned a second time to search again, and still, they could not be found. Staff briefly helped me look, but there was no resolution. When I reached out to customer service, the only solution offered was for me to pay $9.99 for staff to search again and if they aren't found, I would lose both the jeans and the $9.99. This is completely unacceptable. The item was lost while in their possession, and I should not be financially responsible for their error. I expected accountability and a fair resolution, but instead I'm left frustrated and out a valuable item. I cannot recommend this consignment shop based on this experience. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH GREEN STREET. I dropped off items, including a high-end handbag (worth $1000) on July 13, 2024. My process date was 8/5/2024 with a pickup deadline of 8/12. It is now 8/29/2024. I'd like to point out that I have phone records for the pricing of the bag which I agreed to so at minimum, I should have been paid for the bag. Not only did I never receive my price list for the items I left with them but I NEVER RECEIVED PAYMENT. The items I left with them included a hiI will be filing a theft report with Phildelphia Police and a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. As a customer, the menswear selection is dogwater. As a consignment service, I've used them a lot over the years. There isn't much rhyme or reason to how to select, you just see about $3/item show up in PayPal 2 months later. They're extremely rigid in season bs and don't understand transitional seasons. I had an appointment for stuff the day before they started taking Fall clothes and they wouldn't consider it. They also just don't pay you for your things they sold. Ultimately, I think they're just sloppy and the place is run by people who don't care. read more

They have a policy that you have a bag bigger than a purse that you have to give them your bag at the front desk. I told them I was uncomfortable with giving them my personal belongings (i.e. my computer, etc.) and they forced me to leave the store. I've been doing business here for about 4 years, primarily as a consigner. Had I written this review 2 years ago it would be 5 stars, but for some reason lately the folks who are deciding what to take and not take are just not making any sense with their choices. I used to be able to bring in around 50 brand name items and only leave with 5-10 rejects at most (and would then successfully sell 70% of what they took.) My last two visits they have taken almost nothing; on this most recent visit they only wanted to take five items and said I had to come back with other items to combine them with because five isn't enough without a super luxury item in the mix. I know the condition of what I bring in and I know it meets the requirements of Greene Street, so this just doesn't make any sense to me. Also the sad truth is the super high end items I've ever brought in (a vintage coach bag, a $1200+ Altuzara dress) just don't sell because people aren't actually coming to Greene Street for high end; they're coming for bargains on mid-range brands like Free People and Banana Republic. It's no longer worth the effort for me to lug in heavy bags of clothes and wait half an hour only to have them rejected, so I just won't be consigning here in the future. That said, the review is two stars because the staff are really quite lovely and kind. I'm just not sure I understand the reasoning going on in the consignment acceptance situation as of late. read more

Everyone here is super friendly and I always find things I love. Even thought the store itself is smaller than other locations, I find the selection to be great! I've found my favorite running leggings (Lululemon!) here for an excellent value. I've also traded it a ton of clothes here for store credit. It's pretty clear what they're looking for, so I've never had a lot of trouble. Overall, I love Greene Street and will always recommend it! Pro tip - if you drop off on a Friday or Saturday, you can take all items they don't accept over to Philly Aids Thrift a few blocks away. read more

I always stop in and find something I like in gateway or Lambertville. people are pretty friendly. I stopped in to consign shoes today. I brought in 8 pair of never worn shoes. the woman was not only rude and stand off ish but because I didn't have 10 pair, she turned me away. my husband on so many occasions brought in 1 or 2 items and was never sent away with a no. I will sell or prefer to give away these shoes rather than go bk there. terrible customer service with a condescending attitude. yuk read more

Think twice before you consign with these folks. They take a large percentage and nickel and dime you for everything. When I went back to claim my items that were not sold, two were missing. My guess is they were stolen. But the answer was 'it might show up somewhere'. If you qualify for a tax write off, I would donate instead. Or try Poshmark or any of the other online apps to sell your clothes. The positive side is the folks working at these stores are very friendly and accommodating. AWFUL CONSIGNMENT. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS!!! I consigned with them in May and had questions about my payment. It took me OVER A MONTH to finally get an answer from Dayna in accounting and she still hadn't answered my question. I emailed her 4 times and STILL nothing. I had to email the PRESIDENT of the company, Lynne who finally got back to me. And still Dayna was dismissive and unpleasant. Their customer service is substandard and they are not professional. Do not support this business! They never paid me for the clothes I gave them (which included name brands like Theory) and I'm sure sold them and kept the profit. read more

So over this location. And to be honest, Greene Street. Commissions are sub par. Consignment shouldn't be 30%... Resale should be. Items are priced poorly and garments are not returned in the same condition. Some not at all. Worst of all is the pick up process where you have to go through and find your clothing on the racks. Best of all you have to make an appointment and as they rarely have appointments is this so that they can keep your items? With no appointments within your pick up window. I was bringing two bags of high end designer items to sell and consign. Decided that I'm done. read more

Greene Street gets an A+ in their accessories and handbags department! The pictures on this page simply do not do the store justice and I regret not taking more. My Mom and I love to vintage hunt, so naturally we could exhibit no self-control when we saw the very cute Greene Street from the sidewalk. The store is big, bright and thoughtfully organized. We didn't really browse the clothing stock, but we're very enthralled with the handbag collection. We purchased a very fairly priced Kate Spade bag. It had some scratches on the bottom, but it was very light and the perfect bag for carry-on travel. We also were eyeing a Marc Jacobs bag that was a colorful purple print, though we ended up forgoing it for a beautiful knit scarf. Overall, I could see myself shopping here regularly if I lived in Philadelphia. I found the staff to be very helpful and we had fun shopping here! read more

How surprised I was to see a consignment shop on South Street. Although I prefer thrift, I went in and was pleasantly surprised. Their prices are actually affordable. Yes, they do check purses. I offered. They accepted. A beginning thief can pilfer socks; masters get Loft blouses in small spaces. Me not having to coddle an overpacked purse was a freedom. Nicely set up, which encourages people to buy. You need a key for the dressing room. They had a good selection of everything. My lot in life is for the most beautiful things in life to be not an option due to size constraints. The jewelry was so beautiful! A J. Crew addict, such as myself, will be sated with sparkly bounty. My daughter, Sophie, now fifteen-point-eightish, got a pink sunhat and blue sunglasses that make her look like she stepped out of an Urban Outfitters, but with her funds intact. (Her Dad paid, anyway.) Soph has autism, and felt comfortable in the calm, not over-crowded atmosphere. That is relevant for people with autism and their caregivers. The employees are friendly, and not snobbish at all. I left with star-like earrings in my clutches and stars in my eyes. read more

This review is pretty much based on the men's department which can be god awful. If I were looking to pay $25-40 for a pair of jeans than I wouldn't be poking around in a Consignment shop. That said a big portion of it's men's department is pretty avoidable. You will find some some good buys among the shirts but just not enough. You will finds plenty of hot buys in the womens department, especially if your a dedicated thrifter. My friend pulled out a charming and styling top that was all the colors of the sun and was definitely hot. since it came out of the clearance rack she ended up only paying $4. Shopping down South Street on my way back to my hotel, I noticed a place that my friend Alexandra N. recommended. She sent me a list of places to go and check out and I thought why not. I really don't need anything, but a new outfit would be nice. I shopped around and found a dress that I loved. I tried it on and it was PERFECTION. Short, yet tight, snug around my jugs and hawt. All that and only $10. I couldn't be happier and had a dress to wear to dinner later! I came back the next day with my friend visiting from NJ and we played the "Guess the year this came out in" and "Who would where that". It was so fun. The turquoise Bebe heels I past up at Greene Street, I wish I snagged! Live and Learn. Green Street is a great deal and good on your pocketbook too. ;) read more

I dig this place. So much so that when the cashier told us they had other locations I squealed in delight then when I discovered the closest was in Jersey I was sad. Greene Street has racks and racks full of clothes, shoes, and accessories. I found a leather jacket for a ridiculously low price and since they were having a sale, I received an additional 30% off on top of that. My friend snatched a designer bag for under $50. They also have men's clothing and footwear so the guys are not left out. It's brightly-lit with dressing rooms and a friendly staff. If only they were closer to home... read more

Shop is clean and tidy; it feels like a boutique. Generally seems pricier for secondhand clothing, but I guess you're paying for that boutique feel. Clothes are not very clearly organized but I did find a pair of jeans. Change Room drapes don't close properly. Staff is not super friendly or helpful, but that's okay. I give them a rating of 3 because as a shopper they used to have some really nice inventory for men at their shop in Chestnut Hill. That shop is now closed. If you are thinking of consigning with them well then think again. If your clothes are out of style they will reject. If it is in the wrong season they will reject. It is unfortunate I have to write this, but this is a caveat for sellers. I've used many consignment stores through the years (as well as apps), usually selling barely worn, high quality clothes. I recently took some of my stuff to this location. My items included new with tags designer dresses, and a new with tags designer skirt. I received less than $10 per item, but I know this is a risk with consignment shops (some buyers are more skilled at appraising than others). The day I went to retrieve my unsold items, I waited half an hour, and then was told my items had been "misplaced" and they would have to look for them and let me know. It's been over 10 days and I have yet to receive a message. If you have great, high quality, new or almost new items, please think twice about selling here. Consignment/resell stores are awesome alternatives for sustainable shopping, and both shoppers and sellers deserve a better experience than this. read more

Like the person who's LV bag went missing, so did my Burberry bag and one of the fancy Madison Avenue blazers ($$$) I brought in. I've had success consigning a number of items with them over the years, but I've noticed that several of my priciest items "disappeared." So watch your expensive items VERY carefully. Then again, I had heard this from others over the years too, so it didn't entirely surprise me but it sure angered me. It also baffles me how they reject impeccable clothing (some with the tags still on them) that are both in style and desirable brands when they have some absolute garbage on the racks. Some of their clothing is downright hideous and/or pilling. Really? I'll consign my clothes here, but I rarely ever shop here. This consignment store is on one hand is bougie. And on the other completely low class. I have made it a point to consign with them and I have yet to be compensated on time and recently was completely paid a wrong amount based on an old offer instead of the new. They have a new inefficient system where you leave your items with them, they take possession of those items, then handle your compensation with little or no regard. When I had to speak to a support staff on the phone he was nasty in his disposition. They need to stop being bougie and take notes from the leader: Buffalo Exchange. I never have hassles with them. They explain why they don't take certain items. They price your items in front of you. You walk out with store credit or cash in hand. Love them. Hate this Greene Street BS read more

I occasionally shopped here, although the men's selection is often small and thrift-shoppish. I stopped shopping here once I discovered their consignment policies. You get 40%, they get 60% - already crazy. Strike 1. I was away when my contract ended. I came in 2 days later and was told my items now belong to them because I didn't come in on the exact date. Their rebut was I should have come in days before (and in essence, shorten the time on the selling floor). Strike 2. No check 3 weeks later, so I call. They tell me I need to wait a month for the check. The check that is only $103! So what happened to the 21 pieces I consigned including a leather jacket, a suit, blazer, pairs of sneakers, jewelry and never worn dress shoes? I didn't see them 2 days after the claim date. Were they ever put on the selling floor or just hidden until my contract end date? Are these the items that I've now given to Greene Street? I would have rather GIVEN items to Thrift for Aids! Strike 3. I'm disgusted with this shop. No wonder there's never anything good on the floor... the staff probably takes it all and hides it. No proof of that, just a sneaky suspicion. I love Greene Street Consignment! I frequented the one in Princeton and would always go to the Lambertville location whenever I went. Now that I live in Philadelphia, I'm happy there's one that's only a short train ride away! Wonderful selections, super nice staff. They're also rolling out a rewards program which is convenient for frequent shoppers like me. This is a consignment store, so don't expect super low prices. But I do think they're still mostly affordable. Cannot recommend shopping at Greene Street enough! read more

I've consigned at other places in philly before and this one is closer to my house so I thought I would give it a try. I've consigned with them before, but I will never consign there again. There policy of a minimum of 10 pieces AT THE SAME TIME to be accepted to consign is ridiculous. Their acceptance rate is extremely low, if it doesn't have tags on it or was worn more than once forget about it. Tell me what girl has 10 high end, practically brand new pieces of clothes in her closest at the same time she wants to part with all at once? Besides their obnoxious policy their consigners are inconsistent in clothes they accept. Nothing is more frustrating than to have items turned away because they don't accept certain brands, like Express and then see something else from American Eagle or Express currently on the rack. Or I've personally bought clothes that actually had a stain on it, but yet have had items turned away for lesser reasons. Their styles aren't that impressive and prices aren't really that great. Try Last Call or Nordstrom rack instead. read more

As a native Philadelphian, I have both shopped and consigned here. Here is a break down of my experiences with Greene Street Consignment: As a Shopper: I sometimes frequent South Street depending if I have to pass through on my way to center city, so I pass Greene Street a lot. Since their window displays often look enticing I happened to stop in one day. (And many times after that since I am a frequent consignment shopper) Pros: The merchandise is quite suitable for work and you can find your sorta general run of the mill stuff like banana, loft etc. I have to agree that the prices are a bit high for a consignment store but I have walked out of there with a few things that are pretty reasonable in pricing. Cons: On the flip side, a lot of the times you are left with thinking why would the store except something so worn or dated? The fitting room drapes WOULD NOT stay closed - no matter how hard you try to secure them. It ALWAYS feel as if it is 85 plus degrees inside- making it pretty stuffy to even enjoy the shopping experience. The staff is way less than friendly and sometimes would even give you an attitude. As a Consigner: This is where Greene Street Consignment ultimately fail to please. 1. First off they REFUSE to let you consign unless you have at least 10 pieces. 2. Then they make you wait for someone to go through your items and when they do- they treat your items like it is trash. Yet they accepted 15 of my pieces- go figure. 3. Their rate is pathetic. 15 of my pieces and I only made 80 bucks. seriously??!! Tags still on, unworn. Brand name stuff. Think Lilly Pultizer and genuine stone jewelry. 4. When my contract was up and I went to collect my items- they make you go through the store yourself without any help to hunt for your items. (Way to treat someone who is giving you business) 5. When I went to retrieve pieces of jewelery that I had consigned which is locked up and only staff can access behind the counter- it was no where to be found! Based off of the contract it was never sold! Since staff could only access it then leaves one wondering hmmm. less than trustworthy staff. So all in all you would not make money and cannot claim the merchandise. 6. The deliciously soft cashmere Lilly Pultizer sweater that was consigned? Also no where to be found. This is where the customer service was atrocious. After combing the store a few times, I finally alerted the staff who only half heartedly looked for it- stating that it should be LOCKED UP with the other high designer items in front of the store (which I already looked through 5 times). Finally- I stated that I wanted to be reimbursed for the loss since again it was most likely a staff member because it must have been locked, but of course the girl almost smugly replied that they cannot do anything about theft. At this point I took the items that I did find and left the store. All in All, If I can get that cashmere sweater back I would feel A LOT better giving it to the salvation army or the goodwill. At least someone could actually appreciate the sweater AND the money would be going for a good cause. Let's just say I NEVER went back there, people have asked me about the store (since I am a serious consigner and buyer) and after relating my story to my friends and co-workers they too want nothing to do with this place. RUN do not walk away from this place. If you like discount clothing/ eccentric items- please instead go to Philly AIDS thrift (SUPER close to Greene Street- and trust me- you will not regret it) in which I nabbed a authentic rabbit fur scarf, banana jeans, snake skin purses for each less than 10 bucks!! You will feel a lot better because the staff there is SUPER friendly AND the proceeds benefits AIDS!!!! read more

This was my first experience at Greene Street. I was not aware that they had a policy on not bringing in bags from other stores. One of the girls chased my friend and I down in the store and was not especially polite telling us that she had to check our bags. I understand that loss prevention is important, I really do, but it is my pet peeve - ok, it's a little more than a pet peeve, it drives me completely bonkers - when stores treat me like a criminal. I would have just left, but my friends wanted to shop there, so we stayed. The girl who checked our bags proceeded to follow my friend around. My friend dresses like an old lady and was wearing bright colors - I don't have any experience shoplifting, but I would imagine you wouldn't want to be conspicuous, so I don't know what this girl's problem was. To top it off, we almost left without our bags. Now, on the one hand, sure it's our responsibility to remember our things, BUT if we didn't have to check them because these people think everyone with a bag is a thief there would never have even been a chance of that. If you're going to insist I leave my things, then you are taking on the responsibility of remembering to give them back, and if you don't want that responsibility, then just don't take them. I'm giving this place two stars because, if you don't have a problem being treated like a shoplifter just because you made a purchase at another store, you might enjoy it. They have a decent-sized space with a lot of clothes, so chances are you can find something you like at a decent price. Personally, I won't be back, whether or not I've got a bag. There are just too many other great places in this area that don't treat their customers like criminals. read more

PICKY, PICKY, PICKY! If you're looking to thrift than i suggest going elsewhere. Greene Street is a 'high-end' consignment shop that gives people a hard time that are trying to consign. The Consignment: -You need at least 10 pieces to enter into the contract. -The items are held for 30 days before they reach the sales floor. -You're not told what the items will be priced at. -They're not responsible if you're items are stolen during the consignment. -You'll receive the check for the amount made about 3 months after the start date. -The check probably won't be worth the entire process. While you can find some cute things from more expensive brands sometimes you'll look at a tag and be blown away by what you see. I think the people in charge of the pricing should probably be a little more well versed in more boutique type brands instead of major labels. I feel like I am not old enough to enjoy this store, the clothes are a little to 'stuffy' or 'basic' for my tastes. I'll stop in to sneak a peek at the rings, but I don't trust them with checking bags. read more

It's so sad. This was one of my favorite places in Philadelphia. I always found something there and I didn't think the prices were terrible. I live near the store so it couldn't be more convenient. Recently my boyfriend decided to do a much needed wardrobe clean out. We found all times of item, some that have never been worn and decided to consign for the first time. I folded each piece and took them to Green Street. Let me say first that it was busy that day. She asked me to wait about 20 mins which I had no problem doing. When she finally went through the 60 pieces I brought, she yelled to me that she was finished. As I was walking up towards the counter, she continued to shout to me that she only found one piece that she could take. Louder she said the rest were not usable, some of the shirts were dirty around the collar. The whole store heard. I was embarrassed. Grabbed my bags and left. When I got home I went through each piece again. Some were never worn!!! There were not marks on the collars. Ok maybe one shirt had a little stain. Because of this women's rudeness and the way she handled my situation, I won't return there. Number 1 rule is to not embarrasse your customers. Number 2 don't shout in your store. read more
