This is a great auto shop that is actually honest, trustworthy and fairly priced. I take my Subi here for everything and they're always so kind. Unlike other shops, they've had every opportunity to scare me into more work or parts but they don't take advantage of you; they'll give you lowdown on whether you really need something fixed or if you're okay to hold off on it. They're also consistently timely about the work they do on your car, and about communicating with you. I've had nightmare experiences with other places, for example the dealership and Collision Care Center, so it was breath of fresh air to have people be prompt, accurate and communicative. Just moved from New Mexico, and needed a new regular auto shop to take my car to (2004 Infiniti G35). That's always intimidating especially for someone who loves their car as much as me! I will start by saying I know absolutely nothing about cars so when my car was completely dead on Sunday morning it stressed me out. I called my dealership where I have had all my service done since buying my car new in 2018 and they couldn't get me in til 6/17, that was not going to work. On a referral from a friend I called these guys and they were able to get me in the next day. In the meantime I did some googling and determined it could be my alternator, the battery was only 6 months old. As it turned out it was not, so I left it with them to continue diagnosing. In less then 5 hours they determined and fixed the problem for 300 dollars. I don't have a price comparison but for speed and convenience it seemed like a deal. They were considerate polite and informative. I have nothing but nice things to say about Levi, Penner, and Rob. I have no doubt if you encountered those guys you would have a good experience. I've never given a one star review, and don't even like the idea of it, but for this shop, I have to. Last Summer, my car's AC was out. I was out of town when an AC Specialist told me that the compressor was out, and that it'd be best to get it replaced when I was back home because parts wouldn't get to him on time before my departure. I took it to Burien Japanese and let the person I spoke with know all this. He said he thought it would just need a charge of freon. Even after rebutting by letting him know that an AC specialist already diagnosed the problem, he still thought it was a low freon issue. Regrettably, I should've taken my car and left then and there. Instead, I was already there, so I left the car with them. He called a few hours later to say that they recharged the freon, but it didn't work still, and indeed the other specialist was right; the compressor was not working. He quoted much more of course to account for labor and parts for this "discovery." When I went to pick up the car after services were completed, he said they installed a remanufactured compressor. I raised my eyebrows at this and asked why a new one wasn't installed. He said new ones were much more expensive, and they've often used remanufactured compressors with no issues. This all came out to just under $1,000. Less than a year later, my AC does not work again. On this next point, it may be purely subject to my interpretation, but I truly felt that if I were someone other than a small Asian woman, he would've taken the point more seriously that the compressor really was the issue, and not have gone through all the extra work of troubleshooting when it had already been done! I also didn't appreciate his "opening up to me" about his private life with his Vietnamese wife, which was precipitated by his seeing my Vietnamese last name. Ugh. read more

They seemed honest and I trust their work. I give them three stars for increasing their estimate twice! I was quoted $480 on the phone for the work I needed done, but once I got there I was told it would be higher. They called me later to give a new quote before starting work, now a little over $600. They warned me that it may be more and sure enough the final cost was almost $700. In fairness to them $700 was the average price I was quoted by other mechanic shops and was a fair price. I'm posting as a warning that they may use a bait and switch sort of tactic to get your business. Or perhaps it was an honest mistake? Anyway I didn't pay more than I would have anywhere else; I could have done the work myself but had time restrictions and limited access to a garage; as a mechanic myself I will vouch that they do good work and are professional. read more

I came in with check engine light and they tried to replace my whole fuse box and battery. When I asked if my fuse box is blown why am I not experiencing any electrical issues. The mechanic to used a multimeter on my spare fuses to show that there was no connection. This place almost robbed me of $1000+ in phony repairs. Found this shop on Yelp (Yelp at its best!) when I needed a timing belt for my Sequoia. They have a deal where you get a discount when you mention Yelp. Anyway, I priced them out and read a few reviews - and couldn't believe when they had an opening the very next day. I took the car to them, they did a perfect job, saved about $300 compared to the other shops I checked (who were also offering discounts). The guy who helped me at the counter was great. I was very happy with the experience. I will say, I'm a car enthusiast and I usually do ALL the work my cars need. This was no exception - became an issue though when I needed the work done immediately before a long trip. So, I was prepared for the typical "upsell" that you get at auto shops - where they tell you all the other things your car needs and how much it would cost to fix it all. I did appreciate the once-over they did, and I was happy I could do the work myself (like the brakes) since the quote was pretty high on some of that stuff. So, all up - HIGHLY recommend. read more

I've used them a few more times now and it's an excellent shop. Extremely good service, and if you know you have a bigger repair they have free loaner cars you can request ahead of time. (Normally older model cars, but always in good running order.) There's a car rental place next door if they don't have any available, but that's never happened. When I made the appointment for my first visit there nothing was said about having to wait to these common items above. I was told because I was newand even though I gave the man who booked the info on vehicle the week before, I had to wait for the parts to be delivered to the shop. I was never informed that my first time could take longer because of this even when I checked in. Thankfully, I did not have to be anywhere right after. Do I want to go back? Not sure. A huge shout out to Burien Japanese; not only did they keep my Prelude going for 22 years, I've been having problems with my alternator and took it in for a replacement (credit card sweating). They said they couldn't duplicate the problem and that I didn't need a new one, and saved me the $485 cost instead of just taking my money. This weekend I finally noticed the problem only happened when it was wet out and they found I'm missing an undercarriage water shield. Part ordered and my problem will be solved next week! It's so nice to have a place that does good work and that I can trust. I very highly recommend this place!!!! I also sent my mom here, a gullible elder woman who frequently gets taken advantage of; they fixed her car perfectly and took very good care of her. I literally made a Yelp account just to express how upset I am with this service. I recently bought a car that has been giving me a lot of stress, I've lived in Burien my whole life and have always seen this place and since I drive an '97 Acura Integra, Burien Japanese was my first choice. I called and explained what my car was doing and then brought it in the next day. When I walked in, first thing they did was see that I was a 25 year old girl and I could see dollar signs in their eyes. I explained to them that I ALREADY TOOK OUT MY STARTER AND TESTED IT, AND IT IS STILL WORKING, but my car still isn't turning on and is leaving me stranded in parking lots. They called back right before they closed saying that "car isn't acting up in shop and is turning on every time, but we think its the starter so we can go ahead and try that and that will be about $300" First off, why not check out other things that might have something to do with my problem? Secondly, I ALREADY CHECKED THE STARTER AND THATS NOT THE PROBLEM, if it was, it's only $40 to $60 at AutoZone so why are you charging me that much? I then asked, "well if I replace that and it ends up not fixing my problem, can I take it back in and you fix it?" they said we would just have to start over and try and figure it out." I was hesitant, but said okay. Thank God it was a Friday and they couldn't do it until Monday. So I called around and got better quotes and a better idea with what my car actually needed. Monday rolled around and I called them at 7:30 AM and said not to do anything else to my car and took it somewhere else. AFTER having to pay ANOTHER $300 for a $17.00 cap and a $20.00 hose. Are you kidding me? My guess is that they thought because I am a young girl, I have no idea what I'm doing and can make a ton of money. Wrong. Basically this place is ridiculously over priced and they don't have compassion or sympathy for whats giving you problems. Go to Community Automotive on Ambaum in Burien. They fixed my car within an hour and only charged me $150 for parts AND labor and also replaced my battery terminals for free for the trouble I just went through. I will never go to Burien Japanese Auto ever again and will NEVER recommend anyone there. read more

All my questions were answered and I received some good suggestions on what needed the most immediate attention. They even added some oil for no charge as they noticed I was low. Following the inspection I wasn't pressured into having anything fixed at their shop, which is what many mechanics will try and pull. They simply told me what I needed to know and I was on my way. I hired Burien Japanese Auto to inspect my newly purchased 2014 car. My car looked beautiful and pristine. When I got it back, a door handle was badly scraped up, and so was the plastic on and around the glovebox cover. I had a lot on my mind that day and didn't see the damage until after I'd paid and gotten home. It's only cosmetic damage, but I'm very sad that my pretty new-looking car got damaged. I can't imagine why their staff should have treated my car so roughly. Update: Jerry treated me right! He replaced the damaged door handle and glove box. There was a little remaining scratching around the glove box that he buffed and I am perfectly satisfied. Don't know why the incident happened in the first place, but they did the right thing in response. I feel good about recommending them. read more
