    The Portuguese Benedict
    Kent S.

Rating: 4.3 We tried this place for brunch since it's a newer place that we haven't tried yet. It's a small breakfast diner in Cranston. It's in a small plaza and parkings are available. We were sat down immediately and were promptly taken orders. Inside is pretty typical of a diner and some seatings available. I ordered coffee and Portuguese benedict. The Portuguese benedict was pretty good. French toast like sweet Portuguese bread as a base with linguica and soft runny egg topped with hollandaise sauce. Slightly sweet and savory and definitely one of better eggs benedict I've had in RI. Home fries were crunchy and flavorful. Coffee was solid as well. Order came fairy quickly and service was good Overall the place is a solid breakfast place with good food and service. I like that this place isn't too crowded and wait time isn't crazy because a lot of other breakfast places are very busy and it's really not worth the wait. This place is a hidden gem and would come back again for breakfast. The locals seem to know the place as it seems like there are some regulars.

Absolutely delicious! This place is a small breakfast place in Cranston within a plaza. It has plenty of parking and very friendly staff. The waitresses look young and earnest. Our waitress was attentive and seemed shy, but pushed on asking for whether I wanted my egg poaches, side of homes fries and so on~ she was very sweet. There were a good amount of space inside with tables, so I don't think you'll see much of a wait for a table. Bathrooms are available in the back, and the restaurant was clean and tidy. It had a typical breakfast style decor. My prosciutto Benedict was phenomenal. It was an English muffin with prosciutto, egg, with a sauce and feta cheese. The sauce was surprising sweet and balanced well the savory meat and egg. ~ I loved it. I need to come and try more on the menu!

We were in the area and looking for a breakfast place that was not a chain. Looked on Yelp and found this place. It's very cozy. It doesn't have many tables but while we were there business was steady with guests. They had a few carryout orders also. There was only one waitress handling everything up front. Not sure how big the kitchen was or how many people were back there. The waitress was busy taking orders and bringing out food. Our order did not take very long to come out. Just be patient if you need something from the waitress since she is by herself. My husband ordered the Prosciutto Eggs Benedict and I had the Italian Sausage Omelette. Everything came out great and hot. Definitely worth the stop

Update: tried the eggs Benedict again and ordered the eggs medium. This time they were properly prepared. White firm and yolks runny. So up the rating to 4 stars. Local restaurant, usually not crowded. Huge menu, lots of variations on eggs Benedict, including asparagus (!), and omelets . Pancakes and waffles are available. The lunch menu looks interesting but I haven't tried lunch yet. Friendly service and reasonable prices. I love local restaurants . The last two restaurants in this local did not do so well, but this new incantation looks much better. But not perfect. I ordered eggs Benedict and the waitress how I wanted the eggs cooked. Never had that question before. The eggs were poached but I was given the option of soft, medium or hard. After discussion with the waitress I went with soft. Bad decision! The whites were substantial under cooked and quite runny. Next time I try medium. The other choice, hard, does not seem appealing. The sauce was canned but quite tasty. I will return and maybe I can up the rating.

Looks like they have new owners. The place is newly renovated. The food was good nothing really special. If you want something quick, cheap and local .. this could be it.

Great food, great service. Quick, affordable, and delicious. The plaza doesn't look like much from the parking lot, but this place is a gem.

I went with a salad with salmon added. My dining companion chose a pizza. We were both happy with our choices. The lettuce was fresh, the portion size of the salmon good and it was cooked perfectly. Restrooms are at the back, past the bar. Seating is comfortable with a variety of banquettes and chairs. The dining room was bright with large windows. The bar side has more subdued lighting. Once I ordered my soda I took in the ambiance of the bar, new lights, and the rest of the restaurant. It's not a large building but they make every inch count. Now, the reason you're reading this review- THE FOOD. I ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich with a Caesar Salad. The chicken (photo below) was perfectly cooked, topped with hot honey, slaw, pickles, and ranch then placed on a soft brioche bun. The meal was reasonably priced as well at $33 which included tip. I will absolutely be back to the Shanty next time I'm in town.

The Salmon bowl on the other hand had so much broccoli that it was overpowering the entire balance of the dish. I'll pick differently next time.
