Their mechanics are skilled experienced professionals and they will allow the customer to source and use parts from an internet supplier for major projects with the understanding that they do not warranty to parts themselves. So I had my beloved 25 year old BMW 3 series that my project list was just getting too long. The complete steering system (rack, pump, hoses) needed replacement as well as an overhaul of the driveshaft and shift mechanism. It would need an alignment too. Gary went to work and did an excellent job with all the repairs with my internet sourced OEM quality parts. The end result was a pretty incredible transformation that brought this car back to it like new drivability and performance. I had previously sent my car into a different shop to get a gnarly misfire fixed, they charged me an arm and a leg and when I got it back somehow it was missing more often than when I brought it in. I hate going to the mechanic. I don't know anything about cars and always wonder if I've been played. My car gave me problems and I posted an ask on a social media site asking for recommendations. Iron Mike's was recommended. The reviews looked good but I checked for women who might have reviewed.I know not all men get cars and its my own paranoia but that's just me. I explained to Mike what I thought and he gave me a time to come in. I thought it was an alternator issue but also thought it could be a belt. After checking my car he asked if I had work done previously incase the mechanic had not done everything correct they could go back and fix it to save me some money. After reviewing what was done he determined there wasn't a connection and continued to diagnose. Once he determined the problem I expressed my frustration with my car and he suggested the fixes as well as some options for buying a used car based on what I was looking for. We talked in depth about the brands I was interested in and the types of problems I might encounter. I left feeling like he actually wanted to help me get my current car ready to sell but options based on his professional expertise that would work for me. Absolutely great service. Anyone with minimal mechanical knowledge (including me) knows speaking with a mechanic is stressful to say the least. Mike and his employees alleviated this. Mike answered any questions that I had, in depth enough to have an understanding of what was happening with my vehicle, but simple enough not to have me lost in the sauce. Prior to me ever even agreeing to pay for labor he did a couple on the spot fixes for free. Prices felt fair, and quality of outcome was unbeatable. A few weeks after the fixes an unrelated issue occurred (through no fault of Mike or his shop), and Mike gave me the run down of what was going on and told me he'd be happy to fix it, but also that it is a simple fix and I could do it myself in an afternoon. Opting to do it myself he gave me a quick overview of what I need, where I could get it, and the basic steps to the fix. IF I looked and found another place to do the same work for a couple hundred cheaper I would go to Iron Mikes anyway just for the peace of mind. Could not recommend more. read more

He does his research on specific parts to find used ones as a cheaper option as well as give you an accurate quote. They do take a little bit longer to do things but the job is done right and he is reasonably priced compared to other shops! Ok it's my turn. I brought my 1970 Ranchero over to Mike about 1-1/2 years ago with tons of problems. I had swapped motors from a boat anchor 351 Cleveland to a seriously built 351 Windsor/, new C4 Transmission, brakes, carb... you name it, Mike had to fix it. Worst mechanic I've used in my entire life. Paid $360 to fix a bad seal on my transmission and my car is worse than before. Before I just had a small leak, now I can't even drive it and it needs a new transmission. They do not care about anything but taking your money. Unfortunately this is definitely a business to avoid at all costs. Unless you enjoy being lied to and ripped off. First the owner Michael lied straight to my face repeatedly; until he realized I knew for a fact he was lying. He even started yelling and cussing about me even questioning him. I witnessed it you clown. Then Wes who is a manager or supervisor tried to convince me of the same lie. Once Wes realized he was caught he crumples up his bid he's trying to get me to pay; shuts the garage bay doors so I can't see them working on my truck anymore. I remember elementary school, geez bud. Then I flat out ask the tech who performed the work how long he worked on my vehicle. He responds I don't know. Wes and Michael both claimed he only worked on my truck all day. Pretty easy answer to give if that was the truth. It's 3-4 hours of work for any qualified automotive technician. They play the nice guy routine until you call them on their lies. Most importantly their work is subpar. They claim they know what they are doing, clearly they do not. Multiple simple mistakes, that should have been noticed before claiming to be finished. Zero master technicians in the shop, major red flag. They claim 45 years experience; that's combined experience. Sorry bud thats not how it works. Michael has 12 years experience. Do yourself a favor and take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic. read more

I met Mike when I was buying a new used car in Kent & needed a mechanic to take a look. I live in north Seattle, so my regular mechanic was too far away. It's hard to find a mechanic who you can trust these days, especially being a female. As an ex-mechanic, I found myself getting the run-around from shops who didn't know I knew my stuff. This led me to put off repairs on my much loved 2006 Subaru Legacy. I could have very well done them myself, but it's been a while since I've turned a wrench and quite frankly it's just easier to have someone else do it when time is limited, especially when it comes to Subarus. This is where Mike comes into the picture. You wouldn't know there is a small automotive shop tucked away on 240th Street by Tahoma HS, but if you're not trying to catch air on that awesome hill you'll find a gem. An honest, hardworking family man who takes immense pride in his work and also stands behind it is a rare thing to find. An added bonus is that he has YEARS of experience working on Subarus as a Master Subaru Tech. After me just describing some car symptoms he was able accurately pinpoint and fix my head gaskets (my year of Subie is notorious for them leaking around 130k) and I haven't had a problem since. He was also able to figure out an extremely annoying squeaking noise during a short test drive. Upon closer inspection, he also found some badly cracked boots on my suspension system that were pretty close to snapping off. Got it fixed at a lower price than I was quoted from other shops (I always like to make sure I'm getting a good deal) and I'm extremely happy with the results. Disappointed - I scheduled a transmission fluid and filter replacement and was quoted $225. The bill was $300. Quotes on the phone are worthless. To add insult to injury they added vehicle issues on the invoice. Vehicle issue #1 was "water pump is leaking, drive belt is cracked." I know for a fact the water pump is not leaking because I had Iron Mike fix it about a year ago and there has been NO loss of fluid since they fixed it. The drive belt is not cracked on the outside and there are tiny cracks from normal wear on the inside. The belt is probably good for another 10,000 miles. Vehicle issue #2 "Rear Pinion Seal is leaking." I inspected the seal and there was a drop or 2, not a major leak that needs to be repaired. Almost every car has this issue. Vehicle issue #3 "Oil pan is leaking." I checked and there was a drop of oil on the pan bolt. I changed the oil a week earlier and forgot to wipe the bolt. There is no leak. Taking $75 extra from me was bad enough but to put fake news on my invoice is insult to injury. Unfortunately I will be looking for another (more honest) repair shop. read more
