Wow! I needed assistance to rekey my front door as we had lost a key and didn't know where it was. It should be noted that I am absolutely NOT handy in any way. I called to ask for a quote if I were to bring the lock to GreenKeys to have it rekeyed. Although they do not offer that service (they offer onsite work only), that it would be more cost effective for me to take the lock to a local competitor that could do that service. I was otherwise ready to either buy a new lock set and attempt installing it myself at roughly quadruple the price for a rekey, or to have a locksmith come on by to install it professionally. I had an emergency situation where I could not re-enter my house and needed to get in within two hours. Seriously, a gazillion 5-star Yelp and Google reviews don't lie. Ben is amazing, and I honestly think you'd be nuts to seek out another locksmith unless you absolutely had to. My experiences: In 2015, I switched our front door over to a keyless lock and hired Ben to install it. That experience was a simple procedure, but I really liked him and his service a lot and thought I'd left a good review. Apparently not, because.... Cut to the other night, April 12, 2022: my 93yo mother in Palo Alto forgot the digital code to open the wall safe in her assisted living apartment, and couldn't get in. I called Ben and we conferenced in my mom, and she was able to give him the manufacturer and serial number of the safe. The company was so obscure even Ben hadn't even heard of them. He took time out of his busy schedule over the next 24 hours to do research, contact the company, and eventually come back to my mom with specific instructions of how to open the safe using a set of emergency keys that she found nearby. This probably sounds pretty uneventful - digital code safe won't open, keys work as a backup. Keep in mind my mom is very elderly, has lost many of her once sharp executive function skills, AND is alone - dad is gone, and there are still Covid restrictions at her facility due to a few recent breakout cases. I was unable to pop over to help out. Ben did all of the troubleshooting over the phone w/mom or by text w/me, and had the knowledge to get the correct model number and instructions directly from the manufacturer in a very short period of time. Bonus - as I said, mom is very elderly, and has a tendency to be forgetful and repetitive, and even ramble on and on over the phone, but he was super patient and kind with her despite it, which I very much appreciated (she did too). On top of ALL that, he refused to charge us for the time and work he put into helping her get the safe open, which she did this morning.
