This review is solely based on my experience with my Facey physician and the staff. I am happy to say that my primary care provider, Dr. Shirvanian listens and for me, that's a very important thing and something I look for when I choose a physician. She sits and spends time with me during my appointment. She asks questions, answers my questions, and offers thoughtful and helpful advice - she genuinely cares. Her nurse, is just as caring and pleasant. Other thoughts about my experience: - Provide a list of your meds if you're a new patient. - Front office reception and in-house lab are staffed with friendly, ready-to-help professionals. (They really ARE nice.) - Parking is NOT validated and is expensive; look for street parking if you have time to spare. - Online access to your records (not sure if it's ALL records) through MyChart, so you'll see your lab results, medications, have the capability to message your physician, etc. **A quick note about messaging through MyChart. There is now a longer response time, of which I, personally, was not informed. I'm still trying to find out what happened. I took one star off for that. - Finally, try your best to be kind.

They referred me to the front desk at the office who doesn't return calls. I had an appointment scheduled, but was told after three weeks by someone in a call center somewhere, who admitted she wouldn't have the most accurate information, that they only work on the back and not other areas of pain. I was referred by my spine doctor, but he knows that my whole body is in pain so he wouldn't have referred me to someone just for the back. If you do manage to get through to the office, they don't answer the phones. It just rings and rings and goes to voicemail. I've read through many of the reviews on here, and that seems to be the general consensus. As someone who worked in a medical office at the front desk, I know that if they are not answering the phones and reflecting good customer service, that gives me a bad feeling about what my experience will be once I get there which at this point maybe never because I am not booking an appointment until I know if he treats my issues. The fact that I can't get an answer like that from the people at the call center, reflects poorly on the company.

The staff was very pleasant, professional and extended me every courtesy. When I showed up 1/2 hour (as I am always early for any appointment as a habit) early for my 2:30 pm appointment. When I arrived, the staff immediately gave my dirty looks as if I was not supposed to be there and looked at me as if I had 1,000 heads with a look of disgust on their faces too. The 2 females at the front desk, laughed at me as I announced my first and last name, spelling my first and last name out to the staff as a professional courtesy and time I was scheduled at this appointment, they kept starring at me as if I had 1,000 heads. The staff made me feel very unsafe and totally unwelcomed by them. They were very racist in their nasty looks, limited hostile conversation, not friendly towards me, making rude sound affects, sneekering at me once I walked into their offices and I introduced myself in and greeting the staff which were nasty, rude and unprofessional staff. The one girl took my ID, sent it, and walked to the front door instead of letting me hand her my insurance card at the front desk where she was sitting. All the time, she was sneering at me as she stood behind the office door, knowing I could see her while standing at the front window. She continued to laugh and point at the other girl seated at the desk, they both snickered at me for reasons I later discovered. Then 2 seconds later, a girl opened the office door and said to me, "We don't take your insurance." I told her I called two months ago, and spoke with this office. This office clearly and specifically stated they did take my insurance, and you are on my insurance company's doctor referral 31 page list. This office staff continued to laugh at me and look at the other girl. Who continued to laugh at me too. I could clearly see it was racism because when we were chatting on the telephone, the staff was very professional and friendly, almost graciously so. Unfortunately, when I showed up for my doctor's appointment, the staff was aggressive, hostile, almost belligerent, confrontational, and combative toward me, as if they wanted me to engage in an argument with them. Two staff members in this office blatantly denied me medical R.A. services. They did not offer me any form to complete as a new patient and rushed me out of the office, glaring at me the entire time. As I was walking out (and there is so much more to this story, but I am too irritated typing about this racism to give more detailed accounts of the racism I experienced), I was being a disabled senior, grandmother of 7, and mother of 2 adult married sons. I have never experienced this type of racism with any of my past or present doctors as I have with this staff's horrible, barbaric, hostile, rude, and unprofessional racist acts. As I opened the door to leave, the girl at the front desk leaned out and yelled at me: "The doctor can see you if you pay in cash ONLY for all of your visits..."

I called to schedule an appointment with Dr. Wollaston and was told I needed to complete paperwork online beforehand. When I later reviewed the forms, I discovered a statement indicating that, due to low reimbursement rates from Medicare and other insurance providers, the office charges a $300 annual administrative fee. According to the form, new patients are allowed two visits, but must pay the $300 fee prior to a third visit. This fee is billed annually, beginning April 1. I contacted Medicare directly and was informed that physicians may only charge additional fees under specific circumstances, such as concierge or retainer arrangements, or for services not covered by Medicare. Based on that information, this fee does not appear to fall into any of those categories. What was especially concerning is that this fee was never disclosed to me when I scheduled the appointment. When I spoke with the office manager, Evelina, and asked why, I was told that informing patients is something to the effect of hit or miss. Due to the lack of transparency, I canceled my appointment and requested documentation showing that this fee is permitted for Medicare patients. I will also be following up with Medicare regarding this matter. I have attached a screenshot of the form referencing the $300 charge.

When I contacted the office, they did not take responsibility for the misinformation or make any meaningful effort to resolve the situation, despite the fact that their own staff charged me an in-network co-pay on the day of service. My insurance ultimately agreed to waive the charges as a courtesy, but the entire experience was stressful, time-consuming, and avoidable. Patients should be able to rely on the coverage information they are given before receiving treatment. If guaranteed timeliness, a 15-minute meeting, and 'buddies on the golf course' presentation are more important to you than having a chronic and mysterious health condition solved: yes, please stay away. Dr H is a genius who cares deeply for her patients. She is at the leading-edge of *real* Lyme disease diagnosis and treatment. Some of the complaints about timeliness are because she works at a hospital in the day, takes Lyme patients in the evening, and sometimes has to deal with hospital emergencies - which obviously stretches her day even further. Her assistant Brenda displays equal care, going above and beyond to help organize care and save costs. The 5-star reviews are from those who genuinely see the genius, kindness and care. Sometimes our angels come to us in mysterious ways, and sometimes we don't appreciate them when we meet. In addition to the doctor who was present when I was being born, Dr. Hanberg is the physician who probably deserves the most credit for saving my life and putting me on the path to the best health possible of any doctor I've ever met in my entire life. And you know what? I was so bratty and spoiled and self-absorbed in my own fantasy love story that I don't think I ever thanked her once for what she did for me (other than this yelp review and of course what she did for me will all come up in the book). Like Einstein, brilliance is eccentric, brilliance bounces around, brilliance is quiet and unassuming. If you're lost and looking for a little guidance, like a light in the fog of holy shit I'm neck deep in sea of suffering and sh*t, go see Dr. Hanberg. *** CHAPTER 15: "Holy shit I've never seen anything like that before!" I lay in the hospital bed at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank listening to the sounds of the machines. The sounds of steps down the hallway. The sounds of cries from the room across the hall. There's always sounds inside the walls of a hospital. Sounds straight from a horror film. Having just been diagnosed with C-Diff, the new antibiotics I started in the hospital were starting to work and my bowels were slowing returning to normal. A few weeks earlier when I was dosing myself up with handfuls of amoxicillin tablets I knew I was gonna pay a price, and C-Diff was the price. As much as a C-diff infection presented an entirely new set of problems, I didn't once regret the mounds of mouthfuls of amoxicillin I took leading up to my first hospitalization at Cedars-Sinai on September 17th, 2005. That amoxicillin kept me alive. As I lay in the darkness pondering my new stew of misery, the door creaked open. "Sorry I'm so late." It was Dr. Hanberg. I liked late night visits. I'm usually up all night when I'm at the hospital. (And at home too.) "No problem, thanks for coming by." I meant it. "I've just spent the last few hours reviewing your case and--" Normally I would think a doctor was full of sh*t if they said they had just spent a few hours reviewing my case, but I believed her. She sounded determined to find a way out of this medical maze of hell I was living in. I appreciated that more than I could express. "after going over your records...the turbulent last few weeks...and I spoke with Dr. Schroeder..." Hearing his name made me happy. I sat up a little. "--and I like him by the way--" I hope not in the way that I like him. I watched Dr. Hanberg swirl my case around in her mind...like someone close to putting their finger on something that that they can't quite reach. "Your case is complex, there's a lot of things going on...autoimmune, infectious..." She looks at me closely, like she's taking a fresh look to see if there was something she might have missed. She paused, after careful deliberation she was sure we should take this turn together. "Have you heard of IVIG?" Hmm...I'd never heard of IVIG. "IVIG is immunoglobulin, it's effective in helping patients with immune disorders, both infectious and autoimmune disorders...I think it could help you. Would you be interested in trying it?" While I wasn't convinced I had multiple sclerosis - in fact I thought the MS diagnosis was a big distraction from the issues truly plaguing me - but if IVIG could work for both infections and autoimmune problems, then maybe I could make the people who think I have MS happy while I also help myself recover from the infections truly retching my soul by trying this IVIG. "Yes, sure, I'll try it." She nodded, I'd heard her. I could tell she hadn't come to the decision to order IVIG lightly, she had put a lot of thought into it. I was grateful that she understood how bad my infections were, in spite of the fact I didn't 'look sick'. Dr. Hanberg was listening.
