That response wasn't just dismissive--it was offensive. Offering a military discount isn't discrimination. It's a sign of respect for the men and women who've risked--and in many cases, given--their lives for this country. Equating gratitude with discrimination shows a serious lack of awareness, and quite frankly, a lack of respect. What made it even more disappointing is that this store is located in a community where many military families live. These are the parents, spouses, and children who support service members from the home front--often enduring long deployments, uncertainty, and sacrifice themselves. To respond that way in a place so connected to the military is not just tone-deaf--it's disrespectful to the very backbone of this community. If I could give zero stars, I would. My very first visit to legendary Greenspans. It is going to be my dad's birthday. So, I took him shopping. They had tons of pendletons. He got 2 short sleeve ones. We didn't know they made shirt sleeve. He bought a few nice dress shirts with embroidery. A young guy waited on us the entire visit. He would search for the sizes which were high to reach. He was very helpful and patient. It ended up being 800 bucks. The prices were on the high side. But, it had all the old school lowrider style clothes from my dad's young days. He loved everything. However, DID score me a wool beanie and nice big original bandana to use as headband. Not exactly a hop, skip or jump away, but worth the drive. Was wonderful to visit a mom and pop shop still standing. Took one star off simply because not all made in USA as I expected considering new vintage. Bought a Pendleton shirt here because I heard about these guys a long time ago. So I decided to take the drive all the way down from the San Fernando Valley. Place is a whole lot smaller and cluttered than I thought. The gals there helped me find what I was looking for and were cool. When I got home and tried the shirt and was able to really get a good look and feel for it, I changed my mind and decided that I needed a size larger for a better fit. I emailed these guys to ask if I could swap it out just to make sure before I made the long drive back out there. They told me that I could as long as I had the reciept and all tags in place; which I did. So I finally take the drive that took 1hour and a half to the store. I am greeted by Mr. Greenspan, the older guy behind the counter. I tell him that im there to swap for a larger size and hand him my receipt. Dude walks away with the shirt and I see him smelling it all over. I tell him i tried it on twice, once at the store and once at home. He told me he didnt think so because it smelled like cologne. I tell him thats impossible because I had never worn it out. So then he says that the button holes are stressed. I tell him that he has my word that I never wore it and he tells me not to "stoop that low"...pretty much calling me a liar. Long story made short; we argued for like 15 minutes before he finally said that if I made myself less to him that he would make the exchange. I couldnt beleive what he was telling me. I told him that I am speaking the truth and I don't make myself less for any man. So he finally gave up and made the exchange. I spent good money on that shirt and everyone who shops here does as well. Customers shouldn't be treated this way specially when they are speaking the truth and it's just and exchange for the same shirt in a different size. If this fool is going to act like that...might as well change your rules to final sale and not do exchanges period. I wont ever be going back again or ordering online. I have found other places with the same products and I won't have to deal with bad service in a small, cluttered place where you can't even go through the products well or comfortably. Avoid this place and save yourself the headache! UPDATE: Still crap....even more so. I just realized that when I bought the damned Pendleton shirt here that they sold it to me on a hanger and without pins or the plastic cover. So I returned it the same way. Pretty much that fool was trying to make his money back off of me after someone had already returned the same shirt. It has been a while since this incident happened but I am still pissed off the same about it. It took me a lot of time and energy and I feel like someone needs to expose this bull crap customer service starting with the current Mr. Greenspan. When a man's word is his life's rule; you don't question it...mine was questioned more than once on that visit. I was taught to respect my elders but I cannot and will not respect an elder that is less mature than I am in respects of honest business. So sad. read more

They are very unprofessional. Gave us rhe wrong size with box cutter holes in the pants. We did not get a chance to see the freshly purchased product until the day of a funeral. Greenspan's original store open in the Watts area in the 20's by Grandpa Greenspan after the WW. They moved to it's current location in the late 30's. Now...as stated by Rich L., the merchandise can be somewhat of a hassle because it's ALL OVER the place, literally. A neat freak will be running out of here in 2 mins....or less. I kind of have an idea of what I'm looking for when I come here, then decide what I want, once I'm there. The Pendletons have a special back...back room...ALL kinds of patterns, colors, styles...for both shirts and light jackets. They also offer...well...too much shiite to list, so check it out yourself. Come with someone who knows and you'll be set. Well, actually...the staff here are super cool and won't brush you off, even if you have "stupid" questions. The times I've been here the fellas have been patient and really cool. It's kinda funny, everytime I come here, I leave with a pair of shades, but manage to lose them within a month...haha...thank gawd they only set me back a Lincoln. Walk in a square...walk out like you have a clue(at least look like you do.) Any ways stop b.s'n and drop in on this landmark of a place. My favorite moment, at least when I went last time, was when the guy who was helping us out ripped his wino shoes so that his toes were somewhat showing...haha...looked funny....BUT he then offered up a story where another coworker was walking down these stairs they have there and on his last step, completely ripped out of his pair of wino shoe ! !
