Greg's Japanese Auto is great! Called the store and spoke to Donny about setting up a same day oil change on a Saturday. He managed to fit me in a couple hours later. When I got there he was honest and very friendly. While the oil change was being done he came to speak to me about removing some of my plastic undercarriage that was bent and scraping the floor while I drive. He told me his tech would be removing all necessary broken pieces, a service I was not expecting. When the work was done I received a text with a service report, including pictures of the bent undercarriage that was removed. Was not expecting the report so I was very pleasantly surprised. Overall - 100%. Definitely recommend. Had a synthetic oil change coupon which had me $55 out the door. read more

LADIES - PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS. I came in because my brakes sounded like rocks were living in there rent-free. I was told I needed all new brakes and rotors. Cool. Safety first. I paid nearly $2,000 for what I was assured were "premium, high-quality" parts. Premium where??? Less than a month later, my brakes started squealing like I was driving a city bus from 1987. I gave it grace. "Maybe new brakes squeak during break-in." Six months later? Still screaming. So I bring it back. And I'm told I just need to "use my brakes more." Sir. I live in America. I use my brakes every single day. That is literally how driving works. Fast forward ONE YEAR!!!! and the squeal is now louder than my patience. For $2,000, I did not expect: * A recurring soundtrack * A masterclass in being dismissed * Or an explanation that makes less sense than the original problem If you are a woman walking into this shop alone, please ask questions. Get a second opinion. Bring ya mans. Bring Google. Because I paid for premium brakes and got a year-long audition for a horror film sound effect instead. Extremely disappointed. 6/23: My dad scheduled a transmission fluid change and I drove from Lynnwood since my usual shop had no availability. When I arrived, the front desk man tried to tell me no appointment was scheduled, that I didn't even call for an appointment, and that I'm in the wrong place, so I left. Dude was very condescending and not a help at all. My dad called 5 min later and the workers story changed. Turns out we did call and schedule an appointment, he just took me off without a heads up since 3 mechanics called out. Terrible service, thanks for letting me know the day of my appointment that I drove an hour for that you canceled it! Would've really appreciated a heads up and I would totally understand. 0/10 do not recommend. read more

Update...I took car to Honda dealership and only 1 of the required services was needed. Front brakes were actually 5mm so they were good. Two minor services, air filter replacement, had been ignored by Greg's. So Honda reconfirms my review. read more

I will never recommend Greg's Japanese Auto to anyone I know. They did just as little as possible to find the problem. They never did a complete diagnostic to understand what is really wrong with the car. They were 100% sure that some of the front-end parts were bad. Well, after taking it to the dealership it turns out that the car was running rough because the spark plugs were bad. Nothing was wrong with the drive train. Again, go to the dealership you will save money by having someone use the right tools to understand the real problem read more

I attempted an oil change myself however due to the Toyota dealership over tightening my oil filter, I unfortunately stripped it and cracked the plastic housing cap. I explained my situation to Greg's auto and they were more than happy to take this job and get me back on the road asap for a fair price. Oil was leaking from my vehicle after I got an oil change at the Toyota dealer. I didn't want to take my car back there as I didn't trust them after an unpleasant experience so I brought it here since it was close to my house. Parker helped me and said they'd take a look and if was something easy then there would be no charge. 15 minutes later they found the source of the problem and fixed and tipped up the oil as a courtesy. I had a starter go out on my 2006 Toyota Corolla LE. Of course, it was the worse weather this past year and I could not go to work anyway so I called Greg's. Parker answered the call and said they could repair the car within a few hours provided I could reach his shop. I left the car running after whacked the starter one last time. I was quoted $475 for the repair which is somewhat high but they did take care of my problem and saved me a lot of hassles. They had the starter in stock and got me going again with a two year warranty. in the past, I had asked them for quotes and often they were pretty high so I had always gone elsewhere. We just got our Toyota serviced and they did a great job as respects the oil change, however during the check out process, they found a minor issue and suggested we pay $168. We came home and fixed this in less than 5 minutes. I don't want to go into detail, but it was similar to screwing a cap on a milk carton. While I appreciate them bringing this to our attention, I don't appreciate the initiative to try and have a customer pay for something that was unnecessary. I asked them to change the oil and they did a good job, checked the tires, etc. What I did not appreciate was the wait. They scheduled me at their lunch hour and I had to wait until they finished lunch. Then I had to wait an extra 10 minutes while the service man wrote up estimates for a long list of things that they said my car needed. Yes some of those things are needed but not the $1200 timing belt which is not due for another 50k miles. Also very poor verbal communication. When I asked him about the items on the list be brushed me off and basically said just read it. I will take my car elsewhere next time. read more

Prior to the COVID lockdown in 2020, we had to perform major repairs on my wife's auto to the tune of well over $8k. Included in the work performed in the many items we addressed were rotors/brakes/calipers on all 4 wheels. Fast forward to 2022 and like many people getting through COVID and the lockdowns we just did not drive the vehicle that often. We discovered that we had a failure in the rear brakes. There were miles put on the vehicle to be sure. We were told that we "exceeded the warranty of 15 months/15k miles (by 2k miles). We were told that a rear caliper, installed as part of the work in 2020, had failed and that due to the failure the rotors/brakes/calipers had to be done again. I asked whether there could be some consideration given since we had only slightly exceeded the warranty. Although I had exceeded the warranty limits, Parker and Donnie from the counter, intervened on our behalf due to COVID lockdown prohibiting my ability to do much driving during that time frame. Parker came back with some good news for us after a couple of days. We are happy repeat customers. read more

My 2001 Sentra died a couple weeks ago, on the first day of my vacation. I figured it was the starter, yet the actual starter is in a place that is so utterly inaccessible I knew that I wouldn't be able to do the work myself. I called Greg's with the belief that they'd be overpriced, but when I talked to Kyle he gave me an estimate of $312 plus tax for parts and labor, and said he could have it done that afternoon. Sure, it was more than the $180 I would spend to find the part on my own - but with no way to replace it myself, I figured paying a little more for retail on the part, as well as letting someone else get their hands dirty... It was a steal. I got my car down there that day, and it was done by the evening. I couldn't pick it up right then, so they held it free of charge overnight and I was able to pick it up in the morning. I was elated. After picking up my car, I drove to the gas station to tank it up as well as the rental car I'd been using for my week of vacation. After we filled up both cars, I tried to start mine up - and the new starter began whirring and making all kinds of noise. Turns out that the starter had been bad out of the box - not a problem though, since Greg's has a 100% warranty on replaced parts. I got the car back there and they replaced the starter with a smile, not charging me another penny to do so. That was almost two weeks ago now, and the car's been running just fine. In the past I've always opted to do my own auto repairs, because I didn't trust repair shops to not try and screw me over. In the future, I won't feel so apprehensive about taking my business to Greg's Japanese Auto, because I know they're going to stand by what they tell me. Thanks, Greg's! read more

I entrusted Greg's with my much-loved 1990 Mitsubishi Montero for an oil change. They weren't exactly friendly but I didn't mind that. They were busy. I later noticed they'd forgotten to fill the washer fluid. No big thing. We all make mistakes and this was small. The next time I went in, I told the guy at the desk about it and he promised they would fill it this time. He even mentioned that they had made sure to when I came back to pick it up. Next day, it rains and guess what? No washer fluid. So, I check my radiator fluid. Low! One time sloppy, okay. But twice? I'm so glad I didn't entrust them with something more important than an oil and fluid change! read more

I have taken all of my family cars here for the past 8 years - I recently moved to Portland and have seriously considered driving back up to Kent in order to take my car to Greg's. I have always gotten a complete explanation of what they're doing and have been informed and asked for pre approval before doing anything costing an additional fee. They have never tried to upsell me on any unnecessary services and genuinely care that my car is running safely. To top it all off, they have very reasonable prices. I was really disappointed with my experience here considering the positive reviews. My car broke down on me in the middle of eastern Oregon while driving and after I got it back to Covington I took it into Greg's for a diagnostic. It was a relatively short turnaround but the tech called me and told me my starter was broken in half and quoted me $700 to repair the starter and only then could they figure out if there was anything else wrong (This is a $50-$100 part that takes less than an hour to repair in my inexperienced hands, I should know, I replaced the part about 60,000 miles ago). I was skeptical of the diagnostic because it simply didn't make sense as the car was already running when it broke down as I told them, and why would a starter spontaneously break in half? Since I used half a brain cell that there must be a larger issue I told him no thank you and towed the car back to my house. When I told them I was going to come pick up the car they said "Nobody is towing anything until we get paid for the diagnostic" which I thought was pretty rude, and should go without saying, usually people pay for services. So I ordered the part and began to go about saving myself $700. About 30 minutes into the job I removed the broken starter and it became evident that they barely looked at my car at all because they failed to see that the reason the starter was broken was because a part (piston? I am no mechanic) punched through the engine block and took out the starter. I sure am glad I didn't pay Gregs $700 to put a brand new starter on a motor that is now a several hundred pound paperweight, I am already annoyed that I paid them $200ish to barely look at my car! I do not recommend this place to anyone who values their money. These guys are slimy, plain and simple. I took my truck in to get the suspension looked at because it was making some noise (the truck has a lift kit). AFTER taking it there, explaining my problem and that I had a lift kit then having them look at it, they had the audacity to tell me they couldn't work on it because it didn't have all stock parts and then proceeded to charge me $150. They then told me that my water pump needed to be replaced and it was leaking coolant (something that they could fix). Me feeling skeptical on their analysis, I took my truck to a trusted auto shop and they basically said that their "analysis" was bogus. read more

Greg's Japanese Auto in Covington has me hanging by a thread as a customer. We have used GJA-Bellevue for years. We took a car into the Covington shop for a full prebuy inspection before putting any work into a car that was given to us. They told us what was up with the car. It did need some minor work done in the future. But only needed a radiator replacement. So that is precicely what we had done. We went to them because we thought we could trust them as experts in the industry. Guess who was by the side of the road with a blown (brand new) radiator in the middle of the night last night! It was so bad that I thought the car had burst into flames. Then, this morning, the manager told us that basically it was our fault that the radiator blew because we drove it 300 miles. HUH? It wasn't overheating for 299.9 of those miles. They said that their was oil on the engine when they inspected it. Ok, so...they are supposed to be the experts. If there was something else they suspected to be wrong, then why not say that? Greg's in Bellevue always did that for us. The worst part of it is that they violated my trust. They trashed their brand name. Next time, I'm better off rubbing some dirt on it and wrapping my car with duct tape than to take my car to them. read more

Greg's in Kent has amazing customer service. I have taken my vehicles to them for over 5 years and trust that they will do quality work. When taking my husbands car he needed the exhaust system to be completely replaced. Greg's gave us their quote roughly $1,200 but told us to call a specialist in Auburn to see if they could do it for less. We got it done in Auburn for half the price! Greg's looks out for their customers instead of squeezing all of the money out of you that they could. Greg's does always tell us more than what we ask for when it comes to finding things to be fixed. But it's up to the customer to pick and choose which is most important/cost effective. I really love the customer service that Greg's in Kent offers, I trust their knowledge, and that they wont take advantage of me. I would recommend Greg's in Kent to anyone! read more

My Lexus battery died, but after I replaced it myself the navigation, air-conditioning, the clock, the windows and the power door quit working. I gave all my problems to Gregg's. The solution was beyond complex, but Gregg's did find and solve each and every problem. Gregg's staff is great, considerate and gave me a ride home while they trouble shot almost every electrical system in my car. I used to enjoy going to Greg's, until I realized how crooked they were. I been going to this Greg's location for 3+ years. I recently did an oil change @ this location in Kent about 3 months back and another one a month ago. In my visit 3 months ago, I looked on my list of recommended services there was no mention of a oil pan replacement. Then mysteriously two months later when I come back the threads on my oil pan is completely worn out to the point that I can't get another oil change without replacing it. Oil pan threads SHOULD last as long as the engine. They must've over tightened or cross threaded. I'm sure one of their mechanics didn't torque properly when changing my oil and now they are trying to charge me 600$ for something they messed up. I questioned the worker (Donny) and all he kept saying is "I don't know how it could've happened and it wasn't one of my mechanics". I don't go other places to service my car so OBVIOUSLY it was them. I was servicing 3 cars there and recommended this location to family and friends. Safe to say I'm never going back to Greg's and telling all family and friends about my experience so they don't go back either. read more

Expensive service light fix! The process started with an engineer service light on, but no problems with performance. After $92 Greg's said I needed a new gas cap. I got the gas cap, which did not solve the problem, so I took it back to be charged another $92 and told I now needed another $1000 to fix a vacuum leak. So for $1200 the service light is off and the engine still runs the same. read more

The service at Greg's has been great in general, they've had some turnover of staff, but the gentleman that drives the courtesy shuttle is extremely personable. I tend to only use Greg's for oil changes because other repairs and services are so astronomically expensive; that's when I shop around. Usually I take my Subaru to AWD auto or Smart Service Subaru, my radiator cracked out of nowhere and I was within 5 miles of Greg's Japanese auto so I took my WRX in. After checking the replacement parts for quality and checking the price with the above mentioned shops, I decided to replace my radiator there. Very knowledgeable and good service but they hiked up the price $150, charged me for a pressure test on finished radiator and other fees. I asked why these weren't included when I got the original quote in writing less than 24 hours earlier, employee said they usually show all fees upfront, YEAH Right!!! Common "bait n switch" move. I WiLL NEVER BE BACK!!!!! There's a reason why awd auto and smart service Subaru consistently are voted in the top 3 repair shops by " evening magazines" best of edition. read more

My check engine light came on today as I was dropping my carpool buddy off after work. I sped over to Greggs Japanese Auto 5 mins before they closed to see if they could do a scan really quick since I commute to Redmond...Eric, the manager, stopped what he was doing to scan my car,check under the hood for any loose connections and sent me on my way with some suggestions . Those guys at southcenter greggs are top notch.... Didn't even charge me or complain about me coming in so late!! Ive been here once before, and they are so caring. They stayed late to finish my car to make sure it was safe to drive when I needed brakes and rotors--they called and said it was ready, and I told them I couldnt pick up until about 20 mins after they closed... I offered to get it the next day, but they said to just come on in. I came to pick up my car and Eric, again, was the only one in the place....The shop was dark, his car was the only one in the lot! He had waited until I picked up my car before he headed home and was cheery and nice as ever. These guys go above and beyond and will ALWAYS get my recommendations and service from now on.
