Dr. Matzer, in case you may read this, I hope the comments will be well taken so that another patient does not have my experience. After completing tests at Cedars, it was determined that I needed stents. You referred me to a doctor and I had the procedure done. I was so disappointed that you never followed up with me to see if I was dead or alive! I then called your office for a prescription refill and was told by Nick that I needed to come in. (It baffles me as to why you have Nick working for you. Read the other reviews which I agree with in reference to Nick.) I had been in your office recently and felt this was unnecessary. He said you would not refill it unless I came in. When I was in your office, you technician did an ultra sound and was very slow. I have since found another cardiologist and am very happy with his care and office staff. read more

I really enjoyed Dr. Matzer. Very smart and honest. You can tell she's very kind and caring even though she's very intellectual. I was diagnosed with a rare condition at Mayo about 5 years ago and long story short she actually pointed out they never ran the right tests to diagnose it. I appreciated her acknowledgment that the condition was a bit beyond her expertise. There's nothing worse than a doctor who pretends to know what they don't. She gave me a referral to someone at UCLA and texted him personally to give a heads up I'd be calling, which just seemed very genuine and caring. I got a bill for my copay via snail mail which is more than a little outdated but seemed a very honest, simple practice so I didn't mind. Office isn't high tech or flashy in any way but you don't need that to offer good care. read more

Dr Matzer is warm, wonderful and very knowledgeable for sure! I really am fond of her and think she offers a high quality of care but I needed to find a cardiologist closer to Burbank because she makes you come into her "office" ( it is always someone else's office she seems to be using) and cannot do telemedicine for the simplest of conversations . When I saw her she only had Friday office hours, which may be different now. For some reason, Dr Matzer does not use her phone nor does she have a receptionist or an answering machine. She can only be reached through the amorphous "Nick" by text. This is not your usual Doctors office and I prefer the more conventional modes of communication. That said, Dr Matzer is a truly good Doctor but "Nick" can be quite snippy , yes even by text... if all of the above works for you then you are in good hands but , sadly, although I am personally fond of unconventional, it didn't work for me. read more

I love everything about Dr. Matzer and her staff. I had seen a previous cardiologist who blew off my symptoms and just blamed everything on my weight. Because of Dr. Matzer's expertise and treatment over the years,I continue to feel better and better. She is really down to earth and listens to her patients and their needs. She is so knowledgeable and an expert in her field. She is a great communicator always explaining things in a way I can understand without talking down to me. She is funny and interesting to talk to. Dr. Matzer and her staff, Nick and Sara, are very accommodating and helpful. Nick is always willing to make appointments working around my teaching schedule and is patient and kind. The same goes for Sara who does the billing and the technician who completes the scans/tests. I can't say enough great things about this doctor and her staff, and highly recommend them to anyone who needs a great cardiologist and support team. read more

FRAUD ALERT: DO NOT VISIT THIS OFFICE!! I had a terrible billing experience with Dr. Lisa Matzer. When I first went to see Dr. Lisa, they misinformed me that they were part of my PPO network. They were not!! The doc had me run some expensive in-office tests saying that knowing my primary care doc, she would need it, and then charged me an insane amount for it, all out of network. This didn't end at that. When I disputed the charge and refused to pay, they went ahead and charged my card that I had only authorized for Copay. This office is complete FRAUD. I am delighted to give Dr. Matzer 5 Stars! But I no longer see her. While I love Dr. M (she is professional, personable and knowledgeable) I would do ANYTHING rather than have to speak with her....I have no idea what to call him - "henchman, overseer, Lord & Protector of the realm" - whatever he is he is a HOT MESS! This guy is beyond rude, condescending, scolding and beyond unprofessional). It's an odd situation as she is absolutely a great doctor and I trust her medically, yet she employs someone who chases her patients away. For close to a yr, I knew I needed to venture out beyond my GP and be seen by a cardiologist specialist just to get that under my belt....with their tools and tests, it gives peace of mind. Researched via my Blue Cross med plan book and chose Dr. Lisa M, very near me in Valley Village........I couldn't have been MORE than pleased.....and super relieved I actually went thru with going to see a cardiologist. I was treated by Dr. Lisa M for approx 3 mos and sadly had to end our Dr. patient rel due a change in my medical coverage from Blue Cross to one of those new HMO's thru California Covered called L.A. Health Care Plan.....of which she is not a member. I'll seek another cardiologist as she instructed but just in case I am back gainfully employeed and can get Blue Cross, etc again, I'll def go back to her. First of all, this doctor is very unprofessional, and her whole "team" is unorganized. Worst doctor I've ever been to. Don't trust their system of co payment because they will steal your credit card information and charge you for whatever "procedure" they think is necessary, no matter what condition you have. This doctor is completely biased towards heart conditions only so if you go in for just a normal check up, you'll end up getting a procedure that is completely irrelevant. Dr. Matzer is listed as a primary care physician and internist on the United Healthcare website. She is not a primary care physician and is not a practicing internist. She only does heart health. She refuses to change her listing on UnitedHealthcare is rude and didn't even apologize to me for the misunderstanding. I wouldn't want anyone I cared about with a cardiac condition seeing her as she has absolutely no compassion. Her staff was rude and dismissive giggled and laughed of themselves and said have a great day as I went out and didn't even greet me when I came in the door. Stay away from this doctor. read more

I had to offer our experience with my husband's appointment with Dr. Matzer. We had read all sorts of glorifying reviews on Vitals.com, so we went to her with high hopes. Unfortunately, we had a different experience. The GOOD: For our first appointment, she was on time, and greeted us personally to take my husband's blood pressure herself (which we liked). She seemed to be very attentive to our concerns, and discussed which tests needed to be done that day. The BAD: On our second appointment, she was running late, and didn't get us in for 45 minutes. On that visit, she was short with us, and seemed to be distracted. She didn't answer several questions that we had about his newly discovered condition (a congenital heart defect). And it was clear that she had NOT received the information she had asked for (which we had emailed to her three days prior to our appointment). And when we brought it to her attention, that she didn't receive this information, she acted nonchalant, as if it wouldn't have mattered anyway. So our number one complaint is the bad communication in her office, overall. Her assistant, who is very hard to understand over the phone, failed to give her our messages on several occasions. As well, either he did not give her an important e-mail we sent, regarding super high blood pressure after starting the pills she prescribed for him; or else she simply did not return our call. Her assistant suggested to us (in a patronizing way) that it never happens that a person's BP would go UP after starting those scripts (his personal diagnosis, we assumed). And he suggested that, "it was merely my husband's anxiety over having to take a few tests that day." I left a very abrupt message asking him how many patients did he usually see himself, and why hadn't we heard back from the doctor about his unusually high BP? Fifteen minutes later, we got an angry call from the doctor, who said she was very busy, and could only speak for a moment. And only then, did she acknowledge the need to take him off of the new script, and replace it with a different medicine altogether. And only after we had waited all day and night for a response from her, regarding our very real concern about his unusual reaction to that medication. And let me just add that this happened AFTER she told us how serious my husband's heart condition was, and added that he could, "DROP OVER at any time!" [her words, not mine]. So, to give us a diagnosis like that, and then be completely unavailable for questions, concerns, or more importantly, his reaction to the medicine she prescribed for him, in my opinion, is unacceptable. read more

I went to Dr. Metzer after reading excellent reviews. The first time she received me and was friendly and attentive to my condition and situation. I was going through a lot since I was scared about any heart problems. She was very attentive and caring I was very impressed with her bedside manners and caring. But, later on I had an emergency where I was rushed to the ER; they tried to contact her with no luck and eventually released me the next day with the condition to visit my cardiologist in 24 hour. When I called her, her assistant told me that she was "out until the end of the week" I explained that it was an emergency and he told me that he "will try to get hold of her" when neither answer me back I called desperate and he told me that he took the message that everything was fine (as he was a doctor and know about my condition) I asked if she left another doctor to take care of her patients when she was "out for a week" since I needed to see a doctor right away, he told me no; if I was so "rushed to see a doctor that I should go to "search in google for another cardiologist until she came back ?!! When I insisted to reach her, her assistant. very upset told me that I "should wait until she came back" I finally search for a new cardiologist to take care of the emergency who resulted a great doctor. Again, she is a cardiologist, she should be available for her clients or leave a doctor in case of emergencies when she is not available and not send clients to "google" for a temporary doctor. Her assistant should also not be providing "medical advice" since he is NOT a doctor and heart conditions are serious. I think that she is a good person but need someone to take care of the office when she is not in and return calls for her patients. She does not need to provide personal cell phone just a pager where she can be reached at. She is a very caring person when you are in the office but don't bother if she is out and you need from her. read more

She was recommended to me by a heart surgeon at UCLA as the only cardiologist in the valley to go to. I had a problem with a racing heart and palpitations. I had seen two other cardiologists before and they had told me that there was nothing wrong but I did not feel right. I like her because she is very thorough. I was being treated for high blood pressure by primary care doctor in Burbank for a number of years. I was not that happy with the results. I decided to go see a cardiologist. Dr Matzer took me into her office and got my history. She did not have some nurse have me get undressed in a cold exam room. She then personally took me to the exam room and took my blood pressure. I really like the personal attention. She also ordered some special blood tests that my primary doctor had never ordered. My next visit after the blood work came back she changed my medications and I finally have my blood pressure under better control. read more

I researched Dr. Matzer and liked that she seemed to be in tune with women's heart problems more than male doctors I have seen. As with most doctors, she was usually late for her appointments and I always felt very rushed once she did see me. Recently I had a question and I phoned her office and was told on 4 consecutive days that she was either with a patient or she was out of the office and would call me back. She NEVER called back. I have been one of her patience for about 3 years. After this experience, I will not go back to her. read more
