I've owned a few Japanese cars over the year and this place was highly recommended. I've gone to them for a few challenging things. The sunroof on my Infiniti would not close and that was very frustrating and concerning to me, especially living in an area they get so much rain. I took it in first thing in the morning and a couple hours later they were calling to let me know that they had fixed the problem On another occasion, I was clumsy, attempting to change out my standard headlamp bulbs to some high visibility ones. I quickly hit my mechanical threshold, but not before I rendered one of the lights interoperable. Very tight working conditions. I took it into the shop and they called me an hour later saying that it was done. Other than those occasions, I've had some general work done, including oil changes and 30 and 60,000 mile maintenance packages. I have always found them to be courteous, offer a shuttle vehicle back to work and great communication. I highly recommend Greg's Japanese Auto. read more

I have a 2010 Honda Element SC I've had it for years. I do most of the work myself. I had replaced my timing belt, tensioner, my power steering pump and all the hoses. After the power steering pump was installed I was having noise out my pump. I tried to bleed the air out the lines but still having noise out the pump. So I take my car to Greg's Japanese @ So Center. Dropped my car off bout 8:00 am and they had it all day around 3:00 that day I hadn't heard from them so I called an the guy said he would check an call me back. At 5:00 I had not heard from them so I go to pick up my car. When I get there they have looked at my car and they have an estimate for $1200 stating that I need to replace the power steering pump and all the hoses. I was called to come pick up my vehicle that it was ready to go. I get there and get the key... the key wont turn over. I asked them whats going on? I thought my car was ready? they had two seperate people come out to take a look, and they just shrugged their heads. I asked what are you going to do about this? The manager refused to cover the cost of their mistake. Mind you I dropped off my car and they test drove my car and parked my car, they were the LAST ones in my car, I dont know whats happening or what they did, I asked for a Camshaft position sensor issue. NOT ignition, so they broke my ignition and refused to fix it. WONDERFUL I had to pay out of pocket for a mobile locksmith $750 This was unacceptable behavior, I cant express my anger. This shop tried to rip me off (maybe because, I'm a woman). The manager, I believe his name is Mike/Michael of Tukwila shop, gave me an estimate to replace my 2018 Rogue radiator fan/cooling system for $1700 ($219 for diagnostic). After waiting pretty much all day! I am from Spokane and had to be in Seattle that week and needed to drive back, the day I brought the car in. He said, "I wouldn't drive it around Seattle unless it's fixed." He wasn't very nice. And quickly offered me financing for payment. I was thinking to myself, why he thought I didn't have the money or cash to pay. He also did not think I'd make a phone call to a friend about the estimate. I decided to not get it fixed that day after consulting this friend of mine. I drove it back to Spokane w/o any problem. My car is now fixed, and I only paid $600. I do not recommend this place. I was very disappointed, not expecting it for a chain auto shop. I am not taking any apologies! We all know they don't mean it and will continue to try to scam people. read more

I made an appointment for a Saturday. I drop off the car the night before. So they can get an head or early start on it. I call Greg's auto at the end of Saturday. And they haven't even looked at it yet. They said they won't be able to look at it till Monday. They call me Monday and quote me a price for services. I agree and let them start the service. No word from Greg's auto for 2 days. I called on the 2nd day to check on my vehicle. They said it be ready at the end of the day. Well it wasn't and I had to wait longer for my car. And at the end of the day. My bill was $1500 over their quote. That didn't even bother me that much. But the bad customer service and bad communication just pissed me off. That I have to call every day to check on my car. And when I was waiting for my car. I hear other people on the phone checking on their car. And they would give them the same answer they give me. They haven't even got to the car yet. It's easy to say I don't recommend this place. And I'm not coming back to this place!!!!! read more

Shady place. I went in for what I believed was a bearing issue, which caused noises --I was about 85% sure that was the problem and told them so. Initially, they told me the noise was coming from the transmission and that it was a transmission issue. I was really shocked, and they said they would run transmission diagnostics to rule out other problems. The next day, they changed their diagnosis and said it was actually a bearing issue. When I asked for any records or documentation supporting the transmission diagnosis, they had none. The only record they provided showed that they used a chassis ear to detect the noise, which actually indicated the noise was coming from the bearing. In the end, I paid $850 just to replace a single bearing. read more

I've been to Greg's many times for oil changes for both of my vehicles and for some repair work. They're not the cheapest around, but generally do a good job. I was recently in because they had a black friday deal on oil changes. I usually don't leave the house on black friday, but I figured I had the time to spare and I needed to get it done. I did not expect to spend 3.5 hours on an oil change. I had an 11am appt, and didn't leave until 2:30pm. From what I can tell, their system allowed itself to overbook, and they were swamped. I get it, but also triple the normal time is a hard pill to swallow. I would have made plans to have someone come get me and just come back later had I any idea that would have been an issue. Instead, I sat there in purgatory. There weren't any open chairs in the waiting area when I first arrived, and the front desk guy had just got a camp chair for someone else. I had to wait for someone to leave before I could even sit down. I had been told when I first arrived that it would take about 90 minutes. So I had generally come to Greg's because they were reliable, and I didn't have to worry about anything. Their cost kinda factored into that. The black friday special was for a $19.99 oil change. What I didn't know was that I was paying the rest of it in time. The people were are all nice as usual, even though they were swamped. I feel for them, as that couldn't have been easy to deal with. I still wish they'd been better at estimating the time because I could have done other things than wait. read more

Greg's Japanese Auto performed unauthorized work on my car and continues to dodge accountability. I've had to return twice for repairs due to issues with the keys they provided. On top of that, I was treated with complete disregard and laughed at after telling Michael Tyler, the manager, that I felt taken advantage of because I was charged $1266 for work I didn't approve. There was zero empathy or professionalism. I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone expecting transparency or quality. read more

I cannot recommend this place. The service took two months and I received very little information. In Washington, you are entitled to a written estimate before any work is done on your car, but I never got one and was shocked by the final bill. I left my belongings in the trunk, but when I picked up my car two months later, everything was moved to the backseat, and my tire air pump was missing. They offered no help regarding this issue. Honest and communicative. Exactly what is wanted in a car maintenance shop! This location came highly recommended by neighbors and family so I wanted to check it out for an oil change. Their prices are very competitive. I was able to get an appointment within 3 days of calling. I came in on my day off (they are only open during my workday) and hung out in the general surrounding area during an oil change. The oil change includes tire rotation, which is what is recommended by the tire manufacturer as well (by mileage) so that's a win-win. During the general inspection process they found that mice were making beds in my engine. They ordered replacement air filters during my visit, installed them and gave my engine a rodent treatment spray. No detectable odor in the car cabin so that went well. Great location. I grabbed lunch and entertainment while my car was being worked on however they also have a lounge in their shop. The shop is also very tidy and clean where they work on the vehicles which is also impressive. I recommend! read more

First visit walk in alignment within a few hours 5 stars. Recommended camber adjustment kits to fix -.12. +1.2 kits Installed. Notified upon 2nd visit they were installed. They were NEVER adjusted and alignment was worse! Was lied to and told the reason it was -1.7 was because I needed to install +1.7 kit. It was literally-.5 worse! Fronts never adjusted. Rear was even worse. Lie I was told was my camber adjusters don't adjust camber. Install another kit and pay for another alignment. We can't align your car. The adjusters are literally in the exact position as installed. They did NOT adjust! They would not correct and they charged me for work they did not do. Even worse, get this, I got a nice screwdriver scratch on windshield tint about 9"! ...and my K&N mistake was unscrewed and taken off the pipe. I replied to the text from the owner and received no response? I then took it to Highline in Burien and they aligned it within spec. They rotated the front camber bolts and adjusted the rear arms. Son in college driving minivan - had engine trouble and was towed to Greg's. They quoted my son $2200 to fix problem plus another $2000 for suggested and required service based on their diagnostics. Total blue-book value of minivan is about $3800. I paid them $150 for diagnostics and paid a tow truck $550 to tow it to our mechanic 80 miles away. Our mechanic fixed for $566. Two mechanics we trust: Even taking into consideration higher prices because Greg's only uses OEM parts, prices very high. Giving 2 stars because their diagnosis would have fixed the problem and they were friendly/helpful even when I decided to have our car sent to another shop. However, if I hadn't stepped in, our poor-college-student son would have been significantly over-charged. read more

I've never been a fan of "chain mechanics" compared to small owned mechanic shops, but decided to give Greg's a try based on my coworkers recommendation. Glad I did! Mike on the phone was easy to speak to and made an appt. right away for a brake service. They then texted me an inspection report of the diagnostic of the vehicle which was a pretty cool, useful way of utilizing technology in this age. They told be the brake pads were still good and no need to replace. Wow! Some other shops would just do it anyways and take your money. Honesty goes a long way with mechanics in my opinion. Decided to do their recommended cool and flush. $180. And got some Denso windshield wipers which now work just like a brand new car. $30. Also a full synthetic oil change for only $59, whaaaaa. My coworker that referred me got some credit to his account and I got $40 off. With their rewards program, you get your 6th oil change for free, and 24 hour roadside assistance as long as you use Greg's once every six months. They got a loyal customer now! Shout out to Mike for his knowledge and advice over the phone and the manager Parker for his professionalism. I've only been a few times for oil changes but everytime I've been totally satisfied. I've used coupons each time and haven't had any problems unlike some places I've been where they try to say the coupon is no longer valid or other excuses. I've been taking my last two cars to Greg's for around 7 years and typically have had a good experience with timely service, often with turnaround faster than estimated. Their oil change punchcard is a major reason for me returning. I started having a hunch that some small services were being added on when unnecessary, specifically that my cabin air filter was recommended to be replaced every time I took it in for an oil change (around every 4-6 months) even though my owners manual specified every two years. Today as an experiment, I replaced my cabin air filter IN THE PARKING LOT before I dropped off my keys for another routine oil change. Lo and behold, at the end of the oil change, they recommended that the cabin air filter be replaced even though I had opened one from the shrink wrap it was packaged in and installed just two hours earlier. I'll be returning only to claim my free oil change punch card but will be looking elsewhere for future service. read more

WARNINGDO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! If I could have given 0 stars I would have. I took my car in for a diagnostic for a couple leaks that jiffy lube had told me I had when I had gotten my oil changed a week prior. I pick it up & they give me this FAT 3 page list of services and repairs that apparently my car needed. Grand total of those repairs? 8,000$. I have a 2008 bmw x3. That is the price I paid for the entire car. I take the diagnostic report, pay the 178$ for it, and leave. The next time I go to start my car, it won't start. It has NEVER not started on me! I get a second opinion & they find that they had disconnected something, I believe it was my air pump. So the mechanic simply reconnected it & my car starts right up. I don't know if it's because I'm a woman or if they regularly practice this; essentially scamming people out of money they don't even need to spend. Took car in for service that I can't do myself. Car NEVER had issue starting. Magically my car wouldn't start after handing over the key to the shop. Either God's plans or man's plan. But as for service, it was ok. Gave a text with picture of car inspection and what is ok and what is recommended to fix. What I did not like: Never called me to say my car was ready for pick up. Had to call and ask when it was ready. Only called when they wanted to do more work. If my car didn't start from the beginning, they should've called right away and ask if I wanted it fix or I can plan to do it myself. Its an easy cheap fix. Did not tell me till end of day, and I had to leave it at the shop another day, having me burn another sick day which could have been all avoided. read more

I already took my car there for the second time having different issues and there was no doubt that this would be my new place to go. Price gouging auto repair shop. Estimate quoted by Dennis King. My windshields suddenly stopped working on my way to work on a typical rainy Seattle day. This shop was located near my work and at a glance was rated 4 Stars on Yelp. I called and spoke with Dennis and he said to drop the car off for them to take a look at it. I said great and dropped my car off for them to take a look. So I dropped my car off at 11am, Dennis called me with a quote of almost $800 at 4pm to replace the windshield wiper transmission. I had sticker shock. These were WINDSHIELD WIPERS. I was expecting $200-300 range for repairs. He told me the part itself was $500 plus 2 hours of labor (1 hour to take apart and 1 hour to put back together)...I had my suspicions about a quote this high and they were confirmed later that evening. I checked with Arrows Automotive, Superior Auto Service and Matt's in Greenwood and every single one gave me a quote drastically less than Greg's. 1. Arrows Automotive $400 + tax. Genuine Toyota part. 2. Superior Auto Service $317.55 (including tax). Off-market part. 3. Matt's Greenwood Auto Care $303.24 + tax. Genuine Toyota part. Arrows and Matt's both called their vendors and told me the exact same price of $233.94. Both of these shops were getting them from the dealer. This is HALF of what Greg's was charging. Each shop also quoted me 1 hour of labor and Greg's quoted me 2 hours. I watched a Youtube video on how to change the transmission out, the mechanic was done in 20 minutes so 1 hour of labor is fair. Charging for 2 hours is price gouging. So when I went back to Greg's to ask for my car, they told me they had taken apart the windshield wiper transmission and that they would need to put it back together. I owed them $142.99 (1 hour of labor) for them taking it apart and putting it back together. If you bring your car here, ask about any costs you may incur if you choose to get it serviced elsewhere. I honestly felt like I wasted my money and time at Greg's. Please look elsewhere if you feel that the quote you received seems high. It is high. Do your research. I did mine and it saved me hundreds of dollars on a simple service. read more

Great service from the Tukwila location! I've been to their Renton location in the past with my other vehicle but this location was able to fit me in last minute. I received a quote and thought it was much cheaper than the dealership but wanted to price around before I went ahead with the service. After calling around to three different nearby shops, Greg's by far was priced the best. On top of the quote, they offered a $40 off coupon as well. They have a lifelong customer in me! Requested a diagnostic test and then estimate on repair for an electrical component. When I picked up my car, I got a bill for $175 for the diagnostic test (which I expected). He said the repair to fix it would be $2,100. I asked for a detailed estimate and he said they don't give those out. Not sure if it matters and it shouldn't, but I'm female. I had my male friend call and ask why they wouldn't give a detailed estimate and after several minutes of pushing for the estimate they finally gave it. They typically don't like to because the prices change so often. Which I've since found that most places will give a detailed estimate and it's valid through a certain date. In addition on this estimate for $2,100 it included so many small things and repairs I didn't even ask for but they assumed (without asking) I would need. This place is scammy. Brakes were grinding pretty bad and I knew I had to get the rear brakes pads (at least) replaced today. Called a major brake and tire repair chain place that quoted me $350 for the rear pads only with labor. Called the neighborhood mechanic who came in about the same and said if rotors also needed replacement we'd be at around $550. Since I was going to be in the Southcenter area today I called Greg's Japanese Auto after hearing about them in the past and reading their 4 and a half star Yelp reviews. I decided not to even ask Donny, the front desk guy and likely manager, for a quote and just dropped off the car. He told me they would do a free diagnostic test to make sure that it was just the rear brake pads that needed replacement. I went to the mall and had lunch and let Donny go to work. He called 20 minutes later with the diagnosis. Indeed it was metal on metal hence the grinding brakes. I would need pads and rotors. Estimate? $440. More than a hundred dollars less than I had heard elsewhere. After eating my lunch at the mall I was able to get work done back in their customer waiting area on my laptop as they have WIFI and I also watched an entertaining episode of Maury. Paternity test scandals. Never gets old that Maury. Back to business the job is finished in the estimated time Donny told me and I'm checking out. I come to find since I was referred in to Greg's by a loyal customer, I would receive an additional $40 off. New rear brake pads and rotors plus 3 hours labor for $400. This place is doing good business. If you are worried about getting fleeced by an auto mechanic, feel safe going to Greg's. read more

I feel ripped off by the South center shop. I also feel stupid and partly to blame for not researching when I was quoted an exorbitant $1900 catalytic converter. I'm sure you can appreciate how disgusted I was with myself when I mentioned later at an O'Reilly's how expensive the part was and they quickly looked up their most expensive one for my Honda Civic: $267. No decent, honest, trustworthy shop would ever do this. Perhaps no auto repair shop is trustworthy. Somehow I doubt it. Please never go to Greg's if you need any major parts replaced because they may do the same to you. read more

Mike and the techs did a great job inspecting my car for potential problems and told me the costs for everything to get my car reliable again. I got several thousands of dollars of work done and couldn't be more happy.... But Jeffrey the other office assistant wasnt so helpful... I called to see if my car was done and he said im too sure can you call back I'm eating lunch... Mind you it's only 11:00am... I called back a few hours later and lit seemed like he was in a horrible mood , treated me with complete disrespect, yelled at me , and told me your cars done when we say it's done and don't call and ask again... If it wasn't for Mike and the amazing techs he has I wouldn't ever come back there as long as Jeffrey is working... I brought my Honda Civic in for an oil change and Greg's technician told me that I needed the rear brakes replaced, that they were at 1mm (10%) and needed to be done right away to avoid damage to the rotors. They also informed me that the front brakes were at 3mm (30%) but didn't need to be replaced right away and could wait. I took their word and had the brakes done despite the fact that all of my miles are highway. I've owned 6 Honda Civics and know the cars and repair cycle well. After picking up the car, I called Renton Honda and asked the service tech if the 2012 Honda Civics had break squeelers, which produce a scratching sound when the brake pad gets low and they indicated that all the Civics still have brake squeelers. My break squeeler was not making any noise at all. I called the shop out on it and they said" well maybe a rock flew up and bent it". Six Honda Civics in my life and never a bent break squeeler. 6000 miles later I take my car into Les Schwab to have the tires replaced and ask them to let me know about the wear on the front breaks. The Les Schwab Technician indicated that the front brakes are at 6mm (60%), twice what was reported by Greg's technician 6000 miles earlier. While Greg's has skilled technicians and know Japanese cars well, its clear to me that they lied out the rear brake and front brake wear to increase their shop revenue and sell me a pair of brakes I didn't need yet, which is completely unacceptable. I will still bring my car there, however, I will never trust any recommendation at their shop again without taking my car to another independent shop for a 2nd opinion. There is no way my squeeler pad was bent and the rear brakes did not need to be repaired until the squeeler pad was making noise, and the front brakes had more then twice as much life as indicated. read more

My last trip to Greg's was very disappointing. Ok, I understand that I'm going to have to shell out big bucks every now and then, but this time, in addition to changing the oil, which btw came out to $300 because of some other things they thought I needed to do, they also suggested I get my struts replaced. This would have brought my bill up to $1000. Not wanting to make a rash decision, I decided to make an appointment to get this done while I asked around about whether or not it was necessary. Long story short, I found that it was not necessary to have this done just yet. So I cancelled my appointment. In addition to this, they gave me what they said was a rebate coupon for $5 back on the services, but when I sent it in, it was really a $5 coupon for my next visit. I know it's only $5, but I'm really annoyed that it came down to that to really upset me. It's like the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. I'll be looking for a new mechanic. read more

Greg's ain't cheap but you get what you pay for. This is a credible group of automotive repair shops in my years of experience with them. My most recent experience was taking in my Acura SLX for Air Conditioning issues. After taking it to a closer mechanic and having them fail to fix it twice, I went to Greg's and they got it done right the first time. I have used Greg's for most work on my Honda, Toyota and Acura. Too bad they wouldn't work on Isuzu's. I had to take my Isuzu Trooper elsewhere for more money and I'm less confident in the workmanship. read more

First time customer. They were able to get me in last minute for an oil change. I don't live by a schedule, so last minute/day of appointments are very important. I'm a Subaru owner and I typically only take my car to independent Subaru repair shops. However, 2 of the 3 I go to aren't convenient at all, and the 3rd is always busy so I can never get a same day appointment. I think Greg's will be my go-to oil change spot from now on. I was in and out of there quickly and the employee that helped me (I think his name is Donny) was pretty awesome (and cute)! Oh, and they have Wi-Fi! read more

I went to Greg's after a friend's referral because I heard about their great customer service and reasonable prices. I was able to get my car in same day, the staff was very friendly, the bathroom was clean (I always notice details like that) and they even gave me a ride to Southcenter Mall while they worked on my car (they needed to perform a 30 minute diagnostics that would cost $50. My car was making a loud squealing sound when I drove). Greg's picked me up from the mall in a timely manner and when I got back to their office, they had actually managed to fix my car (tightened the belt) and applied a new customer referral discount ($40.00) to my bill (and my friend gets $50 off his next service for referring me) so my bill was only $10! I know, crazy pants. When I drove home, I noticed that there was no loud, high-pitched squealing sound so I think the big bad wolf is finally gone. Hooray! read more

I took my G37 in to get a few things done including power steering fluid replacement. They were nice people, very punctual, but they messed up. There was a slight winding noise that I noticed a few days after they completed the service, but I didn't think much of it. Several months later, I take my car into a dealership and they discover that the pump was broken and wasn't properly sending fluid. The repair cost is upwards of $500 I don't think I'll trust a Greg's Japanese auto ever again. read more
