Firstly, this review is severely overdue. I broke a glass window on my front door (right above the door handle and lock so anyone could stick their hand through!) and in a panic, I called Greg's Glass. Mind you, this was during the NBA Championship game, which he was watching. Greg really knows his stuff. For example, when can something be skillfully repaired, vs entirely replaced? That's so important to know up front. I called Greg in to inspect an expensive full-length mirror owned by one of my customers. We thought it needed repair. But Greg called it a cheaply-made, over-priced "art mirror" that could not be fixed without damaging the front of the frame. And told us what to look for when buying a new mirror. Now I know where to send my customers for advice and repairs. And when I invest in mirrors or windows myself, I know where to go! read more

So Greg is a great guy. He's a one man show that is hard to nail down. He's good at what he does and thats glass replacement. He's not so good at juggling phone calls and appointments. If you hang in there and give him some gentle reminders that you'd like his services then he'll eventually show up. If you have an emergency you'll have to pony up and go with a "Pro" service. Greg is very kind and I would like to give 10 stars if it has. I called several different glass companies because my client's window on light well was broken and needed to be replaced soon. They charged me $250~$300 for a single wood frame glass replacement. I didn't expect that much cost. When I called Greg at 10 Am, he said he had a very important anniversary event for his mother ( I believe 100th birthday celebration) in the afternoon and also stayed up last night due to previous work. However, he accepted my request very willingly and replaced the window within two hours with $120. My client was happy and I really appreciated his professonial spirit. Rather than try to clean the glass which would have taken hours, I elected to replace the glass panes with a new obscured glass. Greg did a great job. He's answered my calls! This is the second time I've used Greg's services--the first time, he replaced a long-missing pane in a set of French doors, and he was prompt, quick, efficient, easy-going, and very affordable. (He found a recycled pane that was perfect for the space, and cost me nothing.) This time, someone broke a window in our garage side door in the process of stealing two bikes. Even though it was Saturday of a holiday weekend and he driving back from LA, he answered the phone and suggested I call Sam, who came over an hour or so later, having already stopped to find a matching pane for the door at Building Resources...so again, cost me nothing. A few years ago the glass on an original cabinet door in our 1924 home shattered. I finally looked into getting it fixed and called Greg based on reviews. He explained over the phone that he only really deals with "old" glass, something I hadn't even thought to ask about. Of course, it makes sense that glass made decades ago might not be in production and that a single replacement piece of "new" glass probably wouldn't look right next to all the originals but it hadn't crossed my mind at all. When we called him back today we were able to schedule a same day appointment. He showed up within an hour, schooled us on glass, and impressed us with his skills. Classic and rare SF experience and service. Greg's 40 years in the glass business really sets himself apart. 2 days ago, some deranged woman with a shopping cart walked up our street in Glen Park and proceeded to bash in random garage glass window panels. We were one of the unlucky ones who experienced her gift of rage. As I cleaned up the broken glass, I realized that the glass was atypical with a special, frosted swirl design which was probably made in the 50's. I searched Yelp and found Greg's Glass particularly interesting because it appeared that he was an artistic perfectionist for glass replacement. Well I'm so glad that I called him because not only was he kind and courteous with scheduling the first appt, he educated me that the broken glass panel had to be sourced from a glass company that carried old, used glass panels as they don't make these anymore. Since the broken glass panel was one of 3 on my garage door, Greg was insistent that he go to the glass company and personally select the right glass piece so it would match the remaining 2 panels. He found the perfect piece and had the glass company cut it to fit perfectly. Since I only could meet Greg after work, he had no problem coming to my house after 7pm to install the piece. Since my garage has very poor lighting, I helped illuminate Greg's work space with my iPhone light as I learned that installing an old glass panel in an old garage door can be tricky. One wrong tap of a nail, the replacement glass shatters. Well, like a well seasoned pro, Greg installed it perfectly and I couldn't be happier. Greg specializes in old school wood frame windows. Some kids threw rocks through 3 windows in my living room on Friday night, and I called Greg Saturday morning. He was sympathetic and while he doesn't typically work on weekends, he stopped by on Sunday and did part of the job. Greg is a hero, he is meticulous and ensures a high quality job. While it takes him longer because he is a one man operation, he doesn't mind spending all day on one window if that's what it takes to get it right. He is very experienced with old wooden single pane window frames, the kind most popular in SF homes. I felt confident he would do a great job on both the flat as well as the big curved window (we used plexi on that). The curved was challenging since we couldn't take the frame out, but Greg got creative and did a fine job regardless. Also, Greg made several trips to my place through the week and spent a lot of hours each time, and was way more reasonable than anybody else. Scheduling with Greg can be tricky but it is understandable since he does scheduling as well as jobs themselves, but if you can be patient you will get a great job done at a very reasonable price! read more

We needed to replace a large cracked pane of antique wavy glass in a double-hung wooden window and are so happy with the quality and speed of the work done by Greg and Sam. We called several window replacement and restoration companies and they told us they don't make glass like that anymore or gave us a very high quote to restore the entire window. We found Greg on Yelp, he answered right away, told us replacing antique glass was their specialty and came over immediately. After looking at the window he called Sam with the specs and said they had a recycled glass pane that should fit. Sam showed up in half an hour and carefully removed the window sash to take back to his shop. He came back later that day with the original frame fitted with a beautiful replacement pane that perfectly matched the original antique glass. We could not be happier with the result. Replacing old window glass is something most people know nothing about. So when I had to find a vendor, it was hard to know what to ask, what to do, and how much is a fair price. Also, most were several days out from appointments. Most places required a hefty service call charge along with cost for drive time, labor, and glass. But when I called Greg ... he walked me thru the problem, told me he could do the job, and then literally arrived within 1.5 hours. How's that possible. So I must confess, I did have my reservations. He arrived, had a little small talk and humor, but immediately got to the task, removed the window pane, told me he could get it fixed, then whisked the window away in his car for repair. No paperwork, just his word, and his estimated price for the job. Said he would contact me later in the day. Was I a bit worried ... of course. What if he never showed back up. But not GREG. He contacted me just as he said he would, within the same day; his friend Sam repaired the glass, and just as he promised, not only was it repaired correctly, but better than how I originally had it. He used vintage glass that matched my other windows ... and now, my windows look better than ever. I had one small broken window, double pane, and a large old Edwardian sash window that badly needed replacement. I called Greg and he was at my house in less than 15 minutes - I couldn't believe it. He looked over the job and called his partner Edwin, who appeared 10 minutes later. They made an estimate on the spot. The sash window had to be ordered and I am only available at home a couple of weekdays each week, so it took about 3 weeks to get the job done. Edwin's brother Richard did the actual installation in about 3 hours, and he did an outstanding job - I didn't even have to paint the edges around the sash window because he was so careful. This stuff ain't cheap, but the price was fair. Unbelievable service and quality. As long as these guys remain in business, I'll never use anyone else. read more
